This whole greed/deception thing has left a real sour taste in my mouth.
They talk about trying to be the best value in the market but are too cheap to provide a character slot in an expansion that adds a class.
It’s not good value for new players to get so much more than existing players for the same amount of money.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pre-purchase-community-address/
They, actually, promised character slot. But still, feels like half-win.

Well, at least they added a slot. That is something, now i see that they at least little care of our opinion. Not sure if will pre-purchase, still, but willing to buy it on launch.
To anyone, who thinks this is unlogical – it is not about money and slot. It’s about attitude.
Thanks, Anet, at least for this.
old players and new players get EXACTLY the same thing, a NEW account with both core game + HoT.
now the old players hace the CHOICE to applpy the expansion to their existing account instead of having a completely new account, so they can continue to develop their characters.
However by doing some they lose the additional core game, since they already have it on their old account.
So, to have equal deal we have to lose ALL that was earned and PAID FOR.
Wow, Great choice! So encouragin, such marketing.

The answer is no it shouldn’t cost the same…
But it should cost something. It just can’t cost 0$. If it is – please give me 10 copies. For FREE.
And as it costs something – we are again at the beggining. And please, stop telling like we are owe Anet for all the updates before.
1. They promised those updates on launch
2. Community paid for them via buying base game (without promised updates less people would buy it) AND via gemstore.
It was a buisness model of this game – money through game purchase and development through gemstore.
All that we got for these years is earned and paid.

Please stop saying like if all the stuff we already got on our accounts have fallen on us from sky. It is earned through time, game and gem purchases.
New players can have all this stuff too, by spending their time and money. We are equal here.
So the argument “You already have much on your account they don’t” fails. It wasn’t actually free, it was available through game experience. Jast as it is for new players.

I don’t think we’d be making this big a deal if it was GW3 coming out, with GW2 as the bonus.
Exactly. Because GW3 would be a standalone and, clearly, shouldn’t require a core game at all. And because GW3 = content at least equal to vanila GW2.

Yes, a bit of semantics on ANet’s part there….
Sorry for offtopic. But in your signature:
“800 mhz RAM”
Isn’t there a mistake? 800 Mhz?
But if they will tell this NOW – much less people will pre-purchase HotT. “Would be funny if not sad” situation.
Yup. Less people would get kinda scammed indeed. Ppl who already purchased will be a bit mad for having payed half the price just for beta access. But this particular kittenstorm will pass and with some honest statements (not sneaky PR policies) there will be a boost in good-will and trust levels. As such, I don’t know what’s better: Getting a good financial boost now with this approach or have a larger, healthy player base that will support the company in the years to come?!
Sadly, the answer to that is somewhere in calculations, and it could be bad for us.
If Nexon goes further with their influence on NCSoft and Anet – we can expect random armor and weapon boxes in gemstore and donate-only unique equipment. Yay. :/I’ve seen some
kittenNexon games. That’s not good at all.You really really are out of the loop of you think that Nexon influences this game. In fact, NcSoft has taken public steps to defend themselves against influence from Nexon who tried to influence NcSoft quite publicly and failed.
Your assertion that this is something that has to do with Nexon invalids any argument that comes after it.
Good if so) But everything before is based on th situation only. I don’t think they’ll anounce any changes soon, because if they do that will damage current sales.

As such, Anet can only apply this scheme the moment HoT goes live. Then, the extra 25$ vet players payed would be “justified” through their access to beta sessions (and the rest of the bling blings that should not become available later on to anyone else).
But if they will tell this NOW – much less people will pre-purchase HotT. “Would be funny if not sad” situation.
Current owners can use a new account and get the exact same deal if they were so inclined. Start like a newb or enjoy your 3 years of progression and rewards. The choice is yours. But it is a choice.
I think i paid for my 1,5 year experience by buying the game and about 10k gems by that period. So it is paid already, as i see it.

why we need to sacrifice for the new players

so you prefer spend a meal price to buy a coke….???? at Mcdonalds
no, on contrary, I believe that the core-game price IS inside of that 50$ somewhere. I don’t know what that price is for Anet, but it is there.
Prepurchase: To everyone still deciding.

Well the way people see it is that they’re going to buy the expansion anyway. Those that are hesitating because of what appears to be a lack of content in their minds; what are you going to do? Not buy the expansion and be left to play the base game until the next expansion? Quit the game entirely?
I have a steam full of games waiting me to play them. For now i’m killing zeds in Killing Floor 2, schoolgirl in Yandere Simulator and having fun with friends in LoL and other games. Blade and soul is on horizon, and lots of other games that were announced on E3.
So what will i do? I’ll wait. And then, when sales come, i’ll decide to buy or not to buy. Maybe at that point i will be thinking about GW2 as “meh” just because it was long time ago.
I see no lack of games anywhere soon.

How are you sacrificing for new players? With or without the base game bonus, it was going to cost $50 either way.
That, what is written, not always the truth.

Aren’t we important enough just to be answered? I’m not asking about the “we repaired all” answer, but just " we care and will do something" or “we don’t care, live with it”. So we can quit this flood.

$50 for content that will clearly keep many of us entertained for at least a few months, sounds like a bargain to me.
Thats your assumption only. There might be not that much of content. We don’t know the exact list of content.

I spent some time cooling down and rethinking and analyzing the whole situation. Still, veterans outraged not because some new players will get for FREE something, they won’t. They outraged because THEY will get NOTHING.
If you are new player: Welcome, congrats, here is your present!
If you are vet: move along now.
And 50$ price… I can buy a whole new game for that. Not just an expantion.
If i up it to an additional char slot (60$), i can preorder some epic games…
So no, it seems a bit overpriced.

For anyone, who wants to say anything in defence of Anet and already bought HotT – you’re welcome. Just, please. no offense. We all have opinions, we have right to write them down. You have this right too.
What maters – is the Anet answer to this. They will put an end to this, one or another, you can’t do it.
Keep calm and make your reasoning.

What if Anet put it this way.
HoT expansion only $45
HoT expansion (core included) $50
Players would still be complaining.
This would be still a better way. Make it 40 and i think all whine disappears. Completely.

So i am going to link this its fun to play with but when you use it ask your self how much is it to make a game or expatiation now becuse this is just inflation only. I like to bring up the ideal of if needed goods and services go up in price then non-needed goods and services should go up too. Its nice to live in a dream world where prices never changes but they do and entertainment tends to changes much faster then needed items. I would not be shocked at one point we will see games nearing the 100$ ranges as they are now (system games).
What, just tell me what exactly preventing Anet from somehow rewarding existing community by something ingame?
Like if:
- New players get GW2 + HotT
- Old players get HotT + 1000 gems + character slot
Both groups are happy. Everyone celebrating.
But instead, they just ignored old community. I can understand opinion “It costs 50$, i agree”, even if i don’t think so, but i can’t approve ignoring old players at all.

Let’s see 2 cases below:
CASE 1:
I go to burger shop to buy a burger.
The price of a burger at 15:00-19:00 is $20.
I still want French Fries and coke ($20) which are only available after 19:00.
At 19:01, waitress says we’re offering big discount now, buying French fries and coke get free burger!CASE 2:
The price of a burger at 15:00-19:00 is still $20.
French Fries and coke ($20) only available after 19:00.
At 19:01, the waitress says: we’re offering discount now, burger costs $10 only. So if you want a burger, French fries and coke, the total price is $30.
Anyway, Thanks for waiting for French fries and coke, we’ll offer discount and coupon to customers who bought burger before 19:00.Which case you think is more reasonable?
The difference is – you can actually eat two burgers. But you can’t eat two core games) But good point, anyway.

New players get a very good deal. I would buy it, if i was a new player. To get a whole new game for $50 + the expansion. Seems normal.
But i’m not a new player. And now it seems that it is always better to be a newcommer, than a veteran. Feels wrong. Like we all left behind and forgotten.
For anyone who saying about “supporting game by this price” – i supported game all the time by buying gems on regular basis. Didn’t realy need them, bought specialy to support Anet. And now Anet says to me “We don’t care. Your fault you are not a new player.”

Value is subjective. I pay to support the company that provided me with over 3500 hours of enyertainment. I put value on more than just the “objects” we get in the game.
To support this company i donated from time to time. Bought gems without real need. Just to support the game, because i understand “Game can’t run without money income”. I want some respect to an old comunity in exchange.

By this offer they just saying out loud “We don’t care about our players, that played our game all this years and donated. We care much more about new players. You may step away.”
Because as i see it now – new player gets much more for the same price. Annet, i was always grateful to you about this game, donated money, played, tested, reported gold sellers, etc. I don’t want to feel left behind. I don’t want all the comunity to feel like that.
Please, make a few new offers:
- Cheaper “Upgrade” of base game to HotT
- Character slot to anyone, who already has a base game and buys 50$ version of the game
