If anyone happens into an overflow with the event going on, I would appreciate it if you could hit me with an invite!
Jesus, I keep trying to join you peoples groups that are being posted not even 1 minute ago and theyre full already -_-
Why not look at your traits and decide what to make yourself instead of being a robot and having people tell you what to be. I find it comical….
If you actually took the time to read the posts, youd see that I mention that I have tried builds in HotM but that things that work there dont necessarily translate well into WvW.
Instead, I come here asking for opinions from people that have played other builds and to share their experiences with those builds in the hopes that I can find something to try myself. Its sort of like a peer review for a science paper or something.
Blindly wading into trait builds looking for something that might work is time consuming. Why do that when I can just seek knowledge here and have a somewhat directed path to take when I do get to play?
Take your sarcastic ignorance elsewhere please, and leave this thread as constructive as possible.
Thanks for the responses everyone.
I have 2 daggers in my backpack that I ran with when I was solo/en route to the zerg after a death, but that was basically just for escape/evasion if I happened to run into trouble. My guild likes to have a group called “skirmishers” run out and harass enemy troops during sieges to get them off the gate and potentially on the defensive, so maybe I can fit into that group (its usually just guardians) if I play D/D.
The problem is that the best place to practice new builds is in the Heart of the Mists, but unfortunatly trying out WvW builds there doesnt help much. Things that potentially work well against the NPC enemies there might not translate to WvW that well.
I might consider rolling around in a glass cannon build for awhile, the issue is that im in the process of trying to get my exotic set crafted, so id like to figure out a definative spec to gear for.
The support capacity of the Ele post-EA nerf just doesnt, atleast imo, warrant the sacrifice in potential damage output I can probably bring, especially when it comes to clearing walls during sieges of taking out ram operators.
With the old EA I could actually put out some baller healing, atleast enough that it was decently useful, even if each blast finisher only was 2-3k heal, 3 of em in a row added up. Now at most I can only get is 2, and that requires preperation in earth attunement which might not be possible during a siege for emergency healing.
I also cant really assist my team with high might stacks with only 2 potential blast finishers from myself, and doesnt allow me to assist teammates with their own combo fields in any real capacity anymore.
So really, my only choice would seem to be to move to a damage spec.
As the topic states, im in the market for a new build. Without EA blast finishers theres no point in continuing with my support build, since I cant really do much supporting anymore.
I strictly do WvW, so im just looking for a build thats gonna let me put out some solid damage, while still being able to survive as well. Ill be sticking with staff, so ill need atleast 20 points in arcana, but im at a loss as to where to put the rest.
Power/Condition Damage?
Power/Precision?
Trait allocations?
Ive never had to build my Ele for anything other than support, and I play D/D in sPvP so any input is appreciated.
If combos relied on other professions, we wouldnt be able to do them ourselves at all. I always thought that Elementalists were designed around being combo’ers, supplying allies with boons of various types to supplement teammates capabilities in lieu of the fact that Elementalists are a fairly weak class both offensivly and/or defensivly. The design of the class seems to fit with this mentality, imo atleast.
I doubt the profession dev team is the same as the team thats creating the new content, but if it is then I think they do need to be criticized. This is the second time that ive seen them unnecessarily nerf an elementalist ability that allowed us to fill the support role, into the ground. Glyph of Renewal being the first, which was hardly an overpowered ability at all, is now completly worthless, and theyve done the same with Evasive Arcana. I like filling the support role, and I like the general design of the Elementalist, but at this rate im going to be forced to play another profession because they do damage/survival alot better than the Ele, and the Ele will no longer be able to support.
I feel like there are more important matters for them to be addressing than apparent “bugs” with Elementalist abilities that are nowhere near overpowered or gamebreaking.
A class should in no way rely on another class for it to be effective. Being able to do EA blast finishers in a row without changing attunement could be percieved as over the top (it really wasnt at all) but removing them completly is simply ridiculous.
I mean churning earth is itself a blast finisher, they could have atleast left that in there. But not, over the top nerf to a not overpowered ability used by a not even close to overpowered profession. I noticed that there were hardly any nerfs to thief damage potential, so im not really sure wtf anet is even doing, besides apparently massive amounts of hard drugs.
The ability was nerfed to only affect downed players, not dead players. If it has been changed back to its original, I havent seen it.
I also think the radius on it is kinda small, but I cant confirm that as its been far too long since ive used it.
Its my understanding that Elementalists are one of the classes that has the fewest trait speccing options in the game. So why would they go ahead and remove another one from out arsenal?
I play a support Ele, and I loved it. I could throw out some solid healing with evasive arcana blast finishers, or give some really nice might stacks to my allies. Removing the blast finishers is just stupid, they oughta just make it work as intended for cryin out loud. How the hell can I really play a support Ele now? Our healing is pretty pathetic even when geared for it, and we cant exactly stack might all that high without evasive arcana blast finishers.
This is seriously depressing news. =\
Thanks for the input guys.
I generally tend to shy away from mix and match gear setups. I much prefer being focused in one area opposed to being able to “sorta” help out in all areas. I want to play as support/healing to maximize my WvW teammates abilities since I feel an elementalist is the only class almost built for that role. Helping my team with might stacks, regen or even stealth fields and retaliation fields at the right times can be game changing, and I feel they it is more beneficial than simply stacking power/condition damage and being another DPS.
I like the look of the Dwayna runes, but I just get disheartened when I see such a low % chance for the boon to pop. It seems like it might be a better option than water though, and fairly cheap on the TP, which is a plus.
In terms of cantrips, I only roll with Mist Form on my bar. I prefer Arcane Shielding to Armor of Earth personally, even though im sure it is inferior in WvW sieges. With that in mind, traiting for cantrips just seems like a waste, whereas Aquamancer’s Alacrity directly increases my ability to support my team with healing and snares.
I do know that toughness is a superior stat to vitality in terms of survival, so no matter what gear decision I go with ill be looking for something with toughness on it.
If anyone has anymore input please feel free to contribute. Im looking to get a set of crafted gear, so thats going to have me farming for abit longer.
So as it says, I hit 80 earlier this week and im looking for some advice on my current build and gear choices.
I was looking to be a support/healing ele for WvW, with some extra survival on the side so I can stay in the mix alittle longer than normal. My current build is as follows:
Fire – 0
Air – 0
Earth – 20 (Obsidian Focus, Earths Embrace)
Water – 30 (Aquamancers Alacrity, Cleansing Water, Cleansing Wave)
Arcana – 20 (Elemental Attunment, Blasting Staff)
Gearwise, im sitting in full Clerics(Power/Healing Power/Toughness) Mastercrafted gear that I bought off the TP once I hit 80.
Im looking to get an exotic set of armor now, and im curious about whether people think Clerics gear is worth it. I find it useful in terms of survival, while also allowing me to put out some damage during sieges. Any ideas for gear setups would be appreciated, but also looking for what Runes would be best. Im thinking Water might be a good choice.
Im also wondering if my build is the most ideal for this type of gameplay. I think Evasive Arcana would be a really nice addition to my build, but I dont want to sacrifice survival by taking points out of earth or the loss of condition removal by losing 10 points in water. Is getting extra blast finishers via Evasive Arcana for higher might stacking/more area healing, or just stick with what ive got?
Lastly, does healing power count towards the healing I do to others? For instance, does healing power increase the amount of healing I do to others with Geyser?
Thanks in advance.
Im giving this build a try in spvp just to change it up from staff, but im finding it impossible to manage to pull off the things youre doing in your video in terms of survival. I literally just melt when I get more than 1 person in me, and the healing skills in water attunement arent really putting out a whole lot of healing.
My damage isnt terrible, but it too isnt near where you are in your videos. I have all my abiliies keybound, and was a binder in WoW so its not new to me. I can kill off any of the NPC professions in the heart of the mists with ease, but im just not seeing that translate into spvp at all.
Im doing air>earth>fire>water rotations typically.
Do you have autotargetting activated when you play? It doesnt seem like it since you use Ride the Lightning and Burning Speed as escape abilities, so thats what im trying at the moment. I suppose that could be an issue, but since very few of our abilities actually require a target I doubt it.
What sort of gear setup are you using in spvp? I imagine you use the same sigils for the daggers, but what about the amulet/jewel? Currently im using a soldiers amulet with a clerics jewel, and trying out the dolyak rune.
