Me and two friends did all of the personal stories since the racial sympathy quests together, taking turns in entering the story and everybody chosing to progress to the next step. When we did the chapter “A Light in the Darkness”, we talked about what we wanted to chose for the greatest fear and the one of us who had entered at that point chose “Letting an innocent die”. The other two progressed to the next chapter with him. However, today we completed the chapter “Forging the Pact”, but now only two of us have “Tower Down” as the next chapter, while one has “Striking Off the Chains” – which means we can’t do the personal story together for the next 5 chapters.
I have played guardian, elementalist and thief to 40, 60 and 80 respectively, and with all three underwater combat is much, much harder than land combat:
1. often you can’t see how far away mobs are, which results in you pulling much more than you wanted to;
2. Often, the camera zoomes in too much and you can’t see anything else but your character, resulting in either kiting not working or you suddenly breaking the surface of the water and losing all your abilities;
3. Mobs seem to be more tightly packed underwater than on land, meaning that if you are kiting one soon you’ll have three or more following you (this is closely related to #1);
4. The bug of mobs becoming invulnerable and resetting happens a lot more underwater;
and 5. This is definitely the worst. All of the above things wouldn’t be so bad if you actually did as much or more damage on land than underwater, but underwater damage ist soooo low! For instance, on my elementalist it takes me as long to do an underwater normal mob as it takes me to do a veteran on land! I am currently carrying a yellow trident and a really good breather I bought a level ago; the trident does around 100 damage more than my two daggers; still, my #1 fire skill on land does 3x 115 dmg while my #1 fire skill under water only does 73 dmg (and this only when it hits, which it often doesn’t because of kiting).
I’d like to love underwater combat; I really do. But how can I when it is so much harder than land combat?
+1 to this completely.
Happens to me all the time, especially when underwater and with veterans -.- I actually opened a thread about this a while back, but got no official reply.
Umm I seem to be too stupid to chose a reply that best answers my question. How do I do that?!
Anyway, thanks everybody, I guess I am going to put my beloved staff away and invest more points in water/earth (although I absolutely hate the traits there).
Edit: lol NOW the button to chose an answer appeared. Oh well.
Um… anyone? Hello? Is this normal or not?
Is this going to be addressed? Please? It’s really buggy!
I don’t know whether this is a bug or not, but I didn’t find anything on the forums. I know there were major complains about the monthly experience without death, so maybe they are reworking it? If not, does anyone else have this?
I thought for some time that this had stopped, but it happens now more than ever. I hope this is going to get fixed soon.
Ok, so I am level 44 on my ele and am dying like hell. I play staff and have so far all my points in Fire and Air. I know that makes me a huge glass cannon, but I change attunements all the time, keep all my defensive and cc skills on cd, dodge, circle strafe and so on.
However, I still die. A lot. Usually because of one of these things – either the mob I am attacking is ranged or can stun/cripple/immobilize me – but that isn’t the main problem; or, and this is the reason of 95% of my deaths, because of dodging or kiting and pulling other mobs who I can’t all cc, and some of them getting to me.
I thought that you were either supposed to go into earth/water and don’t have to kite as much, but do less damage, or go into fire/air and do more damage, but also have to kite more, and I like kiting, so I chose to be a glass cannon – however, how are you supposed to play that way when mobs are so close together and even a single one a) hits like a bulldozer and b) takes sooo long to down?
I have a thief on 80 and I know it only gets harder, so how on earth am I supposed to do that?
I have had this happen again and again – I am fighting a mob with a larger health pool, everything is going fine, until suddenly the mob turns invulnerable, regenerates to full health and then attacks me again (and I usually die). I know this can happen when you pull a mob too far, but these were all cases where I stayed nearly on the same spot. It is incredibly frustrating.
Two weeks ago I went to the mists and did the jumping puzzle in the red area. Now I went there again to open the vault again, but I noticed the key parts had disappeared from my bags! I hope this isn’t intented because I majorly suck at jumping puzzles and needed like three hours the last time I did the jumping puzzle.
Funnily enough, when you press Underground it actually stops showing you the cave you’re in. (You can only attach one sc per post…)
I think this is actually a bug. I mean, there are buttons on the world map for Upper Level, Surface and Underground, but pressing Underground doesn’t show anything (except making the map slightly grey). When you are in a cave, only a small part of it is shown on the map OR minimap, and as soon as you leave it is covered up again, which isn’t helpful at all – why have a Underground option when it doesn’t change anything?
I am pretty sure that this was different in the earlier Beta weekends, but maybe that’s just my imagination.
In Bloodtide Coast there are “Risen Krait Nimross (?)” (not elite or anything) who have the skill “Summon Minions/Allies” (not sure which). These mobs are unkillable alone, since they summon 5-10 Allies in quick succession and those don’t die when you kill the Nimross. I have died two times in a row because I was foolish enough to pull one of them, thinking “oh it’s only one mob”.
Screenshot attached of me being mauled by 7 Risen Thralls with the Risen Krait Nimross already dead.
Oh, I never would have thought of that! Well thanks for the workaround, still should be fixed though
I am doing the personal story chapter “The Battle of Claw Island”, but I am stuck at the point where you are supposed to shoot the Orrian Warship with the Trebuchet. The Trebuchet doesn’t fire, no matter where I turn it, always just displaying the error message “You cannot fire the weapon in that direction”. I already submitted a bug report for this, because I thought I caused this by leaving the trebuchet to fight off some mobs that were attacking me (it had worked fine before). But I just did the thing again and it still only showed the error message (although I never left the trebuchet). I cannot complete the step without the trebuchet.
I can understand the no zoning out or using Way Points for it to reset…as you’re trying to Survive the world/Area you’re in…but the logging out must be a bug. It is exactly as Cluisanna said, it must go against ANets philosophy. Because there’s nothing wrong with low level character wanting to achieve it through out their adventure…over the course of 10,20,30 levels. I know it would make me feel like i’ve really survived everything that was dished out at me.
That doesn’t really make sense – after all, you can’t stay for 30 levels in one zone, so you’d have to change the zone.
I have this too, all the time. It’s much louder than all the other sounds in the game and really hurting my ears – just random sounds like a metallic “clunk” or a bubbly sound, things like that, with a weird echo, extremely random but at least every 10 minutes or so. Also, the worst part is that this sound can be heard even when gw2 is minimized, so I have more than once been startled horribly because I was doing something else with gw2 in the background and suddenly this loud sound was played.
There is also a problem with the walking sounds of ranger pets (of other people just passing by) sometimes bugging out and being extremely loud. Usually this resets after the pet has left the hear distance, but it is also extremely unnerving and painful. The sounds always seem to be the same volume no matter how high the master volume is.
None of my friends have this problem, but I talked to some people in map chat some days ago who complained about the same thing.
And no, this is nothing like the problems described in the other thread, it’s just a sudden, loud, echoing sound while the rest of the game music still plays. (Although I do have the problem that game sounds just aren’t there at all, but I doubt this is connected.)
Maaaan seriously? This is like – exactly the opposite of arenanets philosophy, isn’t it? Forcing players to mindlessly grind in the same zone for hours at a time, building up more and more frustration? Come one, that can’t be how this is intended to work?!
My pc just crashed as I was around 60k ep… not for the first time. I didn’t even dieeee
I spent the last eight hours trying to get this (dying several times because foolish me thought she should help people…) Now I have to start over?
(edited by Cluisanna.1360)
So it has to be done all on the same character and in the same zone? Ugh -.-
I think this thing is incredibly bugged… but also, it always shows the highest amount of xp you have had for this achievement, e.g. you accumulated 40,000 xp until you died, then you have to accumulate 40,000 xp and then it will start to count again – which is kind of irritating.
I have this problem too.
I just found a screencap my friend took while doing that event with the mass of angry earth elementals.
Yes, I am trying to bump this a little, why do you ask?
I had another instance just now when doing the event “Protect Scholar Dane while she closes the portal” in Kolkorensburg. It’s a level 41 event and I’m 51, scaled down to 43. You are supposed to protect said scholar from imps coming from a portal, but they respawn sooo fast. I was alone there and the scholar got killed almost instantly. I killed all the imps around her, but I couldn’t even rez her because the imps respawned so fast. Of course I got killed, which is not only always painful because I already have to pay around 70c every death just to resurrect (who came up with that?!), not to mention repair fees, but also because I almost had the monthly experience without death done and now have to start all over again (for the 3rd time or so)
Again, if it had said [group event] I would have stayed away, but I did the event before that without problems with the mobs, so I thought I’d help the poor skritt.
Again, this is just an example of a problem that is constantly there. I love this game, but it really is soo frustrating because it feels like I can’t win – this isn’t about the mobs being too hard or anything, just that even the best fighter can’t win when all his enemies get up again after 20 seconds.
Edit: I tried it again and spend around five minutes killing imps, resurrecting the scholar, killing imps, resurrecting the scholar until I died. I understand it’s a portal event and there are supposed to be new monsters coming from the portal, but seriously, 3-5 new imps 5 seconds after the last group died? (Not hyperbole.) That’s impossible alone.
Another example: At Travelen’s Steading in Dredgehaunt Cliffs there are two sons of svanir standing in front of the lodge. They, too, respawn within 10-20 seconds with no one around but me.
This goes on and on… at lake Falooaloo there are sons of svanir and their dragon totems, which you are supposed to destroy. There were around 4 sos standing around one of the totems, and I pulled them one after the other and killed them. I didn’t have time to destroy the totem, however, since the first started to respawn soon after I began hitting the totem.

I had this in almost every area, and I was always there with characters that were at or above the required level. The worst area so far was the charr starting area (Fields of Ashford I believe?), where I was with a friend of mine (she as an Elementalist and I as a Mesmer). We were constantly steamrolled by hordes of angry ghosts and elementals. For instance there is an event where you are supposed to collect stones from earth elementals for charr catapults (?). I got around 40 of those stones in something like five minutes without moving from my place until we finally died because there were just sooo many elementals. We tried to bring the stones to the charr who wanted them but we couldn’t cross the field with the elementals without being killed by them (and we were both scaled down and there was only one or two other people around).
Another example (I think this was in the same area): We found a small cave with a rich copper vein protected by a veteran troll and some normal trolls. Okay, no problem, you do something and you get a reward – except this troll respawned so quickly that I didn’t even have time to rez my friend, and when I managed to kill him (and his friends who had already respawned, too) again, he stayed barely down long enough so that I could mine the ore.
These are just two recent examples, but it happens again and again – if you think it helps, I can try to keep track.
I am getting increasingly frustrated by absurd respawn rates that make lots of events undoable alone or with only two people (and those are not [group event]s, mind you). I’m pretty sure the game was supposed to be playable alone (except for dungeons and group events of course), but often the mobs respawn after 30 seconds or less, making clearing a cave or something alone impossible – especially for classes that need a little more room to avoid being hit: how are you supposed to do that when you can’t move a metre without pulling the people you just killed a minute ago?
I understand that the respawn rates need to be high when a lot of people are there, but why does that have to be when I’m the only one there? If the respawn rate can be increased to accomodate a lot of people in the area, why can’t it be decreased?
I’m there too, and nothing happens… I searched everywhere and there were no hatchlings? I also killed some of the drakes (while getting mauled by several veteran grubs – what’s the point of that?), but nothing happened.
