I think it is a bit silly to have the main reward for PvP be completely aesthetic and then make you unable to wear it anywhere else but the 5ft x 5ft PvP lobby where everyone is either AFK or staring at a merchant.
If I could just show my gear outside of combat (Like town gear) in PvE areas so that I can sit around Divinities Reach and show it off it would make the idea of grinding mykitten off in sPvP a lot more appealing.
So this struck me last night when me and my group were trying to defeat a boss in explorable CoF, we’d been doing speed runs for a while and thought just for fun we’d see what the other 2 routes were like.
When we hit the final boss (I think, named Legendary Searing Effigy) and we struggled and struggled with it but couldn’t find a way to down it and after a bit of digging online I found out that basically people were just nuking it as hard as they could, using poisons to reduce his healing and (Eventually) killing him. The problem we had was that we didn’t have enough damage to out do his healing (We had 2/5 members running support style builds rather than pure DPS) so we got him to about 1/5th hp and he stuck there for a long long time until we gave up and backed off.
I was under the impression that dungeons were supposed to be doable with any group combination? So that groups wouldn’t need specific classes or specs (Tank, healer, DPS) to start playing.
My worry is that Anet have focused too much on allowing DPS to function without tanks or healers, that actually being a support spec will sometimes mean your team can’t progress because of lack of damage and thus make you undesirable.
If Anet want us to be able to take 5 DPS through to a dungeon and, despite a possible struggle, still manage to complete it. Surely its not too much to ask for us to be able to take a much more defensive combination and still be able to complete the dungeon? In the example I gave there is no way possible for a group like the one we had to complete the encounter, no matter our gear or strategy, its a pure DPS race. This seems to me to be very counter productive given what Anet have stated as their goal for dungeons.
TL:DR – Having too much support can make it impossible for your group to progress, even at a slower pace. In the example you are limited to taking 1 support at most, to be able to complete the encounter, I don’t think this is how it should work.
Whaaat… That kitten sucks if its true! You mean I have to level 2 professions to 400 as well as farming all these matts?!
I wish I’d have done more research before levelling armorsmithing over weaponsmithing now >.>
-LOL just realised that it uses the word ‘kitten’ as a censor… I wondered why people were saying kitten all the time on these forums
It was between Mesmer and Guardian for me, because I mained Mesmer in GW1 so I felt attached to the class, but the only reason I mained Mesmer back then was because there was no holy warrior class
(W/Mo does NOT count!)
In everything else I play I always pick the holy warrior/paladin/knight/yougettheidea and once I had tried them both out on GW2 I was pretty quick to realize that I would be sticking to my favourite archetype once again
Its not their elite skill its their class specific ability, like our virtues
Isn’t their elite skill called Lich Form like that?
No their Lich Form is exactly like our tomes, gives them bonus hp and 5 new skills
That’s interesting to know.
Thinking about it, if renewed focus was not an elite skill and had the same recharge etc, I wouldn’t even put it on my utility bar.
Neither me, I didn’t even consider it for a long time because the tomes looked so much better, and I was assuming you could run around and attack/cast during the invincibility. When I found out that it basically stuns you for the duration I completely forgot about it.

So it works like thorns from WoW? It does not reflect, just strikes the attacker with additional dmg.
Yes
Sanctuary used to be an elite skill like you suggested but they changed it to what you see now.
I like the concept of the tomes but I feel defenseless while using one, if they let us use our utility skills during tomes it would be great imo
Like Necromancers elite skill.
Its not their elite skill its their class specific ability, like our virtues

Hey guys,
I’ve been toying with the idea of swapping my 1h Sword/Shield setup out for a Mace/Shield setup so that I can better support my allies, but I notice that noone ever talks about the Mace in their builds or in terms of balance, not that I’ve found anyway.
Does anyone use the mace? If so, why, if not, why not?
Thanks for your help
I also run a shout based support build in my 5 man dungeons and it is frustrating to only be able to buff the melee members or the ranged members, its extremely rare that everyone gets the buff from my shouts purely due to the amount of dodging and maneuvering that everyone needs to do in dungeons to stay alive.
Anet could at least change the title to “Says” to differentiate them from the 1200 range shouts the warriors get :P
Level 26ish. Post my lvl 80 pics later
+1 for moody lighting
At work atm but i’ll use this post as a place holder for when I get back
Although come to think of it I hate my current look atm :-/ Its that level 80 masterwork crafted set, looks like a barbarian/gladiator setup, not my style at all.
Guardians did lose stability on both their tome elites too, similar to the engi nerf
-Oki sorry

Story Mode of dungeons are actually pretty easy.
QFT, if you want the lore just do the story mode dungeons, explorable mode is not intended for casual PUGs.
Fun. You play PvP for fun. All else is secondary.
Perhaps YOU play just for fun, a lot of people, myself included, need to feel a sense of progression and reward as well as fun from our games :P
Guild Wars DOESN’T get tougher than this!
This is not a suggestions forum…
I’m not suggesting anything
1) A ranked system
2) Pugs and Premades should be able to face each others
3) Spectator mode
4) Balance
5) Duels
Yesterday I was fighting for a minute or so in an event on my Mesmer and didn’t get squat for it so count your stars my friend ._.
Hey guys,
I’ve been playing PvP for a long time now and its usually the main focus of my gameplay, this time around I thought I won’t jump into the PvP until I’m max level because it will give me the experience I need with my class without letting people down in games because I don’t know what I’m doing.
Now that I am 80 I have found myself asking: Why should I PvP? With the other 2 major games in my life, WoW and LoL, I have had decent incentives to compete. In WoW it was stronger, better looking gear, a rating and titles, in LoL it was a nice shiny badge next to my name on forums, a rating and some exclusive content to high ranked players.
As far as I’m aware (Please correct me on this) the only thing you get in GW2 is better looking gear, and I’m looking for more incentive to compete than that, could you please explain the PvP reward system to me? Or point me to somewhere that does so concisely and simply?
Thanks for all your help
TL:DR What rewards are there for competing in high level PvP? E.g Rating, Titles, Pets, anything at all.
I rather see they implement a 1vs1 arena type deatmatch thing, whoever wins first from xx rounds wins.Where players can actually test their skill and earn some glory.
I would love duels implemented, but nothing like this. As people have said the game is not meant to be balanced 1v1 and giving rewards for winning 1v1 combat will be exploited like crazy.
I would also like to be able to zoom out more
I like the scaling, it allows me as a guild master to organize groups for any dungeon and take any guild members along with me, despite some being high or max levels, and it will still be worth their while to come gear and money wise, without them carrying the team. It just lets us all play together a lot more easily.
the hounds is a racial skill and isn’t that great. all racial skills are for looks. they probably do the same damage however i know that the theives pull and blind ur foe.
QFT
Racial elites are supposed to be aesthetic and intentionally weaker than profession elites, for balance purposes
I use clones in PvP to confuse others and avoid damage while my other damage/avoidance cooldowns are up, because you actually get a very small stealth whenever you summon a clone, unless your target has a large amount of AoE, you can escape a lot of punishment and confuse the hell out of the enemy to boot. The trick is to keep them alive long enough to confuse, but detonate them before they die to get the maximum potential from them.
Because the aggro system is so erratic in GW2, even if you did have someone who was specced and geared to take a lot more punishment than other members of the team. They couldn’t “Tank” in the same way that you’re used to in other MMO’s, they can’t sit there and take all the damage simply because the mobs will get bored of them and move onto other members of the team.
I’ve done a lot of instances with no soldier classes and its not a big problem as long as people don’t stand in red circles the whole time. What does make instances easier is having a dedicated “Support” style player, meaning a player who spends his entire time buffing, healing, CCing, protecting and/or reviving downed players during encounters. This allows your team to make more mistakes and not wipe as a result, as I said it makes encounters easier, but is in no way a requirement.
Hope this helps
if anyone’s interested this is what the lvl 80 crafted heavy armor exotic set looks like…plus my current stats in it.

That second set looks like it would be really good in PvP :P
I would love something like this, anything to make it more convenient to get into the guild bank. Our bank has been open for days now but noone uses it because its just too much hassle to go to the NPC and deposit/withdraw.
+1
I run a very tanky build, mainly using Hammer/Sword+Shield and swapping major traits around for either a support build using shouts for when I’m doing dungeons, or a meditation build for when I’m doing stuff on my own or in the world.
I love guardian in that I can effectively protect my allies with a lot of CC and buffs/heals, while still being tanky myself and dealing a good amount of damage.
One major flaw with guardians and my build in particular is the lack of ranged options. Even if you equip a scepter or a staff you trade a lot of damage for utility, meaning a ranged DPS guardian is just not an option, wheras it is with any other class. If there is an encounter where you can’t get in close for a set amount of time then you kind of have to just stand back and watch or help in some other way because you will be completely overshadowed in damage output.
Edit: My build is 0/0/30/30/10, mainly focused on supporting and boosting my allies while keeping me alive and sturdy so that I can resurrect allies/throw myself into danger to help them, without worrying about dying

Gonna try this when I get home, thanks for the tip
Quick edit: I’ve got 8gb ram, i5 3450 3.1ghz, gtx 560ti, you think the change will help me a great deal?

Not the highest priority bug right here but it does really annoy me that “Hold The Line” is the only guardian shout that has no actual shout sound to accompany it.
Every other shout actually shouts the name when cast, except this one.
Maybe its just me, has anyone else noticed this?
I also can’t detonate, haven’t tried it in PvP though.
I haven’t been able to detonate ever throughout the betas and stress tests either.
This isn’t a bug, this is you moaning. Please put it on your blog not on the support forums.
