The Mystic Coins Inbalance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DancingMad.8504

There is a single mistake in logic in this thread. People defending the current price (80s sell price) are claiming that you have your free coins by logging in and you are paying from the priviledge of getting your legendary early. THIS IS WRONG. Buying them fromTP is the ONLY option.

Assuming you don’t want to buy and want to gather all your mystic coins from your log in reward, you will have to wait 1 year for your legendary. 1 year. This is a ridiculous amount of time for a shiny weapon that it’s only merits are ….sparkling. A weapon in a freaking video game. A VIDEO GAME. Think of it. "Well , i geared up, explored all the areas, done all the events in this game, i think it’s time for my legendary! What, i have to wait a year? Oh well, i will make another cool weapon while i wait. What, those need mystic coins too? Well, what is a year and some months? "

So as anyone sane can understand, buying the coins from the TP is not a price so you can have the “priviledge” of buying your legedary early, it’s the only option (for anyone with a life at least). This is a fact.

Like seriously, the way of thinking of many people here ranges from naive to straight up moronic. I dread to think how much advantage people here are being taken care of irl.

I remember making 4 of my legendaries back in the day with mystic coins costing like what, 10s? If Anet wants to maintain the cost of the legendaries they can do it more naturally, like saying adding extra materials, or something, but letting the only feasible way of aquiring large amounts of an item being …buying it from the (easily manipulated) TP is dump.

Infinite light Mat Statistics

DancingMad.8504

Personally when i made infinite light (around the time charged lodestones were sold for 3,20g) i never bothered with going straight for lodestone drops, i just farmed all the easy dungeons a day and bought cores/crystallines dust which i promoted later to lodestones.

Well almost all.
I tried to farm the sparks outside of gates of arah for a bit, but didn’t found it efficient (got <10 from there).
I also had like 70 charged cores from when i was farming the FGS train

So my advice is to just forget about the drops and speedrun all the fast dungeons (including CoE) and just buy the mats.

And stay away from harpies.
Seeing hordes of trash mobs holding the 1000+ gold sword that you farm hard to buy can be kinda demoralizing…

Speaking about it, why in God’s name freaking harpies in queensdale hold this thing? I would be ok with perhaps a fractal mob, but harpies in queensdale? Common Anet you are just trolling now.

Huh, the casual army that whines about farmers in hope that with farming gone they might sometime catch up with the rest, except this will never happen is assembling as always.

Time to leave this forums for another 3-4 months.

Ohhhh almost forgot, someone flamed me at tpvp some hours ago, better remove that too, i can’t take that toxicity!

Loot = Why We Play (Stop the Nerf)

You’re assuming your own conclusion, though. If intrinsic things are thought shallow and easy to get and external things like loot are harped to the high heavens and considered the one and only ultimate “goal”, then that’s how you design your game. But it does not HAVE to be that way. Loot does not HAVE to be the end-all, be-all of every game. And in the minds of at least some of us, it SHOULDN’T be.

Of course it does not have to be that way for you.

You are a free man, you can do anything you want.

But please don’t go against us who care.

If you don’t want to bother yourself with loot and item progression, don’t bother, no one is gonna judge you.

But here we are talking about an extremely large part of the community that actually cares. The (semi) hardcore part of the community.

I don’t understand why i need to explain why item progression is one of the fundamental aspects of a MMORPG game.
This is, seriously, a fact.

Each time someone wants to criticize Anet’s policy on loot nerfing we get a thousand casual players trying to enforce us their way of thinking stating how loot is of no importance and we shouldn’t care about it.

Well, things are not that way.

Loot is an important (the most) important factor in any RPG game.

Loot does absolutely nothing for gameplay. Gameplay is absolutely the only thing that will ever matter in any video game. No amount of loot will make me do something that isn’t fun and no lack of loot will stop me from doing anything that is fun.

1.) Getting shinies is fun
2.) Continuous improvement of your character ..be it stats or flair is fun
I believe I have summed up a lot examples that this is the way it is. Also, I never said anything about doing something that is not fun in order to obtain loot. ..please dont make up stuff. Anyway, would love to see a pic of your character, armor, weapon skins, quality of the gear, etc. If you arent dressed up in some random yellows cleric armor wielding a green weapon you submit to the fact that loot is important to you as well.

…Try not to use fallacies as arguments. The desire, and importance, to improve your character is not the same as loot being important. …..

So, what is it?

  • Skill points
  • Trait unlocks
  • Trait combinations
  • Skill level of actually playing the character

Need I go on?

Yes, you need to go on because the first 3 things you listed are considered given and the absolute basis for any character that wants to consider himself decent and are extremely easy to get.

And let’s not start on the skill level required to pve in this game.

Loot is an undeniably huge part of every mmo, and what gives some form of meaning to the end game for the hardcore players.

They don’t hate farming specifically.

They hate everything that gives players gold that wasn’t bought with gems.

People don’t understand that – bling, in this game, is about working for it as it is optional – now you have to work for it if you want it.

I absolutely agree with you, Dusty Moon. People whine because they want legendary items through non-legendary means. facepalm How about, don’t even consider converting money —> gems --> gold. How about, just play the game, and if you’re committed enough, disciplined enough, you get what you worked hard for. And if not, you really don’t deserve it. It’s not just about game devs making money. It’s about the game having value. Items (especially cosmetic ones) have value intrinsically because of it’s scarcity. That principle means not everyone is going to have one. What should determine who should have these precious items and who shouldn’t? Well I would suggest that it should be the people who are willing to put in the time and effort. As for everyone else… My legendary weapon, my fractal weapons, have value to me not just because of the look, but for the simple fact that you don’t have one and you want one.

You aren’t acknowledging the fact that it was easier for people in the past to get what you got. They aren’t asking to be handed anything they are asking for the same rate to get something that you had. How can you say with a straight face that people should just work at it when in the past it was way easier. How about make it so everyone who wasn’t around for it can make 100g a day doing dungeons. How about bring back the pen/shelt farm so the new players can get their t6 mats. This game has changed tons in the last year and for those that made tons of money in the beginning to say just suck it up is pretty lame considering that most of them had it way easier.

Stop making sense, it’s forbidden in this place.

Play the way you want doesn’t mean getting the best rewards for doing very little. It never has and never will.

This is the second time you try to undermine the people you are discussing with by presenting them as lazy or whatever.

Why do you feel the need to do that?

As if anyone asked for free legendaries or whatever…..

DancingMad.8504

What “my way”?

Well, you can play “your way”, but don’t expect rewards out of it.

This game discourages you from playing the way you want to play, due to it’s reward system, which point’s you to the direction Anet wants.

What makes a truly good game is to have all the different aspects of it equally rewarding, so the player can play what he truly enjoys. Guess what, gw2 is far, far from it.

And no, im not saying make it easy. Make it equally rewarding.

I won’t ask for a precursor drop or for the mystic forge to give me one.
I can work for it, no problem.

The only thing i will ask is to buy it at a freaking logical price.
The Legend around 7hours ago when i last checked was 1079g on the TP.
1079, almost 1100g.

Is this what Anet wants?
Is this thing intended?

I have no problem in spending 600g. Or 700g. Or hell, even 800.
BUT NOT 1100.

Sorry this is insanity.

Play the game the way you like, and let the others play the game the way they like.
A simple fundamental concept that sadly many people here seem to ignore.

And trying to eliminate grinding is as a ridiculous idea as it gets. A proper game should have all the options open for the player, and let him choose the one fit for him.

Also, the idea that dungeons in this game possess any short of challenge or require any amount of skill is an illusion greater than any the mightiest mesmer can create.
Most of them are set processes, from step 1 to step 5/6/7.
Skip here.
Stack there.
Skip again.
Now stack here.
Boss time, stack here and press 1-2-3-4-5.

This is your challenge, the “challenging” alternative to people who think themselves too skilled to join the train.
