While it looks like the events chaining to Shadow Behemoth got fixed on some servers, we found some additional points that are stopping it from spawning on others that we’ll be working on.
Hello Mr. King, I am from Sorrow’s Furnace and have been investigating the reasons why the ‘Secrets in the Swamp’ Meta Event is not occurring. I’ve come to the conclusion that the reason mainly revolves around the involvement of Eldvin Monastery and it’s participation in the pre-events leading up to the spawning of Shadow Behemoth. I believe that ArenaNet placed a preventative measure from allowing the Centaur to attack during the event, ‘Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery ale’ at the same time as the portals spawning for the pre-event of ‘Secrets in the Swamp’; preventing the player from being overwhelmed by two events in the same location.
The issue however, is that after Sister Brenda is done being involved in ‘Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery ale’, she becomes available for the escort event, ‘Protect the brew shipment’ where she becomes a Merchant for approximately six minutes after completion. However for some unknown reason the event ‘Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery ale’ will not wait for Sister Brenda to despawn and attempt to begin without her. When this fails the event is stuck in a state of limbo and never ends. Due to the fact that the event never ends, the pre-events never occur, and ‘Secrets in the Swamp’ never happens.
I am providing this information to this forum thread in hopes that it serves as some assistance in getting the issue fixed, as I enjoy spending my time in Queensdale helping lower level players adapt to the game by answering their questions. It only pains me to hear their disappointment in being unable to participate in one of their favorite events, and I aim to assist in the resolution of this matter as much as possible.
The following is a time log, recorded by myself with the assistance of other players in other locations notifying me when something spawned, completed, or despawned to support my research:
- At 10:27PM Shadow Behemoth spawned.
- At 10:28PM Sister Brenda and Pack Bull spawned at Eldvin Monastery to begin ‘Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery ale (11)’.
- At 10:33PM ‘Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery ale (11)’ was completed and Sister Brenda became available for ‘Protect the brew shipment (14)’.
- At 10:34PM Shadow Behemoth was downed.
- At 10:44PM ‘Protect the brew shipment (14)’ was completed and Sister Brenda became a merchant at Swamplost Haven selling ‘Stein of Light Ale’ for thirty-two copper each.
- At 10:46PM Pack Bull spawned at Eldvin Monastery to begin the ‘Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery ale (11)’ event again, but Sister Brenda is still at Swamplost Haven as a merchant.
- At 10:50PM Sister Brenda despawns from Swamplost Haven and is never seen again. The Pack Bull never despawns. The ‘Secrets in the Swamp’ Meta Event never shows any activity.
The ‘Pack Bull’ NPC from ‘Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery ale (11)’ in question can be seen in the attached screenshot and is not to be confused with ‘Brew Shipment’ NPC from ‘Protect the brew shipment (14)’.

100% Agree, +1 for Original Post.
Either mounts should be added or they really have to work on the way currency is earned/spent. Why should I have to do an entire dungeon run for a 2g gain if I’m spending about 50s or more a day on Waypoints? Lower the price of waypoints or implement some form of higher out of combat speed; such as mounts.
My suggestion would be to further upon the Looking For Group function already implemented into our Contacts list when selecting a status. Instead of simply selecting Looking For Group, have a sub-menu to select what you are Looking For Group to do. Then implement an interface that compiles a list of people who are currently set to ‘LFG’ as their status that can be sorted in a manner similar to the Guild Roster with columns such as; ‘Name’, ‘Class’, ‘Level’, ‘Achievement Points’, and et cetera.
What I find funny is that a Guardian (Mace/Focus) could look more Engineer than an Engineer can by equipping the ‘Fixer Upper’ mace (looks like a Wrench) and Accursed Chains focus (looks like some chain).
…so you’re saying the reason the entire profession doesn’t appeal to you is because of the variation of looks available to pets? And that if they add more variation to looks… you’d find the profession more appealing?
….I’ve never seen so many people favor Logan. Personally from my experiences, this is literally the first time I’ve seen anyone who doesn’t think he’s the weakest link in existence. I’ve always avoided making a Human character because of him, I mean really… what’s it like leveling as a race who’s Hero was the only one who missed role call?
…kind of sucks, cause my Achievements really want me to make at least one human.
A larger variety of pets would not appeal to me very much, as I am satisfied with the pets and their abilities currently. However, ArenaNet has implemented a new drake pet with their introduction of the Southsun Cove area. While this may seem like a small step, it is an expansion of our pet base and hopefully we can look forward to even more in the near future.
As for “a class that really don’t appeal”, you might want to try other builds than what you’re running. Rangers have the ability to create Fire, Ice, Water, Poison, and Ethereal combo fields which they can use to create countless combos using both their own Finishers as well as their pets Finishers.
Please make it a priority to enable yourselves, as a the gaming company supporting this game, to being able to refund, remove, exchange, or compensate players in the unforeseen event of unfortunate circumstances. For example: Being hacked and having your items deleted, unauthorized purchases by malicious sources using your hard earned currency, and various other situations such as these. We the players are the victims and we deserve the comfort of knowing that should anyone disrupt the harmony of our daily game play; that you, as a company, will be able to right the wrongs that have been brought upon your customers.

Let me start by saying, I want to stay interested in Guild Wars 2… I really do. But this event has actually made me lose interest in the game instead of gaining any. I hope you take my criticism seriously because I can’t see myself wanting to play this game for much longer…
Lets begin with Phase 1… The event went rather smoothly up until the Ancient Karka wrecked the Lighthouse. I was attempting to record everything for other players who missed out to see; but I could not catch the Lighthouse breaking because of the placement of the collection NPC (who was on the other side of a mountain, obstructing the view)
Then there was Phase 2… which started thirty minutes later than announced on the Overflow I was on (and even later on other player’s overflows). I actually enjoyed most of this Phase; the introduction of the new zone, the jump puzzles, and the new events and features (such as a new pet for Rangers). However the replay value of the events went sour after repeating them twice… perhaps adding something impressive and fun to attend like the more memorable meta events (Jormag, Shatterer, Tequatl, Shadow Behemoth, etc.)
Then we had Phase 3… I want to make it perfectly clear that I got to attend the event twice, and receive the loot twice. So please, don’t think that I’m disappointed cause I missed out. The Reinforcements phase was ridiculously long due to the scaled health bars… during the second Reinforcements phase people were actually seen finding little nooks and crannies that they could hide in and AFK; that’s how boring it was because of the amount of health you had to sit there and deal with. I do not know if it was intended for the timed charges to go off instantly or not, I doubt it was intended for players to be able to fall through the cracks at the bottom of the pit just to find themselves stuck in lava… but those sort of things happen. Tolerable.
Now the Fractals… I absolutely hate this idea. I love the content, I thought it was fun as hell and I only did one run; so I haven’t even experienced majority of them. But the reason I hate it… is because I have to be a burden on my friends and guild mates to catch up to them. If they are on Fractal Level 7… I can not join them. They have to come down to Fractal Level 2 and redo all of those Fractal difficulties in between, just so we can run the Fractal they were already ready to run? I’m not putting them through that. And the compensation needs a little boosting, level 25 Fractals only giving 9 Relics each… but like I said, compensation can be overseen due to how fun the dungeon is… or would be if I could run it with my friends instead of slowing them down.
Overall… I think this event would’ve been a great one-time event, like the Mad King. But you’re implementing majority of it’s content it as a permanent addition and I just don’t see any incentive at the moment to even fathom any replay value of what’s been added. The zone is just as boring as say… Kessex Hills. And the fact that ALL players have to be on the same difficulty level for running Fractals together is flat out depressing; I either have to burden my guild and friend to backtrack or suffer through PUGs. It could be as simple as any other dungeon, as long as one player in the group has completed Story Mode, he can choose to bring along friends who have not completed Story Mode to accompany him into Exploration Mode. Same idea; if someone has completed difficulty 23, or what have you, allow THEM to decide if they want to bring along friends who haven’t.
I want to stay interested in this game… I really do. But to me, community is what makes an MMO; and if a gap is being created between me and my ability to play with friends happily, instead of being a burden and making them repeat their past accomplishments? I’d rather just find a new game to play.
