I would think it would look extremely strange to remove it and stop/start running in a stiff manner as OP suggests. It’s not how it happens in real life and it would look unnatural to do it in the game. When you are running and stop abruptly, either you take another step to keep your balance or your upper body sways a bit as momentum keeps it moving forward while the feet are stopped.
at last they can modify the effect to make it end faster, its very negative feeling for a new player to take the hands off from the keyboard and to see that your character is still moving
i play games since 1999, all kind of games and always the first thing i analyze when i open a game is the movment, in this case is definetly negative, for example in guildwars 1 the movment was
more smooth, there were no effect animation when you stop moving, this animation from my point of view, make many ppl to look bad at guildwars2
for the ppl who say “that animation cant be removed”, it can be removed or edited, in Aion for example, ncsoft edited the player movment, they modified the running and the character moving style
look guildwars1 character how it moves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62k86wctO9M
i know they wanted to make it nicer and all that, but that just complicated the game play and is rly not nice, simple things are always better than complicated things
You’re the only person I’ve ever seen complain about this on the forums.
I don’t think the engine even supports DX11. That would require a massive rewrite and then a kitten ton of testing.
Whenever I go inside Black Citadel, my FPS drop to a screeching halt. It’s not just that though. Even if I WP out of there and go somewhere else it remains that way. My whole computer screeches to a halt. Everything is slow and almost unresponsive. When I close GW2, everything returns back to normal. If I go back into GW2 on any other map everything is fine as it should be. I tried several times and the culprit seems to be Black Citadel. Keep in mind this has never happened to be me before. I haven’t made any driver changes or hardware changes in the past few months. It happens at random and only in Black Citadel. Also, it doesn’t happen in other games.
Here are my Settings.

You’re a funny guy. We’ve been asking for new dungeons for a while. We got a few paths but that’s about it. Sometimes it feels like they completely abandoned PvE and PvP for the Living Story and eSports. Who knows, rumor is they have something big planned that’s being worked on.

Edit: Nvm. I see the patch notes.

No mounts please. They really are not needed this in game.
We already have a mount in this game. So any excuse they give us is automatically invalidated by this.

Jesus Christ, Chris already posted in this thread….
Well some users aren’t satisfied with “We’re busy with China. Come back later”
So were coming on two weeks after feature patch
They spent four weeks building up to the Feature Pack. Another two isn’t going to kill you.
A small announcement won’t kill them. We don’t need a patch right now, just some communication.
When you’re bored of the game.
OP has very good and valid points. If there is one thing that ANet has done very well as far as I’m concerned, over the last 3 years – it’s that they always have something up their sleeve. Why are we getting this big QoL/Feature update anyways? I ask myself.
As an IT with almost a decade in project management experience, I have to say that what I see this patch as is an “infrastructure upgrade”. ‘Best Practice’ is ALWAYS to make sure your infrastructure is up to date and can handle increased traffic before you roll-out ‘The new stuff’. Feature patch is just a stepping stone. There is an expansion around the corner, just biding its time for an official announcement.
When that announcement finally comes, I’m sure the hype-train, word-of-mouth from users, and the inevitible “let’s take it to market” approach will finally re-kick in for ANet.
TLDR: Don’t think of their low marketing as a sign of failure, think of it as the calm before the storm.
Are you implying that this is a thinly veiled infrastructure update to make way for new players due to a yet unannounced content update? ;-)
Sounds interesting. Gotta try that.
I actually want to see a group beat him on land. He’s ridiculously OP. Everyone always brags about beating Lupi, but that’s cake. Let’s see a party beat the P3 final Boss outside of the water.

Luring it up and FGSing?
You don’t want to lure him on land. He will obliterate you if you do since his attacks changed and he’ll wipe your whole party
Well first let’s clear something up. Those aren’t Raid bosses.
There’s a very simple way of of killing the P3 final boss. Just requires some thinking outside the box.
People will always find the path of least resistance. Skipping mobs that give trash rewards, using combo fields, this is it.
Instead of complaining about not having features I’ll just post somethings I would love to see added.
The rewards tracks they added for spvp? Something like that for maps in PvE. The more events you do or champions you kill it fills a progression bar which unlocks rewards. Maybe crafting mats. Maybe a skin. Something. It will give us a reason to visit maps.
Random Legendary boss spawns in all maps with maybe an unique Armor Set or some kind of reward.
A bounty system outside of the Guild One for parties. Not solo, It has to be parties. Maybe add tokens and a store to buy things.
Some Life Sim things. Fishing, maybe farming. People do like doing these things. This is an MMO, let’s add MMO features. Maybe add Cooking 500 along with this and fishing and Farming will be integral to it. Maybe a fishing tournament every month with unique titles and rewards.
A Queen’s Gauntlet coliseum type thing. Single or Party with Leaderboards.
This game has so much potential and it saddens me when it remains untapped. The game made 115.9 Million USD for 2013. Let’s put some of those funds to good use.
It doesn’t need to be nerfed. Other builds need to be made viable and useful. No reason to punish Zerker players. Give us situations and enemy types that can better be completed with other builds. If the answer to most situations is “Go Zerker” then the issue isn’t the class it’s the overall design.

It’s possible that we could go to something more like 1 minute duration, 5 minute cooldown, but that’s getting back into re-balancing the item. With a re-balance we stand to raise equal or more controversy.
No. Nothing is going to cause more controversy than what has been done already. I don’t know if you have personally ever used them but they don’t last very long in battle.
30 minutes is absurd.
I hope Arenanet remembers that this content was not meant for disorganized pugs to complete and is meant for people who can organize and do things like Liadri or Tribulation mode. I just don’t want them to nerf it.
You’re joking right? Neither of those things require Organization. TM is pure trial and error and memorizing where traps are.
Liadri was 1v1 and simply required knowing your class and her move set.
I want to know if ANet devs beat Tequatl during internal testing.
It could be because of this.

Scarlet is the equivalent of a Cobra operative.
An entire map solely for naval combat. I would love to see this in the future.
Put a Legendary Boss in every map. Make it a grand event chain.
Ramin Shokrizade, the well known virtual economist, recently took a long look at GW2’s endgame economy and found issues with it and ultimately felt it’s very broken.
Here are some highlights.
Coin is scarce, which is good as it makes the primary currency economy tight. This is essential because the game hosts charge about $1.25 per 100 gems, and players can trade gems for coins with each other. The hosts take a cut of all such transactions, which is about 15%. This acts as a money sink on the economy. Since Experience is almost valueless, but coin is extremely valuable, wealth is the primary achievement metric in the game. Being able to purchase this metric makes the game somewhat “pay to win” as the primary game objects are for sale.
With the exception of craft materials, the pre-endgame item economy is broken. As an example, I can buy a L39 coat of green (good, better than blue) quality level for 112 copper coins on the auction house. This is not a rare low sell. As I look at the auction house there are over 1000 items of this type selling at this price. I can sell the same item to a vendor for 111 copper coins. Over 1000 players took the time to sell this item on the auction house at a premium of 1 copper coin over what any npc vendor would pay them. Given that the auction house charges 5%, these players are actually losing at least 4% of the value of their goods by joining the economy. Goods are so badly flooded that it is much cheaper to just sell your equipment and buy new equipment instead of repairing it when it gets damaged.
The item economy is so bad that essentially all items of white, blue, and green quality are junk items. There is a “sell junk” button that lets you sell all items that have no game use. If this button sold all white, blue, and green quality items (which was all the items I encountered up to L64) with one click, this would have been more useful. The only items I encountered as loot that were not junk were those related to craft activity.
Thus the item economy would have been improved if all players automatically got free gear upgrades every 5 or 10 levels and all of those white, blue, and green junk items were just never itemized as loot at all. Any excitement the player feels about loot drops very quickly fades in such an environment, and it all just becomes a pointless loot gathering exercise. In other words, the item economy would have been better if it had been removed.
Thus the pre-endgame item economy in GW2 is one of the worst I have studied in the last 14 years. This acts to further undermine the crafting professions since what is the point of investing heavily in craft skills when you can buy items of similar quality on the auction house for 10% of what it would cost for you to make that item? For the cost of crafting one L20 green con weapon (just the weapon, not the skill to get that craft level) I was able to buy an entire set of green con L35 gear including all armor slots and a two handed weapon.
Anyone agree? Disagree? What are your thoughts on this matter and how can this be remedied?
