If it gets reintroduced before you sell it, you’re sunk. If its not likely to be reintroduced, there are few better long-term investments, but if anything similar hits the market, you may face pitting your hyper rare item against a similar common item, and suddenly your 300g item hit only fetch a few silver.

This is not necessarily true for all items in the game. For example, take a look at Endless Dolyak Tonics; the transformation of this tonic is also included in Endless Toymakers’ Tonics too. If you compare their respective prices, the Dolyak tonic is 2-3 times more expensive purely due to the rarity/exclusivity of this item.

In the case of monocles, if however, a similar item does get reintroduced, it is more than plausible that perhaps the price of monocles may indeed take a hit, but I’m willing to wager that it will never sink to the value of silvers just because the supply of monocles seem to be quite limited.

Analysis of the supply of Monocles:

- Monocles dropped from Aetherblade Retreat dungeon chest for only around 2 weeks
- Aetherblade Retreat was a rather tricky and time consuming dungeon to run
- Supply of Monocles quicky diminished over the course of a few months (not sure if hoarded or just natural demand)
- Monocles are soulbound on use
- There are no alternatives to acquire monocles except through the TP (for now, at least)

Of course, no one can accurately predict the future so it is safe to say that it is impossible to tell how the market shapes up in the future. A smart economical guess only reduces risk.

Take a look at the supply of mini Caithes and Scarlets: as of Nov 05, there are over 500 listed supply of each respectively. No other rare categorized mini even comes close to matching the supply of these two. IMO, the simple fix for this problem is to either: (1) change the rarity of these minis into masterwork like the holographic risen knights. or (2) decrease the drop rates.

As of today, (Oct 15 patch), set I minis have seen a dip in their respective prices. Now the thing that is really baffling me is why people are offloading these. Think about it – these minis are harder to acquire (only through mystic forging) and yet prices still tank. It doesn’t really make sense IMO.

Side note: many (if not most) minis for the most part, seem to be tied to the prices of gems. If gem prices rise, wouldn’t it be more expensive to forge minis?

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not set one minis are a good investment at the moment? Can this be a time to buy instead of sell? Please feel free to share your opinions!

Mystic forge conduits at nearly 40g today. These things have reached an all time high.

You can’t salvage or mystic forge the level 80 rares. Nice try.

I very much doubt they would rise in price, as I said, this game is all about skins, the normal random exotic armor is currently 40s-1g normally, there are exceptions but I personally cant see the mad king set being a copy skin going very high

This is not true. Named exotic armor pieces (Aidan, Nika, Zhed, Devona, etc…) are all copy skins which go for notably higher prices than regular level 80 exotics.

It would depend on whether or not you can get them anymore after halloween. Discontinued items often tend to increase in price.

I just don’t understand why Anet nerfed the labyrinth chest drop rates but not the chest at the end of mad king dungeon which takes about 5-10min/run and yields the same chance for exotics. Why even incorporate the recipes for the halloween exotics in the first place if you’re going to offer a far easier way to get these items?

HOWEVER, now we have the EXACT SAME ISSUE with the Mad King Dungeon and how people are farming that over and over and over again. The chest is usable every time, loot every time, and people are getting 3-5 exotics an hour since it started. That is NOT right and needs FIXED ASAP!

Yea well, prices will fluctuate for a few days even without false rumors spread by devs to scare those weak minded trader wannabes.

Just imagine all those people buying up chests and whatnot thinking that they will make a killing come 8am GMT. Only to see that – oh noes – there still will be a source for these items (something any same person would have thought of in advance tbh :P). So they quickly rushed to “save” their precious investment before the influx of new items crashes the market, and in the process they crashed it themselves.

Also, I’m quite certain that they will eventually add these items to the BL chests and quite frankly I’m surprised they have not done so already. The initial announcement in the patch notes surprised me a lot less than the admittance of it being a mistake.

Who am I to complain though more money for me.

Even if Anet does add conduits to BL chest drops (very unlikely in the first place), then it will likely have the same drop rate as perma merchants. Think about it, infinite use express mystic forge? Sounds too good to be true. Discontinued, express mystic forge? Anyone who does not currently invest in one is dearly missing out.
