Wow, really? BG has clawed its way to Tier 1 three times since I joined it – three. Nobody paid people to come to us – guilds saw how hard we fought, how we didn’t give up, how we didn’t make excuses when we lost. Even after a LOT of guilds left and other server trolls labeled us cheaters we pushed past it. Every time we rose back to the top we came out swinging, we gained more people, we gained more momentum. Maybe SoR can do that too, but first you’re going to have to stop living in the fairytale land where every other server is evil, every guild you fight are cheating scumbags, and the only reason you’re losing is because you’re the only one ‘playing fair’. Nobody wants to move to a server that is that toxic to the rest of the community. The fact is, every server in this game thinks they have the best community – skillwise, there isn’t much that separates us at all – and we all have scumbags and cheaters. The only thing that does separate us is how we act towards one another – and we could all learn a lesson from Tarnished Coast there.

And for the record I find all this ‘stacked server’ nonsense really amusing, coming from a server that wouldn’t even be in T1 had it not been for massive guild transfers from SBI, and abusing the rankings to leapfrog out of T2.

On the other hand, their analysis will see that tons of people play rangers (though most of them are bots) and conclude, thus, that rangers are perfectly fine. Sad, but true, when you rely on ‘analytics’ rather than just playing your own kitten game.

dont get the wrong picture by all the posts from ranger haters and qq’ers, the ranger is an awesome skirmishing class in wvw and you’ll have alot of fun.

A video of a ranger barely killing a couple of bad players, who at any point could have dis-engaged and escaped, is hardly proof of an awesome skirmishing class.

Guardian was my first 80, Ranger my second – mostly just because I was tired of a melee class and wanted something ranged. I have fun WvWing on my Ranger, but there is no illusion about how much less effective the class is vs basically every other class except Engineer. You can build to survive and do almost no damage (as that vid shows), or you can build for mediocre damage with no real survivability. The trait lines are a mess – and builds are not nearly as flexible as a guardian.

In a Zerg your main use is your water field, so other classes with blast finishers can combo it for a heal.. Otherwise you’ve got no real utility and are just sustained single-target damage. We used to be useful for stacking vulnerability on buffed tower/keep/camp lords as well, but that was ‘fixed’ this patch also.

Rangers need help, it’s no secret – but they are fun to play at least.

Waypoint Bombing

I thought this was going to be fixed several patches ago? Where a waypoint opens up for about half a second while a keep is contested – and allows unlimited reinforcements every 3 minutes for the defending team.

It makes it nearly impossible to take some places (like Garrison) when a team is good at abusing it. It doesn’t matter if you wipe the whole defending team and hold them out of normal entrances – people just mass-WP in and run around contesting the courtyard and suicide-rezzing the claimer until the next WP window opens and the next batch repeats.

And yes, I’ve abused it myself when defending – and it’s always been cheesy. I remember a dev saying it was an oversight and an easy fix – but where is it?

With much anticipation, I present for your viewing pleasure—the most heavily anticipated matchup of this week:

iCoa vs. RET in the most Serious of battles yet seen in this tier. I must warn you that the images you see here have been unedited, and viewer discretion is advised:

At 2:10 you see us all standing on the shore. Our TS went a little like this:

“Ah screw this tickle fight – everyone on shore.”

“… They’re not coming up.”

“Hey, lets go defend hills instead.”

“Gogogo!”

Not sure what server/guild it was, but we wiped a huge zerg trying to hide in that underwater cubby on the NW side earlier that night – the only time I’ve seen a full underwater zerg battle with an actual winner.. and only because they were trapped in a cave. Will have to see if someone recorded that.

Is it just me or ORBS did make WvWvW fun?

I agree that the orbs gave us something interesting to fight over.. and need to be added back.

Hacking is pretty easy to prevent with the Orbs – the whole problem is letting players carry the actual orb. To fix it, just switch the Orb to be NPC carried. A player picks up an ‘orb’ item at the pedestal, and a Dolyak carrying the real orb spawns and follows. If the player gets out of range of the Dolyak, the orb item disappears and spawns back at the pedestal (and the Dolyak either disappears or slowly walks back ‘home’).

The bigger problem with the orbs was the bonuses. You make the winning team (who’s usually winning due to already-better coverage, especially in off-hours) stronger, and losing teams weaker – creating a snowball effect. The simple solution to that is to either have no bonuses other than PPT associated with the orbs, or have the bonuses PvE related (gold/magic find/karma).

Bugged WvsW limits/queues on European servers

I still think there’s something bugged with queues or map limits myself. I’ve been WvWing since launch and have continually run into the issues posted here. Even accounting for people running around doing world completion, the people doing jumping puzzles, and the people standing around at spawn / various keeps – there’s just no way you get to 166 players most the time there is a queue. There have been plenty of times I’ve been on a ‘full’ borderland where there’s obviously only 60-80 actual players.

It makes me wonder if there’s some sort of bug that doesn’t remove players from the queue. Like if you switch borderlands, or crash out, it doesn’t free up your ‘spot’ for others to get in.

Maybe they just need to shorten the amount of time people have to click ‘OK’ in queue, and be more aggressive on booting AFK players.

I actually prefer it this way. I mainly do pvp, and I like to spec my ranger pretty defensively. The way things are now allows me to still inflict decent dmg via the pet. I can prevent pets from dies with pet swapping anyway. I see this as a major advantage as a ranger compared to other profs. I can basically go full bunker and still deal decent damage for example with a jaguar.

Exactly. Looks like most ppl haven’t realized it yet. What the op has suggested imo would not benefit the class at all.

Right now pets get no boost from player stats. If they all the sudden started getting boosts it would in no way make pets less effective. In your case, your DPS pets would deal the same damage, but become more resilient. I don’t believe the OP was talking about determining a pet’s base stats entirely off of the Ranger’s state – just giving them the bonuses those stats are supposed to give to the player.

Stats should certainly affect pets, or the stats should scale on the Ranger themselves to compensate.

New player feeling so... useless in WvWvW

Guardian has basically no ranged attacks to speak of, and limited mobility. My first 80 was a guardian, second a thief, and honestly I find myself playing my lowbie alt ranger in WvW more than either of them – she’s almost 40 purely from WvW play in fact. I get way more kills with her just because of the ranged advantage, a pet that creates a constant annoyance, and the longbow AE attack is great for taking/defending keeps. Yea, when you get rushed expect to die – but while Guardians are hard to kill you basically have to suicide rush for an opportunity to kill anyone, and most classes can run from you easily.

I have to agree with Kaderin – speed boosts are horrible, especially when someone else activates them. I left immediately when I got in a group with someone doing that (they were mostly doing it to grief people).

The best tip: Just keep at it.

I got frustrated as hell the first little bit, but you slowly memorize the patterns, dangerous areas, and your muscle memory starts kicking in. After about an hour and a half I can now successfully run it 3 out of every 5 tries, with those failures mostly being from not being able to see myself at the start due to fat norn and char characters.

One thing to keep in mind is, it’s once per day per character. You get up-leveled in the Mad King’s realm, so even level one characters can run it. I’ve run it multiple times with several characters (though mostly just for the pumpkin carving) The chest drops are horrid though, my best chest drop was a useless green and 5 ToT bags. Yea.

I’ve nearly got 100% completion on all the Char zones, but I hated suffering through them. My problem is mainly that every Char zone feels exactly like the one before it. Its a problem with all racial zones, but it seems amplified with the Char. Same exact wilderness, same general level of conflict, same enemies etc. Also, lots of dense areas of roaming mobs. Everything is doom and gloom, Char apparently never have fun.
