I’m not okay with stealth stomps. The Thief class is the one class that should not have a reliable stomp and stealth is always up on a thief. If thiefs are going to have as much burst and the ultimate defense they should have a hard time stomping.

Perfect balance? No that’s not possible.

Better balance then we have now? Absolutely.

It requires the balance team drop this “we change things slowly attitude” and get to fixing the obvious issues.

I play this game because there is nothing else out that I want to try. As soon as that changes this game is gone. The developers can keep their stealth BS. If Thieves and Mezmers are buffed next patch I’ll be out that much sooner.

I had high hopes they’d fix the two uber classes but based on the changes it’s clear they will never balance Thieves and Mezmers. It will never happen. The concept of small adjustments, no big changes, is fine IF the game is close to blanced. It’s not.

The ‘stealth’ classes (counting the mezmer) are broken because stealth is broken. Both class have high dps and burst AND stealth provides the best defense in the game. Toughness and armor are pointless. I was expecting the restealth time to be increased by a second but that didn’t happen.

The formulas in this game seem off as well. Crit rates need to be capped. Toughness needs to do more like lower crit chance. I’m not sure armor does anything. WHERE IS DIMINISHING RETURNS ON CC? WHERE?

I don’t play any of the uber class (started the game as a thief but it was too damn easy) so I’m stuck getting kitten on by bad game design and glacial balance changes.

Jon Peters was just in the mists an hour ago saying they were working on an emergency patch for all 3 of those

Outstanding, I’m hoping they can drop a few buffs for theifs in during the hot fix. Those guys are really hurting.

This game suffers from a number of problems but the two main problems are Theifs and Mesmers. The real issue is each class can shake targeting and maintain high dps and high burst without much chance of being hit by their opponent.

Warriors in heavy armor with max toughness and vitality have a fraction of the defense of a thief. At the same time the thief can slice through the warriors defenses with ease. Each class should have an archtype against which they are at a disadvantage agaisnt and for most classes this is true. Thieves are the dynamite in the GW2 rock-paper-sissor game. All upside and no counters.

I stopped playing the class since it was too damn easy and I’ve played thief type classes since EQ. Somehow-someway Anet has made stealth worse than any other game in history.

The ranger needs work but it’s still fun to play.

If you want a fun experiment go the HotM and strip down a thief, warrior, and ranger. Attack a heavy target dummy and count the ttk for each class. No buffs, no runes, no sigils, just a basic weapon. You’ll be amazed how much longer the ranger takes to kill with auto attacks compared to the other.

Ranger needs a big increase on bow damage right now unless you’re spec’d full glass pea shooter (and why would you do this to yourself) Rangers tickle people to death.

And for gods sake can our pets be faster then players please. Who the hell out runs a bird?

Please consider looking at the issue of Thieves-evading-indefinitely-under-water. There was a thread in the spvp forum on this that got locked because the mod said we had to talk about all theif issues here. Below is the link to the thread. As a summary though:

“I have seen time and time again a single thief holding off a group underwater, with just “evade, evade, evade, evade, evade”. They just sit on the point and spam the evade skill, its silly really.

Also yes I always attack from range- just means I lose the point quicker thief just evades everything I throw at them.

The only way i can see taking one down is to time a stun followed by a one-shot type attack just as the skill ends. However, since there is no CD and given good initiative regen, it seems almost impossible to pull this off (even if you had said stun and one-shot skill).”

Evading indefinitely? Just like other classes we only have 2 evades with the uncommon Vigor boon on us.

Our evade attacks consume quite a lot of Initiative and aren’t infinite.

So yeah.

Go underwater. Go spear. Hit shadow assault while specced with some initiative regen. You’ll see what he means.

Again since most people have a hard time grasping the problem. The thief in this scenario isn’t trying to kill anyone only sit in one spot and stop a cap. Ignore the thief he’ll auto attack you. Focus the thief and he’ll shadow assault.

Issues with the thief class

- perma evade underwater
- the restealth debuff neededs to be longer (+2 more seconds)
- Heartseeker covers too much ground
- Heartseeker should do less damage after multiple uses
- The damage on steal is too high
- Auto attack damage is too high on dagger and shortbow (why does a thief do more damage than a ranger with a shortbow if they are both specced for damage?)
- Quickness should be removed from the thief class

The thief is all reward with little risk. The stealth mechanic makes good players nearly impossible to hit so the thief, unlike other classes, can spec pure damage and safe.

It should be no surprise that the two classes most complained about in PvP are the two classes that can shake targeting. When considering the damage on a class the ability of their opponent to do damage back should be considered. Given that stealth is so easy to achieve in this game the damage available to the thief reflect that fact (i.e. high defense = lower damage).

Fighting an evading thief underwater is fun… really fun. Impossible to hit, except for one stray shot every 10 seconds or so. Another intended mechanic I guess?

does very little damage/avoidable and in my experience thieves always get eaten alive by warrior weapon combos underwater or just ranged weapons underwater in general

You’re not getting it. The thief in this scenario isn’t trying to kill anything only keep you from capping a point while you sit their and watch “evade, evade, evade, evade.”

I don’t have a regen build on my Thief and between dodging, Shadow Assault, and the stealth heal skill I can keep anyone of killing me indefinitely. After seeing this done I tried it out in the mists lake.

I’ve run into this problem as well and it’s the poster child for what’s wrong with this game. There are just too man poorly thought out skills and broken mechanics. To make matters worse the garbage just had to be a thief skill. The skill is beyond abusive but layering this in will all the other thief related issues and it’s a hard pill to swallow.

My guess Anet will take 2-3 months to notice and do anything about the problem. By then the game will have died.

My new favorite thief issue is Shadow Assault underwater. If traited right the you can’t hit a thief at all while he protects the point in Capricorn. Once they have the point just leave a thief their to stealth and hit Shadow assault. You’ll never take the point.

I don’t think they can fix the issues with this game fast enough to keep it from imploding. The bugs and class balance are just too much and Anet is just too slow to respond. I couldn’t get a single one of my friends to buy the game after the free weekend. They loved the PvE but after PvP for an hour they were done.

Mezers need to be toned down a lot
Theifs need to be toned down and the stealth cooldown debuff needs to be extended

Anet wont make these changes so people are going to leave and it sucks.

Bottom line it isn’t acceptable. Anet has created one of the most lopsided PvP games I’ve ever played and they seem to not take balance very seriously. I’m all for taking adjustments slowly but when the bugs and balance issues are easy to spot and should be fixed asap.

I tried to get three of my friends to join on the free weekend and everyone one said the same thing. “Why would I subject myself to PvP with theifs and mezers so broken?” Also as new players getting dumped on by HB spaz warriors was frustrating as all hell for them.

Eles , harder to beat than warrior and thief combined!

You can’t blame eles for migrating to bunker/tanky builds we simply don’t have good damage specs (at least none that work for me). If you spec damage on an ele be prepared to eat dirt, a lot. Eles have few good spec options so you’re going to see the same type of builds over-and-over-and-over again.

How many eles don’t run with at least 20 in Arcane? They need to turn several of the arcane abilities into ele class features in order to open up the spec options.

They could make the cool downs on weapons swap over come the possible OPness. There really isn’t an excuse for the Elementalist being the only class without the ability. Other than laziness or simply not giving a kitten about the class.

As for our weapon conjure skills, well they need a bit of a rethink. You should be able to swap to your other elements and then back to the weapon conjure as long as the timer is still up. An Elemetalist stuck in one element is a dead Elementalist. Right now the skills are pure garbage.

I personally do not like the downed state mechanic. It’s just bad. However I realize that at this point it’s here to stay and I like the rest of the game so I’ll have to live with at least one bite of the kittenandwich.

All classes should have the same downed state abilities and all of the abilities should do the same damage. Furthermore the damage from downed state abilities should be reduced. A lot.

Abilities
One single target interrupt
One single target damage (okay damage)
One AoE (small damage)

The imbalance between the down state (as an ele) is frustrating as all hell.

Rally really needs to be reexamined as well.

Add also:

1)all mesmer illusions are able to teleport near target regardless of the starting position of the mesmer himself, in the Forest map if attacking from the top of the platform, the mesmer illusions can teleport next to you and follow you around afterward

Based on how stupid the Mesmer class is I’d be surprised if they aren’t working on a way to have clones appear in the real world and kick you in the nuts.

The game is perfectly balanced

1) pick your classes quickness skill
2) Tie quickness skill to a slow high damage attack
3) If possible included a stun or snare with your combo
4) Use combo to kitten all over one player
5) Switch to ranged attack until quickness is back up
6) Repeat

Makes sense right. I mean it’s fun to kitten all over people with a broken ability every two minutes? That’s why we all paid 60 bucks for right? To get kitten on by a skill even a kitten monkey could see wasn’t a good idea.

I must be unlucky/lucky because I haven’t been see a lot of thieves recently. I think many of them figured out you can build a burst warrior and have 15k more health to boot.

I have to agree on the Mems though those guys are everywhere. It doesn’t help that in small spaces 2 Mems become 10 making it very hard to find Waldo.
