do we have to remind you…sword bleed > rifle bleed. Sword also has torment…

For someone specializing in conditions you sure have a funny way of showing it.

Do I have to remind you, that the sword is a close quarters weapon and not a RANGED SINGLE TARGET weapon, as I clearly stated in the title?

And yes, I use dual swords too. For close quarters.

I say, just learn to adapt and seek the next variation of a build. Keep suggesting improvements, but no point in being bitter about it.

The bitterness results from the fact that it is not an improvement when you take away something that isn’t wrong. This, along with many other things, could have been easily solved by providing new, extra alternatives instead of performing a major overwrite of something had been in place since beta and remained unaltered thus far, for the sole reason that it worked properly and hence did not require an overwrite.

This development philosophy is wrong. You do not solve one problem by exchanging it for a different problem. You do not increase the quality of a product by overwriting its initial features, with new features that may or may not be desirable for some of the end users, instead of adding features that will please even more users.

This trend is becoming more and more noticeable in many aspects of the game. It almost makes me feel as if ArenaNet changed management.

Too few players wanting difficult content?

I have to say this about the zerg mentality: if this is the only thing players will do, then they must be educated otherwise.

As for more challenging content, I feel it would be a good start to go back to the discreet warning circles rather than the solid orange horribly obvious broadcasts.

You removed them.

To someone with a focus on conditions and not power or critical damage, condition damage accounts for the majority of the damage dealt by the rifle. At just above 1500 average Bleed damage per tick upon achieving a sustained rate, this most certainly outperforms 300 direct physical damage on critical hit (all these numbers, taking level 80 enemies into account).

That’s 83% of the damage dealt by the rifle skill you changed. A 20% increase in the base damage of this skill doesn’t make up for that. This turns the rifle useless to everyone who specializes in conditions.

This also means conditions-but-not-power-oriented people must find a weapon to replace it, as it no longer serves its original purpose. The problem is, it doesn’t exist.

The bow is not a suitable replacement, as it doesn’t fulfill the same role. In terms of condition damage, the bow is a low yield area conditions weapon, not a high yield single target conditions weapon. Need I remind you that the Burning condition does not stack in intensity, that Combustive Shot is only useful against static targets and that the Fan Of Fire burn effect lasts too little time to be worthwhile against a single target, unless the three arrows strike said target at point blank range to maximize duration? The Pin Down skill does not make up for this, as it doesn’t deal sustained condition damage because the cooldown is such that it cannot be stacked. Pinning someone within the Combustive Shot area is not always possible (or desirable) in the case of some enemies -particularly powerful and large targets against which the rifle was effective- and even this “pin down in the fire” combo still does not make up for what the rifle could do.

In short, bow Burning damage skills last too little time, deal too little condition damage against single targets, and are only useful at short range, or against static targets. The bow is a hybrid weapon best used against multiple targets, for creating combos, and in conjunction with control skills. It is not for single targets, unlike the rifle.

The bow fulfills an entirely different role than the rifle did. As a result, Warriors no longer have specialized single-target ranged conditions functionality. The rifle no longer fulfills this role. The bow never fulfilled this role. You have effectively crippled a class.

Why did you not add a new weapon with very low base damage that could deal Bleed through means of its attack chain? Alternatively, why not make a new weapon specifically oriented for direct damage, single target attacks? No one would have lost anything if this had been the case.

Was I the only bleed/rifle user?

in Warrior

Charr Guardian.1497

You were not the only bleed-rifle user. I used the rifle explicitly for this purpose, and now I feel like I have no ranged condition attacks, because the bow simply doesn’t offer the mobility I need and yields less than one fifth what I was able to deal with the rifle in terms of condition damage.

I do not know the reasoning behind this change, but it seems to me like a typical example of careless problem-solving in which one thing is destroyed to “fix it”. Air conditioning broke again? Demolish the whole building, then there’ll be no need for air conditioning, right?

[Continued…]

You’re taking something that we bought and we liked, and exchanging it for something we dislike, did not ask for, is not functional, and have no use for. Are we supposed not to feel ripped off? Am I not supposed to feel disappointed?

I used to transmute high level armors into low level ones so that I could start using them early on. I upgraded my armors every 10 levels or so, and transmuted them again. Guess how many transmutation stones I used per character? But your new system feels like a way of squeezing us to buy transmutation charges. This makes it hard to feel inclined to buy them.

This was obviously a design decision. I ask you: why? Why did you choose to
‘update’ the game in order to remove a very much functional feature that could have benefit from, but did not require improvement?

I thank you for offering refunds, but the fact that you anticipate that an update will require refunds, already means you’re doing something wrong. Especially considering
there’s various alternatives that would have kept everyone happy. Generally, people want their money back when they feel like their purchase wasn’t worth it, or when you take something away from them.

Refunds are not the solution. We do not want refunds. We want to have no reason to ask for refunds.

The motivation behind an update is improvement and enhancement. You could have made everyone happy simply by enabling all future and existing town clothes pieces to be visible instead of armor with no need to transmute them or require extra inventory space to carry, as in Guild Wars 1. This would also have allowed people to retain customized colors and pieces rather than being forced into defaults.

Instead of improving the functionality of town clothes, it has been hampered.

Let me provide more alternate solutions that aren’t ideal, but still better than the current update:

1.- Convert previously purchased town clothes into independent, dyeable pieces that can be transmuted using the new system.

2.- Keep the old town clothes system, and add a secondary wardrobe for town clothes only. Allow customized dyes and do not enforce matching sets.

3.- Keep the old towns clothes system AND give players copies of the town clothes they purchased, that can be transmuted into armor pieces.

4.- Primary and secondary equipped armor sets, swappable out of combat. One of them to transmute into town clothes.

We would have used those, and you’d have actually gotten me to buy transmutation charges.

You know that I’ve been a BIG supporter and a fan. I purchased most GW1 things a player could possibly buy with cash. I had to make special arrangements to pre-purchase the GW2 Collector’s Edition because it wasn’t available in my country. I bought gems during beta. Bought gems on day 1. I’ve bought a very high number of gems from you since the game launched, spending monthly amounts that greatly surpass the equivalent of a subscription fee. I’ve bought additional copies of GW2 for my friends, who in turn have purchased gems for themselves. I’ve bought the books. I’ve bought Rytlock plushies. I bought the soundtracks (all GW 1 and 2 soundtracks). I’ve written and am writing lengthy fan fiction. I may not have agreed with everything, but I’ve always kept my faith in you and provided my continued support. And this issue makes me feel so disappointed and insulted, that it makes me wonder if that kind of support was a good idea. If this is your latest ‘update’, what will the next one be like?

Finally, I’d like to add that the interface of the new wardrobe system doesn’t seem very streamlined to me and if I could go back to the old one, I would. I understand this may be a matter of personal preference or maybe I just grew too accustomed to the functionality of the old one, so I will ignore this point, and will not consider it something negative. The town clothes, however, require your immediate attention.

This is one of several issues that your update has arisen. It also makes me wonder why you didn’t take an extra month or three to deal with these issues, before launching it?

Before I begin, allow me to remind you of something. “Everything in moderation,
including moderation”
.

Also, know that I am very passionate about Guild Wars and enjoy it thoroughly, but this is an issue that bothers me greatly, and I must discuss it with you.

I’m sure a wardrobe system is something every player might have looked forward to.
Just not the system as it was implemented. Let me get to the point: this is a decrease in quality.

Town clothes. Why didn’t you ask your players before attempting something as outrageous and hideously invasive as this? I understand the content is subject to change, but the way this was handled feels disgusting and abusive, like a way to force me to buy transmutation charges from the new system just so I can transmute the looks of armor into town clothes, rather than simply enabling me to wear town clothes as armor if I choose to do so. Problem is you also took away every single reason I had to wear town clothes, so we both lost something and won nothing. What happened to “Everything in moderation, including moderation”? Here’s the reasons:

1.- Town clothes are now set to default colors. We do not like being forced into default colors, will not wear them anymore, and none of the people I know who are interested in town clothes (that being myself, half my friends, and my roleplaying community) will wear them now, for the same reason.

The green hoodie clashes horribly with my brown fur, the leather hoodie looks dull
and un-interesting without the customized dyes that I took the time to browse, select and buy specifically for it. Now, I also require another inventory slot to carry the tonic with me.

2.- Town clothes tonics now impose pieces on you, that you may or may not have liked. There is a reason I didn’t buy every piece for every character.

3.- Town clothes can not be used in combat anyway, as the tonic disables your utility skills.

RESULT: Town clothes that can not be used in combat, and are no longer desirable to use out of combat. Why not just remove town clothes altogether?

You literally can see a mail pigeon flying by every 2 seconds, and they both exhibit these bot lag/warping issues. They don’t reply even if they seem active, and the mails they send/receive do not stop.

These two guys have been dealt with, but another 2 took their place. Also, they’re in the same guild as the ones that have been erradicated. Is there a specific way to report this kind of botting issue? I have the feeling that investigating their guild would turn up a lot more bots, possibly an entire network.

Charr Cubs - A little confused

in Lore

Posted by: Charr Guardian.1497

Charr Guardian.1497

There was a lore article on this, posted by ArenaNet.

Charr parents keep tabs on their cubs occasionally, but they do not raise the cubs themselves. The cubs are raised in a fahrar, within a group that will become their warband – and their family.

Some charr are more interested than others in developing some form of relationship with their parents (ask Rytlock’s aide-de-campe about it. Though she’s Blood Legion, she seems to have something of a soft spot regarding the subject, and wishes her parents had decided stay in touch with her.)

Charr gladium (former Legion charr) as well as charr born outside charr territories (which, I suppose, would also be considered gladium by Legion charr) do raise cubs by themselves occasionally.

The legions do accept charr who were not raised in a fahrar, provided they’re willing to prove themselves, and there’s a legionnaire willing to take them in (this is the case of a charr engineer somewhere in the Iron Marches).

Don't understand how Guns/Tanks fit in this game.

in Lore

Posted by: Charr Guardian.1497

Charr Guardian.1497

Don’t get me wrong, I love running around with pistols or rifles etc. It makes for great gameplay—so I’m not critiquing their addition to the game.

But from a gw2 universe/lore standpoint, I try to rationalize how this all fits together and it doesn’t make any sense to me at all…

Back in Guild Wars 1, cannons were already available, although limited, to certain human groups (luxon siege turtles anyone?). It would make sense to assume that, before their fall, the ascalonians became even more desperate, and did everything they could to put this foreign technology to use against the charr.

Now, regarding explosives technology in the Guild Wars 1 timeline: the dwarves had reliable powder-based explosives, and the charr had ooze-based explosives (which were difficult to handle).

With explosives technology available, it would seem a natural evolution to attempt to employ such technology in different ways, thus the arrival of personal firearms.

After the Iron Legion reacquired its former territories, and the success of the rebellion against the Flame Legion, charr culture changed deeply. No longer were they willing to rely upon the mystic power of other charr who merely wished to use this power to preserve their privileged position in charr society, but also were unwilling to allow themselves to be manipulated by any kind of greater power, such as a god.

These two events combined, were all the Iron Legion needed to push forward with technological development, thus seeking to harness their very own power. Not granted to them by a god, or acquired through any obscure means, it was simply power created by the charr, and mastered by the charr.

Back to the fireams: history shows us that whenever someone makes a weapon with the potential of changing the outcome of an entire war, everyone will do their best to acquire or replicate the capabilities of such weapons. Thus, were the charr firearms copied by the other races.

And now, regarding the use of bows and melee weapons when firearms are already available (and I mean the real world human history): when firearms were first introduced, they were less desirable than crossbows (which, at the time had already replaced bows). A crossbow was much more precise and would pack more punch, than any pistol available.

A lot of refinements had to be implemented, in order to turn firearms into reliable weapons that could potentially outmatch every other available weapon in the battlefield, such as the introduction of rifled barrels (which is available as a trait to engineers, and thus suggests that the vast majority of firearms currently in use in the Guild Wars 2 universe, lack rifled barrels – this severely cripples their accuracy and effective range).

Now, regarding firearms and armor in real human history: at the beginning, plate armor would still provide protection against firearms, and bullets would not penetrate it unless at short or point blank range (it also depended on the caliber and the amount and type of gunpowder used, but plate armor was still the only thing that provided protection against bullets). As the weapons evolved and were more broadly accepted, certain types of armor were eventually phased out (such as chainmail) as they were completely useless against the increasingly common firearms.

Plate armor was the last one to be phased out, and it happened not because it no longer provided protection against firearms, but because it had to be too heavy and cumbersome to provide an acceptable degree of protection against the ever increasing power of the firearms. It became too expensive and impractical.

Regarding the existence of tanks within the current Guild Wars timeline, this doesn’t seem like a strange idea to me. We know that Leonardo da Vinci drew sketches of a tank, during a time when firearms were available, but some of the most common methods of land-based transportation, were still carriages and carts.

Granted, the charr tanks are nothing like da Vinci’s sketches, but there’s one thing that must be taken into account: the charr industrial revolution. Steam drives charr machinery.

We know the potential of steam to produce work (the mechanical definition of work) was discovered by the ancient greek. Unfortunately, at this moment I can’t remember the name of the man who discovered it. Some historians believe the true potential of steam could have been discovered earlier in history, if certain social conditions had lent themselves to that; among them, the need to find an alternate means of producing work, that outmatched animal power (granted, eolic and hydraulic power were in use, but in a very limited way.).

The charr met precisely the right combination of conditions they needed in order to take the next leap forward, to their industrial revolution.

Now, regarding Glint, where did you get the information that she was freed from Kralkatorrik’s control through magic? I thought it was a personal choice to stop serving the elder dragons, and stop the cycle of destruction. Did I miss something when I read Edge of Destiny?

The GW1 heroes. "Only just discovered history"

in Lore

Posted by: Charr Guardian.1497

Charr Guardian.1497

I think there’s a few important things that aren’t being taken into account.

Regarding any incomplete historical records: all surviving historical records from human history were present in Lion’s Arch when the city was destroyed by the flood. We know the Order of Whispers’ role in helping preserve these records by placing them in the hands of the Durmand Priory. However, as with any other catastrophic event, we can assume that at least some of these records, were lost. Additionally, not all records were present in Lion’s Arch, I would assume most of them were Tyrian historical records; canthan and elonian records would be kept in their respective nations (which are now inaccesible and would account for any shortcomings regarding availability of specific information on some subjects).

Now, regarding the other issues: Abaddon was definitely THE force of evil acting pulling the strings. However, even though he manipulated the human and charr, the other races weren’t affected by Abaddon in the same way, or at all (such as the asura, the norn, and the sylvari who didn’t even exist back then). Considering the charr perspective on the subject, it was the titans and the Flame Legion that manipulated them, and modern charr still hate both with passion.

Now, back to the humans, they know of Abaddon because they worship Kormir; the struggle against abaddon is part of how she became a godess. However, keep in mind that all this happened in Elona. Orrians were too dead to care about this, Ascalonians were probably didn’t hear much, due to their relationship with Kryta and that they were more worried about fighting for their lives.

Tyrians in general didn’t know much about it until Kormir’s ascension, save for Kormir’s journey to Lion’s Arch and the strange events that transpired in the city but did not repeat themselves (they probably forgot about it relatively soon after it was dealt with, since it was a brief event with no collateral repercussions to them.)

Also, we must take into account that human society has changed; some people don’t know exactly what to make of the gods. Go visit a human temple. I get the impression that the gods have been absent for so long, that all this has turned more into a strictly faith-based religion, and less into honest worship (almost pagan, if you will) in which the followers were absolutely convinced that there was a higher power at work, a tangible power they could see, and commune with.

We’ve got all these humans from many different places, living in a single one, all with different traditions revolving around the same gods, and they try to merge them all into a single element that encompasses all traditions, thus making it less specific to each group. It encompasses human society as a whole, but is now less connected to the essence of each human group as a result, less compelling.

Furthermore, I’m under the impression that human government – the ministry, in particular – isn’t interested in people having a broad understanding of where exactly human society stands in the world. The less people know about everything, the better. (That’s how I think of the ministry, anyway – I admit I haven’t uncovered all their is to know on this subject, and I may change this opinion).

Magnus the Bloody Handed

in Lore

Posted by: Charr Guardian.1497

Charr Guardian.1497

There’s several direct references to Magnus by several people in Lion’s Arch (one of them at the black market) but, so far, I think the only place directly related to them, is the luxury bar where the captains’ council meets to discuss important matters.

As for the incident at Claw Island, I wouldn’t be so certain. Clearly, Magnus fought the undead along with Destiny’s Edge several years before, but they didn’t run into an actual dragon back then, they were going to sink an undead ship. To me, it would seem a good idea to let the orders handle it, since they’re the ones that know how to deal with them.

If I were Magnus himself though, I’d be working closely with them to see what’s the deal with the defense of my city. What with the ships the orders used to sail to Claw Island, to take it back? Maybe Magnus arranged for those ships to be in the service of the orders.

The only real way Magnus could deal with the undead at Claw Island, was through the Lionguard. However, they proved to be incapable of dealing with the threat without aid from the orders.

The material definitely looked similar to the roofs on the dwarven houses, but much of their architecture when it came to walls and towers used wood instead of stone or metal (whatever it may be) This makes me wonder if it wasn’t some remnant of one of the ancient races, though it doesn’t appear like jotun style, from what little we’ve seen, nor does it appear to be created by the forgotten, assuming the structures in the crystal desert were created by the forgotten.

Some of the structures in the crystal desert, were created by the Margonites. A fallen human civilization, all worshippers of Abaddon.

Later, the followers of Turai Ossa arrived and settled the area as well, but never completed some of their buildings

Glint's offspring and the dwarves *SPOILERS*

in Lore

Posted by: Charr Guardian.1497

Charr Guardian.1497

SPOILER ALERT : Do not proceed unless you’ve read Edge of Destiny and played Eye of the North.

We know the dwarves saved some of Glint’s hatchlings back in GW1. Although I was unable to get the information first-hand, as I was never able to complete that challenge.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is a fact: at least one of Glint’s hatchlings survived.

And we know this for certain: The dwarves, along with the Brotherhood of the Dragon, are gone for good.

And that last fact arouses some questions. Might this be related to the reason Ogden remained on the surface of Tyria? Could it be possible that, somehow, Ogden Stonehealer is now guarding Glint’s legacy?

If any hatchlings survived, we know they weren’t present when Glint was killed by Kralkatorrik, which would imply these two possibilities: they were elsewhere, or they were already dead.

It has come to my attention that some interaction with Ogden Stonehealer, is available during the norn storyline. Is it possible to get something out of Ogden any other way? I’m with the Priory and he’ll barely talk to me.

Silvari immune to Zhaitan?

in Lore

Posted by: Charr Guardian.1497

Charr Guardian.1497

I’m not very knowledgeable of Guild Wars’ lore but from what i have seen… I’d assume the Risen are literally from Orr, when it sank, it killed people then as it was brought back up so where they. Since no Sylvari existed to drown with the island, none came up with it.

Or something else, who knows?

As far as I’m concerned, “Orrian Undead” is a trademark of Vizier Khilbron, all rights reserved. Well, I guess Zhaitan didn’t care much about the rights…

Anyway, the point is, even though Zhaitan’s servants collect corpses from the mainland and ship them to Orr, there were already orrian undead before Zhaitan’s arrival. Also, we’ve got this trailer showing Zhaitan’s rise along with some undead servants, which would mean that at least some undead were already present there. Likely orrian ones.

AND, most importantly, we have risen orrians all over the place. Risen princes, risen generals, risen nobles, risen bufoons, risen farmers, risen chickens, you name it. Something I’d like to know about these risen, is: did Zhaitan create them, or did he repurpose them? Meaning Khilbron was responsible for their creation, through Abaddon’s influence. I’d like to know exactly how these undead came to be assuming they’re Khilbron’s creations and, if so, why they weren’t imprisoned within the Realm of Torment.

That said, I do understand very clearly, that Zhaitan does indeed manufacture undead. I’m not suggesting otherwise, I’m merely speculating on the origin of the first ones he used.

Well, I still haven’t finished my personal story, I guess there might be more information out there, somewhere.

There’s corrupted plants at the Dragonbrand. Granted, it’s Kralkatorrik’s doing and not Zhaitan’s, but it’s still a form of dragon corruption.

And have you seen those disgusting plant-like things in Orr? Check the path that leads from the Cathedral of Eternal Radiance, to the Ossuary. They’re in many other places as well.

Hi guys,

I don’t really want to get flamed for this post… But when I watch videos of ppl playing their characters you never see the cursor. So how does this 1-9 button pushing work. Do you have a different set of movement buttons? Instead of w a s z?.. My fingers feel so clumsy. Is it still possible to be a good player using a traditional method of mouse?
Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You can get accustomed to the controls or not, but what really matters is that you understand what you want to use them for. If the default keybindings just don’t work for you, switch them for a personalized setup.

I’d say the most important things you need in order to become a good player, is an understanding of how the classes work, discovering which skills and weapons suit you best, and enjoying how you do whatever it is you do. That, and learning when to dodge, and when to receive a blow in order to save the endurance for a more critical moment.

I have bad news for you: so far, I haven’t found another way to get that backpack. I actually would like an equivalent or similar looking higher level version of it; the guild backpack looks good, but it’s by no means an engineer’s backpack, with the tools and all that.

Are the charr the evil one?

Nobody believes they are evil. Even the worst of bad guys believe they are doing the right thing from their perspective.

The concept of retaliation, warring, scorched earth policy, torture, etc. being wrong is seen from a perspective that may not necessarily apply in Tyria and most certainly doesn’t apply as the Charr see it. Besides that, the world isn’t really pressuring them to change and is actually seeking to end war with them, rather than saying outright “They are evil and wrong and we need to stop them from it.”

The Charr warred with the Forgotten before the humans arrived, but it is not clear if/when they took over the lands known as Ascalon. The Forgotten used to cover the entire world as an apex race, but eventually were pushed out and back to the Crystal Desert, in part due to humans as well. So whose claim to Ascalon is “right” still, and always will remain a matter of perspective.

As for all the strife and destruction that the humans sustained in the past, that was largely the work of Abaddon. He used humans and Charr alike to manipulate events leading up to his (almost) freedom.

That’s the best answer you’ll get.

The bug has been fixed. They all glow at night regardless of whether or not you were in that map during nightfall.

How to disable bots - Cailewyn's method

in Players Helping Players

It doesn’t disable them at all, all you do is slow them down for a couple of seconds. All what happens is that the bot dies, respawns at nearest waypoint, run back and start farming again. You don’t even saddle them up with a repair bill, as bots are usually running around in their undies. If you want to effectively disable the bots, you’re gonna ahve to stay with the, and give them a piece of scrap metal as soon as they return from the waypoint. Which prevents you from doing anything else. Good luck :P

I hate bots as much as you do and I love messing with them as much as you do. But calling it “a partial solution” is way off. All we can do is report them and wait for Anet to handle it.

The scraps can keep them busy for up to 20 minutes before they get killed, and not all the bots respawn automatically. I’ve watched them.

Besides, the bots “breed” faster than they’re being erradicated. I keep track of all the bots I’ve reported, and there’s some that I reported over a month ago, still running rampant. I’ll take anything that’ll help me deal with them.

I have 3000 to spend on a gaming laptop

First things first: if you want a gaming laptop, go for a high-end processor (not necessarily top-of-the-line, but you should get as close to that as your budget allows), and a top of the line graphics card. I believe your budget allows for a SLI or Crossfire setup. Don’t think twice, go for that when it comes to gaming laptops.

My personal reccomendation: Sager. The NP9370 is currently the top of the line, and it features a backitten keyboard. And yes, it will run GW2 on max settings at 60 fps (possibly more, if you don’t enable v-sync). Just remember what I said about always picking the top of the line graphics card setup for gaming laptops.

I currently have a NP7280 (Clevo x7200) which is now the ancestor to the NP9370. I’ve tried Alienware before (m17x – yes, the original one, NOT the M17x). Not bad, but I would say Sager offers a better price-performance ratio, not to mention it’s relatively easy to find spare parts and upgrades (and that includes graphics card upgrades – they’re non-proprietary, MXM-compliant) for Sager laptops. Sager also offers much better internal cooling, and it’s really easy to open a Sager for maintenance and cleanup, you just remove 1 panel and you have access to everything but the hard drives (unlike my m17x, in which you had to remove the graphics cards along with the heatsinks and the cooling fans for every cleanup, and the cards themselves caught dust due to the airflow and vent arrangement). Go for an official Sager reseller, as they offer better prices. I reccomend XoticPC, they offer excellent service.

Back to the laptop, the one I’ve got is more of a desktop replacement. It runs a desktop i7 960 (allows for the 990X) and a dual GTX 485m setup that gets me through basically every game I throw at it. I always use v-sync, so I don’t know how far it may go past 60 fps, but that’s the average I get on almost every game at max settings. On the most hardware-intensive games I’ve tried, I never get less than 30 fps – and the GTX 485m is what, like 2 years old already?

Since you’re buying a gaming laptop, do pick a Bigfoot Networks Killer network card. It DOES make a performance difference, I can tell you that (from personal experience: Killer = faster, Intel = better signal strength at long range).

Don’t expect to run this kind of computer on battery. It will last 1 hour or so on power saving mode. Even on high performance, the battery won’t provide enough juice for the computer to run as it would when it’s plugged in (with v-sync, I get 60 fps average on GW2 at max settings while plugged in, and it drops to 5-8 fps on battery).

One more thing that is irrelevant to me, but might be important to you, is the fact that this laptop is big. Quite big, and quite heavy as far as laptop standards go. You really can’t expect something different from a laptop of this type, not with the massive copper heatsinks and the 4 cooling fans you’ll find inside.

EDIT: Is something wrong with the forums? For some reason, the post clearly shows “backitten” instead of “backitten”. It shows the correct word on the edit menu, but the error remains on the original post.

EDIT: Just discovered the word L I T is being replaced for I T T E N. What’s this?

How to disable bots - Cailewyn's method

in Players Helping Players

I’m from the Borlis Pass server. I don’t know how the other servers fare bot-wise, but we currently have a hideously large bot population.

We all wish we could burn, slash, snipe, blow up, disintegrate, drown, poison, bathe in acid, punch, drive over, implode, impale, cut in pieces, raise as minion, grind with a permabanhammer (or better, Dhuum’s scythe) every single bot we run into. Ok, well, maybe not all of us, but at least I do wish I could do that to the people running the bots <insert evil, maniacal charr laugh here>.

There is a partial solution.

I thank a player by the name of Cailewyn for discovering and sharing a method to disable bots roaming around the Cursed Shore. This method may be used in other places as well, depending on the availability of the required resources. I believe certain skills and consumables that spawn map objects should also do the trick, though not as effectively (you’ll see why in a minute).

If you’re at the Cursed Shore, you’ll see that there’s piles of metal scraps near the Anchorage Waypoint. They spawn around that location, due to a dynamic event. These scraps do not expire, and they’re not considered as weapons of opportunity, so all weapon skills will be disabled for as long as you carry them.

All you have to do is pick up a scrap and drop it on top of something a bot has killed. It may take more than a single attempt, but if you pull it off, the bot will pick up the metal scraps instead of looting the corpse. Once, I even had a bot run towards the scraps.

As soon as the bot bites, all it will do is run around like a fool, drawing enemy attention while doing nothing but activate utility skills. This will slow them down, as their pets will have to do all the killing, and the bot is likely to die eventually.

Share this method with others, and don’t forget to thank Cailewyn for helping us deal with the bot pest.
