Hey guys i thought id just put the question out there. Iv had a bit of a read around and cant quite figure out what im doing wrong.
I have the permissions set by our guild to Claim locations after capture but whenever i try to do so it says i dont have the correct permissions. Even our Leader didnt have the permission when trying last night.
Is there something we are doing wrong?

Athough i do quite like the Masquerade the fact that Necro and Ele’s can have it too doesnt make it personal.

Ah good point, im referring to the human trainer – the one in Shaemore and also in DR wear the same outfit. The reason i ask is, the elementalist trainers (human) wear items in game … which makes me wonder if the mesmer one is too …
Anyone know?
A quick question – the armor the Mesmer Trainer is wearing … is that actually an ingame set?
If so where is it from or how do you get it?

I’ve also noticed Chaos Armor animation does not display on the odd ocasion. You can see the buff applied with the rest but the animation isnt there – Mainly iv found this when you use them in quick succession IE, gets granted through a combo field and then use your #4 ability.
I came up against a group of 4 in WvW last night … took down all 4. unfortunately i wasnt able to do the finish move on the last one who got away … made me sad panda
Like they have said – not an OP class just a lot more difficult to deal with at first.
Still not sure how some of the rangers are hitting me for 15k damage….
^^ probably why i havnt run into the problem. Although now you mention the Invulnerable mobs, i recall just blowing everything later?
Is there a min damage you need to do to something to effectively tag it?
Winds of Chaos on Staff very rarely bounces to additional targets and is very inconsistant on the range at which it will bounce. Sometimes it will come straight back to you 10-20 yards out but wont bounce to additional foes 2 yards away from them. Also the projectile itsself i feel is too slow in comparison to other ranged attacks.
interesting, i dont recall having issues there ( and iv got the whole map) maybe i missed that DE. Will check it out tonight.
a shatter/confusion build works perfectly fine for the DE’s and farming.
Espesh on the DE’s where you can see the incoming waves. pop your phase retreat for a quick single clone and MIrror images. Send them in for a cry of frustration shatter and Chaos Strom for extra AOE…. in addition drop a feed back bubble into them – traited correctly applies more confusion. Mobs hitting themselves for 1800-2000+ gets you loot

Shatter works exactly as intended – theres nothing wrong with it.
I run a shatter/confusion build – i take the 3 traits in the the Illusions tree – Dazzling glamours which blinds foes at the target location (feedback bubble) – Blinding Befuddlement which causes confusion to blinded targets and Master of Misdirection which keeps confusion up for 33% longer.
starting with Mirror images + phase retreat for a quick 3 clones – Cry of Frustration them into your foes, drop a feedback bubble on top of the confused and blinded targets + Chaos Storm for all its goodness + pop your iWarlock which does more damage per condition appied. At this point since you have about 20 conditions applied your iWarlock hits for about 3500 while your foes with that many conditions on them are hitting themselves for 1800+.
Single target you should be able to kill a lvl 80 mob in about 4-5 seconds or take a group down to 40-50% in the same time.
So yes .. i heavily rely on shatters, every moment i can stack confusion i do. Your iWarlock while doing big damage only really does single target and has a 5 second cast. Your Shatter on the other had causes all your foes to hit themselves for 3x that much with the correct conditions applied.
If the mesmer in your party isnt doing his/her job then they are likely doing it wrong.
Its not a straight forward class like a faceroll warrior/guard.
Saying they are a poor support class is just down right incorrect. Null field removing all conditions from your party and all boons from your foes.. plus being a Combo field. TImewarp increases DPS, Feedback reflects all ranged DPS back to the targets and is also a combo field. Chaos storm buffs everyone and does good damage .. and is also a combo field, hounds of Balthazar – amazing Direct and AOE damage…. want me to continue?

Necromancers, Rangers, Thieves, and Engineers can also pull this off. The only other profession that struggles in solo PvE vs. many mobs is Elementalist, as far as I know.

Correct – caster classes have to work a little harder in PvE – Just like Warriors and Guardians have to work a little harder in PVP and why Thieves and Rangers are Kings and queens of PVP – tbh i know very little of the Necro so cant comment.. Each class has strong points and weaknesses. I find i take a wave of mobs in a DE down to 50% before they even reach the Meat grinders by spawning a wave and cheap clones to shatter, unloading Chaos Storm and getting another 3 clones/Phantasams prep’d for a Cry of Frustration shatter. Its huge damage, while my weapons auto attack may only be hitting for 150 the confusion stacks is causing them to hit themselves for 1000+ per Mob (and thats every mob). The damage is there .. you just need to understand how to harness it
Thank you for the great posts. I’m not sure though if everyone here realizes though: most other professions in PvE farming builds routinely solo 8-10 mobs at once, and take them all down in less than 15 seconds. That’s outside of DEs.
No joke, and not hyperbole either.
Also, one of the posters stated that Mesmers aren’t a DPS class, but instead a support class. Warriors and Guardians both offer phenomenal group support — much better than Mesmer. Both professions are phenomenal farmers too.
Just to make it clear – by Most classes are you mainly referring to Warriors/Guardians?
Please do keep in mind ALL Melee classes do far greater damage than ranged/Casters.. more so casters. This is to balance the game. If casters did the same damage as a Melee class then Warriors/Guardians would have zero chance in PVP.
Remember, Mesmer isn’t a DPS class; it’s a support class. Mesmers are not designed to solo mobs, but they were intended to buff and support other classes.
100% correct they are designed to solo GROUPS of mobs ! the AOE condition application for the Mesmer is insain with the right build – however remember in GW2 there is no right or wrong build only what you enjoy.
Even as staff Mesmer with the 20 toughness 30 vitality 20 illusions build i can pull and hold aggro in DE champion boss fights – clearly doing suffient damage – or maybe they just fancy my skimpy clothing….
And just a note – if you are worried about losing damage due to the clones exploding on your Foe dieing, be on to it .. shatter them. If another creature is in range at least SOME damage is being passed on. The Mesmer has an amazing ability to unleash Clones and Phantasms extremely quickly. Use this and you will win

Staff Mesmer with Great Sword secondry
20 in illusions 30 in vaitality 20 in toughness
Utilities of Ether Feast – Mirror images – Feedback , blink and for Humans Hounds of Balthazar.
Phased retreat and Mirror images for quick clone spawning. Shatter with Cry of frustration. You dont need to do lots of damage because your foes kill themselves.
Chaos storm till your hearts content, and Feedback on all the ranged targets.
Blink for for additional survival and swap to your great sword for the knock back in those "oh shhhh* situations
While the Illusionary Warlock puts out great damage and should be used whenever you can. I find the best damage is the damage they do to themselves from confusion. Stack it like a baws !!

Like its been said – while i agree with some of your points others i do not. Maybe my play style is different to yours. Maybe i just haven’t seen it yet?
Yes clones need more health without having to trait it
Yes clones need their AI fixed or some control be given to the player
Yes having to use your phantasms during shatter imo is a waste of good deeps.
Yes the class needs to love
Yes Phantasms and Clones should persist after your targets death.
Yes i believe the Mesmer lacks damage
…….But the class is still fun to play. Claiming its outright broken is an overstatement. Sure it needs tweaks here and there but this is achieved by good suggestions not blatant “its broken and will never work” statements.
While i find the HP of clones/Phantasms low even after traited, this can be fixed.. make them too tanky though and you make the class overpowered.
While the AI for Phantasms and Clones is currently zero this could be fixed by 2 commands “follow” and “scatter”
While shattering your Phantasms is crap because you lose 80% of your damage – different ratios of conditions applied could be implemented. Lets face it … its pretty funny when you explode confusion onto your opponent and watch the big numbers roll as they kill themselves. Phantasms should just apply double the normal amount.
I 100% agree on the Phantasms persisting after the targets death – enough said. having to rebuild your damage slowly as you wait for the Cool down is a pain.
And yes i do wish my Staffs weapon damage could be a bit more. Its kinda depressing seeing it hit for 150-300 at lvl 80. however the survivability of a Mesmer is massive compared to other classes. Not only can you kite like a ranger, you can confuse, make yourself invulnerable, teleport, go invisible spawn more clones, blink more, reflect projectiles back onto your foes, but for all the lack of damage you can stay alive and fight 7-10 npc’s with a few veterans in there at once. Not many classes can achieve that.
Anyway. End rant – while your post was a good read and highlighted some valid points, stating that the class is broken is incorrect.
