So it’s been a month, and not only is this not fixed, but the Fractals still force you to set difficulty to the lowest level of the group, instead of letting you set it up to the highest level of the group.

The DCs not being fixed after a month is simply unacceptable, and the difficulty setting not only fragments the community, but flies against everything ANet has stated about enabling you to play with friends without barriers.

Extremely disappointed in this company right now.

Having everything in the dungeons hit for massive amounts of damage, even on non-telegraphed attacks, is a laughable design. It seems that is all ANet is capable of though, using jacked up damage and spammed 1 shot attacks in place of more interesting mechanics.

You didn’t read any of this thread did you?

There are multiple posts here telling you how to clear these dungeons, without getting 1 shot by working with your group. There are very few mechanics that suddenly one shot you with no warning (none that I can think of offhand other than obvious bugs).

As someone said earlier, there’s no place for selfish specs or glass cannons in PUGs. You can do it if your group is well organized, or if you’re very experienced, but it’s still largely not worth it. Every time you die, you not only lose your DPS, but the DPS of every team member that has to stop to revive you. Take survivability talents/gear and the overall group damage will go up.

Was that nicer, since my last post was infracted and deleted? Sorry but people need to be told when they’re frankly either bad, or not looking at the mechanics well enough, otherwise they’ll never get better. Hand waving and claiming that dungeons are too hard when the majority of people in this thread are not having issues, and even offering advice on how to improve is ridiculous.

Go ahead and infract me again, it’ll save me from having to read all these posts by people who haven’t bothered to learn how the game works, and call for nerfs instead of asking for tips to improve, or worse yet ignore tips that are offered up. These forums are filled with self entitled players looking for boring easymode gear farms. There are plenty of MMOs which offer that type of gameplay, this is not one of them, and I’d rather it not become one because of pointless whining with no effort put in to understand the game as it is.

In fact, why is this thread even up? The OP said he’d delete it if he saw a video of a group doing the “impossible” CM (one of the easier Explorable Modes by the way). There are two videos in this thread showing it done, one of which I provided with feedback and tips on how to function in dungeons, with another stickied at the top of the forums.

In before I get infracted again for telling the truth.

So will dungeon tokens "space requirement" ever be reduced?

Yep. Also the most any stack in the game goes up to is 250. Don’t expect the change you’re looking for any time soon OP.

So they’re not meant to spawn on the road anymore? Because even with the health fix, having them spawn along with the new mobs is excessive, especially on those tight walkways.

The instant you get behind the run is over, no way to regroup and get past all those mobs spawning endlessly.

The patch notes state that Grenadiers are reassigned, so it’s likely that their spawn was never turned off, though it looks like they have the correct amount of health now.

Either way, this path is still not worth doing until it’s fixed, in fact it’s even worse now than before.

I never said level was everything. I said if I had to pick between two strangers who I know nothing about, I’m taking the higher level one because they have more traits, more skills available, and presumably more experience on their charchter.

That’s why sub 80s get passed over, it should only happen in PUGs. Guild groups or groups of friends know better. PUGs are generally terrible in every MMO since the history of ever, which is why I refuse to do them. I’d rather not do a dungeon at all than PUG one.

Find a guild or group of friends to play with and your problem will disappear.

Because level 80s have more Trait Points, more skills unlocked and presumably more experience with their character than sub-80s.

If you were organizing a PUG and had to decide between two strangers that you know nothing about, wouldn’t you take the character with the best chance to make your group succeed?

Not to say that sub 80s can’t do Explorable Modes, they certainly can, but anytime I make a PUG, I automtically assume the randoms I pick up are terrible. Why take someone with inferior stats, traits and skill choices as well? It’s also why I refuse to PUG in MMOs.

Between my experiences in WoW and SWTOR I have no faith at all in the average MMO player. Compound that with the fact that dungeons in this game are much harder than in WoW or SWTOR and you see why sub 80s are passed over.

Did TA a day after, got 40 tokens instead of 120.

Dungeon Token Diminishing Returns reset once per day, at 5:00pm PST (same time your Daily Achievements reset). If you did your second round of TA prior to this time, then your DR hadn’t reset yet, so your reward was correct.

Otherwise, open a ticket in game.

Party mechanic lacks depth.

Instances in this game blow.. It’s just wipe after wipe after wipe, run back and try again.

It’s lame and just uncontrolled chaos with no strategy.

It’s not the instances that blow. This game has more strategy involved in successful grouping than any MMO out there. The fact that you think it doesn’t exist simply means that you haven’t figured it out yet.

People constantly use the “GW2 has no Trinity” argument to justify their terrible glass cannon builds, with completely selfish utility slots and traits. Then 5 people specc’d and geared this way form a group in Map chat and expect to finish an Explorable Mode.

There are plenty of games with faceroll easy dungeons that 5 randoms with no strategy or communication can sleep through. This game is not one of them.

It’s not a matter of you being bad, it’s a matter of your group not working well together. Dungeons are much different than general leveling PVE. You can’t approach them the same way.

Our Rogue actually has a livestream and we ran CM path 3 (Butler) tonight. I think the only time anyone died was to the Rocket hallway, which our Mesmer and Rogue had never done before. I’ll post a link to the specific video when he’s done streaming but in the meantime, here’s his channel if you want to check out some of our dungeon runs and how we approach fights. Ignored them. We sat him on top of the regen totem so it died to AOE and cleaves on its own, but we never focused them at all.

AOE Blind and projectile reflect are the best ways to blow through CM. We just did it last night with Ele/Guard/War/Necro/Necro.

It’s been said before, but these dungeons are not ment to be pugged by 5 randoms with no tactics. There are plenty of games with faceroll zerg dungeons. This isn’t one of them.

Get to know what combo fields, boons and conditions can do to enemies; then use them as much as possible. It’s really as simple as that.

Warriors do fine damage for instance. My Mesmer damage sucks, but you do the damage through your phantoms, especially underwater. The ranged autoattack puts boons on allies, which is its main thing. Underwater melee with the Mesmer (spear) is kind of pointless) So maybe its a matter of reading your underwater skills properly and using them to their advantage (not always damage).

I play a Warrior main, and no, they don’t do fine damage. Their damage is better than everyone else’s, but it’s all relative. Everyone’s damage underwater is too low.

As far as skill usage goes, that sounds great and all, but it’s not engaging. Take the last boss in path 2. His spear charge decimates melee, so everyone goes ranged and basically rotates their snares/immobilizes/weigh downs and ranges him to death. Ccling through 1-5 (like I said above). Not threatening or difficult, just boring. Add to this the reduced damage underwater and it’s now boring and long.

Ultimately it all boils down to damage and/or mob health. The fights are boring to begin with, couple that with length and it just feels like busy work. The two “tanks” or whatever (I think in path 2) are another good example. Two boring, non-threatening mobs in a row with a boatload of health.

The best part is path 1 is such a joke by contrast that I actully think chain farming path 1 would be faster tokens than doing 2 or 3, even with DR. When we finished Path 1 we were surprised it was over so quickly (took less than 20 minutes first time doing it).

Possible spoilers.

So after doing these paths the first time, does anyone actually repeat them?

Underwater combat is awful. AWFUL. Yes it is better than the underwater combat in other games, but that’s like saying that getting a broken arm is better than a broken leg.

Why is the final boss in both paths underwater? In path three there is at least a small platform you can stand on to range him down, but considering the horrendous damage that all classes do underwater (barring grenade Engineers) and the high amounts of health on both bosses, these fights are simply tedious, and not engaging at all, especially when enemy mobs are doing their full complement of moves and damage suitable for an Explorable Mode.

At least the path 2 boss is somewhat interesting with how hard me can melee, but the trash leading up to him is excessive, and with his extremely high HP, the fight was more tedious than difficult, because again, underwater combat is terrible. In fact, tedious is the perfect word to describe these last two bosses. Not difficult, or exciting, or engaging, but slightly annoying, and extremely tedious.

Please consider either reducing the trash in both underwater paths, decreasing mob health by 1/3 if not 1/2, or best of all, increasing player damage underwaater by 2 to 3 times, in all areas of PVE. At one point our Elementalist was laughing at the 43 damage crits he was seeing, in a level 80 instance. Not dot tics, autoattack crits.

My only thought whenever I do any type of underwater combat in this game as it stands now is “When is this going to be over?” The underwater stuff could be fun, but player damage is so low that most underwater fights boil down to spamming your 1-5 in that order and waiting for the enemy to fall over 4 minutes later. In short, boring.

I can safely say that with these paths in their current state, I will not be doing them again. I know you guys want to believe your underwater combat is amazing Anet. Trust me, it isn’t. If this instance had been available for testing during beta I can guarantee you’d have heard an earfull from me at that time, instead of after launch.
