Don’t go grenades guys. Especially for PvE, I don’t care how mind blowing the damage is, it is not worth the carpal tunnel.

I want undead exploding chickens! We wouldn’t be having these morbid discussions about baby skulls if bone minions were exploding chickens instead. Make it happen XD

I might be a bit biased here.. but I would love to change bone minions into undead chickens. You know, the kind that explode in cursed shores.

The Reason minions have no health regen

the main reason why they have no regen is so that players would not park their character near a spawn point and go afk for hours of end allowing them to come back and pick up as many loot bags what ever your pets killed

A very sensible reason. Although I feel that there are plenty of better ways to address this. i.e. stop minions from auto-attacking near by enemies if player afked for more than 5 mins.

Given how unresponsive minions could be at times, I have a feeling that if people try to abuse this afk leveling, they’d find their own corpse waiting more often than not.

As other have pointed out, engineers had already abused the afk leveling for months before they implemented the 5min despawn for turrets in the recent patch. It would seem unlikely that they stopped necro’s minion health regen for this purpose yet completely overlook Engineer’s ability to do the same thing.

Furthermore, why doesn’t this apply to ranger pets or flesh golem? Those two can easily take down a few mobs on their own.

@Kharr

Are you suggesting that having no health regen on minions is somehow making it more interesting to play? Is deciding between waiting a few more secs to get your minions back to full health vs going into battle with damaged minions really such an interesting of a game mechanic that it would be horrible to live without?

I agree that Fungalfoot’s auto-revive suggestion is unnecessary. Plus there’s no way we’ll get that anyways. Although I disagree that having minion health regen will dumb down gameplay.

Personally, I don’t think making minions interesting and having health regen are mutually exclusive ideas. While GW1 minion management is indeed far more interesting, I feel it’s unproductive to compare the GW2 minions to GW1 minions because the mechanics are too different.

The minion health regen design decision should be looked at on its own merit within the GW2 context.

This isn’t a nerf, it is a direct buff from GW1, where minions would die very easily from degen alone if you didn’t nearly spam BotM or have a very consistent corpse supply.

Looks like we’ve found the reason why minions don’t have health regen out-of-combat. The reason is… We got buffed!.

As sarcastic as I may sound, I actually do think Bhawb is right here. That was probably all that went through the dev’s head when making this decision. Oh well, time to close the thread.

Yes this was a design choice. That’s what I’ve stated all along. I simply failed to see why it was a “Good” design choice.

From a balance perspective, there are far better ways to handle nerfs. This handicap is inconsistent at best. It doesn’t really stop necros from bringing full health minions to fights. It only adds an annoyance.

@DelOnasai

I doubt this is a bug since most players don’t even view it as a bug. Most have just accepted it as how things work.

It’s not even included in the Necro Bugs Complilations sticky. I think the chances of it ever getting “fixed” are slim to none.

@The Primary

Your explanation probably makes the most sense. It’s also probably the most depressing. Of all the great things the GW1 necro had to offer, this is the dumb idea they decided to carry forth. =(

Yes, we need to kill off the minion in order to re-summon. This can be done with skill swaps. Again, an annoyance.

I don’t disagree that this is a minor point. Since it’s against the norm, a designer must have actively thought to put this little regen handicap on minions.

I just can’t imagine what they’re trying to accomplish besides trolling us a little.

Perhaps I missed the memo on this one, but does anyone know why most minions aren’t allowed to have health regeneration out-of-combat?

It puzzles me because Necros are still allowed to re-summon or use traited life transfer to get healthy minions again.

Was having full health minions so OP that we need this handicap? If so, why does Flesh Golem get out-of-combat health regen?

Especially in PvE, this lack of out-of-combat health regen for minions appears to serves no other purpose than to be an inconvenience/annoyance.

Did someone on the dev team ever explained the reason for this awkward design decision?

Necromancer: my opinion

Necro was the very first character I created when GW2 opened. Coming from GW1 I was extremely excited to play this class again. Unfortunately, something just didn’t feel right.

My first summon was 2 black rat-sized minions. Arguably the worst looking minion I’ve ever seen in any video game. No charm what so ever. Not only did they look and fight terribly weak, their secondary ability was to die even faster. What a first impression! Now, the minions from GW1 wasn’t pretty but it at least looked and acted more functional than this.

The weapon skill were as the OP said, meh. Needing something to look forward to, I peeked at the wiki to look at the necro skill list. All of them looked terribly uninteresting. I’m sure they’re quite functional from a gameplay point of view, but all the fun skills from GW1 were gone. Only skill I was looking forward to was the flesh golem… but I simply couldn’t stand the class enough to make it to level 30.

Fast forward months later to now. I have three level 80 characters and my necro is still level 16… Just as I’ve forgotten how awesome GW1’s necro was and decide to give it another shot, I came across this post…

Boon Hate. Thoughts.

Problem with Boon Hate:
1) Irrelevant in PvE. How many boons is on that mob you’re fighting? Do we need to buy separate gears for WvW and PvE now?
2) Not all boons are equal. If boon hate is doing damage based on number of boons that’s on you, people have have to avoid that 1 stack of might buff that lasts 20 seconds.

Petition: Target skill use indicators

in Suggestions

Posted by: Chickenbone.5918

Chickenbone.5918

Back in Guild Wars 1, there’s an UI indicator to show you which skill your target is currently using and its casting time.

It was monumentally helpful due to several reasons:

1. You cannot decipher all skills by animation alone.
2. Target can be obscured by effects or difficult to see due to size or angel.
3. Lag between the animation and the actual effects taking place can make timing even more difficult.
4. Knowing which skill your opponent is using is critical for dodging, interrupts, counters, staying alive, and just general skill based gameplay.

It’s really unfortunate that such a useful mechanic wasn’t retained in GW2

Please take the time to post/sign this petition if you agree with this suggestion. Thank you

Things that grant us Retaliation:

1. “Save Yourselves!” (16s)
2. “Stand Your Ground!” (8s)
3. Standing in Symbol of Wrath (1s/tick)
4. Leaping out of SoW (7s)
5. Activating any virtue (7s)

These durations don’t take into account the +25% retal duration trait. You don’t even have to be in combat to test it for yourself.

Totally forgot about #4 and #5. Thanks Chris. Loving the build.

Thanks for clearing up for me. Tho can you clarify how you got 100% retaliation up time? The math isn’t adding up for me.

Hey Chris,

There’s two tweaks that I would like you to comment on.

1) Switching Two-hand mastery to Watchful Spirit.

Crazy, but hear me out. 20% faster cooldown on the greatsword is awesome, yes. But with this play style, we’re pretty switching weapons constantly. Greatsword already have pretty short cooldowns. Most of these will be up by the time we switch back. Getting a 5 second retaliation (due to our build) whenever Aegis ends, seems far more useful. We’re pretty much getting a free retiliation every 30 seconds while in combat

2) Switching Defender’s flame to Retributive Armor

This one is a little bit more iffy, but I feel that increasing our crit rate from 4% to 8% (or 24% to 28%) creates a greater consistant dps increase than the situational burn that only happens during block.

Let me know what you think.
