Why anet won't remove MM/PU/Spirit rangers

It’s simply because Anet wants to appeal to the casual PvE crowd, so in order to make the transition into PvP easier on all those players they think it’s best to have as much AI in PvP as possible. That way the PvE casuals can’t tell the difference and will explore other areas of the game. I love it too because I like to PvP, but also run dungeons. Now when I fight any of those classes, I’ll never have to pick between PvE or PvP because I can do both at the same time!!!! ^^ Thanks for all you have done arenanet ily guys

Why is there still no dueling?

That is my main worry with dueling…is that it is suddenly going to take a ton of developer time that could be used on adding more dungeons / areas / fixing balance issues in WvW and PvE…and more quality of life improvements.

Um… we are currently getting balance patches once every like 6 months. I doubt they will give more resources to a balance team knowing anet.

Regardless, this game isn’t balanced around 1v1 so their will be some overpowered classes however, dueling is a side feature with no rewards or other similar gains.

On top of that, I’m sure the majority of those who would be complaining are the ones not willing to test new builds and other approaches in order to beat some overpowered class. This game has a lot of unexplored diversity in builds and dueling might just open up another way of discovering those.

I don’t see how this helps anyone other than a niche sPvP sub-community… and lets face it… the entire population of PvP is small to begin with.

You are absolutely right that the PvP population is small and nowhere near the size of the PvE crowd, but should that warrant holding out on a feature that could possibly bridge those gaps and ease some of the PvE players into PvP? This is a MMO game and I thought that these games were made to be multiplayer in order to build communities. Now if A-Net didn’t want to continue to build a PvP community, then why not just delete all forms of PvP? I feel like implementing anything that could build solid community, or even strengthen existing ones, should take top priority over any other change (i.e. living world that only promotes zergs and achievement farming).

With an open world dueling system anyone could use it and experience PvP in a casual manner without all the hassle one must go through now. It would be an on the fly system designed for fun, letting new people try PvP and having more experienced players hone their abilities. It would be a great way to build and strengthen our small PvP community which this game desperately needs.

I do not intend it to be a feature for wvw, rather, used for the PvE areas. I cross posted the thread so that you WvW guys could share your opinion on if you would like to see this feature, as it enables you to test your wvw builds against people of the same server/friends/guildies/etc

So of course the system will need a refuse duel requests option in the menu, but what of the players harassing you through chat? What is to stop you from simply blocking that person and you will hear nothing from them again?

Open World Dueling

Cynic.4805

So here’s the thing, you have created a new build for WvW and want to test it out. What do you do? You go out and scout around for people looking for small fights hoping to not get zerged. Or if you are lucky, you find another person alone out in one of the maps, initiate a 1v1 fight and once again hope no one else joins in. You then proceed to do this multiple times to get a feel for how this build performs, and where you could make improvements. ArenaNets tells us that if we want to have a duel currently, in a controlled environment, our only method is to join a custom arena and fight there. The down side to this is that we must use a sPvP build as well as gear.

Now here’s the proposition, wouldn’t it be easier to simply have a WoW style dueling system where you could right click one of your buddies, and start a duel, anywhere in the world? We would be able to use our PvE gear, the same set we use in WvW. This would also provide a controlled environment to test your build as well as improve your own player skill. And would also do it in a timely manner without all the tedious hassle of throwing yourself in WvW before you are ready to.

So for anyone interested in ANet adding an open world dueling system, I encourage you all to head over to https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Why-is-there-STILL-no-dueling/first and voice your opinion. The only way we are going to see this change is if we give continual notice to ANet on what we would like to see added.
Also, if you see that someone has already posted something similar to your thoughts, please, still write down what you would like to see done, so that we can get more recognition. Thanks for your time and happy hunting

I really like how whatever skin you have unlocked, as well as dyes, becomes account-wide. The system itself seems to be rather fluid and easy to use however, it does seem that they will nickel and dime us to death as usual.

“We wanna be free! We wanna be free to do what we wanna do. We wanna be free to duel. We wanna be free to duel wherever we want without being hassled by The Man! … And we wanna get loaded. And we wanna have a good time. And that’s what we are gonna do. We are gonna have a good time… We are gonna have a dueling party.”

Do you guys think this should be a higher priority than other changes? Why?

Also I would like to add that most of the changes coming out currently are in regards to balance. Now, the “art” of balancing a game is dynamic. It’s always changing and we all know there is no “final” patch to balancing a game. Now dueling on the other hand would be a static change. It’s a tried and true method in other games and requires no maintenance. I prefer the method of simply right clicking another player anywhere in the world and having the option to duel within a certain radius (no need to get creative and come up with an alternative). Of course the option to block dueling requests would be necessary(to avoid potential harassment etc) but that is also a static change.

Personally I believe that dueling should have been in from the start, and I know that a lot of my old teammates would still be playing the game to this day if we had dueling since its concept has a strong sense of community around it in other mmos.

You guys are making some really good points, thanks.

Do you guys think this should be a higher priority than other changes? Why?

Yes, it promotes community and some of my best memories from other games are from duels. It’s a great way to make friends, gauge anothers skill as well as improve your own, and also pass time while enjoying the game.

tedious, less convenient, and you still must “invade” someones custom room if you do not have your own risking the chance for unwelcomed guests to join in. Also I would much rather be beating my friends into the ground in the ever so scenic open world in various locations which would also mean dueling in pve gear. Simplest answer is that it makes it easier on us and potentially promotes more competitive gameplay as I’m sure dueling would occur much more frequently than our… current method

UPDATE: Allow me to reiterate why I would love to see dueling in the game, as well as go over a few concerns people seem to have about the system. I will also update this list if more issues arise, and as I collect more of my thoughts on the matter.
—-
The Concerns -

1. “The game is not balanced around 1v1, some classes are going to be more OP than others”
- Well of course the game isn’t balanced around 1v1. In fact, no MMO that I can think of is balanced around 1v1. Truthfully, balance should never even consider dueling when the devs are making their decisions for what needs to be fixed etc. It is simply a system where people can enjoy themselves and try to learn other classes, as well as their own.

2. “Dueling is for fun, not for leaderboards”
- I’ve seen some people say that they would like to have a ranking system and a more competitive scene if dueling were implemented. This is not what dueling is about. Sure it’s competitive, but it is by no means a solo queue, 1v1 style tournament. Sure, there may be people who hold dueling tournaments, but those are always going to be held by players, not a main PvP system. Dueling in an essence is a system allowing people to enjoy PvP, wherever they want, and have the ability to keep it completely casual. Dueling is a side feature, not a main one.

3. “I don’t want to see dueling when I’m in a PvE environment”
- This one I cant seem to understand. So dueling is not acceptable however zerging events such as Lyssa or Shadow Behemoth where hundreds of animations are going off, and you cant see anything are? The visual effects of a duel should not be a problem for others. As an elementalist i can simply stand in town and cast all my aoe where people are gathered at the tp and who is going to care? Most likely no one will say anything, and that can be done as of right now.

4. “People who duel have a negative attitude towards everyone else.”
- This couldn’t be further from the truth. Of course, there will always be negative attitudes in an online game. It’s everywhere, not just with pvpers. However, it should not be the assumption that those who enjoy a fight amongst friends or rivals completely disregard anyone elses feelings. In fact, most people surrounding the dueling community that I’ve experienced in other games are quite friendly. I know that if someone were wanting to duel me and struggling, and wanting to get better, that I would gladly offer my assistance in helping them improve. It’s a great way to meet new people, make new friends, and create another community that people can be a part of.

Reasons I would love to see dueling in the game

1. “Dueling is a great way to pass time, while waiting either for a queue or other things”
- Having the convenience of initiating a duel right on the spot is a great way to have some fun while waiting on anything, be it a dungeon or spvp queue. It is a quality of life feature that I believe every mmo should have.

2. “Dueling is a way to get to know someone, without them even speaking”
- This is the concept I used in many other games when I was recruiting for pvp team or guilds. Every time someone was considered, they were required to duel either myself or another person high up in the guild. Of course with those other games they had different levels of gear, so that was already an imbalance no matter how you look at it. And secondly, just like guild wars, those games weren’t balanced around 1v1 either. Knowing this, we still decided to have duels anyways to test a players skill. We knew how to look past the gear and the difference in classes, and look at how the other player was behaving under pressure as well as the decisions they were making. These and other factors can determine a players level FAR greater than any interview I’ve ever given. Now you can queue in the seeing is believing, and actions speak louder than words quotes. And they are the truth.

3. “Dueling allows players to get to know themselves.”
- This is great because when we face a better opponent and lose, we want to know what we did wrong and how to face them differently next time. We strive to improve our own skill and learn from our mistakes. Dueling is also a great introduction to PvP for those who have not experienced it yet. If the option were available on the PvE side, friends new or old to the game could simply right click another, request a duel, and battle to their hearts content. Fighting in this casual sense where no extra pressure is added can be a very fun and exciting way to enjoy the game, as well as each others company.

Also I will add anything else to the list if people would add in on what they would like to see more of, in regards to both benefits and concerns. And the original message has been deleted to make room for this post

Revamp to Elementalist elite skills in PvP

in Elementalist

Posted by: Cynic.4805

Cynic.4805

Currently our elite skills seem rather weak and almost useless or gimmicky at times and I feel they provide hardly any utility. Here is my suggestion to make the elite skills more viable.

Glyph of Elementals – Make the skill a dual use skill (swaps to a second ability after used). Have it so when summoning say an air elemental the second ability would be their stun, water elemental for their heal, and so on. This will fix the randomness involved with the current design of the AI.

Tornado – It seems that no one wants to use this skill because we become an instant target once used. A way to fix this is to summon a stationary tornado with a health bar equal to that of the caster (therefore glass cannon eles can have their tornado killed quickly to prevent the massive dmg it could put out). This would take the pressure off of the caster and would provide a tremendous increase in viability and utility.

Fiery Greatsword – idk it’s good in pve or I guess taking down gates/trebs but if anyone else has an idea for it feel free to post

And of course, I must once again suggest my idea of adding another elite skill. One similar to cold snap in WoW where it would reset the CD of all weapon skills. Make it like a 3 min cooldown or something so it’s not abused. And yes, many people have told me this elite would be far too overpowered due to double firegrabs/blazing speed but that’s hardly possible seeing how after the first blazing speed you’d be out of position for the second and firegrabs can be hard enough to land as is.
