CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

Hello

Im going to be pretty short on this one. Anyway, there is plenty of ways of adding stuff as a reward without turning the game into gear treadmill, like all others MMOs – in short “to stick to your roots”. Here are couple of my ideas:

  • REVAMP skill system. It is somewhat too fast to have all weapon skills, for ex., unlocked at level 10 and to have access to elite skills at level 30 (both, which arent even at first half of levels). Make higher level requirement for those. Make more skill points required for Elite skills.
In addition, do like you did with GW. Make some more unique skills or, perhaps, skill skins that player HAVE to aquire with missions/quests/dungeons. It adds up to immersion, by boundind specific skill to certain task that player have completed. Also, adds up to the feeling of reward, which brings me to my next point
  • Add more unique weapons/drops involved at doing specific event or dungeon. Of course, drop chance doesnt have necessarilly to be 70%+. Make it drops more rarely, so that player will definatelly have the feel of accomplishment.
  • Add also more dungeons or new paths to already existing ones. Instead of adding “living story” all the time with the new update, make some “new area update” with new dungeon at that area, that would have its story mode and its new 3 unique paths. In addition, those new armor/weapon sets DONT HAVE TO BE increased in stats, in comparison to older ones. Just make them looks cool and unique (which is the main goal for the game in the first place).
  • Bring back token farming system from dungeons like it was, back at initial launch. I havent seen anything wrong with 10 item tokens gained per path daily. Why someone, at some point, two weeks after launch, decided that it is cool to increase drops by 200% i dont know. It made gaining of items super easy and lowered the feel of reward. Which, again, brings me to the next point.
  • Super-grind (Vindictus, Lineage II etc.) is not okay, which is the goal of GW2, but neither is get-everything-in-a-week. Find a ‘sweet spot’ somewhere in between. Make players try harder, to get specific reward (which many points above would add up to, however). That would make players play longer your game, plus it adds up to feeling of getting reward.
  • All those things from above need not to be applied to 80th and to 80th level only. Make players more bussier, both while leveling and while they got to the max level.

I am hoping that someone from Arena.net will read this and take some of these ideas into consideration. Thank you in advance,

Dzoni

Lev 5 and already tired of waiting for a group then doing the same dungeons over and over and over etc …
I’d like to go explore but i know that if i don’t do this now it will be much harder to find groups in the future and as i know Agony will be part of all future content it will be needed…
I juat wish they released the items with more ways to get other than gring for hours in the same dungeon.. :-(
Not happy

Its the nature of the “Hamster wheel” gear progression. And yes, future content will consist of “new fractal parts” so, yea you will be needed agony.
As for not running FotM all the time, if you take a break you will fall of the train. I entered today after a week and i couldnt find anyone doing level 1-6 anymore, so i failed to find group. So yea, welcome to new and future content, as demanded from “Guild Wars 2 players”.

Sad but true

Not all new content is going to be utilizing Agony. The dungeon has been very obviously designed around adding new fractals, which will use agony, new world zones, and whatnot will not use agony. You only fall off the train if you want to run the fractals. Anything else, Ascended doesn’t mean anything. Even the stats increase, its so small, you don’t even notice a difference.

Now that they added infusions I am sure that they will come up with all sorts of stupid little conditions the we will need the gear for. I sure do miss the vanilla GW2 when all I had to do was get the gear that I thought looked cool , it was a good couple of months I guess.

Agree with this… Why they couldnt add another Story/Explorable mod dungeon like the Vanilla ones, just with new exotic sets? It is slim chance that it will happen in future, especially with ascended gear. Plus they announced “new fractal coming in future updates” :P

It goes against a lot of Anet’s philosophies.
-RNG item drop on extremely important items
-RNG drop chance for ascended gear (and it’s the only way to get the rings)
-Community gating mechanic (fractal levels)
-gear gating mechanic (agony)

It is a pretty big slap in the face now that I’ve looked it in the eyes.

Normal player.. tons of hours..

I have a wife, kids and a job.. could not log in until tonight does to my daughter having her confirmation.. you know REAL life..

My 80 mesmer could not get a group for the new dungeon.. Everyone had to be level 7 or some odd crap to do it….

72 hours out of the loop and ZERO chance to get a group? This game talked about no grinding and you can’t take three days off at max level and not land a group now??

This was the exact thing that made me uninstall the game and move… First day i couldnt even enter the dungeon due to all disconnect/lag kitten. Second day, most messages were just like “LFM FotM, level 3 minimum”. That demoralized me totally. I felt the same disgust that made me stop playing that other MMO long time ago.

Im starting to miss the wow crowd /sad days.

Then go back. You should have never bought this game because it wasn’t made for you. But because of illiterate dungeon trolls like you who can’t be bothered to read about a game before buying it DEMANDED that ArenaNet give them a hamster-wheel to run on, they ruined the game for the people that they originally pitched the game to.

Its because of you content locusts that the MMO genre just got pushed back into the dark ages after only 3 months in the sun. You’re a piece of scum. Enjoy the rest of high school.

Please don’t take this as me telling you what to do. But there is no reason to call people names. However, I understand your anger and frustration. For some of us that hate “gear stat progression,” it does create strong emotions.

It’s not the mechanic itself but its the negative experiences we had as a result of it. I came to GW2 to get away from a toxic MMO environment. I had hoped that the things they were putting in place would make it a fun MMO for me. Then I played and to my surprise, it truly was different than other MMOs and fun. For 3 months, I have been enjoying the game and community. Now, I am already seeing the same negative behaviors that I left the toxic MMOs for.

…and no offence taken . I am sorry if i offended anyone, on other hand. But i have reasons to be frustrated and angry. This was first MMORPG that i gave money for in years (which on other hand delayed my purchase of “Pathfinder Rulebook”) only because i sold on the story “but we dont want to make the same MMORPG everyone else is making”. Good marketing for them, they screwed up one more fool.

Also, speaking on guilt, i blame myself most of all people… i fell for marketing, which was against my principles… oh well If i make to refund, i will get Pathfinder Rulebook afterall (at least it will not magically turn into magazine after 3 months :P )

I don’t. These guys like that play-style and that’s fine with me. I personally don’t like it but I can’t blame them for enjoying it. I solely blame Anet for not sticking with their teachings.

I get what you are saying. Yes, Arenanet stabbed many of us in the back. They were telling one piece of kitten for 5 years and denied everything they was stood for, the moment they got our money. From now on, i will never ever consider them as a serious company. They reminded me on those greedy russians that made that other joke of f2p MMORPG.

But…

Those people could as well stayed to play WoW, there was even MoP ready to be released, so i failed to see them why would they play GW2 in the first place. They wanted to farm Gear over and over and over again? Yes. And they bought GW2? Why? I fail to understand that they just went “Hurr durr, lets just buy dis, it haz kool looking Red dragon on box” without any other proper research that requires 2 pair of brain cells to use (well, you had to type “guild wars 2” on www.google.com, so i dont know how is that hard to someone). After that they hit level 80, got mad because of lack of progression (which was by no means true)/raids/endgame and came to QQ on forum :P

Arena.net could do nothing more than “Oh look, those guys are complaining, well obviously we should do something about those complaints”. They are in business here afterall, not to give us cookies and cool looking books on our backs. So you got ascended gear/endgame, all because they felt the need to reduce the QQing, well, because they were customers like we was.

Bottom line

  • Players fault: they bought the game which wasnt even made for them at the first place. (if i am bying FIFA expecting to play Basketball game, i will deffinatelly feel dissapointed if i am that dumb)
  • Arena.net’s fault: they listened waaay to much complaints on forum and should just stick to their kittening story/philosophy/thing and not give a kitten about anything else.

I second this. Sad, really sad. It turned out to be that Hamster-wheel gear hunting became a “must-have” for MMORPG as standard and i blame people like these maybe even more than Arenanet

Not being funny but go to plains of ashford and watch people say “LFM AC Exp 80 only” The “lvl treadmill” as you claim has already been in the game pretty much since launch and will always be in it. Fact is people want the best players to have the smoothest run, they always have and always will. Why take someone who is going to wipe the group 5-10 times then someone who’s 80 with exotics who will only make the group smoother. But i agree with you on lore, i wish they took us back to GW1 times ect to replay moments or atleast gave some background lore to each fractal to explain what it is like the woman who speaks to you

Yes, i may agree, there is always people being nitpick, it is just the way the human are. There is no way to stop it fully. But at that way, the elitism was at minimum state. Why? Because no one could lock you out of content. You could do that AC regardless of who you want to go with…
But this constant difficulty raising to infinity was really bad idea. It is the same as checking people for gear, but this time it is checking of how many time you done that dungeon. If you are below difficulty norm, you will be done with it, for good.

annnnd everyone without level 2 is cursed out.

but hey… we got this before we got a working LFG so /map is still a toilet at least.

^This thousand times^
I already made a topic and complaint about this. In two or so weeks, you will start to see “lf1m fractal, diff level 30 minimum” just a matter of time.

And to all who said, that they could do nothing about it, oh believe me, yes they could. Throwing the whole “new dungeon” system into “Recycle Bin” should be best for the start…

Well “level 2 only” is maybe trivial as of now… But wait untill up to.. i dont know, one week? One month?

Dont get surprised when you see “level 50 minimum, all ascended only”. Dont know, maybe they introduce iLevel, who knows… And generally it is a bad thing, whether you may like it or not.

Yes or No: Manifesto Represents the Game?

Short answer would be Hell NO

(A bit) Longer answer should be: They did changed and i can understand why… They had a corporation sniffing behind their back, who noticed coming of another bigger MMORPG title (the one which name should not be mentioned) so they stood in front with attitude like “hey you, screw your philosophy, you got to be just like them, we need more of their playerbase”. Add to this all those “durr, what to do once we get level 80?” crowd. And, no, that article about 80 things to do at level 80 dont helps at all (it is not even serious as Manifesto was :P ).

On one side, yes it is business and i understand this. On other side, i should probably stick to single player RPGs from now on (at least mod-able ones i.e. Skyrim)…

Hello everyone, i am Dzoni and i wanted to share my experience with everyone about this new PvE content. I can say that i done a lot of PvE content in multiple MMORPGs from past decade or so. First thing i wanted to say that GW2 had the most unique and amazing PvE experience i had in MMO for a long time. Now lets get more to the point.

I logged in couple of hours ago. I joined the pug after waiting for a couple of minutes (and listening to that annoying Asura guys who kept spamming one sound file for an hours lol) and we entered. There was not much to see around in that observatory thing, so we decided to go inside right away. Right away since loading, 3 of our guys crashed, so we needed to exit the dungeon all together and start from the very beginning. Why? Because there was no way in hell that they could rejoin us in dungeon. So we re-entered, done with one dungeon segment, then again one of our players crashed (again) and other one need to go to hang out with some friend of his, i dont know, so we needed to call it off. Anyway, this was one of those one-time experiences like no other… so here are my general thoughts abou this (I will try to be as short as i can):

Dungeon Mechanics 5/5 – I like new levels, jumping puzzles and things. I also love the fact that you will need to use particular skills against some of the bosses in order to succeed. Plus, randomizing dungeon segments is a nice idea, that ensures great replayability. Kudos on this.

Dungeon Lore 3/5 – I dont like the fact that this dungeon got little to no background story. It is nothing like the “initial release” dungeons. An asuras researching mist fragments and are using adventures to help them, blahblahblah…. Plus some of bosses/mobs have had me thinking if this is not misplaced “April the 1st” content (Golems with “kitty” ears wtflol). And there is also 0 conversation cinematics (yes i know no one watches those and is a waste of resources for nothing, so i can kind of get this).

Reward Mechanics 2/5 – And, i wont start on that “Ascended items” bullcrap, because this have nothing to do with that, so i will put that out of conversation. But generally all this “difficulty level” thing is ALREADY encouraging elitism. The very moment i even went out after this first run, i could see “LFM FotM level 2 only, Exotics only” already. After a couple of days, no one will even do first 20 levels and the one who decided to begin with this dungeon will be left behind… So, voila, you got famous “treadmill” already. No, maybe not gear treadmill, but “diff level” treadmill. Anyway it is bad and it has come to this, unfortunatelly Little by little and elitism will be born (once again). Arenanet can and should fight this if they want to. But will they? Only time will tell, i guess…

Overall, dungeon has been fun experience from what little i played, but need A LOT of improvements, because in this state, it is far from perfect… especially in “technicall” and “cassual-friendly” part of it (yes, i know it is NOT for cassual gameplay, but you need to make cassual want to play it “according to Arenanet’s philosophy”).

This exactly. The most annoying thing is THAT YOU CANNOT ENTER THE SAME INSTANCE again in case the game kick you out to Desktop. It is frustrating to see others inside and you cant do nothing, but make new instance.
I hope that they will add standard “enter dungeon” button. :P

I hope that your developer team will re-consider this decision seriously and abandon it as soon as possible, for the sake of the game’s survival…

As for the rest of the community, i encourage you to continue on negative feedback on this subject. We, as players, have all the rights to do this, because we are their customers and we payed them in the first place.

Also, we can choose option to boycot their gem shop, as well. If they got hit where it hurts, they will re-consider those desicion as negativelly accepted!

As they stated, they are the company that listens to players. They should start acting like one, if they want the certain future of this game.

well, the same forum that QQ about the lack of stuffs to do at lvl 80 now QQ about Anet adding more stuffs to do at lvl 80. The same forum also QQ about the lack of " PROGRESSION" now QQ about Anet adding progression.

I think the introduction of the new armor type is good .This will make “I-got-exotics-already-now-i-have-no-goal-or-motivation-to-play” people stays longer.

New goal and New motivation, I like the sound of it.

The vast majority of us were in game playing because we liked no vertical climbs of pointlessness.

The thing is, every possible indicator shows that more people have left the game than are playing. The need people to play and buy from the cash shop, that is if you want an expansion. Progression helps them do this.

No, they need to get to a stable player base (one that agrees with their vision), and then determine how to operate within that revenue.

LoL doesn’t have more people than WoW playing it, but who cares because it freakin’ rocks all on it’s own.

I am sorry but i will have to disagree on the fact about LoL (if you was refering to League of Legends). LoL have had “steamrolled” WoW by the number of players. Heck it is even declared as the most played online game on the planet

Sorry for being off-topic…

You can disagree, but you are wrong WoW is the most played mmorpg. LoL is an mmo. If you don’t believe me ask Forbes. here is one article. It’s been said LoL has around 35 million players.

Strange how one typo can change the meaning of whole post. I am sorry, i corrected it. English is not my primary language anyway.

All good mate may have been me misreading.

It’s a good thing LoL has vertical progression, since you guys have both proven it outperformed WoW twice over – certainly this proves… oh, wait a minute…

Well, LoL DO have some kind of progression, but it is in NO way vertical. If you ask me, mechanic of LoL is perfect, which is very well approved.

I mean, you can still rock in 5-mins-ago-created account, with this week’s rotation free Ashe, with no runes equipped if you know ganking, positioning, etc. mechanics (sure the lack of masteries will make things harder but still…) and cooperating very well with team.

AND – there is a finite limit to the power a summoner can have.
After that, it’s all skins and style.

These guys only made my argument stronger by proving me wrong. ;-)

Nuh uh, i didnt said anywhere that you were wrong… well… only at LoL part

First thing to say is that i am all, radicaly and openly against any form of ‘hamster wheel’ mechanic of progression in RPG, let alone in MMORPG (one of them being an ‘gear progression’). It breaks immersion (whoever plays table-top RPGs, knows what im talking about), encourages elitism, splits the community and makes the game second job, which it shouldnt be. This very thing is why i stopped to take MMORPS for serious sub-genre of PC-RPGs. Despite what many says about gear progression, generally it is a bad and awfull thing.

This all being said, in my opinion, many people here are overreacting and making a conclusions about things not yet even certain. I can only ask from people to put some objective ideas and opinions about this. Arena.net need to see the negative feedback about any bad design desicion or something that goes against their “Manifesto” (which is a good marketing right from the start to be honest, but again, is about design philosophy they built a game upon).

Surelly “I will not like any sort of adding Hamster-wheel progression because not having it is what made this game unique in the first place and this very feature will make me cancel my account and move on.”
… is far better than “Oh, maaan, i am done with this game, kitten this, refunding even now before i dont know anything about this”

Hello everyone, i am submitting this feedback as someone who is Guild Leader. Guild Panel is good so far and i like the features that one guild in this game can have, but it lacks of some crucial features that are needed in MMO. Here are example of some of them.

- The ammount of items per day that particular rank can withdraw from Guild Bank/Treasure Trove at Rank Management. This is crucial thing that is needed to prevent Guild Bank robberies. It will also make using Guild Bank feature more safe without splitting guild community and forcing many of unpleasant things (the moment where some of higher rank actually need to spare his time to give the items to ‘lowbie’ members because bank is inaccessible to some members)

- Putting the ammount of time when the user was last time online. this is also usefull so that Officer/Leader can remove players that were inactive for weeks or months. Also it can help the members to see the activeness (cant find proper word, english is not my main, sorry) of guild. Because it is very messy at the moment.

- More detailed info about Character/ID. Or, info about which characters the player with particular ID uses. This can help a lot about what Charaters which player made so it can be easier for officers/leader to track about things that happened at guild and its activities.

I hope that my feedback will help and that someone among developers will actually read this. All of players can write their opinions as well, so that we as community can give more proper feedback on this. Thank you in advance,

Dzoni

Hello,
Up to this day i had 0 problems playing Guild Wars 2. However, since today, whenever i try to enter the game itself (out of loading screen) “Blue screen of death” appears and PC restarts. With testing my PC via “can you run it” website it says that my CPU doesnt pass… However, minimum processor requred for game is “Intel core 2 duo @ 2.0 GhZ” and I have “Intel Pentium Dual CPU @ 2.40 GhZ”.
Can you tell me more about my issue here? I also have 304.78 beta version of Nvidia driver. Please have my Dxdiag atached to this post. Thanks in advance.
