I am Super Down for a griffon pet, swoops bleeds, tramples, screeches…yeah i strongly suggest one. Sure it would be a bit tanky, but i was thinking more damage with big movement attacks…tanky in the sense that it would evade alot but because of its size and talons hit would be a more high damage hitter and not critty like the other birds.
Oh and on that 4 skill the fall back and advance would that just move the player back and forth or would they move them also applying buffs like shouts would…like swiftness or vigor?
Well as I mentioned. Spear and shield is one of my favouite weapon styles. it could be called Lance but to be fair. Spear should not be an underwater thing, that should be called a harpoon.
and I did mention that it would be for other classes, I was just too lazy think up class specific stuff.

Spear and shield sounds cool but how long would that stance on your 4 skill last or would it be indefinite and it would change skill 5 to the break stance? its a cool idea but i more afraid of it getting used against me and people forming the turtle and moving through maps (WvW) in a barely damageable by melee zerg that is slow but effective…
So since downed state will never get removed, here are my thoughts on what needs to change about it.
1. You should not be able to use any skills in downed state, only the number 4 heal ability, nothing else.
2. Remove the short invulnerability when you go down.
3. have 50% less HP in downed state. Or have a maximum of 500 defense in downed state, no matter what your traits are or what gear you have.Edit: This is from a World vs World perspective not PvE or Spvp
Ok, by you don’t like the mechanics you mean you don’t like when you go down cause you only want to be able to heal yourself, or are you supper annoyed about when you get people down, while in their down state they can be hard to kill because of their gear and thus are able to get you down and you rather just be able to focus on the mass of other players (WvW) that may be around when down so you don’t have to focus on the extra little damage they are doing to you while down?
I ask because in the second part i would agree (not that i down players often, im not exceptionally good at any sort of PvP including WvW and i don’t hate the mechanic cause its saved me) because i feel like crap when i down them and then they down me and we have a downed fight and i lose. But most of that is because i wont rush up and finish so its my fault.
Now i’m not getting on you or anything but simply saying I DONT LIKE THE MECHANIC doesn’t really help someone like me (who doesn’t mind the system) understand the flaws you see in it…All you really said was players shouldn’t be able to deal damage while down, what the player has on shouldn’t apply to him/her while down, players should have less Vitality while down or have toughness limited while down. And you justified it with…JUST CAUSE…
Soooo that all being said with what i inferred; 1: you don’t want to do anything else except heal yourself while downed, my solution…only use the 4 key when you go down. 2: Other players down you while they are down and you cant stand it, my solution…finish them, or heal yourself before you finish them, or just leave them on the ground and continue with whatever you want to do.
As for the invul. I’m guessing that was put in place because before one of the patches while you were falling down into the down state damage was still being dealt to you and you would die by the end of the animation ( in best cases have a few secs to spare) which was superbly more annoying than…this.
Ohhhhhhh…Ok well i like this but may i suggest the spear just be a two handed…
Skills
1: Stab>Jab>Sweep(quick KD on crippled targets) or Chop(causing vul.) [im thinking something polearm-ish]
2:Assault
3:Javelin Throw (throw spear and Bleed and Immobile){like pin down (LongBow)}
4:Charge (Rush at target and Stab them giving Vigor or Switfness)
5:Counter(block next attack duration Xseconds, if hit counter with KB)> Spear Throw (while during blocking duration, decide instead to throw spear bleeding or crippling target)
The ____ or ____ is for balancing issues not, if it hits it can do this or that…Also i wouldnt name it spear because of confusions with the underwater wep. it can be javelin or polearm or idk just not spear.
Skills were also for warrior, i think this weapon would work well with other proff such as guardian, and ranger. Though i would have to think more about a skill set.
A ranger skill could be Serpents Spear(really cliche maybe serpent’s flight or w/e) where he/she would throw the spear an it would have one of those spirit snakes around it when thrown obviously poisoning if it hits.
Another would be like a trap on the 5 skill (slower recharge) which would put up a field (the fancy rectangle ones) that would (similar to wall of warding) cripple enemies that went through it…maybe not a trap but a visual wall of spears that the ranger would throw down….weirder things have happened [insert things you watch on the internet here]…maybe that would work…maybe…
btw 100b bar? looked it up on google didn’t find much but batteries o_O

I want to give some oils to party members but don’t want to give one the whole lot, 1 to member A 1 to member B and so on…
I don’t want to say what everyone is saying in this thread that Elonians wont be there own race but it is true. As far as them getting into the game or Elona being a zone we can get to in the game, i predict it will happen. How it will happen we can only speculate but I would a assume that someone will say “Hey, lets form a party and get to Elona through Ebonhawk.” It’s possible since the text of the guards at the gate suggest that it (the gate) can be opened with proper permission. Kalkatorrik may be one reason for this to happen, but i don’t think Tyrians would just simply decide that Kalka (way in the Crystal Desert) is a immediate threat as opposed to the dragons that are still in Tyria, (Idk how many dragons if any are bested in the game i haven’t got to level 80 yet).
While talking about other continents i think it maybe possible that we could hear from another continent (other than Cantha or Elona) because i don’t remember reading that Tyria (planet) only had 3 continents.
So Elonians as a separate “Race” no, maybe if they come into the game we could get the option if creating a new human to have a starting city in Elona (same for other races) or maybe we will get just new professions and more zones. I cant recall wheter there were other “Races” lived in Elona (apart from humans). I am however, interested in how AN will introduce this to us, or even if there is any Elona left (it is possible Kalka went to Elona and decided that Elona would not be a fortunate as Tyria (continent) was/is.
I recently Tried in Tixx, it works for me more than 50% of the time a lot more like 90% but when it doesn’t work is in the most ridiculous situations, which starts with a bit of rage and ends with laughter.
For example once i was downed after i killed opponent, i didnt use 4 because i didnt want to interrupt it with 3 (plus pretty high death penalty) once i hit 3 my bear ran up to me but stood there….just watching me as i yelled WHAT ARE YOU DOING while holding 4 which made it look like i was holding my hand out to and unsympathetic bear who did care if i died or not.
While on the subject of this…can i please have the ability to revive my pet back during combat…please…i mean just cause why not…i dont know why it was taken out (stopped playing for awhile) but it would be cool if i had it back
Honestly, I’ve talked quite a bit about liking the ranger melee and it is fantastic. Though i enjoy the concept of the sword, keeping me mobile while dealing decent damage, through playing with it for a little did prove to bind me up when dealing with multiple enemies.
The sword is nice but I’m sure i am not the only one who as been trapped in the main attack combo or had pounce launch you over the enemy, and yess i did have melee assist on, so for me my favorite ranger melee is the great sword mainly because of its ease of use.
using the axe is still ranger, as a matter of fact you can do everything you need with the axe at a nice distance so the ranger only has 2 real melee weapons for the main hand (Greatsword and Sword) so with that said i would suggest another melee weapon that doesn’t bind you up on one side of the enemy without you having to stop attacking, cause we all like to deal that damage. My suggestion is dagger on main hand (yes dagger/dagger is bound to happen) but it would add 5 different skills that may do less damage but be fun to use.
So as for my build, I’m not currently lvl80 but i use the great sword, trait
with the faster cool downs and also have the vigor on heal thing with the healing spring, this will let you dodge quite a bit and with the evade every 3rd attack, and the stun/daze if your fast enough should help you avoid enough damage from the vet monsters. Other than GS ill use LB (of course) to try to get those 20 stacks of vul on the mobs (opening strike me+ opening strike pet+ Hunter’s Shot) and switch into the GS (gives swiftness if traited) close distance (Swoop) have pet cast confusion (Reef Drake F2) pop heal when needed ( gives vigor) wild signet (You+Pet get bigger if traited and do more damage) dodge stun hit and if need pop elite (rampage) and there you’ll be doing a decent amount of damage but vul would have worn out by this time.
It isnt 100% success but i like it in PVE just cause it looks cool =D

Hmm i guess i should say what Pets i use,
my current set is Pidgey (Eagle) and Houndoom (Drakehound) in the water its Snorlax (Brown Bear) and Golden (Armourfish)
I love my ranger also, I just dont feel very powerful when I compare it to other classes. Just to do compareable damage I have to use raven, thats only to make me come close to other classes damage using the same setup. Id love to use wolf and have it hit as hard as a raven. Or a drake and have it actually use its attacks. Once they fix the bugs, I think ranger would be amazing, I still wish they would take alot of the dps away from pets and add it to the ranger weapon skills, but thats just wishful thinking.
I’m not max level but i often find myself relying on my pets when I’m dying, I guess the ranger may do less damage than other classes. I just played a bit and decided today i would use the Longbow (as always cause i love it) and the sword and dagger.
Yeah the ranger may not be the best at giving damage but it can sure easily evade it without using endurance. With the sword and dagger combo i found that i had 3 skills that moved me out of the way of damage and one of those will get me out of most AoE range.
I wont try to bash too many people cause i have no intention but instead of saying WHY CANT I HIT 20K DAMAGE IN ONE CRIT one should think how am i gonna ensure that i do that 20K before my target gets in decent range.
Now i know thats though trust me I KNOW
but The Ranger is unlike any other class its different and it was built to be played different. if you compare yourself to all the other classes your gonna find alot that the Ranger does sub-par, except Range lol but thats just my opinion. Also i never used a Raven i should try it out as soon as i get to the Norn area.

Hey, well I began browsing the forums just for the fun of it and since I play Ranger I decided to look in here and happened to read the hoopla about the Ranger. So I decided to start a thread not particularly to bash the ranger class or talk it up but to analyze it. Now coming from someone who played Ranger in Guild Wars the Ranger in Guild Wars 2 is a vast improvement, as is everything else. Would I like to see changes come to the Ranger? Yes. Am I content with how the Ranger Currently plays? Also Yes.
When I read the description for the ranger I pretty much got what I expected. The Ranger for me had been viable in every situation and didn’t disappoint me. I didn’t expect large damage numbers and often Crits with ultimate power over the battlefield with my medium armor, bow, and companion; what I did look forward to is not being overlooked and being able to switch roles with out switching builds. Having the option to kind of be someone one out there.
Now that I’ve mentioned builds yes I will say the Ranger’s skill set is lacking. Now I know that there are some of you who can’t stand fighting the Ranger one on one and I know this because I’ve seen several people just give up when I get a hold of them in WvW, not saying that I am the ultimate force because I’ve spent my fair share of coin reviving to waypoints. But It would be wrong to say the ranger is useless when going against other players because I’ve taken at least 5 of each of the other professions down in a fight (seeing as I don’t do very much PvP I feel that’s pretty good) and I also know I do not go unnoticed in group on group fights.
The Ranger allows me to be more well rounded again being the jack of ,if not all, several trades while having fun. Now I know I did say the class could use some changing, so here I go, now don’t take what I say as gold it isn’t and its mostly me being selfish.
Now for those of you who may have played GW1 as a ranger you may remember the skills that allowed your attacks to also poison, bleed, etc. Foes, I believe they were called preparations, for those of you who didn’t play, its like sharpening stones but there were more that allowed you to even ignite arrows. I thinks those should come back. Yes I like to occasionally cause bleeding to a large number of enemies with Sharpening Stones + Barrage but why stop there I want to burn them and poison them (and no Sun spirit isn’t enough).
Also the spirits…I like that they will follow you for the allowed time (traited) but I think it would be cool if they stuck around till someone killed them. Yeah that would put a skill into constant limbo until you used your spirits skill or someone decides to do the 3 or 4 hits needed to banish it back to the spirit realm ( whyyyyyyyyy
), but if the ranger is one with nature then nature should be one with the ranger and not mind sticking around.
Hmm what else…more pets, I know we just got the reef drake but I go around tyria and see these Griffins and just wish there was a juvenile one hiding some where waiting to be charmed.
While on the subject of pets I think my pets should care about me more…I can’t control em while I’m downed ( other than lick wounds) but when and I have that opponent near me that is also going to die or one rolfstomping me Snorlax (my bear) should at least attempt to rescue me, he probably does I just don’t notice but what I do notice is when I tell him to lick wounds often he will just stand over my body (as if he cares) where’s the loyalty…
Personally I like the Ranger,I like it not being super flashy while still being able to control the battlefield a bit. I like scouting areas in WvW and being able to get away without getting caught. Yes as I said before something’s can be tweaked and added but only “When its ready” there’s more to say but I’m typing on my phone on my way from class so I may expand before I get on tonight. But I am open to whatever questions you all may have and your thoughts on the ranger. If I don’t expand tonight I will tomorrow. Thank you for reading what I’ve put so far bye for now.
