My argument was against your point no2. If you lower the amount of points you need to get rank soon everyone will be r60+. Problem is like you said that you can earn rank points in hotjoins and they do not teach people how to play tournaments, therefore rank does not equal actual skill. I wouldn’t mind if rank points would be removed from hotjoins completely and just earned by tournaments but make it so that you earn more of them with each win as otherwise people loose interest completely. Right now grind from r40+ is just a massive pain.
When it comes to gain/lose rank points we have rating for that and leaderboards, I understand that it is very unstable atm and matchmaking is not working perfectly (I stopped playing tournaments due do AFKers, Leavers and r1-r10 people with r30/40+ team) but I do strongly hope it will get better in time.
As for ideas how to improve it:
1) Implement obligatory extensive tutorial before people can join tournaments.
2) Add beginners tournaments for ranks 1-10.
3) People can join regular tournaments only after r10.
4) Do not change ratings for people until they reach r10 (hopefully that would remove the issue with matchmaking where people r1+ get few wins and are matched against r30+)
5) Remove rank points from hotjoins.
6) Increase the amount of rank points from tournament consecutive wins.
Do you know that in Guild Wars 1 it took years for people to reach rank 15 which I believe was max? And then only like 10 people had it, maybe not even that. I know it’s a very long grind to the top but would you prefer to have hundreds of r80 running around? The way it is now only the most dedicated players will ever reach that.
As for losing rank points when you lose a game – we have rating for that and leaderboards, fair enough there is a small mess atm there but I guess it will get better in time.
Don’t get me wrong I would love for them to improve it and improve rewards for gaining rank. I remember years back in GW1 after some time they added different ranks for GvG and separated them from Hall of Heroes/Heroes Ascent. Maybe something like that would be better.
Maybe something like in tournaments for each win in a row you get more and more rank points? Let’s say 200 for first and then 200 extra for each consecutive win until let’s say 1000 max? I know that this is a big nod towards premade teams as they could have a very long winning streak.

I’m so tired of the cry babies complaining about every single class being op. Ele op, thief op, ranger op, engie op, mesmer op, now they will buff the warrior and necro and people will cry that they need to be nerfed again. Seriously Anet please give every single class god kitten pointy sticks from Super Adv Box, no chance to crit and the damage of 100! I bet that will be super exciting…
Rangers roll over mesmers, Necros eat us away with conditions same for Engies. Also considering that we wear light armor and Zerker amulets one mistake means we get downed in few seconds. If every single class was the same how boring that would be, well maybe then don’t make classes at all just one base class and that’s it.
I’m all for bug fixes to all classes and for balance, but due to game mechanics where everyone is building towards max dps that will probably never happen. Someone will always cry about something being wrong. I just hope Anet won’t listen to all those people that cry about everything and just use their own judgement and own observations. Cause if it would depend on all those people posting here every class would be nerfed to the ground except the one they play.

I’ve managed to complete Fractals lvl 1-2 being on lvl 38-39 with 2 friends and 2 pugs. There were 2 lvl 80, one 60 and one 50. All of us doing it for the first time. We didn’t have too much trouble, we did die and we got wiped once when we lost our way underwater. I can’t say about other people gear but mine was green/blue nothing special. Also the classes were completely random we didn’t ask anyone special, we just wanted to get someone to play and it turned out great.
After my original party disbanded I wanted to play more, so I was waiting until someone was looking for a party member. I did join and got kicked out straight away why? Cause the character I wanted to play as wasn’t lvl 80. When I said to who ever invited me that it doesn’t matter, I received a reply that im a noob and don’t know how to play. How can they actually know how do I play if nobody will give me a chance? The same applies to other people without lvl, class or gear.
I understand your complaint about people being unable to learn the mechanics of it and failing all the time, but that’s a problem with people you choose. Give chance to everyone not only exotic 80s. Maybe you will get someone good, if not you always have option to kick and get someone new.
The gear argument is not completely correct. You don’t need ascended gear for lower lvls, you will need it later on but you don’t need it straight away. I’m assuming from your post that you didn’t manage to complete lower lvls, why do you care about gear?
Also you asking for someone who has to be lvl80 and this and this class and this and this gear is just plain wrong. Everyone is getting upscaled to lvl 80 when you enter the dungeon, and ok maybe it’s not as good as full exotic armor set and maybe some people are missing traits, but in the end of the day all that won’t make any difference cause if they suck those few points and traits wont save them or you.
And just to let you know I’ve been playing GW1 since lunch and was in top50 guilds, started to play GW2 on lunch as well.
Ps. If you cant find any good people to play worse case change server, its still for free.
On retinaMBP running in Lions Arch noticed 6-15fps difference. Settings all on high except shadows on medium and reflections turned off.
