These vets are getting stronger and stronger

50+ players engaged in the event = Extremely powerful veterans… Events scale in difficulty depending on how many players are engaged.

Test it yourself. Go kill a veteran with nobody around. You’ll find you don’t get hit nearly as hard and deal a lot more damage. It would be pretty pointless if they didn’t scale and near impossible to tag anything as dozens of players instakill them.

Will They Ever Release A Cape?

The problem is clipping. They’ve wanted to introduce capes but they need to work around all the clipping problems (Where the model partially intersects with the character/gear models). And yes, that is a tricky problem to fix without massive overhauls.

Reading these comments reminds me why I don’t work in IT anymore. Stop blaming ANet for any supposed DDoS attacks (Proof? Or are we just assuming?). Mitigating DDoS attacks aren’t as simple as you guys somehow think. Even if ANet was being attacked directly, normally businesses like ANet don’t run hardware like Cisco Guard (Their provider would). Other than that, all you can do is null route your servers and wait it out.

All I see here is that you got outclassed. He used Kill Shot when you had no endurance. That’s called strategy. You want ANet to nerf Kill Shot because he used it at an opportune time? Burst attacks do a lot of damage, that’s the point but Kill Shot is stupid easy to avoid, considering it takes 2 seconds to cast and it’s very noticeable when a warrior is channeling it. They practically have a giant “Kill Me” sign over them when they’re channeling it. Not to mention Kill Shot builds are practically glass cannons. Dodge, evade, shield, whatever, then kill them. 1v1 against a Kill Shot build is a joke.

That’s the point of PvP. No class is the best at everything. If your build specializes in one thing, you lose something else and in the case of Kill Shot warrior, you are pretty much completely defenseless. If you fail to dodge Kill Shot, well, that’s your fault.

Orr didn't work. How should it be changed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Darkicon.7950

Orr is fine. People just need to actually go there. No matter what ArenaNet does, short of buffing loot for those who choose to zerg events, it will remain dead. Orr is only broken (Besides events that do have a tendency to bug) because nobody bothers to do any events or even visit the zones. New content generally takes precedence over old content. As more permanent new content is added, older content will die out. Look at Southsun for instance. During the event, there were tons of people there, now it is deader than Orr.

What could fix the zones would be an underflow (As was pointed out in the suggestions section), wherein if there are too few players, a new instance of the zone is created, merging the zone(s) from low-pop servers. However, the events that have a high likelihood of bugging need to be fixed.

I’m gonna go zerg champs in Queensdale and complain how easy this game is but continue to avoid Orr like the plague because the temple events are too difficult now…

What you guys want is not more difficult content. You got that. Go to Orr. What you want is better loot for your time and risk. That’s why everyone is zerging Queensdale champs. Good loot with low risk.

you don’t know me, stop assuming things about me.

That wasn’t directed at you specifically. Stop trying to start fights on the internet… By the way, that was my first post in this thread, yet your choice of words make the inference that I have repeatedly written to you, which I have not. Don’t assume people are talking directly about you, the world does not revolve around you.

Eternity the new void

Would ANet not introduce changes to Eternity retroactively? Seems to me it would be very sophistic to not introduce retroactive changes to legendaries, unless we’re talking changes to how it’s crafted, ableit if you already have Twilight and Sunrise, crafting Eternity is cheap, considering if you have the precursors, all you need is 1 skill point and 5 tier 6 mats.

You could give contacting ANet support a shot. Maybe they’ll help you out, although I wouldn’t hold my breath. I’d contact them through web support rather than in-game so you’ll be able to do the back and forth deal so you can try to explain your issue.

Will China share the same economy?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Darkicon.7950

The markets cannot be compatible. The Chinese version of the game (Which I assume will be hosted by NCSoft Shangai or a third-party licensee rather than by NCSoft SK, West or Seattle, whichever hosts GW2 for NA) has censored content which includes revised textures and possibly even models. This would create a serious issue for trading because ANet would now have to develop a system wherein if a Chinese player sells a censored item to an NA player, said item would be removed and the NA player would receive a brand new uncensored version and vise versa. Okay so that’s not overly difficult to do (I’m a software dev), albeit I don’t know how ANet coded the TP system. Not to mention that all of the CH servers will need to sync to and constantly communicate with the NA servers, which can become slow if the host network is being flooded with traffic from players since we’re talking almost a 6,000 mile span between servers. I’ll assume the TP is handled on a separate physical server, but even still, unless they’re dragging fiber optic lines across the bottom of the ocean or paying hundreds of thousands of dollars a month to beam data via satellite, it’s gonna get slow.

Secondly, as stated before, people will most definitely take advantage of the arbitrage between markets to make insane amounts of gold.

Why go through all the unnecessary weeks of further development to the TP, possible rollbacks, bugs, etc. to solve a problem that’s easily ameliorated by simply completely separating the two markets. No harm done. As I always like to say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Consider this: The ratio of actual players to RMT employees in China is abysmal. They would use the joined markets to amass thousands of gold, which they sell for real currency by flooding the markets with ill-gotten goods, which will cause ridiculous inflation. The only bots that get caught are ones using public or semi-public bots and ones that are reported by another player. ANet can’t watch tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of players and with ANet’s mostly efficient way of banning botters (Periodic mass ban waves), the market will get flooded even if they get caught. Unfortunately, even if ANet manages to ban, say, 10,000 bot accounts, 0.3% of the total account holders in the US, there are still another 20,000+ bots that haven’t gotten caught and may never.

On the other hand, NCSoft releasing this game in China is an extremely smart sales strategy. They’ll both be utilizing China’s massive population of MMO players and the RMT market. China’s MMO gaming population consists of nearly 3,000% of the US MMO gaming population. Initial sales could exceed GW2’s total sales in NA and EU within half a year. Let’s say bi-annual mass ban waves disabling 100,000 accounts. A good percentage of them will proceed to buy another copy and continue botting. Assuming GW2 will cost ~¥360 (China equivalent to $60USD), that’s a bi-annual, pre-tax, net income of up to $6,000,000USD just off of sales to RMT companies. Include gem store sales and retail/digital sales to people other than RMT companies and you more than likely have a much higher net income off of GW2 than in NA/EU.

Unfortunately, no, I’m not. I only wish there were a ‘report’ option on that mail. I didn’t ask for charity and if I were to, I surely would not be asking for such a useless item.

What a sorry state today’s youth is in.

Indeed it is… quite ungrateful nowadays.

What makes you think he/she is young?

A persons age isn’t the issue, It’s ATTITUDE that is in question.

I agree, let’s see how different it is with a response to my post from those people above. Will they admit they were wrong, or will they get angry?

edit:

We have our answer. Sadly I didn’t expect anyone to own up to their mistake.

Okay, so it may or may not provide him any benefit. What would a rational, mature person do when faced with this situation? Delete it. Not come to the forums and whine and complain that they are offended and nonsense like that. It’s disgusting.

So what you are really saying is “I’m really angry because I don’t feel they should express their opinion because it’s contradictory to mine”. Yeah, it’s certainly the “youth” that have the problem here.

I have a feeling you are arguing just for the sake of arguing yet completely missing the point. You get a free item and complain about it? Or even more absurd, compare said free item to fecal matter? I also do not see any anger, passive or otherwise in Jrunyon’s post, which leads me to believe you have misunderstood his/her post. If anything, your post has angry undertones and contains no constructive criticism. Instead I see you bashing Jrunyon because you misunderstood him/her.

They’re just saying it’s a little asinine to complain about generosity. A free item is a free item and it does in fact provide a benefit, provided you use it. If you don’t use it, then whatever; that’s your prerogative but to complain about getting a free item is just a little odd and may resemble that of a troll post, regardless of the poster’s original motives.

As far as youth goes, it has little to do with age. There are plenty of adults with generally negative attitudes. Not saying that’s bad, it’s just the way the world turns.

Solo Dungeons?

Gonna bump this back up.

I agree with above. As someone who has played Guild Wars 1 since 2005 and who now only has an hour or two a day to play, I think just a solo option for dungeons should be added, wherein the difficulty would be lowered to support only a single character but of course still be difficult. Not necessarily pure solo dungeons like Warcraft or Rift.

Josip, that comment was unnecessary and uncalled for. Everything in Guild Wars 1 was soloable (With the advent of Nightfall and heroes), even elite dungeons, albeit with quite a bit of difficulty. Even pretty much everything in GW2, sans dungeons can be soloed. So it stands to reason that dungeons in GW2 would be soloable as well.

I get the whole living world and cooperation deal for GW2 but not everyone has time to sit around waiting for people for dungeons and it’s not like having a solo option would ruin that.

It looks like we need a lesson in history:

In GW1, once you leave the starting area, there is no going back and that area is intended for 1-8. It was extremely difficult to level to 20 there (Mind you, much harder than 1-20 in Shaemoor being you had to death level). What was the point of it? Nothing, except better dye drops but people did it. So are you really going to yell hacker when you see a higher level person in Shaemoor?

Doesn’t take large stacks either. If I sell anything too quickly even just small stacks (5-10) of a few items, I get the error after the 5th or 6th one. I am usually able to remedy this by closing and reopening the Trading Post, however, sometimes I end up having to wait 30 seconds or so.

Character Re-Customization

Darkicon.7950

Problem is very few people actually step into action to get what they want. Nobody writes to them, just a few of us. A few more take the time to comment here, and the grand majority just read about it, but can’t find initiative in them to do anything about it, not because they don’t want it, but because most people are like that, never act.
That is why, a lot of other more important things are wrong in this world, people don’t fight for anything, they just surrender to corporate machines, don’t fight for their rights and beliefs and are basically cattle who don’t deserve to get what they want, because the world is for the strong, and they are weak….
This is obviously tremendously unimportant in this context, but works in the same rule set.
If half the people who read this thread (doing so implies some sort of interest) sent an email to support, asking for this feature, I’m certain we would already have it.
It’s not even laborious to do so, it’s so simple, takes 30 seconds…

There’s a fine line between suggesting something and reiterating yourself over and over again into redundancy seeming like you’re spoiled and entitled to the point where you think ArenaNet should give you exactly what you want exactly when you want it.

Also, please, go to college, take a few computer science classes and come back and tell me, who is a software engineer, that “it’s so simple, takes 30 seconds.” If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s people who act like software development is so easy. If it’s so easy, why do I get paid so much to do it?

Actually Stratzvyda, it’s very simple tactics. Rather than trying to bash ArenaNet and call them greedy (Even though they are not charging you a monthly fee), you should try to use some logic and think about this. Botters tend to report to other botters if they’ve been banned in which case, everyone using said botting program/exploit/botting area/etc. would stop using that one and switch to a different one; one this not known about.

By banning in waves, you allow more bot accounts to accrue in say a list, then, once you hit a certain quota, be it 500, 1000 or however many, you ban them. This actually allows for many, many more botting accounts to be banned than banning on sight.

Believe me, ArenaNet couldn’t care less about the profits they make from botting accounts, especially when RMT’s account for the vast majority of botting accounts who often use stolen credit cards to buy the accounts. Do you really think ArenaNet likes chargebacks and dealing with creditors when someone buys an account with stolen money? Money ArenaNet by law cannot keep?

Fallacies in your proposed solutions:

1. Easily abused. By how many reports do you expect to see for this solution to be in effect?
2. That’s not how bot accounts work. They spread the gold over many accounts to avoid exactly that.
3. Handing down power like that to players? That will never work out. Just imagine what happens when someone gets on that guild’s bad side.
4. Same as #4.
5. No for two reasons. For one that would severely annoy players and two, those are easily bypassed.
6. That could work and probably already happens however, one thing ArenaNet has never done and I doubt will ever do is banning possible botters on the spot.

Explanation for #6:

Senario A: 2 botters. One is found and banned the other continues on without being found.
Senario B: 500 botters. Find them all, ban them all. By allowing them to continue botting, more potential botters will use the same exploit/script allowing ArenaNet to find many more of them then ban them in a sweep without alerting them that the exploit/script has been discovered and move on to a different exploit/script.

Give ArenaNet time. They eventually added name changes and then rescustomizations to the GW1 store, why wouldn’t they add it to this store being it would be generate a very substantial revenue considering so many people would want to change their name or appearance.

Why I think teleport costs are unreasonably hight

Darkicon.7950

Are there really this many people who can’t get gold? I’m not a hardcore player, I use WPs constantly yet I never seem to run low on gold. Especially being how quickly you can earn that coin back. Do you people not pick up loot or do events something? Or do you just like to run around aimlessly because that sure is what it sounds like with all this whining.

And Xarog, you need to teleport 3-4 times to complete your daily? Try doing it in 1 zone. You’re just trying to do it as fast as possible and that is so far from the point of a video game it’s just ridiculous. Do you even get any enjoyment out of this game? By the way it sounds you play, it sounds a lot like you’re just trying to do everything as fast as possible so you can finish playing for the day.

As you said, if you feel this game kicks you in the teeth every time you want to do something, there is one very simple solution. DON’T PLAY. Obviously this game is not for you and you obviously don’t like it.
