I, for one, have no gripe with the developers of GW2. I agree that they have done a marvelous job presenting us with an exciting, fun, and immersive environment; they are to be commended for their hard work and efforts. With that said, I believe most people posting on the HoT pricing realize that it is not the developers who set the price nor put together the “packages” for the product. Of course the developers are people and so are those in marketing and it is to those marketing folks that players (who by the way are people and are entitled to express their opinions, but hopefully in a civilized manner) have directed their ire. It is not about “entitlement.” It IS about fairness. I have no problem with the $50 price tag for the “Basic” edition of the expansion (I know many have said it is not worth the price for the limited content. But I fail to understand how they can know this, since the game has yet to be released – by the way, Devs, I think the glimpses of HoT that I’ve seen are incredible! ). The fact that it includes a copy of the core game for new players makes a lot of sense, as well. It’s the best way to keep bringing new people into the game. Two points are crucial here:

1. It has been explained that existing players will not receive a new copy of the core game with the expansion. Fine. That makes complete sense. Then offer existing players a character slot for the new profession at the Basic level. That IS NOT an unreasonable request.

2. Change your pricing structure somewhat.
– $40-$45 for the Basic expansion only – no character slot.
– $50 for the Basic expansion and 1 additional character slot.
-The other tiers can remain the same.

The saying goes: “It’s not personal, it’s business.” ANet and NCSoft are businesses at the end of the day and we are consumers. As a consumer, it is my choice to support or not support a business based upon the “value” that they offer. The developers have offered us a marvelous game that has much value associated with it. The marketers have offered “veteran” players little to no value from a monetary standpoint and have totally hosed new players who forked out $10 in preparation for the expansion (thank goodness it was only $10). I do feel for those new players who bought the core game at $10 only to find out that it wasn’t really necessary. Maybe those folks deserve a little “love” from the company for being mislead? At the end of the day, I will likely buy the “Basic” expansion, but will curtail my buying of gems (with RL cash) as a way of limiting my financial support in the future.

Reason why people are mad: Fairness.

Sadly, the only conclusion to draw from this is that Arena Net does not appreciate the fan base that has supported them for the past 3 years with GW2 and even before that with GW1. Truly, $50 is acceptable to me for the expansion. I do not really care about the extra “goodies” attached to the $75 and $100 offerings. What I DO care about is not being given an extra character slot for the new profession for my $50. In order for me to make a Revenant, I will either have to delete a current character from my stable (I currently have 10), buy the Deluxe version for $25 more, or buy $10 worth of gems for the extra character slot. Pretty classless, Arena Net, and not a very nice way to deal with your LOYAL fan base. You show your DISloyalty to us through your actions. As far as new players getting the core game AND the expac that’s fine by me. It doesn’t make sense for new players to only have the expansion. I’m sure there are many achievements and items I have that they never will. I do wonder if there could have been an “expansion only” version, but then I am not well versed in programming, etc. I was planning on buying the expansion, but am not sure if I wish to continue to support a company which has shown so little regard for those who have supported them for this long.

There is this, however. I have been a very frequent buyer of gems throughout the years (and yes, I do realize that was my decision. Not complaing as much as stating a fact). As a matter of fact, it might have been cheaper for me to play a game with a sub fee. Lol! IF I buy the expansion, I WILL NOT buy gems (i.e. pay cash) to purchase another character slot nor will I continue to support Arena Net through the “cash” purchase of gems. All is fair, ANet.

I would also like to reiterate my thanks for being selected for the Beta. I enjoyed the overall environment. It was a lot of fun to be able to access so much of the map (from a vertical standpoint).

- The events were fun, but it took a while to get used to the Revenant’s skills with each weapon set, especially running right in to a fight (on the other hand it was exciting testing it out on the fly). I found I enjoyed the hammer more than mace/axe, but I still had fun with the latter.
- Switching Legendaries took a little getting used to (I liked using both, but found the Dwarf’s to be a bit easier to play). Like others here, I found healing to be very easy by healing in one aspect and immediately changing to the other and healing there. I think that is a very nice mechanic, but would think the CD between switching Legendaries should be a little longer.
- Applying Mastery points was very confusing without any direction. I agree that applying points should be straightforward, click on the skill you wish to learn and…voila!
- I truly enjoyed gliding, but had to fall a few times before I understood what was going on. I also felt it took too long for the “deploy” dialog box to appear. After I figured out that my gliding time would be extremely short at first, I made sure to aim for nearby landing zones to keep from falling to my death. After I was able to apply points in “updrafts,” I found gliding to be much more enjoyable.
- Overall game play was enjoyable. I really did not experience any lags and the only “glitch” I found is when I was attempting to jump onto a ledge. I would fail multiple times and then all of a sudden be “teleported” to the spot I was trying to jump to. Maybe that was a bit of lag. I’m not certain.
- I felt the Wyvern fight was quite doable with 8-10 people. However, I agree that the Revenant needs some sort of ranged weapon (unless I wasn’t playing it correctly) because it seemed you had to get close to do any damage.

...Thank You!!

I was very surprised and very excited by the Beta invitation and would also like to express my thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed my “sneak peek” into the Revenant and loved the new Gliding ability. All-in-all, I thought it played very well and I experienced very little difficulty. I know I am going to love exploring this new map in all its vertical glory. Thank you, once again for the privilege of joining in this Beta.

I completed 2/2 (Monthly Completionist and WvW Player Kills) plus one other achievement (Monthly Successful Events) and was close to completing my 4th (Champion Slayer) before the update. I did not receive a reward for the 2/2. AFTER the update all of my monthly achievements reset and I had to redo the three I completed and start the 4th all over again. I definitely want my reward for the first completion and would like my reward for the second, as well.

The quest stands upon the edge of a knife, stray but a little and it will fail. But Hope Remains, if friends stay true. — J.R.R. Tolkien

This quote from Tolkien is the inspiration for the name of this guild, because we want to create an environment that is filled with friends that are true to each other and the enjoyment of the game we play.

We are a mature (18+), social casual guild that was started by a couple who shared a love for the game and ALL of its content.

If you are a person who does not want the game to feel like a job or your enjoyment of it to burn out due to the drama and rigors of hardcore raiding, then you may want to consider this as a place to call home.

If you are a person who is looking for hardcore raiding or the next ultimate “leet” piece of gear this is NOT the home for you.

We want to enjoy killing the big baddies with a group of friends in a relaxed environment where we can share successes and failures together.

Let us know if this sounds like a great place for you and yours!

The goal that the founders of Hope Remains had when they started the Guild was well achieved. We have built a wonderfully tight-knit community that is friendly, supportive, and fun-loving. However, we are a small Guild and looking to grow to increase Influence. So, if you desire a casual, fun-loving gaming environment, give us a look. No matter what your interest (PvE, PvP, WvW, Dungeons, or Special Events), we very likely have people who would love to join you. Visit us at: www, hoperemains.info

The Guild leaders are Brangwen Liana, Azmon Muraas, and Gaelbhan/Taliessin/Kierellyn/Seamaire (I believe in alts! Lol!). Look for us in game and say hello.

What an incredible group of people we have in Hope Remains! Yes, Guild Management has changed recently; however, the personality established by the Founders remains: Togetherness and a true sense of Community.

Hope Remains was started pre-launch. What made it attractive to me was the idea of a “casual” Guild with a focus on support and friendliness as its core. At the time, I thought this was too good to be true. Happily, it turned out to be very true. Friendly, welcoming, supportive, and jovial are just some of the words which describe this very unique band of GW2 adventurers. What is striking to me is that I look forward to chatting with my guildies while we play as much as I look forward to playing GW2. For me, the two go hand in hand now. And for a person who is more of a “solo” player, finding a group that I can’t wait to play with is quite the eye-opener. Lol!

If you are looking for a Guild and have a mindset that the fun of the game and the people you play with is more important than the gear you collect, give Hope Remains a look: http://www.hoperemains.info/home or contact me in-game.

Hope Remains is looking to grow and we are looking for like-minded individuals to grow with us.

Same problem on Crystal Desert. Gave up on this about 2 and a half months ago because of similar problems. Have spoken to both Mardine AND Snactchskull to no avail. Why is it that this particular event/area is always broken? AND it’s the only way to get to the Vista!! It’s the only thing I need to complete this area. Please fix…again.

We are also looking to become more of a WvWvW presence over time. There are a number of us who are always up for Dungeon and/or Fractal runs. Friendly, helpful, and supportive are words that best describe the members of Hope Remains…

Joining Hope Remains is the best decision I could have made. I have been a member since August and was struck by the great sense of camaraderie I experienced right from the start. We may be a casual Guild, but don’t mistake that for “unfocused.” We are regulars on Dungeon and Fractal runs and have even gathered in World from time to time (and looking to be a more frequent presence). Playing GW2 is fun, but playing with a group of people that you look forward to interacting with is even better. Look “beyond” the game….look to community. If you are looking for a friendly, supportive, and fun group of people to game with, then come to Hope Remains! :-)

I’m in agreement that WvWvW should be removed from Map Completion. If we are rarely/never in a position to be in the “Red” position, then it becomes difficult to complete the “Red” map. Of course, one way to do this would be for a guild to “zerg” it. If you have a group of 20 – 30 people you could, ostensibly, clear the whole thing. But, seriously, that shouldn’t have to happen and still doesn’t address the problem of someone soloing a map being unable to clear it. Keep WvWvW the way it is, but remove the maps from the Map Completion Achievement.

I am on Crystal Desert and have also been experiencing periodic disconnects during game play. I am also experiencing extreme lag in non-event instances during solo gaming. I am experiencing this in Orr most frequently. I have not experienced anything similar since launch and have never had any issues with my connection prior to the last few days. I have also noted some members of my guild having the exact same problem. Please fix. Thank you.

Hey Josh & Jo!
Thanks for the invite! All I can say is: What a great group of people! I’ve had the opportunity to join up with people for PvE, special events, dungeons, and WvW and the experience has been great every time! The people are very welcoming and the support and camaraderie is apparent and greatly appreciated.

I have noticed the same thing with my male characters. I did notice it once or twice with my female characters, as well (male voice instead of female).
