Like Crystallize said, that’s what alpha testers or QA will do.
Beta test will only be testing aspect of the game that requires large number of players.
WvW, DE, Server, Etc.
And I guess any crazy small bug at the edge of the maps.
I rather craft a precursor, then be given one for free. Handing out free reward just does not encourage gameplay, which is what reward should do in the first place.
I support RNG supplemented with a token system. The amount of token just need to be reasonable.
All the points that OP listed is actually what makes GW2 good.
I do not think GW2 is for OP.
-access to other races in character creation
how will this help ANET gathers data?
Beta is used for Anet test the game, not for players to preview them.
I think those will just be converted into the new SP currency too for Mystic forge.

If you have to “grind” through DE, then what do you “play”?
I think the name Dragonhunter is silly, however… I compared it to the other trait lines instead of the profession name. I wonder how we’d feel if they said the new specialization was Virtues or Radiance?
Chronomancer compares not to Mesmer, but to Dueling and Inspiration?
And the weirdest one; we now have Reaper and Soul Reaping? So we have a spec for reaping of souls and another for all other run of the mill reaping.
lolI think they did that because they aren’t supposed to be compared. You will only ever be able to equip one elite spec at a time (when they do introduce more) and, in doing so, your class becomes specialized and your class name technically changes to reflect your new profession skills and mechanics. No other trait line changes the mechanics of your class; all they do is add effects to existing mechanics. Every elite spec is going to have a profession name for it.
I hadn’t thought of that, but it makes sense when you look at the names we have so far:
Necromancer —> Reaper
Mesmer --> Chronomancer
Ranger —> Druid
Guardian --> DragonhunterOtherwise we’d probably have “chronomancy”, “reaping” (though we do have soul reaping), “druidism” and “dragonhunting.” The Elite specs are most definitely acting as profession names.
And now for something different. If I didn’t have more characters than I really play already, I would make another Guardian and name it Bowreguard, just for this specialization…
If anyone ever does this, please please send me a picture. Please.
Umm…then how does Tempest fits in?
Devout, Prophet, Ethereal , Divine hunter
How do you see those working for Charr, who actively reject the divine as a source of power?
Then those Charr won’t become a Guardian in the first place.
ANET became too arrogant after the success of GW2. I miss the ANET of GW1 when they were much more accepting of feedback. For better or worse, ANET is no longer the ANET from 10 years ago. Much of its principle has changed since GW1. I guess that’s the price of becoming a bigger company.
All professions seek to eliminate Dragons in Tyria. The hunter name and theme was obviously made as an after thought after they assigned Traps to Guardian. Longbow and Traps….oh, it is a hunter! And lets put dragon in front of it to make it “Tyrian” and cool. Such a low level naming and decision. And Jon dare to call this name high level? Feel they cannot fit Traps anywhere else and Guardian drew the short end of the stick getting it.
I don’t think that “Dragonhunter” per se is a bad class name. But good lord… it just doesn’t make any sense in the universe of Guild Wars. Usually I’m very satisfied with ANet when it comes to lore but this just doesn’t make any sense. Every player is a dragon hunter.
Additionally it’s doubtful that the name makes sense from a gameplay perspective either. Why would it? Dragonhunters are unlikely to be especially useful against dragons since boni like these are incorporated into Masteries.
The name just feels too random to me.
Everyone might hunt dragons, but not everyone is a Dragon Hunter. Just like how everyone might fight in a war, but not everyone is a Warrior. The Dragon Hunter is basically a mix between the Final Fantasy style Dragoon and Monster Hunter’s… Hunters. Maybe I’m fine with it because I see the inspiration and I see where Anet needed to make a twist, but I like it. Now, it wasn’t my #1 choice in Guardian spec themes, but when Anet mentioned someone was going to get some trap access, I certainly did my daydreaming on what Guardian traps might look like, and I think tomorrow we’ll be in for a treat.
Guardian should not become a hunter. Fits better for Ranger or Warrior. Both of those are more alike to Dragoon and MH.
Anything but D.Hunter too.
I hope ANET better listen.
Disappointed reveal
Then what about Zojja revenge for Snaff? Actually, what about all the Bow users that hunted/killed Zhatan?
I do not think Paragon fits too. But anything is better than Dragonhunter
I do not think the theme should be dragon at all. Guardian has no connection with dragon. The name should reflect what the specialization is, which is back line support with light.
I want ANET to answer this question too
I rather be the Helper. Is not that the point of being a Guardian?
Why is a guardian called a hunter. . .
But how is Hunter related to Guardian? I do not see any connection. For Ranger sure, but Guardian?
It definitely sounds more like a title than a elite spec name.
The name should tell you how it will work, Dragon Hunter does not tell HOW.
I agree with this. It gives the sense that it controls the battlefield from the back.
Trap is not the problem if implement well, but the name is implement wrong for sure.
ANET is not what it used to be, not sure if it will listen anymore.
I do not think it should be dragon themed.
Exactly, change the name. We all hunt Dragons.
Sentinel or Arbiter are both good.
Change the name please. A profession name should give people an idea of how it works. Ranger use bow, Chorno use time, Thief use dagger etc.
Dragon Hunter tells you nothing. . . It does not give you the impression that it is a backline support at all.

that “bag” as you put it, is worth 10g
That “trinket” is only obtained from that chest, or from 1000 karka shells (18g value)While I’ll agree the event does drag on, the bag alone made the event worth doing 3x for me.
Thank you for taking the space of people still trying to do it for the first time . . .
Yeah I beta’d gw1 and have an 8+ year old account. Pre ordered gw2 and just have had a bad time with these events. Cool game but I hate being left out when the loot flows that I know I should have as well. I went through it dc’d and nothing, I get nothing…. 2hrs+ nothing. Oh well… :/
I am exactly in your shoe.
I have never been mad at Anet for the past 8 years, and they had done some controversial things.
But today, I felt betrayed. The rewards are too great for an single time event.
20 slot bag, unique ring and possible legendary precursor?
Also, last 6 hours of my day.
2+ hrs in event, dced.
1+ hrs to find another active server that is not full
2+ hrs in event, dced again.
1+ hrs to find another . . .
