VR Support for GW2

Id doubt they will support it for GW2 it would probably take a big rework to make all parts of the game work with it, maybe GW3 who knows, it depends if all that work they need to put in will be used by a wide playerbase, or a few hundred,

I know a few friends who have tried the VR and it made them feel sick.

I have used the CV1 with the games designed for it (EVE: Valkyrie, Project Cars, The Climb) as well as using virtual desktop with games like FIFA and I’m happy to report no sickness what so ever. It’s insanely fun even if the games coming out right now are mostly quite simple and reflective of its first generation hardware platform. I can’t speak towards the Vive or anyone else’s motion sickness but for me it’s been working great.

That’s actually the video I was referring to in my op. In the video description he mentions a lengthy setup time for it. Also VR does not implicitly mean 1st person, many VR titles are 3rd person. I agree with you that because it’s not natively supported there’s a limit on what they could do, but it would be cool if they came out with a list of recommended settings changes if you wanted to give it a try. Given the small user base though, I’m sure they have bigger fish to fry.

I did try to get it working on virtual desktop and if I start the game in windowed mode and then open virtual desktop I can get it working but at a fairly large loss in quality. I also tried fullscreen but the game just became a black screen with the mouse cursor on it.

Good Morning!

I was wondering if ArenaNet has any plans to support VR for GW2 in any form at all. I understand that not only is the customer base for that sort of development small, but the game was not originally designed with VR in mind. That being said I’ve seen some pretty cool videos out there for people who have modded the game to be compatible with the Rift CV1 and gotten some astounding results.

I got my Rift this week and I’ll be checking out some of the possibilities over the coming weeks, but I thought I’d ask whether even a small amount of support for VR would be something in the development pipeline (even if it were just recommended settings). I know there’s only so many resources you have for development and a litany of needs to address so I wouldn’t be surprised if the answer’s no, but hope springs eternal that one day I’ll stare at the gilded surfaces of my guild hall as if I were actually there!

ArenaNet at PAX East 2014?

ArenaNet did not have any booth space at PAX Prime last year, and I wouldn’t expect them to in the future unless they announce an expansion or side project. They do, however, run panels and off-site parties every year.

Actually thanks for making the distinction, I said booth but really I meant any presence at or around PAX East. A panel to talk about and show development of the game similar to what is seen by other MMOs would be awesome.

Events like this is for companies to hype up new games. So I’m guessing NCSOFT will be showcasing WildStar where getting players to buy is uber important. GW2 had it’s day at the con.

Hate to say it but it’s easier for ANet to showcase at PAX in Seattle. No airfair, hotels, etc. than wait on NCSOFT to include an “old” game like GW2 in their dog and pony show.

I’m expecting bunny eared booth babes as far as you can see.

Have you ever been to PAX East because there are plenty of “old” games on display there? Lord of the Rings Online has had a large section every year I’ve been (4), in fact just about every MMO has a booth with some type of representation because those games are always trying to sell themselves. As far as where they showcase, there are a lot of companies that go to both, and for a game distributed worldwide from a company that has a market cap of nearly $5 billion I don’t think it’s a stretch to fly out 4 employees for a weekend.

As for the booth babes, well there are some but not really a ton at PAX East and that’s fine by me. I don’t need to see people being objectified to decide which games I want to play.

I see that NCsoft has a booth at PAX East 2014 but I am guessing that just like last year that booth will not be GW related (In fact I am sad to report the people manning the booth barely seemed to know there was a game called Guild Wars!!). It’s been 3 years since ArenaNet was last at PAX East and to me, that’s 3 years too long!

I’m not trying to complain here, just remind the good folks of ArenaNet that their east coast North American fans would love to see them. In fact it could have been a great venue to show off the plethora of changes coming up next month.

I hope we’ll see you one of these years. In fact, beers on me for any ArenaNet employee who makes it to a future PAX East. (Note all Quaggans must be over 21 years of age)

$12.50 Charge for Convenience of Lions Arch

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Yes this is another complaint thread on the Captain’s Airship Pass.

For those who didn’t read the other thread: A lot of people got upset that the loss of Lions’s Arch represented the loss of the most useful and convenient hub for BLT, Bank, Crafting Stations, Mystic Forge, Skill Trainers and Vendors. It also had Asura gates to all the major cities. In its place we got two things, Vigil’s Keep (which does not have crafting stations, gate travel and far less vendors) and Havoc’s Heir Airship. The airship is a one stop shop for everything BUT costs 1000 gems for a lifetime pass, 1000 gems equals $12.50 in USD.

Those who (rather sycophantically) defended Arenanet made some of the following arguments:

You can just go to other cities:
Yes, but none of the other cities offer the same level of convenience as Lion’s Arch (in terms of number of services offered and proximity of services to each other, not to mention gate travel) , that’s why LA was consistently the most visited location. If you do a lot of crafting, or are trying to make a legendary or use the BLT a lot you absolutely know what I mean. Time is money and you will be losing a lot of time from this loss of convenience.

It’s part of the story/times change/you fear something new:
No. I love what they are doing with the story BUT when you take that convenience away and ask for money for its replacement, it is an OBVIOUS bait and switch.

Cashing in is not Arenanet’s intention:
Really? Then why did the 1,000 gem lifetime pass come with this new content as a “promoted item” in the gem store? To think otherwise is naive.

Look, I love this game and there’s much to praise Arenanet for, but i’m not just going to drink the Kool Aid either. Removing LA’s conveniences and charging $12.50 to get it back is wrong. It’s something I expect from Electronic Arts, not from Arenanet who by and large are the good guys.

Will I stop playing? Of course not! This represents an annoyance and a fairly pricey one at that but overall the game is still fantastic. I just offer this thread as a venue for people to raise their hand politely and say they don’t agree with this move and that they think Arenanet is better than this. Aside from this, the new content is awesome, love that they shook the game up this way, keep up the rest of the good work!

What's driving spike in Sell Volumes?

CrockD.8257

In the patch didn’t they say they were going to fix the “DR bug” (which really wasn’t DR) where you don’t get loot credit from mobs even though you get exp credit?

Would figure that’ll mean more loot dropping across the board, lowering prices. Maybe people are dumping in anticipation of that (I did too several days ago, liquidated just about everything)

Do you know the date they announced this because the market seems to have internalized this news only within the last 2-3 days?

What's driving spike in Sell Volumes?

CrockD.8257

So over the last 72 hours I have seen a huge spike in sell volumes on some key items I watch and I was wondering if anyone might have any insight as to where all this supply came from.

Scales:
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24286

Fangs:
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24354

Claw:
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24348

These aren’t the only items that are seeing this spike but they illustrate an interesting phenomenon. Some of these items are seeing a spike in volumes not seen for 6 weeks, some (like fangs) are seeing the largest spike in volume since the inception of the game.

Thoughts?

CrockD.8257

Look if you stop undercutting you’ll make more money. Thats the point.

People will see somtimes 2 to 3000 of an item and panick and and cut a price from 35 to 36. But think about it, if there are SO MANY of an item then logically its liquid enough so there is no need to undercut.

On a side note: I’ve found that the ‘last’ price poster gets his/her stuff sold first. (I’ve tested this many times). So actually you should just repost your orders instead of undercutting.

You really don’t get markets do you? People are “undercutting” (fancy word for selling at the lowest price) in order to beat their competition (you) so that they can turn their profit and immediately move on to the next profitable market. In the TP game “churn” is important. People who are looking to make money trading in the markets want to see an opportunity and flip it fast so that their money isn’t tied up in an asset for days while they wait for the price to come back. If your money is stuck in an asset you can’t use it for the next big trade. Choosing to not undercut you is in no way a profitable activity for me what so ever. If it bothers you that the markets move fast then you might want to think about not playing them. Finally for all those folks who will give the “why don’t you actually play the game” comment. We all play a game that has an open and functional marketplace, that marketplace is free for actors to participate in however they want. The actions of those individuals helps to make markets more liquid (because they are ‘market makers’) and if you still have a problem with it, it’s the way ArenaNet made the game. It is what it is.
