I think it’s insincere to say this is an ignored aspect of engineers. I’ve seen the posts and I hope Anet continues to ‘ignore’ FT because some excellent effects can be taken advantage of based on how FT AA works. IF Retal kills you, don’t use FT when your opponent has retal. It should go without saying that good players can adapt to their situations. You have multiple options for kits and weapons.
And if you’d want to use FT in WvW zergs? You can’t because you’ll kill yourself faster than the enemy will. I’ve tried it. On paper it looks nice, but in practice it doesn’t work because of retail. The simple change of 10x AA hit chain reduced to 5x hit chain would drastically improve survivability in WvW. In small scale fights sure, FT AA is bad and shouldn’t be used at all unless it’s situational like a thief in Shadow Refuge.
As it stands now it’s only really applicable in PvE open world roaming/tagging/zerging. In PvP/WvW it’s not useful.
I’ve been on about this for over a year, but as most things related to engineers we’re just ignored. Gadgets, Turrets (aside from healing turret) and a few gyros (looking at you shredder gyro) need a complete overhaul because at the current state of the game they’re bloody USELESS!
For flamethrower AA to be viable it needs a damage increase and in my opinion the 10x hit can be reduced to a 5x chain hit or a 4x chain hit which would result in less retaliation damage taken.
Alternatively they could lower the cast time instead of damage increase which would essentially do the same thing.
Nades have the same problem, ever tried to Nade barrage a zerg with retaliation? Try it, and watch your HP melt.
Edit: Will these things change? I highly doubt that. Personally i have no hope in Anet. Their game philosophy is great on paper, but in practice is not so and leave a lot to be desired.

magi if your group need you to heal, berserker/viper if you want to do dmg.
Problem is the staff, if you want to heal, then staff is the go to weapon, but it scale very porly with power so your gain from zealot is more or less null.
When you dont need to heal (or be the main healer), then you go berserker/viper and use your avatar for healing and here you lose alot of dmg by going zealot.

Magi seems to give a lot of vitality, but on the other hand with zealot dps is a bit better, but with a cost to healing power. My question is if this build is viable as well? If not then why.

Grace of the land (druid grand master trait) Spirits, Glyph of Empowerment and Spotter are Ranger specific party support skills which make ranger a good pick for the team.
Glyph of Unity must be used in astral form to heal allies fast.
Staff is a better pick over LB even with Berserker gear because it will allow you to build up astral force faster and hence heal/buff more frequently.
However LB has higher raw DPS over staff.
There are combos you can do, but that’s for another time.

This change is absolute garbage.
It’s not fun to lose 6 games in a row then just to win 1 game and lose 2 more. It’s frustrating. I knew something was wrong and after reading this post it made sense. We’re back to the mentally challenged mode that was season 1. Great. Just great.
I can forget to ever reach all the achievements needed.
In season 2 and 3 it actually felt like i made progress now i’m stuck dragging plebs with me and all they do is frustrate me.
It’s not fun. I want to be teamed up with people that know what they’re doing. Guess it’s pre-made season. No alternatives.
Story instance “City of Hope” tells me to return to Auric Basin and learn the Exalted Markings mastery……. but i have learned all exalted masteries months ago.
This appears to be a bug and is holding people back from completing the achievements.

1# Velocity of nades is only acquired through the trait. Go firearms and use nades if you prefer oldschool. Range decrease did not impact the usage of nades in any significant way. Nades were never effective at 1,5k range because the travel time of projectiles was very slow, in pvp you’d never hit anyone that was aware of you at 1,5k range. Furthermore it would impact the usage of Mortar kit because at it’s current stat it suffers from the same thing nades did. They’re too slow. DPS output of nades is much higher and that of mortar, it would make mortar much less effective (only keeping it for fields for utility) if not obsolete and everyone would pick Stealth gyro instead because that would be the only pick.
2# From what you’ve suggested it would further nerf explosives trait line and it would only be picked for vuln stacking and slightly more dps output. It wouldn’t have anything worth having. Not to mention that in Pvp it’s not used to begin with.
Condi builds don’t use it and the current Scrapper builds don’t require it.
3# Agreed. The pull isn’t working properly for well over half a year now. That being said the pull needs to have a follow up skill to be efficient. Gyro/elexir gun is designed for sustained fighting. You may still swap bulwark gyro for tool-kit. Pull a foe (then jump cause otherwise it doesn’t work properly) follow up by slick shoes then Pry-Bar, hammer 5, switch to e-gun use acid bomb then hammer 3, hammer 2.
4# Nobody uses perfectly weighted in pvp. 3s of stability does not add much to survivability which is why Recovery matrix is favored. 5s protection from using your heal turret and picking it up is more cost efficient than 3s of stab with 5s ICD.
Not to mention that it goes well with protection injection and stacks in duration.
In PvE the added 10% damage on hammer is nice.
I do not feel like these changes would impact scrappers in a meaningful way. It would further bolster the current meta of defensive trait-lines, only adding a few worthy skill swapping options.
Still waiting for the magical day when i can auto-attack with nades without having to use Action camera…. because it’s not worth playing with in pvp/wvw. For fun sure, but for competitive no.
Personally in a 1v1 scenario a power Rev is deadlier than a condi Rev.
Hammer bloody hurts.
Conditions are easy to mitigate, unlike the popular use of Stealth Gyro i personally prefer Mortar. Another water field is amazing also it synergises well with elexir trait (might and condi remove) and if combined with elexir gun 5# gives you that much needed sustain against a condi. A light field with pulsing blind can mess them up and make them miss those hits if fighting on-point and in team battles, blast it and get some retaliation to hurt them even more.
My win rate 1v1 vs a condi Rev is a 80%ish if i lose it’s usually that i messed up and they capitalized on my mistakes.
My win rate 1v1 vs a power Rev is probably 40%ish at best. Could also be that i just need to l2p, or that Mortar is less efficient against a power Rev than a Condi one, Stealth gyro would give you that much needed breathing room, but provides little utility aside that.
In a 1v2 scenario On-Point fight vs some dude let’s say a Thief and a condi Rev: i can hold my ground for quite some time, even possibly make one of them retreat.
In a 1v2 scenario On-point fight vs some dude Thief and a power Rev: if the rev uses his mighty boons to boost Thief and stay ranged with hammer i’m almost certain to retreat or die. Hammer 2 is on a ludicrously low cooldown and does massive damage, can’t be reflected as is hammer 5, only block-able. Eventually he’ll get me low and thief will capitalize on that finishing me off.
That’s just me.
Hoelbrak runes do stack with Mecha Legs trait.
Hoelbrack -20% Condi Duration
Mecha Legs -33% Condi Duration on : Chill, Cripple, Immobilize.
Together you have a -53% Condi duration on Chill, Cripple and Immobilize specifically.
Damaging conditions still receive only -20% Condi Duration from Hoelbrak

One day while i was day-dreaming i thought about a Abyss walker mesmer with daggers and State Of Mind or Mental State utilities similar to stances, for instance Mental State: Aggression – for 6s give pulse might and fury to yourself and up to 5 nearby allies, also allies do 10% more dirrect & condi damage, when mental state ends blind enemies in 240 radius and grant allies chaos aura.
Or something like that.
By now i can keep track on what i have summoned and shatterd, but at times it’s slightly confusing. I agree that some QOL is needed. Here is what i’m suggesting (added a picture)

Amulet spot was left blank because i have a Marauder one from Act 1 Achievements it gives 133 power 133 precision 71 vitality and 71 ferocity which add up to 19k+ hp.
Primary weapon is GS, but secondary may wary but stats are zerk also. Staff as secondary for more kiting, you’ll get tons of illusions to shatter with Deceptive evasion, Illusionary Reversion and Chronophantasma. Shield for better AoE cleave, Torch for skips, get the pressure off of you, Pistol for extra ranged dps.
I’m quite happy with marauder set. As a light armored medium health pool class i feel that building extra hp is better than building armor in the long run, unless of course you go condi.
Thief uses Shadow step, shadow refuge, re-stealth over and over. It’s kay.
Mesmer spams condis while having reflects, block, blinds, Decoy and Blink and other stealth and invuln. It’s kay.
Warrior uses This invlun. granting stance then that invuln. granting stance. It’s kay.
BUT OHHH kitten ENGI USES GEAR SHIELD AND EXLEXIR S WITHOUT having ANY mobility skill other than jump shot or none at all if p/p & p/s and one stun break. So op, so broken. Laughable. Get out.
Mass Momentum does not convert 10% toughness into power, it converts about 6%
Hammer AA feels clunky, slow.
Hammer 3# also feels clunky and doesn’t hit the target 3 times when they move.
It has the same pause as daredevil did after each dodge in BWE2 thus making it a poor escape/chase skill.
Heal Gyro is fairly nice others are “meh” by comparison.
Stealth gyro has no place in wvw/pvp but is nice in pve
Final Salvo: could use a bonus 20% CD reduction on gyros to make the trait worth while.
Recovery Matrix: This trait triggers twice with healing turret once when placed and 2nd time when overcharged.
With the upcoming Mass Momentum scrapper trait this will be a even greater boost. That said i only ever see it effective in pve/pvp maily for one reason……….retaliation……..
10 hits on one target hurts, hitting 3+ hurts even more. Reducing the number of hits from 10 to 5 while keeping the damage would remedy this issue for wvw engies and give us more frontline options, but eh. Probably won’t happen, still the AA buff is a welcome change!

Zerging……errr…..nope. p/p is heavily condi.
Dungeons? well….full sinister with Bomb/FT/(free for preferance)/Mortar can do nicely. Stack them burns like crazy damage wise is not bad at all. In some instances tho where power is more prefered it might be a slight issue.
GW2 is unique in the way that each weapon skill sets are different for each profession.
We get to change our utilities and customize some of them via traits, add effects.
What if we could get alternative skills for each weapon for each class and be able to change them on the fly like traits or utilities when out of combat?
For example: Change standart Engineer Rifle AA to something else like Scatter shot a short range shot which fires in a cone infront, or Net shot to a double rocket shot that adds vuln on impact and is affected by Explosive powder trait.
Overcharge shot to a Proximetry shot: ground targeted 180 radius shot which pulls up to 3 foes after 0.25s delay dealing damage and applying 2 confusion stacks.
Mesmer GS: AA from ranged to a melee 3 hit combo. Each hit applies strikes up to 3 targets and 6s of bleed with the 3rd hit being a Aoe spin hitting up to 5 targets applyinh 6s bleed and 2s cripple.
GS 5# from Illusionary wave to Ethereal Shock- slam your gs to the ground shortly dazing (1/4) and applying 3s immobilize up to 5 targets in a 240 radius.
GS 3# from Mind Stab to Ether Onslaught 600 range leap applying 3 stacks of confusion and 3 stacks of vuln on impact, Leap finisher.
Allowing GS on mesmer to have hybrid/condi capabilities and letting them have a choice between ranged pressure and boon removal (Mind stab) or go for more mobility (Ether onslaught).
Idea being that each skill would have a alternative skill, but always in that specific slot so you could have not only better situational adaptation, but a much much wider character build customization without fundamentally changing core mechanics, gear stats etc.
You could in theory run something crazy like a Gs/Gs mesmer with one of GS being customized for a melee approach while other on ranged pressure.
Just a thought.

This started yersterday evening and i have no idea why. I had this issue before and i used gw2.repair.exe and that solved the issue then, but now it doesn’t.
I keep DCing every 5 – 10 min. No lag just sudden disconnect.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

with guard stacks you get up to 25k hp with nearly 3,1k armor and a lot of condi damage. You can switch up utilities to best suite your play style or try out different things to see what works best for you.
Crit % is fairly low with this, but keep in mind that if you go into Firearms once your opponent has at least 1 bleed stack (just 1 pistol AA will do that) you get 10% crit chance against him, so don’t focus on crit that much, you only need to proc torment and IP + Rocket kick is pretty good. I feel at times it’s too underrated by most engis.
Rune of anti toxin for more defense against other condi specs, mesmer especially since about 70% i encounter run condi setups.
Rune of Balthazar is a good alternative, if you’re runing p/p + IP + other sources of burning it’ll amplify it for more damage. Also your heal will burn which i found to be a great dps addition against anything melee, especially those HS spamming thieves.
i’ve tinkered with Tool kit/rocket boots/ bombs utilities with this setup and it’s real fun watching melee people step in your fire fields and just Buuuuuuuuuuurn. >:D
That being said i struggle against condi mesmer and diamond skin eles with this. Everything else dies pretty quick. Condi mesmer is just too kittenish, but typically they can’t chase so a few mobility impairment conditions + some leaps/swiftness should get you a safe distance fairly often. Diamond skin eles tho…….that’s where you might need some crit % to do more physical dps to get that Hp below 90%.

I was inactive for 4 days and i came back today for a short while, had the patch and after it i constantly DC every 1 – 5 mins. There is no lag just sudden DC.
Did not have this issue for a long time prior to this patch.
Some assistance would be greatly appreciated.
As of now the game is unplayable. :/
I think it may have something to do with connection to the login server.

Yup i’ve been playing this build for a few days now only difference is that i do take the mortar kit for it’s fields + blast. On point i find it really useful + Elexir gun 5 + mortar 5 + bunker down + regen + extra heal power when you have regen makes you heal up a lot, so far it’s the only build i really enjoy in pvp.
My problem with elixir X is that it’s random…….Rampager is great, but tornado is meh. unless you are in a team fight on point there is little to no point using if. F5 is alright i guess, for a short CC helps a lot, but mortar out-damages and provides more fields to mess with opposing teams heads.
If they wouldn’t have nerfed mortar i’d be more happy but oh well. #anet.
Content being walled off because a person wasn’t playing or didn’t even know the game existed at the time these items were available isn’t all that nice either.

In the previous stream (the long version 4h) it was mentioned hat 1,2k rifle range will be baseline, however the latest short stream didn’t mention it, or did i miss it?
Will rifle be 1,2k range baseline or does it remain at 1k?

@MSFone i totally agree this build will only be more powerful after the changes, i was playing with spec. calculator by that_shaman and came up with a few options this build can go, both relying on IP staying baseline to truly empower mesmers!

Despite chrono trait weapons will most likely remain staff/GS
Use GS 2, GS 4, go in for a dodge+shatter. You get 1 clone back from Illusionary Reversion and iZerk respawns because of Chronophantasma, switch to Staff use Staff 5 + Staff 2, you’re back at 3 clone to shatter again! and the only clone-generating skill you used after the first shatter was Staff 2!
Tho w/o domination you do lose boonstrips + stronger shatters + other awesomeness :c but the same old domi/duel/illusions would work with this build easily, with chrono on the other hand you don’t need traveler runes no more.

The guy has mained nothing but engi since the game came out, you can trust him he’s an engineer!
Truth be told if you prefer being in the back-line you’d be more effective in any content gw2 has to offer (pve/pvp/wvw/open world) as a staff ele not engi, not in it’s current state anyway.
Judging from things you don’t want to use you’ll be losing a lot of dps. Rifle – far better power dps than p/?, Bomb and Nades kits are by far the best source for damage and conditions, there is a reason they’re so popular and often used.
If you want to play Open world then go with whatever.
If you want to play dungeons then 6/6/0/0/2 with full zerker gear + pack/hoelbrak/strength runes + rifle + nade kid +bomb kit + elexir gun
You could go condi Rabid or Celestial.
Pistol is a condi weapon with a power build it won’t shine much, you could go with HGH elexir build instead of turrets.

You can get both Empower illusions and Phantasm fury while still getting boon strips and mental torment. Tho all of this really relies to IP and Illusionary elasticity staying baseline
Traits that are now baseline:
Reduced glamour recharge rate
Phantasmal damage boost
Manipulation range.
Illusionary Persona: Shattering illusions creates the shatter effect on you as well.
Illusionary Elasticity: Bouncing attacks have one additional bounce.
Protective Mantras: Gain extra armor when you cast a mantra
(and i really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really hope it does stay baseline)
Not using shatters, your core mechanic, at all is counter productive
But if IP stays baseline you get some interesting options even if you shatter pre-fight
It’s not just class discrimination it’s BUILD discrimination within the class itself. Just yesterday i got verbally trashed from another engi he got ganged in wvw by my server people and i together with another guy just happened to ran pass at that moment, since he was about to go down i helped and tagged him to get exp/loot.
A minute later i get whispered and the trash starts (added the screen shot, look at the chat box) This is just a sliver of kitten that guy kept throwing.
I like cele engi because i feel like it utilizes every single stat beautifully and it’s effective. Is that a reason to be jerk? Apparently so and the sad thing is Devs can’t really influence that. Mentality of players won’t be changed if they themselves are not willing to change.

NEVER had this issue prior to september 19 patch and i’ve been playing well over a year now. This is frustrating the game is literally unplayable!
Anyone got any suggestions regarding this error? How to possibly fix it?

Your standart pre-patch S/D build just with D/P instead. Lots of evades, lots of blinds occasional backstabs and heart-seekers. My hardest fights are with medi guards which now every guard runs and condi burst engis, this build lacks any condi removals, but i still manage to screw up condi p/d thieves and rangers fairly easily.
I do realise this is a Theme park MMO not a Sandbox meaning devs run the show and we players have little to no say in the matter.
Recently you had the tPvP tournament. Why don’t you consult with the “pro” players about balance changes? They’re better players than you are at your own game, they’ve wasted more time than you had on their classes, they know the mechanics and tricks better. Yet you don’t care.
Honestly i was excited about the upcoming patch……….untill it came and left me and many others with a strange mix of feelings. Most of which being “wtf and why”
S/D thieves are now not viable. waste 4 initiative on a blockable skill that does no damage and can be blocked, leaped away from, blinded, evaded, invlulnerability-ed so you can get to the 1 skill that is unblockable and all of the mentioned still applies. Pure genius, Anet. In team fights i’m more useful if i just spam cluster bomb/poison.
If you would have nerfed LS damage and made it 3-4 initiative while the FS 1-2 initiative (a total of 5 initiative for both) it could have mitigated it better, additionally the fire/air sigils could use some adressing.
As a warrior i did agree that adrenaline should get wasted if you use the skill, but it deplets too fast out of combat. Arcing Strike the GS burst is still not good at all, no one will waste their precious adrenaline now on that. ever.
Hambow is still viable and currently the only some-what useful build. Celestial war got hit hard with this.
As a mesmer shatterer i got little improvements, the additional bounce is nice, but why play a glassy shatterer when you can play a mindless condition mesmer which never uses any of the shatters aside from Distortion. Scepter aside from the added coditions is still clunky and slow. The weapon itself needs a fix. As Helseth adressed in one of hes streams and i agree.
As a ranger no problem, actually fun to play pvp, can still kill them with my thief p/d but not with s/d because it’s broken. Although Signet of agility is now a must have because without the extra evades there is little time to react against the Rapid fire.
As a Guardian…….Meditiations all the way. Spirit wapons? hahaha, sure, good joke. Can destroy thieves now and really useful in any scenario, just need to time meditations correctly.
can’t add anything about the other classes due to lack of experience.
After all the ranting from countless players many of whom are devoted PvPers will devs listen? not me of course i’m not naive, but the pro players that play their game and have won tournaments? nah. maybe in another alternate universe.
By ignoring the opinion of others and only adressing bugs/utterly broken stuff, you’re making it worse for everyone.
You can’t listen to everyone, but at least listen to those who have proven themselves in combat that they know their class.

With guard stacks and the minor borderlands bloodlust HP goes up to 18k, which is nice. Armor yeah low, but after runing a tankier spec i don’t see armor all that usefull unless it’s about 2,7k if you get jumped by 2+ your best defense will be evasion and shadow steps with occasional dagger 5# stealth off something.
Not to mention 5 in acrobatics gives you 10% damage when endurance is not full, which synergises well with added might from dodging which in turn adds even more power 5% from the Runes. 5 in Trickery gives you 1% damage per initiative available, at full 15 ini you have extra 15% damage. If you’re using sword 1# with not full endurance extra 10% and added might + rune effect. Just overall dps dps dps.

still good health, extra 500 armor will allow you to survive mistakes made. lol ^^.
CS 6 for just pure damage. I think if you’re going CS you go all the way, minor traits are nice, but the 5 and the 6 for Executioner are too good to pass up when you’ve already invested in CS line.
The Pack runes (4) acts like Thrill of Crime trait you get the same boons for the same duration. When it procs and if you steal you get 20s of Might, Fury, Swiftness.
The downside of this being the lack of any “on the spot” interrupts.
