Request for Glider skin endpoint

in API Development

I was wondering if it would be possible to (someday) create a gliders API like the one for minipets (which I love by the way!). At the moment I can find the various glider unlocks in the items API, but this leaves out the basic glider skin, and I’d like to create a complete list. It would also make gliders a lot easier to find instead of having to sort through all of the items!

Filter items results by type?

Chiuna.2538

For the official API is there a way to generate a list of all items of a certain type?

I’m looking to create a database of all the minipets in the game (and automate the process of keeping the database updated when new minis are released). I can get the item type from the official items API and discard the results that aren’t minis, but that means going through a lot of non-mini ids too. It isn’t too big a hurdle since I won’t need to update my list very often, but maybe I’m missing an easier solution?

For my purposes I don’t really care about anything more than keeping an updated list of mini names, ids, and icon paths so if anybody has an alternative suggestion of a good source for this info that would also be welcome!

I understand the need for some changes to the NPE (I’ve had friends from GW1 not even stick with the game long enough to get to level 80 because they just weren’t enjoying the early parts). But I do question the shift in game direction. Previously there has been a big push towards the idea that fun doesn’t begin at end-game and that the entire game is end-game type content. With the elite skill not unlocking until the leveling process is halfway over, it seems like the early levels really are just a training grounds now. What are the intentions here?

I’ve only looked at the English language forum, but the next PvE topic based on that would be Class Balance. By my quick count, the top 5 most requested topics were:

Living Story/Temporary nature of content – 131
Class Balance – 95
New Armor sets/Weapon Skins – 81
Ascended gear – 80
Rewards vs. Time/Effort/Skill – 80

Depending on how broad the discussion topics chosen are going to be, this may not be an accurate list. For example, I counted requests for guild halls separately from those for additional guild functionality, but if those two were combined into a general “guilds” category they would come ahead of Class Balance.

I made simple pie charts of what people voted for here: http://imgur.com/a/8zHpX Note that the overview chart is a bit subjective based on my decisions of how to group items into 10 categories, for details on what people voted for exactly see the charts of the categories.

In light of the difficulty with knowing what things should be grouped together, I would suggest that if another round of voting is held, that a list of topics to pick from is provided. Without a list of topics, players interested in the same thing might accidentally compete with each other, for example by some saying they want to talk about Expansions and others saying they want to talk about New Zones. Of course these topics are not identical, but I think that in many cases groups of topics are similar enough that players interested in discussing one would be interested in discussing the others.

I would like to request that the topics begin with more information from the devs. The last set of three topics just gave a couple words on the subject and said go. Then after lots of suggestions it was revealed that some things (like a longer than 2 weeks release schedule) weren’t even on the table. Next time, please give a rough guideline for our feedback so we don’t waste each other’s time. Give us an idea of changes you are considering, and tell us up front if there are things that you’re not going to consider changing.

I also feel like it would help greatly if we had a better idea of where the devs are wanting this game to go. The original manifesto seems to no longer apply and I find it very difficult to describe things as being good or bad for the game if I don’t know what the goal is. Is this game supposed to be such that everything is accessible to anybody if they put in a bit of time? Are there some challenges you mean to reserve for the hardcore? What is the current stance on horizontal vs. vertical progression? What are your goals for class balance?

For example, the Tequatl update has made Sparkfly Fen a ghost town for most servers most of the day, but people who organize into guilds dedicated to it have no trouble killing him on overflows multiple times a day. Without knowing what was intended it is hard for me to help evaluate this change. If you mean to progress the game towards having some content reserved for the dedicated players only then this is a great step! But if the goal of the living world is to encourage random people to overcome challenges as they arise then this was a total failure. Without knowing the goal the only feedback I can offer is that it sucks that nobody kills Tequatl anymore on my server during my normal playtime.

That’s just one example but I feel a lack of understanding of intended game direction is going to be a problem no matter what the CDI topic being discussed is. So to summarize; please give us more information so that we can give you better feedback.

There seems to be a lot of talk about consequences for failure but as someone who plays during non-peak times I’d like to say that I am very much against this idea.

Remember when the game was new and exploring the world meant random strangers would converge around dynamic events? That is nothing like my average play experience these days. More often than not Dynamic Events I find are stalled with NPCs that need to be rezzed; and if I do happen to see another player near a DE they are probably running past rather than stopping to complete it. And I don’t mean only the tiny random events are being ignored; Jormag’s crystals will sit for hours and I often see Shatterer fail because there’s just a couple people there and we can’t beat the timer.

Side-note: why was a timer added? Honest question, I am really wondering what the goal of that change was. One of the coolest fights I had in GW2 was taking down Shatterer with 3 people before the timer was put in. Now if there’s no zerg it is pointless to even try fighting. Players in small groups trying to take down a dragon put in a lot more effort than members of the zerg and yet we’re punished by a timer just because we play at unpopular times? If the intention is that the dragons fly away after a while of being ignored that’s fine, but couldn’t there first be a check to see if players were still trying to win?

If consequences for failure exist, or mechanics are introduced that require large groups or long chains to reclaim enemy territory, then I think the game will suddenly get a lot less fun for non-peak/low-world-population players. Even if you make the events possible for small groups, lonely players will still be at a huge disadvantage. Think of the centaur chain in Harathi. Sure someone solo or a small group can take all the land from the centaurs and move the chain all the way from Seraph’s Landing to Ulgoth. But compared to a zerg, they’ll spend longer doing those events for fewer rewards (since zergs scale up the number of enemies and therefore loot drops). Eventually those small groups will give up on the idea and the centaurs will just get to control the northern camps all the time.

So please, if you want to include negative consequences for failing events, fine. But give those an arbitrary timer just like you give the events themselves. So players who come in at odd times aren’t stuck playing in harsh conditions constantly just because nobody was around to prevent things from getting bad.

Skipping levels

If you watch the bottom of the screen when you level, you’ll see that the yellow bar fills up and the numbers change immediately, before the yellow bar moves back to the left.

So if you go from 34→35, what you’ll see is the full bar and the numbers 35→36, then the full bar will shrink down to whatever the correct % is. So perhaps you are getting confused about what level you should be?

Time Gating Is -> NOT FUN

Consider this… You want to make it so it takes 2 weeks to craft an item.

I think the real question here is, why do we want it to take 2 weeks to craft the item? With many goals in game accomplishing them is a matter of effort (or luck, but let’s not get distracted) rather than calendar days. Why do we need to use calendar days as a metric at all?

If something takes X-amount of hours to complete, would it not be more fun if I could choose for myself how to divide up that X? If I want to finish world exploration I can do it gradually over 5 months or I can grind it out in a few weeks, but the amount of work put into it is the same and the choice was mine about how I wanted to split up doing the work. Can you imagine if Anet introduced a time-gate on world exploration? Or levels? That would be crazy. So why is it fine for them to do so with crafting?

In your example you compare logging in a few minutes a day vs. farming for 750 karka shells. I don’t think anybody would prefer to farm 750 karka shells but at least if that was what was required I could choose when I wanted to do it. If I understand your example correctly you are claiming that if you have to farm an average of 8 hours a day for 15 days, then being able to only farm 2 hours one of those days is the same as missing a time-gated day. But that fails to take into account the fact that you could choose to farm more than 8 hours a day on other days. If I have to farm 8 hours a day for 15 days but I’m gone for a weekend, I can farm those extra 16 hours over other days in the time period to not fall behind. If the reward is time-gated to once a day and I can’t log in for a weekend then I am simply out of luck.

I realize that the idea behind time-gating content is to narrow the gap between people who have hours a day to invest and those that don’t. But the point here is that it is not fun. Players want to be rewarded for their efforts, not their attendance.

Imagine I get banned because of hypocritic ppl like that.

First off, I don’t think Anet decides who to ban because people on a forum thought they should be.

Second, to me personally, this incident does seem very similar to previous ones that people did get banned for. But that’s not really even the point.

The point is that Anet needs to be a lot more clear on the exploits issue. There is obvious disagreement and confusion among the playerbase about what constitutes “too good to be true.” I am still waiting for the FAQ on exploits they announced would be published “soon” back in August after the karma weapons ordeal. I get it that it is hard to imagine every possible bug that could happen, and I’m not saying we need a comprehensive list.. but more guidelines would really help here!

Bans have been issued in the past for less serious offences, so I would be surprised if none are handed out now. I only wish that people who indirectly profited (such as buying the cheap minis on the TP) could also have those profits removed. Because the message lately seems to be – don’t exploit, find a way to profit from those that do.

Happy Hour is Recruiting!

Founded during the headstart event by a group of GW1 friends, Happy Hour is a small, mature, and relaxed PvE-focused guild that is looking to grow. Most members are on the Stormbluff Isle server. Our members are at different places on the Hardcore – Casual spectrum, but in general we are a guild for people who would be Hardcore if real life didn’t limit our playtime. We clear hard content, we put some thought into our group compositions, and we expect that if someone doesn’t know what to do they will speak up so that we can guide them. That said, we are happy to teach people and do not refuse to take people along because they are inexperienced or because of their choice in profession.

For our members we can offer:

  • Late night dungeon runs every night, usually starting between 10:00 & 11:00 PM PST.
  • Weekly guild bounty missions to earn commendations – we are looking to grow to move up to other guild content.
  • A guild ventrilo server as well as private guild forums.
  • Help and advice with leveling, gearing up, and doing dungeons.
  • A guild without drama.

It was explained in the other thread that the hero panel isn’t able to display conditional stats, such as magic find increases that only happen while under the effects of a boon. In contrast, this bug relates to magic find from magic find armor itself, which should be affecting the wearer at all times but for some reason something is changing after entering the downed state.

While this could very well be another display bug, the two cases seem rather different. Since there is no way for us as players to know whether we must re-equip our armor after every rally to get its full benefits, an official response on this issue would be most helpful.

After going into the downed state in combat, magic find stats built into armor and weapons no longer contribute to the magic find score displayed in the hero panel.

To reproduce:
Equip a piece of armor or a weapon from the Explorer’s, Traveler’s, or Wayfarer’s set. Note your magic find score.

Allow yourself to enter the downed combat state, and then rally.

Your magic find score will no longer include the 3% from that piece of magic find gear.

To fix, re-equip the magic find gear.

I have tested this in level 80 areas and it is not a result of stats being scaled by level. Likewise other sources of magic find from runes, boosts, and accessories seem to be unaffected.

You can see in the screenshot that I am wearing (only) a Traveler’s staff with a built-in 3% magic find, but that my magic find under the attributes section is displayed as 0.

Issues with 'Join In' and playing with party members

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Chiuna.2538

Chiuna.2538

Ever since the last patch (and not before it!) I have had problems with the party window not updating properly when people are added or removed from the group. The party window seems to get ‘stuck’ at random points in time, and after that happens no changes to the group’s composition are visible to me. So the party window often shows people who are no longer in the party as being there, or fails to show people who have been added. Furthermore, for party members that I do see in the window, if they change characters or zones I will not see that either.

The other day I was exploring in Dredgehaunt Cliffs after completing a path of SE with a guild-mate. The party window was stuck and continued to show my guild-mate as being in the dungeon even though they were on another character doing something else. Whenever I would use a waypoint within the zone, I would get a prompt to join my party in SE (clicking on the button to join made the prompt go away but did not result in me going into the dungeon) despite the fact that nobody was in there anymore.

This problem persists upon logging out to the character screen and back into the game, but is fixed if I completely close and restart the client.

An example from tonight is attached: here I had for the entire path of the dungeon a ‘Party Join’ request flashing on the side of my screen for someone who was inside the dungeon with me.

It is frustrating to have to restart the client so many times just to be able to see my group members! Is there another work-around or fix for this?

100% world completion bug?

Chiuna.2538

Apologies if this has been mentioned, I skimmed everything and did not see it. I’ve heard that if you use the consumable items for skill points in areas that the skill point was not located in, it will fill in the skill point on the world map but will not register for zone completion until you visit the original zone again. So if you saved any skill point food to eat elsewhere you might want to try re-visiting those zones! Maybe this is the cause for one of you?
