There is something already close on Metabattle at the moment. Its just a chrono bunker build that is very similar. I would say it should be there but there is more than enough information in the two posts you have already put up, if someone is doing the research, they will find what they are looking for
I also just finished my ascended gear yesterday and got all of my runes and sigils in place and its just amazing in PvE. I was able to fight and kill 1 Elite and 2 Veterans at the same time (even though they were spiders in verdant brink). I cannot imagine the frustration of someone trying to take a point in WvW against this build. I think the sPvP build is going to have to change a bit as I played with it a bit yesterday and I agree with one of your posts above, it isnt going to kill someone fast enough. Its more wait for another player to show up.
I will post when I find some way to increase some damage without totally sacrificing what makes this build awesome
I think the better choice is 3 trait armor but if you can apply the alacrity and quickness, the traits are not going to matter as much as skill uptime for the rest of the party
Multi purpose PvE? – mesmer
Solo play? NG
I like that the chronomancer is now giving the class of mesmer “something to do” at all times. I have run a number of builds but the one I am playing now is quite fun and has a lot of uptime. I made a comment to my guild last night about how much fun mesmer is but how it is a lot of work. Keeping alacrity going and the constant skill uptime management has made this class much more fun to play. Gone are the days of waiting for a CD and pressing numbers 1-5
That said, I deleted my 80 NG years ago and have not regretted it as I do not enjoy the class, even though it can be fun and effective
@Amadeus – that is the first place I started playing with these trait lines and build. I really think this is the way for the new meta as the block time, invuln, and utility along with ability for group alacrity is the path of the new meta. I hate the s/s and s/f meta that took place just months ago and love this way of playing. I have made some changes and playing with different tweaks but this is the way I will be playing for the future at least as far as I can see. For those of you interested in the other builds/thread, please see below. Its 4 posts down

I would like to make sure that the fact that this build works in PvE AND WvW is what makes it so great. Again, I will be playing with it in sPvP in the coming weeks but because it is such a different animal, I dont quite know how it is going to work yet
I have been using this build for a few days now and I haven’t gotten it optimal yet but man it sure is fun. Thanks for the build and tips, its been a great in WvW and PvE. I have not given it a serious go in SPvP but will try it over time. The great thing is that when switching from WvW to PvE, not much needs to change. I just may change a utility skill and I also go for Alls Well That Ends Well for the group alacrity. I have run it in open world and dungeons/fractals with great results.
Will anyone please share their condi pve builds here? I am having a very hard time getting satisfying results with scepter/pistol and staff – so I guess condi mes isn’t my strongest side.
Thanks a lot everybody!

this is where i am at right now
i would also appreciate any sort of critique from anyone
Why is Rabid better than Carrion when using a condition/shatter build? I have always used Carrion but am returning to the game the past few months after a year or so off. I know I will eventually get to Sinister but I feel like Rabid Or Carrion will be better for my playstyle as I prefer some HP or Def. That said, I may not ever make it to Sinister because I just never like berserker or assassin gear… too squishy for me
- total damage mitigation is greater for toughness than for vitality except against conditions, but condition builds are usually mitigated best by cleanses and team play anyway. As a high-hp class, Mesmer isn’t in the position Ele and Thief are, needing to pad their hp counts to survive bursts.
- Chaotic Transference converts 10% of toughness to condition damage (only relevant in builds that use Chaos, which is harder to do with chrono).
- They are running a staff build, which means using Sharper Images to turn clones into killers.
- Even without considering clones, Sharper Images enables using iDuelists for strong bleed dps.
- Rabid gives better reflects.
Thanks for the info. This is similar to the build i would like to run but I dont see Chaotic Transference being better than Chaotic Dampening. Because I tend to stay on staff more than my sword/focus I like to have the cooldowns on staff.
I am still trying to figure out my build but it sounds like if you are going to condi/shatter chrono in PvE and dont care for that meta build with s/s and s/f, then Rabid is still going to be the way to go
Chaotic Transference is an offensive choice, while Chaotic Dampening is a defensive one. iWarlock does little damage in a Carrion or Rabid build, so Chaos Storm is your only offensive skill that benefits from the cdr. Even then, it’s on a long enough cooldown to not be all that much of a benefit dps-wise. I’ve been toying with both, and I can’t decide which I like better. For a Sinister or Carrion build, that’s obv a no-brainer, but for Rabid…yeah.
As far as stats, as I said before, I’ve found that mixing in some Sinister has been nice. It cuts the value of my Undead runes (don’t have a nightmare or berserker set yet) and Chaotic Transference, but meh. In fact, dropping Chaos for Chrono has made that an easier choice. But in exchange, I’ve been able to hit harder when I need to with Confusing Images and iDuelist, which is very nice.
I get the off/def portion but I am constantly shattering. After I see the three dots fill, I wait long enough for the last ones attack and send them in. I find that with the reduced CD time on all the staff I can keep it going longer. I guess if I were to switch, I would need to go to my OH more (which is sw/f).
Regarding OH, I actually like scepter/pistol but I find that I still really like the iWarden. If I am in a situation where I need reflect, I can drop him and throw FB on my bar without much changing on my original build
I am playing something close but with dueling. I like having the dueling line for a lot of reasons but I also like the idea of concentrating conditions to torment and confusion. I just wonder how good torment is going to be in open world pve

I would like to use a similar build, which gear stat combination would be best for solo/open world play?
Start with Rabid, and transition to Sinister as you become better with your active mitigation and timing. Just replace one piece at a time, as there will probably be a balance point between Sinister and Rabid that works best for you.
Eventually you’ll be confident enough to go back and reevaluate whether you want to go full hybrid (full sinister, Viper, or whatever), and then you can start planning out your ascended gear.

Hey All,
Probably a silly question. I’ve always run mesmer condi builds, always loved them. Love shatter but nothing like a good condi.
Does playing in PvE seem viable to run a condi chrono with phantasm focus?
so like either Inspiration/Illusion/Chrono or say Dueling/illusion/Chrono. If so what would you recommend for weapons for both options?
Cheers.
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: careful, you might start another “viable” argument.Open-world: condi is very viable.
Dungeons: meta is alacrity chronomancer, what you bring after that is just gravy. You can run condi if you want, and you’ll be just fine. There’s a solid argument in power’s favor, but since your personal dps is supplementary, and condi dps is decent, you’ll be fine. The only exception is reflect-heavy paths, where Assassins will dramatically outperform, and condi-hostile paths (like some Arah paths).
Raids: See Dungeons. If you do roll condi in dungeons, though, absolutely use Sinister gear over the traditional Rabid. Not only does rabid make you more of an aggro target, but you need the extra power in order to damage objects (like graveling burrows). Fun fact: objects can’t be crit, so Sinister technically does the same damage as Power (minus trait/rune/sigil bonuses).
For a trait setup, I’d say Dueling/Illusions/Chrono is not optional. iDuelist is the only competitive condi phantasm, and that requires Dueling. Illusions is obv necessary for the shatter condis, and chrono is part of your premise (and is why you’re being brought in the dungeon anyway).
For weapons, I’d recommend Scepter/Pistol+Staff. If you want to go heavier into support, swap pistol for shield and use Staff clones/shatters as your primary condi application, swapping to shield to Tides of Time the raid.
For open-world PvE, condi Staff is one of the best soloing weapons in the game. I have so far managed to solo every champ I’ve come across in the HoT zones with my staff, sometimes even under reasonable trash mob pressure (heavy trash mobs makes it really tough). For dungeons/raids, staff clones are a much-needed backup in case your phantasms keep drawing aggro and getting squished, and staff is an essential defensive weapon if you’re relying on pistol instead of shield (since you lost all those defensive traits from Chaos).
For gear I’m still recommending Sinister, as it combines all the best stats (power for objects, precision for reflects, condi because you’re a condi build). I haven’t played around with Viper yet, but it’s possible Viper will outperform (especially with the nerf to condi duration food), though your reflects will be even weaker on it. Maybe a mix would be good.
For Runes, top competitors are Nightmare (with a Rampagers Orb in the 6th slot) and Berserker. More accessible options (read: cheap) are Undead and Krait, but do your math before you use them, because Krait might be overfilling on your condi duration and Undead won’t be netting you as much extra condi damage without Rabid gear.
Nightmare was the uncontested winner for Sinister before HoT in my opinion, but that 5%/5% from Berserker is…really tasty (fyi, the 5% damage affects reflects like Scholar does, but without the 90% health requirement that Scholar does).
This is some great info and insight. Thanks so much for posting this. Any chance you could put up your open world/dungeon/raid builds?
Nice video!! Do you use that build in sPvP?
That music sounds like Parov Stelar

Why dont we have an ele guide sticked for kittenus sakes.
I mean really. come on mod help these guys out.
They should not have to search the forums or make sensational posts to get this basic info.
daphoenixs d/d guide post may not be for some reason perfect but it convers all kinds of stuff and should help these guys.
because for some reason, people on these forums have a problem with looking for information and want it all handed to them. if someone can sit here and say “ele sucks”, then i know they have done nothing to research it. it is a very strong class but do not belong to the lazy.
i actually prefer it this way, maybe the people who do not want to learn will go back to WoW or something.
also, playing a class to lvl 31 doesn’t make you seasoned on the class. a 5 year old can level but learning how to play each class is soooooo much different that hitting any level (cap included)
everyone needs to quit making new threads asking for a build when there is a great thread with more information then they could possibly need no more than 5 posts below theirs
quit being so lazy!!!!!!!!!
….in other words, i agree with you 100%
that about sums it up, dont forget staff5 and have a ele combo finish it to apply chaos armor to everyone
i really hope they just leave scepter alone
i love it the way it is
now that GS is “broken”, people wanna complain about scepter…sigh
so power and precision dont affect a pure CD build at all?
this might be a question for another thread but is confusion affected by power, precision or both?
i am just trying out a few confusion builds to play around with and the gear question seems to be on everyones mind. will a glamour/confusion build benefit more from the carrion gear or the cursed shore stuff?
will power make confusion hit harder per stack or can confusion crit from precision?
if its neither, they need to make condition, toughness, vitality gear imo
nice, 200+ replies on the thread!!
i hope this is not too off topic for this thread, but have you tried any other professions osicat? i tend to play alts to a high enough level to understand the mechanics as it makes me better with my main. i was just wondering if you had done this as well and if so, which ones did you like?
@jacbo: i understand your point and it is valid. i wouldn’t even be upset about a slight adjustment such as a 4 second cast time making the countering a little easier on the defending team. i think the point im trying to make here is that lots of the community who dont want to be coordinated and play smarter think this is a grossly overpowered skill that is “ruining the game” and i just do not see it that way at all.
powerful, yes. game changer, yes if defended incorrectly. game ruining, no
first off i would like to point out that my main is a mesmer and i find it hard to play other classes, i just love the mechanics behind the class itself.
at first, i agreed here. i felt that it was overpowered and that it would be nerfed almost immediately. i very seldom feel overpowered but i didn’t even have the feeling that something bad was coming with a soon to be complained about patch. then it didn’t happen. at first i was confused but then i think i realized why.
in an organized group defending a camp next to a spawn in a recent wvw heavy night for me, i realized why i no longer feel this way. we were defending and saw a mesmer drop his first portal. he came down the hill and popped his invisibility skills and tried to throw a portal behind us. no more than 8 of us followed a very large purple disc on the ground and when a horde of people started showing on the screen, they were completely annihilated by mass aoe. we must have downed 30 players in the matter of seconds.
the point of this isn’t that its overpowered and needs to be nerfed to 5 or even 10 uses, its that people need to work together and learn how to counter it. if you look at it this way, its like rounding up a mass of player (the more the better) and putting them in one nice spot for the aoe to hit every one. imagine 5 players’ aoe and trying to live through it. not going to happen.
im not trying to give a huge L2P speech, but learn some coordination, teamwork, awareness and a little anticipation and this skill will just be another tool and not an OP skill worth a nerf
blink is really hard to not have (even though im trying a build now that does not use it)
i feel naked without it
i dont care for it since we already have that traited. giving them more health and another trait that we already have isn’t worth giving up a spot imo. but like osicat, ill always watch a vid of it
now if you felt the elasticity was more important and traited out of shatter recharge, it would make more sense but i just dont see what you would want to drop for it
(edited by Drederik.5679)
i use the AC weapons for power/tough/vit and run full berserker so i really dont need knight or valk gear but i may grab a few pieces with the CoF weapons just to get more crit
ahh, so you re saying throw in that n3 with no clones to hold them and maybe interupt. i like it.
learning to use n3 and n4 is a big part of this build.
any suggestions besides knight or valkyre to give you more defense?
first off, great videos and build. thanks for taking the time to do this for all the mesmers out there. i had a build like this a few months ago but switched it out to learn the ins and outs of the class and play with some of the other weapons and traits. coming back makes me more happy because there are others out there who are successful with this build type.
one thing i really learned from your last vid here is how to be smart with your shatters. you dont have to use them for a MW all the time. i have a really quick dps burst that i use but have recently stopped using it so much because your vid showed me that you just need to adjust you n1-n4 timing depending on situation.
i know you dont like decoy but i find that without any real traits or more than 2 defensive gear options, having the stealth can come in handy. blink is always a staple for me and mirror images is a must. so swapping out decoy for portal means i usually swap out mass illusion for time warp.
anyway, with decoy, this is my dps burst that i thought may be of use here. remember, it uses up a lot of your utility skills and takes a few attempts at using correctly.
pistol4, pistol3, dodge, pistol3(close space), sword2, n1, mirror images, decoy, n2
this can all be done in the matter of 5 or so seconds. right after the second pistol 3 you can pistol 5 if you need a stun or blink to get in melee for your pistol2. right after this bomb, i will usually switch to staff and drop staff5 and staff2 for the chaos armor and then drop out my staff3 and start the kiting game. with another dodge you got 3 back up and can use n3 or n4 as needed.
i like this combo and burst but i feel that it just leaves you wide open if your opponent can live through it but i still thought i would drop by and share it.
i had been running very very similar to osicat for some time and switched for a few weeks to GS/scepter/focus and then a confusion build and it makes me realize how much better i like the playstyle of the shatter build. i switched to get some perspective on the class and learn more about it. there are other viable builds, you just have to try as many out as possible and find one that makes sense to you. if it doesn’t, you will not enjoy it or be a great player.
on a side note, im glad osicat posted his shatter build because it is nice to know that other people were playing the build i started with and being very successful with it. he is quite a bit better at it than me though and its nice to see some great pointers on the videos he took the time to make
(edited by Drederik.5679)
the blurred frenzy at 5:49 kept him alive as he was out of endurance and probably used it for defensive purposes.
the rest i agree with
