Yeeeeeeeeeee.
I’ve been looking around (at forums and youtube) and it seems like mantras are kind of an avoidable thing right now. I was just wondering of their effectiveness in PvE.
Thanks!
Thanks a million!
I’ve been hearing a lot of hate for the GS, so I think I’ll try this build out and put some hope back in the GS lol. Thanks for the time, post, and effort
So, I recently got my Mesmer to 80 and have been trying a few builds. I just got into doing fractals (been doing dungeons for a while), and would like to know some somewhat support-y (mainly with Feedback) but is more glass cannon than anything, because I know that in the higher fractals, most defensive stats mean relatively nothing. I have been trying Lazy Kai’s build a bit, but am not too fond of Shatter builds. If someone shows me a pretty good one, I’m sure I can adapt to that style after leveling with Phantasms.
I’m sure variants of this question have been asked, but I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter.
Thanks!

This is a build I came up with. Disregard the all but the traits, skills, and Carrion armor set. In this build I use HGH, FT and static discharge. You’ll be in FT 100% of the time unless you want to use Blowtorch and Poison Volley fro P/P. You just have to stack might and inflict them burns. Use your toolbelt skills off cooldown, etc.
We have a grand total of one powerful build. The borderline between powerful and overpowered is very controversial, but come on. Engineer is easily among (if not the single) least played classes of GW2. Overall Engineers are really friggin underpowered. In nearly all aspects. They do have great support, but with KR nerfed to the ground, that reduces are effectiveness by a LOT. Every patch has been a massive nerf with nowhere near enough buffs in return. Turrets are still crap and the slight buff to FT is practically nothing. FT is still barely a competitive build. If HGH really IS overpowered, though I doubt it is, then at least compensate with some buffs to other builds. There are soooo many cool build ideas I have but are absolute crap because of their ineffectiveness. The Engineer concept is by far my favorite in any MMO I’ve played and this class/profession was one I was severely looking forward to. There are definitely some huge fixes to be made with this class (besides the fact that the Engineers were the last to be put in and were pretty rushed).
Hmm. that sounds like a really good power build. I’m gonna test that out. And I’m gonna assume that the points are taken out of alchemy and put more into Tools?
Yea, this could apply a lot of different variations to it. I personally like the Alchemy because of the boon duration and HGH is a nice might stack. Plus alchemy goes hand in hand with a support style, as I mentioned earlier. If you come up with anything else, feel free to post! ^-^
Yea, I gotcha. I appreciate the input. It was just a build experiment that made a combination of builds I like. This was aimed more or less towards a power-heavy/consistent damage build.
But there are 2 elixirs on the toolbar: Elixir H and Elixir B.
And there is a quite good uptime on Fury, which Utility Goggles give, with Elixir B and it’s toolbet skill. The only thing missing is the extra stacks of Vuln. But the groups I run with usually have quite a bit of Vulnerability along with the proc chances with the FT.
I’m running HGH just for the extra damage, but it would be easy to trait out of HGH and go for more tanky/supportive if needed. But this was a more damage based build.
And you definitely have a point with the loss of Incendiary Powder. My prior FT build consisted of that instead of static discharge.
Also another thing is that this build can be easily set up for more support with a switch of traits, as you can switch in the Elixir Gun.
But I really do appreciate the input. This was more or less just a personalized build for interchangablility between damage and support.
Indeed it does, but nonetheless it’s still Static Discharge hit. But you also have Surprise shot and the Elixir toolbelt skills aren’t on a very long cooldown.
So I’ve been experimenting with an interesting Engineer build. I’ve seen tons of Chain Lightning builds that use Tool Kit, Utility Goggles and Rifle Turret (obviously). But why not implement a high power/condition weapon kit like the Flamethrower to dish out some more damage? I myself have never been a fan of the Rifle and seldom like to use it. Also the build consisting of what I mentioned is really bursty and meant for more PvP assets. I’m more a PvE person myself. So this is the build I’ve been experimenting with:
30 in Firearms: V, VII and XI. 30 in Alchemy: II, VII, XI. 10 in Tools: II.
Heal Skill: Elixir H
Utility Skills: Flamethrower, Elixir B (or any preferred variation), Rifle Turret
Elite: Supply Crate
This build utilizes HGH, giving many stacks of might and which also proc Static Discharge when used on the Tool Belt. My current gear is Carrion for the Power and condition for the Flamethrowers bleeds and burns. For Sigils I recommend using either the Forge or the Scholar, whether you want heavy condition damage or power. For weapon Sigil you can do whichever suits your fancy, but I use Sigil of Superior Air.
If you have any other interesting variations of this or anything you’d like to add, I would much appreciate it.
Thanks!
