I personally refuse to drop $50 on HoT for a few simple reasons.

First, There isn’t enough information on the new content coming WITH HoT.

Second, $50 and oh, you get the original game too when you already have it and don’t need it?

Make a different pre-order category for those who already have the core game, and people will drop their money faster than you can blink, but it’s a slap in the face to charge $50 for the X-pac AND a game we already own.

People are too funny.
How is this any different than buying a 2 year old steam game that ends up being free or heavily discounted years later? Did veteran players QQ on the forums because they just realized the game they preordered years ago for $100+ previously, is now free? Gosh Steam forums must have their hands full.

Start a new account, phys, and you will get exactly what a new player is getting, for exactly the same price. You’ll also get to level new characters, just like a new player.

It’s not giving up player progress. I am a very casual player, and I have 2 accounts. Got my second account on that absurd sale they had awhile back. With the daily login chests and such, you don’t have to play that extra account very much to level up.

I still play my main account just as much as I did.

however they still exist, they just wont benefit from any HoT only parts, so it is something to consider.
but likely ill just pass on it till they get a sale for a more agreeable price, or they offer more for 50.

But I am not giving up my main house. I still play that the most, and my 2nd account is like that vacation house that gets used a few times a year…….all the main stuff still happens with the ‘old house’. Only reason I even got a 2nd account is that it was cheaper to do that rather than transferring to another wvw server. I like my current wvw server, but there are times when I want to do some different wvw on a different wvw server with different wvw people……that is the ONLY reason I got the 2nd account. It takes a backseat to my main account in every way. I seriously doubt if I will even get HoT for my second account…..maybe next year sometime, but am in no rush for it on the 2nd account.

You’re crazy to think I’m going to give up all that time and energy I’ve already spent on my current account for a new account that has HoT. I don’t have a want or a need to grab another account, even if it’s the better deal. All I want is HoT to be added to my current account at a reasonable price, $50 is far too much for my tastes so I will not be getting it for that amount unless there’s an incentive to do so. And no, getting a new account doesn’t cut it.

Assuming they are all stupid will end up with your business closed down. Savvy customers will run circles around your business if you treat them poorly. Give me a valid reason to pay it’s price as it is without using the gimmick of “you get a free game”. As it stands, I have no reason to.

This suggestion sounds like nothing but someone trying to capitalize on the vulnerable.

If they refuse to lower the price, then it’s the best suggestion I’ve seen. $30 for HoT +$20 in gems. As a veteran, I have no incentive to pay $50 for basically another copy of the game. I don’t need another account, and I still have to pay $50 to add additional content when new players get the core game as well? No deal. Call it what you will, it’s cheating current players. Lower the price or give me a reason to grab the expansion for $50.

I think it’s a fair trade. If veterans are getting 1600 gems with HoT, it’s no different than paying $30 for HoT and getting $20 in gems.

This solution is perfect, it gives me as a veteran an incentive to purchase the expansion and not feel like I’ve been shafted. It’s a reward to those that have been loyal to the franchise thus far and it’s a fair bargain all around. New players buy HoT and get the core game “for free”, veterans buy HoT and get gems as a reward for continued customer loyalty. I don’t understand why some people are so adamant in defending the current price as is. It’s screwing over veteran players that have been investing into the game far longer than any profit that would be generated from the initial rush of new players. You don’t do this and expect your current customers not to go into a rage.

And for those that try to use the subscription argument: one of the main reasons I chose Guild Wars over other MMORPGs was due to the lack of the subscription fee. If the price was announced as $50 for the expansion and $60+ for the expansion plus core game, I think most of us veterans wouldn’t be in such a rage.

The way it stands, a veteran is basically paying for another copy of the game no matter how you slice it. You can use the “free” thing all you want, in the end veterans are still paying for another copy of Guild Wars 2, sans the additional account. It’s cheating your current player base and bad business.

Currently it’s cheating veteran players regardless how you sugarcoat it.

This will sound wierd cause we’re dealing with phyical objects that have cost prices but ignoring the wierdness what we have here is a vendor who is trying to sell video cards and figures some people just dont buy video cards because they dont have PCs to stick them in. In order to overcome their issue they decide to offer a free PC with every video card. When you go to buy your video card you’re charged for the video card and given a free pc. Now you already have the PC so you chuck that aside since you dont need it, stick the video card in your PC and you’re done.

Thing is people are assuming the Expansion costs $30 and everyone is just being charged $20 for the core game whether they need it or not but Anet has already said multiple times that, that is not whats happening here. Expansion costs $50, core game is free. This is a digital product, it would be hard to give away a free pc with every graphic card simply because there is a cost price with a physical pc thats why the scenario above sounds wierd but there is no such issue with digital products. It costs Anet nothing to give away the core game with the expansion without charging anything extra for the expansion and in return it might get them a few more customers they wouldnt otherwise get.

There is no veterans being cheated here. Just lucky new comers who get a great deal if they decide to pre-purchase HoT. Simply speaking one doesnt imply the other!

I’m sorry, but to me it’s still cheating veterans. You better give me an incentive to purchase for the same amount I’ll be paying as a new customer for this expansion. Again, it’s great for new customer and it’s justified because they’ll receive HoT + core game for $50. What about current players? Why am I as a veteran forced to pay the same amount as someone new? They get more value from it by experiencing the core game plus expansion. Veterans already have the core game, so why are they forced to pay for something they already own? Again, regardless how the situation plays out it’s still cheating the vets when you look past said situation. Until a more reasonable price is announced for JUST the expansion, I’ll be passing on getting HoT.

Lets say this week they do a promotion where everyone can get the game for free and next week they open pre-orders for HoT for $50. What you’re describing here is yet another entirely different situation. If they started giving away the core game free next week, I could get another core game account. I could get 20 core game accounts if I wanted them. With the current bundled package, I get nothing but HoT for $50.

The issue here is the disparity between two different versions of what is marketed and sold as the same package.

It is just to illustrate the point, if they gave the game for free even for a week the game would probably die as I am sure you’re not the only one who would open a gazillion accounts. but back on subject it just goes to show the issue here isnt one of being cheat its one of misguided envy.

Let me put it another way.. what if they sold 2 versions one for $50 that has just the expansion and one that includes the base game that sells for $100 … everyone would be fine with that right?

now consider as an introductory offer they put a 50% discount on the bundle that includes the core game. Is this okey? is this something to feel cheated about? and if yes why? why is it okey to put a 75% discount on something but not a 50% on something else?

Bump for great justice. For me, my custom battle music hasn’t played since one of the more recent updates. At first it would play when I went to half health, which was odd…however since after that patch, it’s never played even when surrounded by higher level mobs while at critical health. It’s only during the assault on the Vinewrath, during personal story missions, or living story missions that it plays. This needs to fixed asap, it’s a mood killer to have the ambient music playing when surrounded by 10+ enemies. >_<

Edit: Come to think of it, I started to noticed it after I participated in the closed beta.

My guardian has gone with a ‘space hunter’ theme.

The bodies extended all the way down into the crypt, but because of culling you don’t see them all. Moving into the crypt was kinda freaky, as the game rendered the ghosts all you would hear is death wails.

MMk, he tried to use the Cd key and is getting timed out in the client and using the website is giving an “unknown authorization”. All ports and firewalls are open for the client.

Understood. However, after trying to do the email verification, no email was sent to the one he used. As far as serial code, I don’t remember getting one myself, I think we both used our CD keys as the serial codes…it’s been a while so I don’t remember.

@ Behellagh, from what he’s told me it has nothing to do with ip verification. I’ve done ip verification because I’ve moved a few times, but from what he’s described, it’s like the servers lost the email that’s linked to his account.

Recently, a friend of mine tried to log into his account and got an authentication error after months of playing the game. He’s been playing since the BWE, and went through the steps to try to fix the issue, but nothing has worked so far. He can’t log in or even into the website because both the website and client ask for an email authentication. Why would the client ask for this months after he’s registered and is there a way to solve this?

Just finished with Tequatl the Sunless, and during the battle I noticed the veteran risen krait hypnoss summon two normal krait damoss as minions instead of other risen. Not sure if this was reported or if it was intended, but logic would say that undead should summon more undead, not living minions.

Not sure if this has been reported, but I’ve noticed that since the Flame and Frost update, I could move my character’s head side to side with my mouse camera using certain weapons. At first I thought it was a new feature, but then I noticed I could do the same with other people’s characters that are on screen with mine. Very entertaining to see so I made a video to show it.

I’m still at a loss of whether to leave my tier 2 chest piece for my engie, to go tier 3. I’ve gotten the tier 3 boots and gloves, subbed the pants with Inquest(they look identical to me save the buckle) and with the combination of the tier 2 shoulders and chest it looks really nice. But one question I want to ask is if the chest piece glows similar to the heavy or light armors, I don’t want to spend the gold to find out.

Do you? Most frustrating place I’ve encountered so far.

I’ve noticed that, I was thinking of trying something similar with the Lyss recipe and just subbing the ecto with something else such as lodestones. Unfortunately I don’t have the materials available right now to test this theory just yet.

So while looking for a nice pair of exotic pistols for my engie, I noticed that there seems to be a lack of unique pistol and rifle recipes that one could use in the Mystic Forge unlike melee weapons like Volcanus. My question is why? Why does there seem to be a lack of more modern weapons(rifles, pistols) recipes you could use in the forge? Other than mystic weapons, there is only two recipes for pistols: Lyss and Ilya; not even a rifle recipe…it seems disappointing to those like myself who love their rifles and pistols.

A friend of mine just pointed this out to me that it takes 4 soft wood logs to make a plank. I said that couldn’t be right because every other type of wood planks need 3 logs, but sure enough he was right. So Anet, why does soft wood planks require 4 logs while very other type of wood needs 3?

In my experience, the veins and saplings seem to change every other day. I remember spotting an orichalum vein near the Claw in Frostgorge and an ancient sapling at the top of the jump puzzle, but they didn’t respawn after a day or so after harvesting.

Excellent point. Anyways OP, if you want a weapon that looks appropriate, go with glyphic. The pistols and rifles look hilariously large with other races, especially charr and norn. However in asuran hands, they look much more befitting. I had the same issue since I also run an asura engi, so the only weapons IMHO that look nice on asura are glyphic or Peacekeeper’s weapons. Everything else look like peashooters.
