Wow, patch day again and im more worried than ever. They speak of a retaliation nerf (change?), warriors boasting about guardians beeing “fodder” for them now with unblockable attacks, thiefs beeing able to take our boons? Shut down our entire class mecanic? But the thing that bugs me the most is that our support becomes a hinderence for a team facing said warrior and thief, our positive becomes a negative.
How much do you guys think this will affect Guardians in WvWvW and tPvP? Will teams opt out of a guardian because the boons will be dangerous to actually recieve? Or am i blowing things out of proportion? Necros allready have the capability to “shut” us down boon wise, but i dont know. They have also mentioned Epidemic and Corrupt boon beeing unblockable but dodgeable over on their forum, thats yet another “indirect” nerf to us.
I hope this wont break my guardian in WvWvW / tPvP

Would i be gimping myself if i went dagger instead of Axe? Feels like the dagger do more damage, and its awesome against objects I get that its melee, but in conditions that allow melee, would the dagger be > the axe in terms of damage?
Great episode
But what are peoples experience with the “new” epidemic in PvE? While levling in my 60´s i don´t see any problems with it not hitting mobs or getting obstructed. Is the complaints more PvP/WvWvW centric?
Hey Nemesis! Love your work, made me roll a necro and shelf my Engy
I´ve recently reached level 60 and decided to aim for this build as my end-game build, levling with it to learn it inside and out even if its squishy.
But my question would be if this really is the best DPS-specc for the Necro class? Been reading alot on guru and on these boards and the only build that i see synergises really well with itself is this one.
So far in my very limited experience with it is that the damage is increadible, the AoE is crazy and single target dont really suffer :p
But would it be wise to aim for the expensive gear? I will have about 200k Karma dinging 80 (I´m slow and doing dailies, hoarding liquids to use when the guild buffs are up on a event) and would it be wise to throw them on gear for this build?
Thanks again for your hard work, you made a Necro out of me atleast, see it as a small victory amongst all the whine
Cheers,
Drac.
That “Testing builds” thing is like a cupcake that fell from heaven! We post builds and you test em in dungeons so we dont have to buy the gear to see if its any good Sounds awesome!
I really like all your points on the to-do-list and i will continue to follow BoC
Good luck,
Drac.
Hey there
I´ve been levling my necro and im currently in my 60´s and im starting to theorycraft some builds that i´m testing out while levling.
One build that i found on GW2guru deep withing a thread peaked my interest. I´ve modified it heavily and made my own take on it.
Weapons
Primary – Dagger/Dagger (Using OH dagger to spread BiP self bleed and its a blind/cond remover, with added AoE bleed/weakness)
Secondary – Warhorn. (Keeping the dagger in mainhand)
Traits: (Cant remember the names of the trees so i use the “stat name” of them)
Precision (20) – 66% chance on crit cause bleeding —-> 20% Bleed duration —-> gain fury when entering death shroud —-> Reduced CD and increased duration on WH skills
Vitality (20) – restoration at 90% hp —-> Siphoning health 50% more effective —-> siphon on hit —-> wells recharge 20% faster
Soul reaping (30) – Life gain from skills plus 10% —-> 25% slower drain —-> gain spec armour at 50% —-> life blast and plague blast inflict vulnerability —-> deal 5% dmg with more than 50% life —-> Death shroud recharges 50% faster.
Slot skills
Healskill: Well of healalot (Sorry can´t remember the name)
Utilities:
Well of darkness
Well of suffering
Blood is power
Elite would be Golem (He´s VERY responsive with dagger 1) for solo PvE and a transformation in dungeons, which would be determind by the situation.
So, the premice here is to keep 100% uptime of fury with 5 sec CD on DS, which will be flashed in and out every 5 sec. I keep 15 points in “Vitality” for the life siphon (survivability since its a melee build) and it pairs really well with Warhorn swarm, ticking for pretty nice numbers.
The healing Well is used cause its added support in a dungeon and the CD aint that horrible with reduced CD trait.
30 Points into soulreaping gives 30% CD and i feel that its a reason to actually gear for Power/prec/cond damage full on. So its kind of a hybrid build i guess
One thing i thought about was using Dagger/WH and Staff as a off-set, seems pretty good with cond damage and it bring additional range and utility.
This build will build Lifeforce like crazy though so DS should be available at any time so range shouldnt be that big of a problem with lifeblast.
It ´s a really fun build atleast now when im levling with it. It´s a “spam heavy” build utilising every single ability. Even the imobalize on dagger is used on melee mobs so you can hit them and they cant hit you if you position yourself good enough. Hopping into DS and “leaping” to an enemy followed by a well of suffering and dagger 1 spam with fury up is pretty freaking awesome.
The damage is defenatly there, but i wonder how viable would this kind of build be in end-game PvE? It´s really fun atm though, but im not 80 and i cant see its “viability”.
Cheers,
Drac.
EDIT: I should clarify that this build is with end game PVE in mind, not w3 or pvp
(edited by Drac.5310)
Yeah, thats true Rennoko. But i believe the tests intentions where to prove if Necros can burst as well as a warrior, and i think the test shows that. I agree on the “long term DPS” statement but can a Warrior really keep up that damage for a long period of time? And as i said the necro brings weakness and vuln and other cool stuff to the party. Very valid point mate, but in the burst department nemesis proved everyone wrong in a sence
And Bas, i will continue to listen to your podcast while im levling my necro, ya´ll got pretty soothing voices and very interesting theorys and facts. Love it
EDIT: Oh wow, i did not sound nice at all. I love the discussion we have going, keep the awesome posts going guys!
Do you know what build was being referenced here was it Hybrid or Glass?
I believe he went full on glass cannon there to “prove a point” and see for himself how good a necro could be at full on DPS. I even believe there is a video of it somewhere.
And to the question regarding what i want to do in a dungeon, to be frank i want to be effective, if that makes sence. I was leaning towards the hybrid build because it looked like it actually had som great damage and vuln stacking, weakness and cripple, and the ability to spread em like nobodies buisness
But im not 80 and i made this thread to get some more info on the different necro builds and what would be the best to bring in PvE to lets say fractals, so i dont start to gear in the wrong direction when reaching 80.
Btw, thanks for the replys guys
I´ve also considered condition builds to be safer in dungeons, and that might sway me in that direction. Been playing the hybrid now casually in world PvE and boy its fun I think im gonna stick with it at 80.
But what about my thoughts on moving the 10 points to make lifeblast peirce and cause vuln? Instead of lifetranser AoE heal.
I had no intentions to compare Necro DPS to other classes DPS. In the podcast “But of corpse” nemesis kinda proved a necro can dps as well as a warrior, he used a boss (can´t remember the name, but it´s a 1-man dps-race) and the “best” warrior did it in 10 seconds and he did it in 12, yet he still brings a ton of vuln and other fancy stuff to the dungeon, hence i feel that Necro is “on par” DPS wise, or atleast good enough for me.
So, my question was more in the lines of which build is the best to bring as a necro if i want to DPS, not if the necro is viable in the grand scheme.
All in all i think Bhawb answered my question and i´m going to gear towards nemesis hybrid.
Regarding that build, would it not be wise to put 10 points in the last tree instead of the second last? I will loose some toughness and life transfer party heal, but gain crit damage and vuln on life blast.
Just a thought i had
Thanks for the answers
Hey guys n´gals of the necro forum, first time poster here, so be gentle
I´ve been reading up on all the different builds that a Necro can go for as far as end game DPS goes, and i feel that nemesis hybrid build is the most attractive so far.
But is that build really the “best” endgame DPS? Thing is i´m closing in on 80 with my little necro, been levling as MM but i want to do the damage myself when it comes to dungeons, atleast in the beginning of my journey.
I don´t want to “gear for the wrong build” and put my gold on gear that wont benefit me, so my question is, will i regret gearing for the hybrid? Would a full on power necro do more damage? Or a condition necro? (even though i probably wont go for full cond until they “fix” the stacking issue :< )
Or the synergy that i´m seeing (which i love btw, seems like every single ability in that hybrid build synergises with eachother) in the hybridbuild actually lifts it above the other DPS builds?
Please enlighten me
Dear,
Drac.
Oh and P.S. If Arenanet sees this, PLEASE fix the reduced CD on focus trait
Hey, necroing this thread! Could you maybe link those builds for a lost MM necro? I´m currently levling in my 40´s and loving MM so far, but i would love to know whats best to go for as far as a end game PvE MM build and how it would look like. Cheers!
Hello there! I´m from Sweden and im playing on Gunnars Hold server and i´m experiencing strange latency issues late at night. During the day the game works like clockwork as allways but when i log on at aroun 9 PM the latency starts to make the game unplayable.
I have never seen this behaviour before but it is starting to drive me crazy since often times i can only play in the evening or night.
Any suggestions would be most welcome
Hey there! I´ll be frank, i´m getting my behind handed to me lately in sPvP. I´ve tried everything! From point tank bomber build to quad kits with DPS gear and Tank gear or mix of both, nothing really does the trick anymore
A week ago i ran a 3 kit build with FT,EG and TK. It worked like a charm and i held my own 1v1 and on point fights. Lately i cant beat anything it seems.. Thiefs burst is too much ( even with TKs block and shield equipped and properly used ), i can somewhat handle warriors still, facing a guardian is a nogo for me to be honest, mesmer is worse then thiefes damage wise, other engies is not usually a problem, it seems like rangers learned how to play cause they eat me up ( not all of em though, but shortbow/condition ones do ).
I don´t know what´s different tbh, all i know is that sPvP got a whole lot harder the past few days. Maybe its unlucky of me? Facing good players? But the thing is that i considered myself a pretty decent player, and i´ve made alts running to Mists to figure out ways to beat them. But nothing works.
Now, i dont want to quit. Nono i want to evolve. Starting with this thread.
Can you direct me to a good solo sPvP build? I´m willing to try anything at this point
TL;DR
I need a good sPvP build. If its tank or support or dps dosent really matter aslong as i´m effective I´m in dire need of help
Regarding key bindings i use a mouse with 2 extra buttons, which i use for 1-4 abilities (mb3 and mb4 and shift+mb3 and shift+ mb4) heal is on E and utilities are on 1-4. Toolbelt is on Shift+1-4
Oh, and regarding the shield i like having a blast finisher for my combo fields on the knockback. I will try som variation with the rifle ( i love how it plays ) though
For some further testing im going to try a bomb kit build instead of FT, see what it brings. Man i love the engineer! I´m thinking tool kit/bomb kit/The ram or Slick shoes (No idea how they are actually named) for maximum CC/Survivability.
And brutus, keep at it! My first year of WoW i played without key-binds But some keys thats close to " WASD " and shift + them is a good place to start!
Happy hunting

Actually thats true Lyuben, the only thing that makes engineer harder than say a warlock in WoW is that you dont have all skills out on your hotbar and its harder to remember when stuff cools off. When i played WoW i filled my bars to the brim with macros and abilities, that´s more to keep track of than engineers skills in total
And regarding my build not focusing on one kit is simply because i use all my kits in any given situation! Thats for sPvP though, i´m level 3 PvE Havnt really done the PvE side of GW2 yet :p
Hey Baro Sorry if the post came across as a l2p sort of thing, wasnt ment to. It´s like you say, there´s a steep learning curve to the engineer class. But what i wanted to say was that you can be effective in pvp with a build that as you say is " private ".
Thats the build. As you say it may seem spread out, but i take CD reduct in all my skills so i allways have them ready when i need them.
The damage of the pistol aint that bad actually without + Cond damage, and it puts some debuffs on the enemy. The trait that reduces the CD on Pistol can be swapped ( and i do from time to time ) for the Vuln on crit trait. But that requires Med kit for the +20% crit chance
But this build wasnt made to do damage, it was made as a point holder survivability build. And it does the job there and back, with added support, debuffs and minor heals.
Regarding the toolkit without turrets, its not used for turret heals, its used for CC and block. That block with 20 sec CD is a lifesaver, coupled with shields block and its golden in any situation. Spreading those nails over a point over run with enemies is great, spreading bleeds and slowing the down.
Its true that i dont win every 1v1, but i sure as hell wont die. Even if they bring a friend or two i can keep them occupied long enough for friends to arrive. A true tank!
Now, the build aint set in stone, i switch traits and gear runes constantly. But this is the way i like it for now It does what it does, tanks great! But what wont change in my build is the kits, they are simply too awesome in my mind

Hey there fellow Engineers!
I´ve tried several different builds with my engineer, from bomb builds to pistol cond builds, none really made me happy.
So after trying the flamethrower tank build a few games i added elixir gun to the mix. They both have traits involving both of them so it felt natural to me, and boy was i home. The support from EG and CC, Combofield, 200 Toughness / Might from FT made me a happy camper. But i had a hard time with the third utility slot. Tried alot of different elixirs but none fell to my liking. Then out of curiosity i tried the toolkit. Oh boy, the toolkit brought exactly waht i needed to the table. A slow, a block, a " Get over here " move and some spike damage while in melee range, on top of that the toolbelt skill is pretty awesome for some extra damage.
The thing that makes this build so fantastic is the trait that casts a spell when equipping a kit. AoE burn with the FT, Super elixir with EG and a free AoE snare for the TK ( The one that throws nails on the ground ).
With all this i run Shield / Pistol, with traited 20% CD reduc on both and toughness with shield. And i take the elixir heal for the added boon and traited 20 sec CD, the throw elixir give me the edge on the support side. I´ve been fiddling with med kit though, its a very good kit aswell.
So all in all i get several knockbacks, slows, aoe heals / cond remover ( 100% uptime or stack for more heals ) 2 blocks ( This is awesome! ) AoE damage on points, conditions and debuffs, heal reduction on enemies, 2 combofields ( Fire / Light ), AoE regen, some spike damage, super good survivability ( 3 people have a hard time to take you down. 1v1 is almost allways a win for me ) and some pretty good support.
This specc do take some time getting used to but the reward is so huge when you swap kits using key abilities defending a point helping allies and killing foes.
Went up against a good bunker guardian the other day, and it was a stalemate. We couldnt kill eachother. And it was fantastic to actually outplay what most people believe to be the best bunker in the game with a class that have " Underpowered kits ".
I CC´ed him enough to actually take the point in the end, and he ran off!
TL;DR
Kits work wonders together, dont get stuck on just 1 of them! Use them together for great results!
Happy hunting
(edited by Drac.5310)
I see you points Will definetly give it a go or two
Cheers for the input! I have been fiddling around with elixir S though
And that invulnerability is sweet! Might switch goggles for that instead
With 8 stacks of might and all my buffs ( pretty decent cooldown i might add, the jump critts for 4k! )
(edited by Drac.5310)
I guess burst build is kinda off, but the reason i dont take HGH is the condition remover feels really strong, but i will try HGH and see what happens Thanks for the comment! And the goggles gives huge vulnerability ( 10% damage taken in total ), and its a stunbreak and might buff, so i like them alot
EDIT:
Tried HGH a few games and i like it! Diddnt realize it gave might to other people aswell when tossing elixirs Its a nice side effect

Hello there fellow Engineers! Thought up a build i would like to share for those in love with the rifle but still wants to be able to support their teammates while beeing very mobile.
As far as i´ve experienced the build holds its own both 1v1 and team fights, the killing power can be very high if played right.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fcAQFAUlspSXX7SeF17IBoH51vAW0jHDZK/pAbB;ToAg0CnoqxUjoGbNuak1MqYWB¨
Traits / gear is in there
You can keep 70% crit chance almost 100% of the time and 80% when they are under 50% HP. The 2 bleed debuffs on crit stack, so you can procc 2 bleed at the same time ( Damage bonus vs. bleeding targets ) and your bleeds cause burning aswell.
5 boons is pretty easy to achieve most of the time so thats atleast 5% damage, and elixirs cures conditions (!) for you and your team.
Vulnerability from crits and 10 stacks from goggle toggle ( Copyright ;P) stack up pretty good and makes a huge difference on focus targets.
Sprint can be up if alittle lucky 100% of the time here aswell, it help with the mobility.
The gun, oh the gun. I love the weapon for its CC capabilities, and the 5 ability ( 3 stacks of vulnerability aswell ) coupled with numer 3 and then 4 is great burst if done right
So, all in all i really love this in random sPvP fights Been good for me so far
A great tip is to not forget your toolbelt, remember that elixir tosses also cures conditions and the " Wall " effect you can throw out is awesome when attacking/defending points ( Spread blind / Reflect projectiles / Give stealth )
Please give me ways to imrove the build! Im allways looking for ways to do better!
The build takes som getting used to but the reward is super high Atleast in my book!
