Ping only in Guild Wars 2, Why?

Classic Perception.2507

This question is slighty biased and already very mad at arena net but i’ll give it a go hoping for insightful answer.

Coming from someone who knows very little about connections/IPs/routes…ect i apply logic instead:

How come when i play starcraft 2, overwatch, COD, hell even when i played gw1 i had perfect FPS and Ping, but SPECIFICALLY, when i play guild wars 2, i get average 250 ping sometimes up to 400 average?

Now once again i’m not an expert, but either 1. arena net doesn’t know how to make servers or 2. i’m a very unfortunate player living in Paris and the connection takes a weird route to their server (in germany i think for EU?) maybe which brings me back to point number 1.

More importantly, if it is coming from me how do i fix this?

I already tried WTFast, anet is not gonna learn how to make servers over the night, and i can’t tell my internet provider “Everything works great except for GW2, fix this pls…”.

About the shoutcasters, i’m not sure why “allowed shoutcasters” was brought up or is even a notion. I feel like players like helseth or sind (in EU, idk in NA) would be more than happy to shoutcast on their channel when they feel like it.

Can someone please clarify why we need designated shoutcasters? If it’s about in game content twitch exploitation i’m really confused about the difference between shoutcasting and what streamers are already doing (From an intellectual property point of view).

The problem with having designated anet shoutcasters for pvp tournament is we go back to the “jebro commentating”. Let me just say straight away I have nothing against jebro, he is a great guy. But having someone who knows what is going on (apart from people dying…) is so valuable in terms of viewing quality.

Just an off-season reminder to Anet:

Tournament of Groucharoo (along with the last ToL) was probably the best gw2 pvp event that ever happened because of the format and shoutcasters who actually commented the game (Felt like the first commentated tournament to me).

Views were insanely good for gw2 (2.5k) and pvp community actually hyped again.

From that event, one thing was repeated over and over by the community: We want automated tournaments (not ESL or big cash rewards…just tournaments).

I don’t feel like it’s hard to implemant (i.e: One automated tournament at the end of every league season for example, which would counter the fact that gw2 pvp completly dies after each season). Someone even suggested to associate automated tournaments with a betting system for the viewers like in gw1

S5 was way better than the old system ever was: Good.

But a large portion of the pvp community wants to be able to practice with a team and compete against other teams. They want collective challenges other than pve dungeons or raids…It renews/refreshes the player base and it encourages twitch activity/shoutcasting.

PS: Pointless post since i’m guessing this has been requested before (probably as much as spectator mode…) but i had a minute to waste.

Yep, vault was butchered. I absolutely hate how it looks and feels.

I’m quite pleased with the changes to endurance. We have more than enough dodges for combat or mobility. A more efficient condi cleanse though…i’ll take it. I see a lot of benefits (i.e druid taunt is almost garanteed to be removed even if covered)

Basilike venom & other stuns bug

Classic Perception.2507

Since the patch, when I stun a target via basilik venom, the body of that target keeps on walking forward before rubberbanding to it’s original stun location.

I thought this was ping issue from my part (even though i’ve never had this issue) before i saw it happening on the ESL world final qualifiers stream. So i’m guessing it’s coming from the game and not me.

This might be happening to other type of stuns (if people could confirm).

Fix this pls, it kittens up all my basi bursts.

Improving ESL casting

in PvP

Posted by: Classic Perception.2507

Classic Perception.2507

I was watching replays for world finals and a couple of things occured to me.

We all know gw 2 isn’t a very Esport game in the same way it’s not a very popular pvp game.

Obvious reasons: 5v5 is hard to comment (can’t watch everything all the time) and the visual noise since HoT is out of control so viewers can barely see what is going on. I don’t think Anet will reduce visual noise (even more than they already did) because pve players (the majority) want their fireworks.

What i noticed: The casting is a problem:

It’s basically two casters commentating caps/decaps and life bars (i.e “A is getting low but it looks like he will be fine since B wasn’t able to finish the job”). They are commentating the obivous, what everyone can see.

Now if we look at other esports (for example starcraft 2): You have 2 casters and they generally divide the casting in 2: One comments the global action, One comments the more technical plays.

This is exactly what gw2 ESL casting is missing. We currently have 2 casters commentating life bars when we should have:

- One commentating the global game (caps/decaps/life bars/big bursts/big heals/cap management/…etc.) and

- One commentating the technical aspect of the game (what is being interupted and how/ jukes/ skilled condi transfers/skilled cleanses or any kind of specific description of how someone died, killed someone or survived).

Since this might be hard work for casters who, even if they are good at “entertainment talk”, do not have an in depth knowledge of the game maybe they could split between 2 casters and one observer (an ESL player/former ESL player).

I feel improvement on this matter would encourage people to watch ESL games more since, with good casting and obs, they could actually learn things and be more hyped for the skill level involved (we all know the skill level is there, but we don’t see it even less hear about it).

Separating Solo Q and Group Q

in PvP

Posted by: Classic Perception.2507

Classic Perception.2507

It’s a complicated subject. Tbh, getting legend s1, s2 and s3, premades were not a problem because it doesn’t happen often and when it does they don’t auto win.

The problem is how you implemant that? If you separate the queues you will still have the unfair sitution where a duo q is matched with a 5 man premade. So do you also separate duo, trio q from 5 man premade? If they don’t, people will be whining about the same things. If they do, can you imagine the queue time (i.e. trio queue waiting for another trio queue in their mmr)?

Bottom line, it might seem unfair but it really isn’t a major problem.

MMR or the contrary of a fun game

in PvP

Posted by: Classic Perception.2507

Classic Perception.2507

Gw2’s actual MMR is basically this: The more you lose the crappier your teamates will be, the more you win the better your teamates will be. We’re not talking about enemies, we’re talking about teamates.

This basic idea is, to me, the reason why leagues are frustrating and not fun.

I got legend S1 and S2, didn’t want to grind for S3 so only played for the ascension achievements.

_With this in mind, i played more casual and might or might not have played under the influence of bob marley or nicholas cage in leaving las vegas. Needless to say my win ratio kinda went down lol. _

Here comes the stupid part. I wake up the next day, log on, look at my pips and laugh thinking to myself i did kitten but actually had a good time.

All good fun… bad part? I get the worse players in gw 2 for 1 month. Only solution to get out of this is to “carry”/ tryhard like there is no tomorrow. If you’re an ESL player, carrying is natural…but to simple mortal good players, carrying 4 players is actually unfun, frustrating and stressful.

Divisions should be divisions. Ruby with ruby, diamond with diamond. Please stop taking into account this MMR formula (or change it!) which is obviously ruining the fun for everyone (even ESL players, which get good teamates and are bored).

I mean, objectively, i get eles pushing lord at beginning of the game, people 2 capping, not stomping nor cleaving, rotations are out of the question (1 ele and 1 engi on a node? np let’s just 4v2 them for half the game), defending close doesn’t exist…etc. This is mid diamond, 3 tiers away from legend….it’s just wrong.

I would actually be interested in knowing if you actually take into consideration the amount of rezes, kills, decaps/caps, interupts a player makes…Etc…

1. MMR hell does exist
2. You can get out of MMR hell by being really serious about winning (also being intelligent with you teamcomp swapping)
3. Most important, MMR punishes you for days/week for not being serious about your gameplay during one or two evenings.

Conclusion: Most people reading this will probably say “It’s your fault, you didn’t play seriously now your stuck with non serious players”. But to me, gw2 is a game and shouldn’t have any punishing aspects like this. There is a difference between fun/competitive and being sanctionned.

PS: This post only speaks to soloq ofc.

Anet: Please anticipate pvp death

in PvP

Classic Perception.2507

Facts:

1. My friendlist got decimated over the past month and I know a lot of people are in the same situation. People are not only saying they’re going to quit, they’re actually doing it.

2. I’m in diamond right now, queues are taking forever. I personnaly think the matchmaking is a lot better than s1 and s2 so i’m guessing a lot less players are actually playing. I don’t recall getting these kind of queues in diamond in s1/s2.

3. Take a look at the twitch activity. RIP pvp streamers.

The cause: Off season, nothing new to s3 compared to s1 and s2 (how many times can one grind to legendary before getting bored), other pvp games coming out..Etc.

Point of the post: Just a heads up. You probably want to anticipate this before it really becomes a problem and put some incentive in the pvp aspect of the game. Rewards, more pvp formats…Etc. All the ideas have already been repeated over and over again, i’m sure you’re aware of all this.

Warrior is not OP

in PvP

Posted by: Classic Perception.2507

Classic Perception.2507

Truth statements:

1. Warrior is not op
2. The whole game right now hasn’t been that well balanced in a long time
3. The only class suffering from imbalance might be dragonhunters (it’s fine in leagues, but can’t really manage in ESL).

About warriors: The debate and the rage shouldn’t be about warriors being op but how stupid its mechanisms are. A lot of players are raging at it because:

-Passive endure pain at 50%
-Passive good regen
-Passive conditions (a lot of conditions) on 1 or more interupts /very easily apply condition stacks (i.e. burning stacks)

RIP warriors being a beautiful class.

What about Ranked do you enjoy more than Unranked during off-season?

Is it that you prefer climbing a ladder all the time? Or are there other particular reasons.

Off season is killing pvp

in PvP

Classic Perception.2507

This is the 4th post i see about that.

IMO OP is completly right and most pvpers think the same way (check out zoose post).

Enough has been said…let’s just put it that way: Without competitiveness there is no pvp therefore Anet is shutting pvp down for one month every 2 month…

Could you imagine pve or wvw shutdown that regularly? Could you imagine pve or wvw being shut down at all?The answer is no.

Now that all this has been said the only thing to do is wait and see the outcome:

1. Either Anet doesn’t change anything about the system: Then we can for sure say that Anet for (1) doesn’t care about pvp and for (2) doesn’t take into consideration the complaints made between both S1-S2 and S2-S3 (basically doesn’t listen to the players).

2. Or, Anet gives pvpers something to go on between each season and then we can say that Anet actually cares about pvp but more importantly LISTENS to the player.

In either case, these posts are beneficial.

Sigils proc triggering basi

So when playing d/p with fire and air sigil, and one of these sigils procs, the second stack of basi procs.

This has been going on for a long time and it’s rly annoying because it adds a random factor to basi.

My question to devs is: Is this wanted or not? If not, can we fix it?

Thx.

Evan,

I feel it’s a shame you would delete an entire set of ideas just because of one word. So edited version.

Rather than asking yourself why people prefer ranked to unranked you should be asking yourself: What can we do during off-season in order to keep the players interested and not massively leaving the game?

Simple fix: Only freeze the ladder/pips/legendary achievement but keep everything else (aka ranked queues/matchmaking)

Harder fix: From what i hear many people like 2v2 format (and ESL has 5v5 format AND 2v2 format). So when 5v5 ranked season ends, instead of making an off-season and shutting everything down, make a 2v2 ranked season begin. This, in addition to pvp diversity, could also be an opportunity for different rewards. This, obviously, takes a little bit of work from Anet and i’m not sure you guys are willing to put the effort in. Just remember that GW1 had HoH, GvG, RA, TA and even codex towads the end…that’s 5 different pvp formats!

PS 1: Also you have to consider that the problem with nothing happening during off-season is not only players massively leaving, it’s also an entire month where you can’t clearly see the meta (even though most people would have an idea…) and therefore can’t fix broken builds before a new season.

PS 2: Is 2v2 ESL streamed? I don’t see anything… and if not why? Again i think many players would be interested in watching that and it would promote that format.
