Recently I’ve been in more and more groups where people are doing higher level fractals with little to no AR, and it resulting in a disaster.
I got in a group at level 26 or so where 3 of the people hadn’t even been in the fractals before.
Most recently, I had a guy in the group who didn’t talk at all, even when questioned. It was fractals 30 and it was quite obvious he had little to no AR since he kept getting insta-defeated. It was the third fractal and in the end we just had to kick him, which would have sucked for him. (edit: The reason we had to kick him was because we couldn’t get passed the asura boss, trying many times. As soon as we got in a new player, we finished it with ease)
I really hate kicking people or giving up on a group, but due to how FotM works (and it works well IMO), if you don’t have the minimal AR you really shouldn’t be doing high level fractals.
So why does this happen? Should there be a ‘suggested AR level’ popup when you enter at certain levels? Is there not enough information about AR in-game?
I can understand peoples need in groups to enforce players linking their ascended gear before entering the fractal. Avoids much frustration and wasting of time.

Thanks for clarifying.
I have no idea why I didn’t immediately assume the (No Rangers) meant there were already lots of rangers in the group.
For the legendary grawl (at least in my levels of fractals) I find my ranger to be quite useful, since I get rid of its bubble quite quickly with rapid fire + quickness, then I swap to double axes for reflect + damage on the elementals. But if there are still elementals up after that, I agree that I find it hard going to kill the stragglers, so I can understand why it may be more difficult at a higher level.
Here and there I keep seeing people alluding to not wanting rangers in higher level fractals, such as in gw2lfg.com requests for (NO RANGERS). I would just like to simply know why this is, purely out of curiosity.
Some reasons that I have considered:
Bleed cap – I have seen other requests in gw2lfg not wanting extra bleeds since they already had a bleed heavy group. This is understandable, but then this probably isn’t the reason since rangers then wouldn’t be specifically targetted.
Jade Maw – I’m only on level 17 difficulty in the fractals since I’ve just been doing the dailies for rings, and pets can be a little annoying on the Jade Maw since things go a little slower when the maw targets the pet and there is no way to permanently store your pet (Comes straight out again if you take damage/get into combat).
Bad players – One reason I have heard is that the ranger class tends to attract players that aren’t that good. But surely such players would have a hard time getting to the higher level fractals anyway, right?
So please, if you know the answer then let me know. I’m not kittening about people that don’t want rangers – I am simply curious as to what the reason is
Only the ones in LA. You can still get them in Queensdale cemetary, etc
The back piece was not only fun to get, but looks so cool! I have it on three of my characters. Thanks for Halloween Arena Net, I’ll definitely be dropping some real money on the Witch costume.
There seems to be a lot of people confused about what they can actually get out of Halloween as players that don’t have a lot of gold, so here’s a compilation thus far.
Free Stuff:
Mad Memories (back accessory) – It is an awesome book that is displayed on your back, and you get it from completing the scavenger hunt. There are a few guides for the hunt around the place, but the best place I think is the Guild Wars 2 wiki. Back pieces are rare, so definitely go for this if you don’t go for anything else this Halloween.
Devil Horns (town clothes hat) – This is, it seems, the equivalent of festival hats that you got from events in Guild Wars 1. It’s from the Gem store and it’s free! If you’ve played Guild Wars 1, you’ll know that in those events this was pretty much the ONLY thing you got free (aside from consumables, etc), and was pretty much the main reward for participating in the event.
Cheap stuff:
You can still get in the spirit of Halloween with some of the cheaper items that even poor people like myself can buy.
Various skull themed shoulder pads – Just look up ‘Deathly’ on the trading post for the full list. At present all of them go for under 2 gold, which is nice! They are obtained from Black Lion chests and Mad King chests, but they can be traded which is why you can get them cheaply off the trading post. Worth a look!
Temporary cool weapon skins – 6 silver (or 150 candy corn) for these, obtained in Lion’s arch by the candy corn vendor next to the mystic forge. Though few of us will ever be able to get the real versions of these, for Halloween you can try them out.
As well as all this, if you participate in the events you can get trick-or-treat bags and candy corn, which I will not go in to detail about, although I will say it might be an idea to hold on to these (as well as the crafting components that come out of them) as this is only Act 1, and in later acts you may be able to do more with them!
And so there is plenty to get out of Halloween for those on a time and monetary budget (scavenger hunt takes about half an hour if you don’t have waypoints). Don’t be disheartened about all the complaints of not getting rare weapon skins. And also, thank you Arena Net for all this great content!
