Can Mesmers be reliable heal/support?

What kind of healing do you think Guardians are bringing?

Altruistic healing only heals the guardian. Empower is 1500 + 80%(?) of Healing power, Restorative Mantras is 2600 + 20% of healing power. Mantra of pain has a shorter cooldown.

I guess theres the might stacks from Empower, but its 600 yard range. You are unlikely to hit more than two people with it.

Are you serious? Just look at this list:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing
This is not even considering traits that give more healing for Guardians.

Guardians can put out way more healing than restorative mantras, and they don’t have to sit there spamming Mantra of Pain channel and doing nothing else.

But did you look at the values and uptime of those heals? They either have an incredibly small value, or a very long cooldown.

Symbol of Faith, Ray of Judgement, Hold the Line: Regeneration, not unique.
Orb of Light: 980, 15 second CD
Empower: 1500 after 3.5 seconds, 20 second CD
Faithful Strike: 463, 3rd auto-attack for mace
Merciful Intervention: 2152, 80 second CD
Sanctuary: 2660, 120 second CD

Not sure about Tome of Courage. I’ve never seen anyone use it, and i haven’t used it. Renewed Focus seems to be the definitive guardian elite.

Uber guardian self healing is self only. Altruistic healing is actually quite selfish.

Orb of Light is 12 seconds, not 15. Also, so what if regeneration is not unique? It’s still amazing, and Guardians can keep it on their group with basically 100% uptime. Only regen Mesmers can provide their group is Phantasmal Regeneration, with it’s horrible 10second startup time and miniscule 240 AoE range.

Yes, Altruistic Healing is selfish. That’s why it’s in the Valor line. Did you even look at Honor, the support line for Guardians? It has loads of party healing, and it blows Inspiration out of the water. Seriously, it’s so much better it’s ridiculous.

Not really related to Mesmer vs Guardian healing. But if you’re going to build a regen mesmer why don’t you use Phantasmal Duelist whose regen kick in at 3 second and have 100% up time and can be pretty much position anywhere you like?

Also I don’t know why a lot of people seem to forget about Phantasmal Defender when discussing about support mesmer. Making allies take 50% less damage and increase their AoE healing should be count as support right?

Offhand pistol isn’t very good in a support build, even if Phantasmal Duelist is bugged to kick in regen faster.

A better way of looking at Phantasmal Defender is that it can absorb up to 5300 damage total for allies in the area. This seems OK, but then you consider that 1) it also absorbs damage from other illusions, which is a complete waste and 2) any damage it takes won’t be absorbed from allies, and since it’s going to be in melee range of enemies, it’s probably going to take a lot of damage that it won’t be absorbing.

How does Phantasmal Defender increase allied healing?

More target to heal = more heal.
If you’re healing for 100 per target.
With Defender you’re now healing for 100×2. (Which also mean the defender can take even more damage than the initial 5300 hp)
That is unless all 5 party member are hurt and in need of healing which is very unlikely.

I hope it’s the other way around. That duelist is the only Phantasmal that not bugged, since Duelist also the only one the have multiple phantasmal buff working at the same time (Phantasmal Fury, Phantasmal Healing and Vengeful Image break each other effect on others phantasmal) at the same tame.

What's killing the game, and possible solutions

I’m not sure what would be accomplish by removing way point cost.
It is not like you ever ran out of money in this game. Also taking out gold sinks won’t make your character any richer.

Boss Fights, No healing class, is there any point to this?

The way I see it is that ANet want something similar to the system in Monster Hunter, where mostly everyone taking care of their own health while still working together to bring down the boss.
Players are suppose to avoid/prevent damage in the first place.
The reason healing skills aren’t effective is because there to help lessen the punishment from failing to prevent/dodge and not the main function of the battle.
This is probably also the decision behind the reason why there is “no healer” in game.

The system does not really work though because of low death penalty (including way point in dungeon). So people just does not really care about their health. Taking off way point or have a dungeon lost condition upon total death might force player to be more cautious.

I knew it seem counter intuitive, but if you pay attention to sniper’s ability it’s clearly said “More damage to moving target”. So if he target you, stop moving and stay still, using any defensive ability you get and you should survive.

Tower Down bugged

I was bugged in this quest as well but my friend found a way to work around it in this forum.

For anyone who just want to progress their quest without waiting for the fix, here is the method that work for me.

When you’re in the cave do not follow the NPC but split off and go clear Tower 3 first. (Tonn should be coming with you). After the tower 3 area and the beach is totally clear then head back to the cave and follow the rest of the quest normally.

Hope this method work out for you guys too.

Arenanet please consider this.

It’s good that you consider spvp in your idea. But you totally forgot about WvWvW.

Also I believe ANet wants the whole game to be skill base not just PvP. Which is why they avoid the idea of gear thread mill is a bad idea. Sure it give people something to do but it also turn the game into “you’re better if you play for longer”. Instead of emphasizing on actual players teamwork and individual skill.

Is it just me or does this game involve no strategy other than running back to the boss everytime you die?

Actually SE Storymode Kudu is one of the boss that you can fight strategically.
His golem (and even Kudu himself) are really susceptible to projectile reflection. So set your skill accordingly (with condition healing) and they are not so hard.

Just because corpse rushing is viable does not mean it is the only strategy. People just does not bother finding other way.

DPS Counter

The problem party DPS counter is that it doesn’t goes well with GW2 gameplay.
In dungeon it is not all about DPSing down the monster as fast as possible.

What if someone put on supporting skill and trait to help lessen the party burden like setting up a combo field or party healing?
What if they stop attacking and help get the down friend up?

I think in this game people need to get out of the normal MMO mentality of “I’m DD, DPS and number is the only thing that matter to me”.

No motivation to do dungeons.

Unique skins are enough for some people, and the same group of people are also more likely to spend their money on gem for cosmetic items.

Just like Guild Wars business model, this game does not need a large number of people to stick around. Only the one that matter (willingly to spend their money).

Guardian isn’t really vital in the fight.
Mesmer can also reflect projectile and so do Elementalist.
Warrior have trait that allow block to reflect projectile.
Other classes have a way to deal with the encounter too, like Necromancer can transfer allies condition to themselves and eat those conditions for heal.
Also I can’t say this for sure but I think you can probably use the map environment to block his fireball.

It’s just a matter of adapting your weapons/utility skill for the battle once you learn what your opponent do.

ANet said they were removing the grind, and you want them to put it right back in.

Wait, they removed what? 400 tokens for a piece of gear isn’t grind?

People need to re-phase that to “Does not require a grind”.
400 tokens equipments are entirely optional and does not offer any gameplay benefit.

Also I think the reward is fine that way it is. They do need to make the dungeon more fun and engaging though so people actually want to do dungeon for the experience of running the dungeon itself instead of grinding it for rewards.

Like the others mention reflect projectile skills help a lots in this fight.

A Mesmer with Inspiration trait “Warden’s Feedback” with utility skill feedback bubble should be able to consistently reflect anything he threw at you.
As long as everyone avoid the flamethrower spin attack, the party should be fine.
