I just hope that, at the end of this arc Scarlet gets cut in half. Then I can say
“You really were a cut above the rest”
“But too bad you didn’t make the cut”
“Guess you could call this a slice of life”
“I’ll cut you a break, I’m gonna split”

I’m sorry, just trying to pass the time while waiting for this patch to come out.

“Ooooh…”
“Oooooh!”
“Please stop!”

Thank you for reminding me of something I can do to put a smile on my face; DBZ Abridged here I come!

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

So this post is for something my guildies and I have noticed about the aura that we get when we weild Twilight and Sunrise. My character is a human female that’s relatively short, and his is a taller human male. We also have another person in the guild with a human female using Sunrise.
I have Twilight. The first person in my guild that I mentioned had it as well, and recently also made Sunrise. (Now he has Eternity, so I can’t take any further screenshots) The second person, the one with a human female and Sunrise, as well as my character both have noticeably larger auras when our weapons are drawn than the person who has now made Eternity did before combining them.
So to be clear. A human male seems to have a much smaller or less noticeable aura from his drawn legendary greatsword than a human female.
Thoughts? Are we just crazy? I’ll get some screenshots of our female human guildie with Sunrise to add to this ASAP.

PS: I am sorry for the atrocious screenshots. Our guildie making Eternity got impatient and these were the best I could do. I’ll work on it.

My thoughts on Ascended/Direction of game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I just want to throw my two cents in here

I saw you mentioned that to maintain best-in-slot stats and be all that you can be, you need ascended items. That is simple logic and can’t be argued. However, you never explain how a game balanced in such a way that a party of people in rare quality gear can complete any content would require you to have best in slot gear.

You point out how ascended items and their pacing of a few months between releases and the mandatory nature of acquiring them results in a gear grind. Never mind that you can get all of the accessories over the course of the game just by completing your daily and monthly achievements, not to mention get a little boost from collecting achievement points in general. The actual time to get most of the materials required for an ascended weapon are well within the mark of a few days and could feasibly be collected in just one.

Then you point out that you haven’t done much research before you started this thread. Ascended weapons are available from a pick-your-weapon-type box that can be collected from champion loot bags and from Fractals. They are not exclusively crafted. And keep in mind that while most of the materials to make an ascended weapon are account bound, the time-gated component can be bought and sold on the Trading Post as well as the ascended inscriptions themselves.

Getting 500 crafting is mandatory to craft an ascended weapon, but you don’t even need a crafting profession to do Fractals or open a champion’s loot bag. Yeah it’s expensive. But that is the fault of the players and not that of ArenaNet’s. We determine our prices. If we truly felt as if it were unreasonable to spend that much money to get our crafting up, we simply would not be willing to play it on an international scale, and the prices for the things required to level crafting to 500 would go down.

And to be honest, on your thoughts of being left behind, you just sound like you’re asking for attention and trying to play the victim. Ascended items are there. Okay. That’s totally a thing. Nobody can argue that point. And yeah, they weren’t in the game when it came out. That means when it was introduced, we had already seen our way to getting the best gear in the game and they added more.

But we never needed to get that shiny new Ascended gear for anything other than the minigame-esque dungeon tower they added. A tower that you never need to enter, much less climb, and if you don’t want to try to get agony resistance, you just stay in difficulty levels ten and below.

We don’t need exotic quality items to get through the main storyline. In fact, we are given rare rewards from the storyline quests. And if we took those rewards and got a full set of rare gear and started doing something else? We would be just fine. It is not required, anywhere, to have the extra stats from ascended items to do anything at all.

I’m not happy with a lot of what ArenaNet has done with GW2, and I might not even like ascended gear. But to say that it’s mandatory and that they lied to you about never being required to climb a gear treadmill is just incorrect.

This is the equivalent of complaining about somebody in a F2P game getting benefits from subscribing to it. They were willing to throw their extra dedication in, and they got benefits that make the game more convenient to play, but it’s still F2P and in a lot of games you can continue to play without spending a single penny without being locked out of content. You might not be able to do it every day. You might not be able to use stuff as often or have bags as large as them. But they contributed something to the game that you don’t want to, and they got something for it that isn’t in any way shape or form mandatory.

The short version; ascended items aren’t required or mandatory in any form besides agony resistance in the completely optional high level Fractals. If you spend some gold, they don’t take two weeks. You aren’t intended to do everything by yourself in a multiplayer game. Go ahead and buy things from the other players. I don’t mean you any offense by any of what I’ve said, and I apologize if I have offended you, but you are simply incorrect. Your opinion and preference differs from facts.

EDIT: Yup! I haven’t got any clue how to use spoilers. Even the example they gave didn’t make a spoiler after copy/pasting it. Apologies for the wall of text, I can remove it and leave the shortened version if you want to maintain some order in your thread. Also fixed some spelling and made a minor adjustment to a part I considered a bit rude.

Why not?!

The number one thing I care about in an MMO is character customization, ranging from cosmetic to combative. (I could go on about that until the cows come home, but that’s not what this thread is for.)
I enjoy having a weapon for every occasion on every character and heck, I consider the justification of distastefully obtained weapons being rare for the sake of collectors to be shallow to an incredibly rude extent. People like that literally want to have a nice thing just for the sake of making sure they’re the only ones that do.
Heck, I have twilight! And I honestly don’t even slightly care that just about every other warrior/guardian/mesmer in the game since launch with enough free time on their hands has one too. I’d rather everyone have twilight rather than watch people miss out on some of the better designed aspects of the endgame in GW2, which is outfitting your character as you please.
And in regards to the living story, no, it shouldn’t reward you for all of the minute amounts of time you put into it’s incredibly short additions. I think it’s rather that people would consider participating in it a reasonable way to get the new skins and are disappointed that you can’t get them by playing through those small tidbits of story about things that are taking a painstakingly long time to develop.

That’s a sleepy man’s two cents.

EDIT: The above said? I’m fairly confident that in the 4th and final phase of the event, that they’ll either release another similarly themed line of weapons and/or armor that will be obtained through the game rather than through wealth, or at least throw us a bone and let us get one or two of the vouchers as an endex chest reward.

No, my friends, this is not a sarcastic thread. I really enjoyed jumping through it! I like the Clocktower too, but this one is purely fun whereas the other one was quite frustrating after awhile while I was still practicing and perfecting it. So, since I know the general public opinion about these puzzles, I want to make sure that someone says thanks for this. Have a happy, ANet!

The Lost Shore scavenger hunt items; what do?

Thank you for your answer. Kind of goofy, this whole ordeal… Glad I can free up that space.

(Also, just for the record, I meant “Thanks in advance” in the above post, but I won’t bother editing it now that this thread’s purpose has been fulfilled.)

The Lost Shore scavenger hunt items; what do?

I tried looking around the forums and couldn’t find anything regarding the scavenger hunt from the Lost Shores stuff. I remember hearing that, during that scavenger hunt, you were expected to hold on to your items so you could get credit on the things you missed out on finishing due to a bugged step in the hunt.

Though I turned in the items to Miyani, I still have;

Map of Southsun Cove
Mysterious Soggy Bag
Map Fragment
Magic Scroll
Alchemical Potion

And these have just been sitting in my bank for weeks now. I kind of need that space, given how ridiculous the price for gems is and my reluctance to spend that much money. What should I do? I didn’t even hear any word about what the reward was for that stuff, and I’m not sure if I as a result want to hold on to this stuff anyway. Any word or advice?

Thanks in advice for your help.

11/16/12 : GOM - AR - BP (updated)

@ Kardiamond

I understand we’re not winning because of our strategy. Yes, it probably helped, but only to save us time that we would’ve spent fighting off the enemy and rebuilding siege; in the end, we’re still doing the same exact thing as always. Just not in the same places we usually do is all, and being unpredictable like that gives us a slight edge time-wise. In the end, yes, without that event and with decreasing PvE stability, we’re going to lose most of our players again and especially will if we lose our lead. I think that will be the last morale hit AR can take before we just drop into the last bracket and stay there.

Hey all. If you’ve met a bursty warrior from Anvil Rock with a Molten Greatsword and a full set of never-changing plate armor, you’ve met me. I’m just here to share my stories and experiences in W3 and maybe get some things off my chest.

I often can’t get on board with any large groups, and often find myself purposely shying away from them. Honestly, I’m one of those 1v1 mentality players everyone hates from WoW and the like, but that’s just because finding the right people to hang with is difficult for me. (Hey, I’ve been in the same cross-game guild for over a year, and I’m basically the only one that actively tries to do PvP. I know these guys and I like ‘em; I don’t want to give up those fun times just to win with some new group of strangers.) I’m the type that will just as soon rush you from a corner and burst you down, as jump around you in circles completely passively. I used to stop and chat with people from both enemy servers with the report loophole.

I find the W3 environment to be fun mostly because of the constant sense of danger. The rush I get going into battle at the head of a charge is enough to make my inevitable death a laughing matter; I brought at least five people down with me! The situations I’ve gotten into that with even just one other person I would’ve survived, I can’t even count. But it’s all for the sake of having fun! Every once and awhile, I find someone built like me; burst and paper instead of sword and board. I’ve run head first into zergs by accident just because I didn’t look up in time. (Let’s not even mention the culling issues…) Elementalists tend to kite me around like I’m their personal play thing, but just last night I managed to FINALLY beat one when he and a theif attacked me while I tried to solo aid the Ogres. Unfortunately, they proceeded to roll over me with another burst warrior and at least two other people when I brought them down for the second or third time. And then there’s all the people that attack me, I smack them to the ground, and then when I try to let them get up and walk away they spam 1+2 to try and kill me and eventually bleed out. =\

Speaking of zergs… I keep on hearing people talking as if their own server doesn’t have one and doesn’t want to. Fact is, as stated above several times? We all do. I’m of the opinion that Anvil Rock simply did not have the numbers to actually do anything with ours until this week; a lot of our players simply seemed to give up on GW2 when we got locked into a losing/second best streak, I can’t even find them in PvE. But the event brought a lot of people back and when they saw us hold our own BL on friday and begin pushing out, they stayed.

And so this week we had the numbers.

But up until now, everyone has consistently outnumbered us to my knowledge. Either we are so determined not to communicate that we don’t even bother, and we just go around lone wolfing it(like I tend to be forced to), or my estimate last week of 30 people online across the entire WvW plain maximum was accurate. I just don’t see any numbers out there! Memory serves to tell me that we zerged fairly often, just like anyone else, but our zergs only ever had 10-20 people. We’d get squished by 30-50 the moment we found the enemy zerg. I took a headcount from a screenshot a friend showed me and saw 43 names to our 16 once. Some might’ve been mesmer clones, but what the heck GoM? I don’t see how could claim lower population than us when that sort of thing is going on literally constantly for a month.

That said, I’m glad we’re winning this week and yes, I do think there’s some strategy to it. But unfortunately our strategy is just a slightly better coordinated attack force than the average zerg. If we don’t win this week, we’ll easily lose half our numbers if not permanently than until the next event to bring them back. Our server just seems so incredibly empty; even now, just a couple days after the event, we can’t get into LA overflow until prime time and as such it’s nearly impossible to do FotM between that and connection BSery.

So what have you all been seeing? I’m curious to know. How often do you guys find a zerg that beats your zerg? Who do you see where, doing what? And I have to ask…

… anyone here danced with a bursty little AR warrior? XD

EDIT: Oh dear Kittens, wall of text.

Suggestion for Mesmer weapons

in Mesmer

Posted by: Darkonus.5196

Darkonus.5196

I agree that it would be good to give a more damage focused one-handed range weapon to the Mesmer. A dagger would fit that roll well in my opinion. In regards to the skills, I think a focus on AoE would be a very good thing and allow a Mesmer to run certain events a bit more comfortably.

The #1 skill could be a series of three throws, the first one being tangible and bleeding the target, the following two being simple bouncing illusions for flat damage and possibly a random vulnerability or weakness. Maybe at 25% and 50% respectively losing 5% per bounce with a total of 4 bounces/5 hits? It would only bounce between enemies.

Slot #2 could be another dagger throw, but one that applies a similar effect to the Warrior impale skill or Guardian greatsword chain. A damage-over-time that would last, say, 8 seconds and allow the Mesmer to hit 2 again to detonate the effect. It could do additional direct damage when you press the button again coupled with maybe three or four stacks of bleed, in an AoE effect around the target a good 300-400 range out. Cooldown could be 10 seconds.

The #3 skill, a clone skill that pops a clone where your thrown dagger lands as a ground targeted AoE and a short duration blind. 10 to 20 second cooldown with my opinion leaning towards 10, and the clone would politely spam a dagger that would only damage the first target, but bounce to other targets causing a single 2/3 second confusion over 4 bounces.

For offhand #4 you put up your dagger to block the next attack that hits you. If you don’t block or you activate the secondary effect then you summon a phantasm that will use a mobile daggerstorm with some decent range and damage. If you succesfully block something than you get teleported backwards maybe a distance of 500-600 and gain 2 seconds of stealth, leaving the phantasm where you were standing.

And the last skill in slot #5 would be a plain spin-to-win similar to the Guardian’s Whirling Wrath with both melee damage and ranged daggers being thrown out that either cause bleed or bounce to one other target, effect being random. You would be immobile while doing this. Projectile reflect or evasion seems a bit over the top for this, so maybe instead you would get 1 second of either vigor or protection every second it maintains, up to 5 seconds. (Not random, one or the other, I just can’t decide which.)

My ideas for skills aside… (and the tl;dr version…) It really would be fantastic for Mesmers to get a multi-target ranged effect going on. I could never recommend a Mesmer to go to Cursed Shore to reap the rewards the events there give, simply because they are so crippled in effectiveness. Those Cursed Shore events are easily one of the best ways to get some money at the moment. Kind of unfair for a one character player.

EDIT: Diaz pointed out a few things that were either unclear, flat out incorrect, or didn’t fit with the way a Mesmer’s skills are arranged. I edited a description and rearranged the skills slightly.
