Return of the Monk

Drayven.1429

the new outfit this week has reopened a burning question of mine since my prelaunch days, if the devs or anet would like to answer it would be cool but as a discussion i wonder… will we get to see the monk or any of the previous classes from GW1 make a return in future releases. i would love to see dervish or monk make a return as they were my fav classes from that era and was sad that they didn’t make it into release, during my following through prelaunch i was hoping to hear news on them but it never came. though i can understand why with the monk it would involve a weaponless class though since anet is all about originality with classes it would make for an interesting mechanic. dervish would require a new weapon too since its trademark was the scythe though hammer with skin wouldn’t be too far off.

i am rambling now but i was wondering what you guys thought on the subject

idk it does fit yet it doesn’t at the same time because at the end of the day they are still mages. staying at range is what they do and sure we are concidered melee mages but how often is the GS your goto weapon in boss battles and other big creatures just for its sheer power and and ability to keep you safe

who wants this instead of the shield?

i for one was waiting for it since the early days when info was just being released and seeing that skill vid for the phantasmal duelist, thinking when i started i could dual wield like her but alas all i got was the single. if at all possible areanet answer this one question, are we getting multiple specializations per class or is it the one and if so is it in anyway possible to switch to this set up since, i want to assume, most of us die hard mesmers have been waiting for the dual pistols for a long time.

Will We See a Re-emergence of Old Classes?

i for one miss classes such as dervish and monk. i was just wondering from ANet or other fan opinions of seeing old favorites return with expansions such as Janthir or even separate releases of their own.

Actually, you can’t say the game has dropped in popularity…because people can guest. There’s plenty of people…what they’re not necessarily doing is roaming around the world.

See Anet keeps introducing this free content every two weeks. Most people have explored most of the world already but this new content comes with achievements which are time sensitive.

If you stay with the new content, then you see lots and lots of people. If you wander randomly around the world, you need to guest to busier servers, because most people are divided between PvP (which has become a bit more popular than it was), WvW, dungeons, fractals and of course all the new content.

There’s plenty of people playing.

makes sense. still i am part of one of the lower tier servers in terms of pop and i see a sizeable difference even in event areas

I feel a bit sad these days logging onto Ehmry Bay and seeing no one around. seeing large group events going unfinished cause they are unsoloable and pass them by. no fractals no dungeons just wandering through new content and hope enough people are around to do it…. i can’t make people play nor do i wish to but i think we should stop lying to ourselves and change the rating for servers from how many accounts are registered to each world to how many are actually active on the servers cause i think you’d find that those highs and very highs will drop to lows and very lows. i think what the situation calls for is combining servers together cause in terms of pve there are not enough people to support some/most of the content which is sad imo. i would transfer to a way more active server like tarnished coast but those options are cut off from me and i bet there is plenty of space from dead accounts…

Help me with Sword / Sword?

i see sword/sword as more of a tank set up or off tank at the very least. its skill set is focused on shrugging/evading damage while setting up to shatter. i would suggest getting illusion regen so that you can stay on your toes, pDefender so half your damage, and time warp as an elite for the quickness, along with Signet of Inspiration, and a free slot for whatever tickles your fancy. but that’s just general, if you still want to dps you can always build for it instead but for the type of skills they provide outlasting your opponent seems more preferable to dropping him quickly with this set up

THE Mesmer Generalized Build

this is an all around build that has worked pretty solid for me in every situation i have put it through. be it pvp, pve, WvW, it has dominated in 1v1 confrontations, i have tanked champion mobs with this. though the downside is it CAN have some problems in bigger fights as it lacks large group sustain and aoe but i think the build works well enough to supplement your own utilities and secondary weapon depending on the situation. this build is meant to end fights fast and stay alive while doing it. i personally have been fond of using a Greatsword in lue of a staff when just messing around. even without the specing this build can still deal some great damage with it. i have even adventured into using dual swords with this and i have cleared group events solo in end game areas without downing. so feel free to give it a shot but so far it has yet to ever let me down and has saved me in many a situation. if you have any suggestions feel free to critique i am open to them.
