ArenaNet… You are losing it if you don’t get the News current. The forums were down this morning?? I have some serious Solo gaming imbalances imho. Everyone’s talking about bots. And to top it off there is something wrong with blue items costing less then green yet having far better stats. I’m angry and feeling like I should shelve GW2 gaming for a couple months?? I’ll stop here and see if I can get on with Lornar’s Pass. I’m sure someone at ArenaNet will take the time to delete this today and give me another ‘warning’—if nothing else?

Look, I’m a newbie and I’m trying to get all I can out of my cute little Asura Thief Statics PC. What better place then the ArenaNet Thief Forum? Well I look around the threads here and I don’t understand any of the lingo acronyms jargon. And I’m sure you don’t like me posting “what does this mean” or “what does that mean”? What are you going to do about it? Will ArenaNet come out with an expansive tutorial that works? …that’s searchable? …that has an index unlike that $39 totally useless Guide I looked at at Best Buy?

Searched ‘Loreclaw’ with no results. Found cool secret jumping puzzle but my Thief seems very weak (as in dies instantly) if red circles are not avoided and likewise doesn’t do well with open flame.
What is the minimum prep for this I might be missing since this is the first time these damages have been introduced to the PC?
I’ve watched several YouTube’s on this puzzle and it appears the PCs do the jumping solo and are able to move much faster. One PC had his pants burned off but otherwise still survived.
Also…at the chest(s) there were other players to help out with the fighting… Did they all go through the red circle traps and the fire unscathed?
Does this then require a group and does the first person through to the chests wait maybe a considerable time before her ‘krewe’ (other PCs) manage somehow to arrive?
I actually tried res’ing another PC who happened on the scene but was killed on one of the red circle traps (is there a better name). There wasn’t enough time between the red circle reappearing and killing the res progress.
I need some relatively simple solution or I may give up on this neat one… Too much dying is bad for my nervous system with no clues how to survive or do things differently—if you know what I mean.
Thanks.

I’ve been trying to get into Dreamdark Enclave but the vine gate/spider web gate at one end is closed and it says there might be another way in—that’s what I’m looking for?
The problem is that Morgan’s Orchid is ‘dead’ to me because I believe I did this jump a long long time ago including getting the chest contents and have totally forgotten. The plant leaves are now turned down and shriveled up and although I can get to the top of the rock I cannot make the first real stepping-stone jump.
Q1 Would someone confirm that this is indeed the problem?
Q2 Is there yet another way in or should I just hang this one up?
I tried using Haste to make the first jump to the first stone bridge but failed. Did I use Haste wrong?
Thanks…

All of a sudden after a very hectic long battle I noticed that the mini map, which use to be fixed with ‘N’ always at the top, was now rotating. No doubt I clicked on too many keys during battle and may have brought up a menu even…but I can’t for the life of me find the feature to fix ‘N’ always at the top of the mini map again.
Help and thank you.

Chat Is Stuck In Blood-Red '[Team]' Mode...Can't Chat To Anyone...Can't Get Out!
Posted by: Elowin.9078
I tried a game of Keg Tossing at Hoelbrak. I didn’t like it and tried to figure out how to gracefully leave the game but couldn’t so I waited until a game ended but discovered a second one started immediately and I was still a member of the Red team.
So I quite and restarted that game only to discover that my PC is still stuck in this Chat mode in red prefaced with ‘[Team]’. On top of that whatever I type I get a light-yellow reply stating something like, ‘You don’t belong to a team.’
Because of this I cannot communicate at all in the game with anyone using the chat function. I still have found no help or clues as to how I might still properly get rid of this mode.
I suggest human intervention now please. I have been playing for hours now including several interruptions but my PC is still stuck with this Chat hiccup.
I also hope someone might explain how one quits this game properly. I won’t be playing these mini-games again any time soon until I understand this.

Stuck in '[Team]' Chat Since Trying Keg Tossing In Hoelbrak--No Other Chat Possible Until This Is Cleared!
Posted by: Elowin.9078
Entered game of Keg Tossing in Hoelbrak and picked a team and started playing. Unbeknownst to me I believe the Chat changed from its default to a more blood-red color with ‘TEAM’ leading the line. Decided early on in the game that it was not for me and next tried to figure out how to get out of the game diplomatically. Don’t recall seeing any mention of how to leave the game. Waited for a game to end and discovered I was immediately starting up in a new game of Keg Tossing.
Frustrated I quit the server and restarted the game. I thought this had worked and finished Hoelbrak exploring 100% when I realized that the Chat was still stuck on this blood-red ‘TEAM’. I can’t get rid of it. I even went back to Hoelbrak tried another game but this time declined. It made no difference.
I have all the chat ‘/’ function unchecked—‘/Team’ never was checked to my knowledge. No change.
What ‘/’ option should I check, if any, to override and communicate with in-game support that can help me? Right now because I think it is stuck in the ‘TEAM’ mode I can’t communicate with anyone.
The ‘TEAM’ is in brackets like this ‘[Team]’. Also, when I type something in the Chat line it says, ‘You are not on a Team’. This suggests to me that something is really screwed up because I right now cannot Chat with anyone.
How do I get this sorted out? I’ll delete one of the crossposts when the issue is resolved.

I find playing solo with mobs always possible and constant respawning tedious and frustrating and although I’ve joyed many missions with others which always works out MUCH better there have been several now where I’m too much by myself and end up getting clobbered for it.
Last night I was defeated and and waited for someone to wander in and restore my PC but I ‘smelled the coffee’ to much after he left the scene picking up crystals I really had no need to do and looking for whatever I might have missed in the area. All of a sudden after maybe a minute or so I realized the area had respawned and a half-dozen of the smaller variety of golems had respawned, took a great dislike and mobbed me and I was defeated again.
Other things… Although the PC is an Asuran Thief she seems very much a melee and range fighter. And she isn’t very skilled in the game at all not figuring out yet how to dual weild or, for instance, equip one hand with a short sword or dagger and the off hand with a pistol and figure out how to fire that pistol? So far the solution is to leave the off hand empty and use a short bow as a separate equipment set and switching back and forth between the two sets. She forgets often to focus on what other skills to set for 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8 slots—this could be important but doesn’t seem to care and would rather feel hurt more often then not after a battle.
She has found 1 Mystic Coin with no reason to use it so far and no apparent way to store it elsewhere?
Found a total of 6 (Locked) Black Lion Chests and one key so far so only 1 chest has been opened and disappeared. Looking at the Trading Post is proving a little confusing for her so she ignores the problem hoping the pain will go away… It looks like my option is to store the chests in the bank waiting to find keys or purchase keys with real-world cash? The later won’t happen. Or give up opening the chests and sell them for in-game gold?
I have 1 Energy Crystal, 7 Data Crystals (may be able to give to the researcher or destroy), 1 Strand of Lush Kelp, 1 Hall of Monuments Portal Stone (I visited the place but found nothing to do or see there because after log in registration issues I gave up on trying to recover my GW info, which was probably next to nothing(?)), and 3 Basic Transmutation Stones.
Right clicking on all the above suggests I can destroy them but otherwise gives no clues what to do. I don’t mind storing them somewhere if I knew if that was possible and where. Apparently not the bank or the storage area for making various things.
So the Thief is level 12 now, is about half-way through Metrica Province and 100% through Lion’s Arch—which was a lot of fun to explore and play out—especially the very difficult jump to a secret area and a maddeningly difficult dark area, and not having to be concerned about any battles or respawning.
Have I mentioned how much I dislike respawning? I think there should be a minimum of 5 minutes before anything respawn. The frequency now is unreasonable and not any fun for me at least.
So, I’m looking for ways to play GW 2 much smarter then I have been. So far I don’t see what my advantage is when the PC down-levels. I’ve wondered if I should try the other 5 races starting areas and maybe returning to finish all six of them when I’m a much higher level.
I hope I can find some encouragement and answers from this post. Good luck trying to help—I think it is possible but I know I am not a diehard multiplayer gamer.

Very Frustrated Playing Solo With Mobs & Too Frequent Re-Spawning!?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Elowin.9078
One on one works great. One on two works great. But a variety of baddies re-spawn way to frequently to finish off areas and move on. And imo down-leveling doesn’t give me any advantage. I’m always up against enemies near my level too tough for me to manage with any fun. The PC gets overwhelmed and defeated. The NPCs do NOTHING to help once defeated.
I waited in a cave area southeast of the Jeztar Falls waypoint for ten minutes before being revived by someone’s PC who happened on the scene with no level showing but something like ‘KC’ or ‘KJ’ maybe following their name?? He and I finished off the enemies (three or so golems that were level 10 or so—I’m level 12) and I, instead of hightailing it out of there to lick my wounds started going through my inventory and updating weapons, etc. As soon as I did start to move I immediately notice some small Golem ‘sentries?’ (maybe a half-dozen) in position who immediately defeated me again. The PC who rescued me gone. This WAY TO RAPID RE-SPAWNING is wrong and I’m going to stop playing the game!
Sure, sometimes I help other PCs and sometimes they help me in battles I cannot survive solo with two or three in a mob and other CONSTANTLY re-spawning all the time!
I don’t know how to advance now. Leveling seems to mean nothing if enemies are one or two below you and mob and defeat you constantly. It isn’t fun!
I played all day yesterday and had a lot of fun finishing up everything in Lion’s Arch yesterday including a maddeningly dark area—that of course was because there is no fighting in that area…no mobbing.
Sigh! Do something—anything! When a battle ends let the NPCs wander around restoring the defeated and put in a 5 minute timer countdown for solo players to pickup whatever and get the heck out of that area.
Or get it through my head that I can play solo in between battles but in ALL battle areas I confront or join I better not be Solo.
That’s enough—surely you get the idea? If no one chimes into this I will elevate it with a technical support ticket. I’m not playing any more of the game until I get solid feedback on what’s going on.

Is it ‘okay’ to wear and use only items you pick up/acquire and never have to bother with buying or making ‘better’ armor or weapons? And by ‘okay’ I mean can I finish the game solo this casually? It would be very nice to play this way. If I actually learn how to use my thieving skills I would of course pinch something important I find. (How can this sort of player end up saving the GW2 world?
)
(edited by Elowin.9078)
Decisions now made and I feel past the point of no return—I’m not starting over…I’m committed!
I’m playing the tiniest sized Asura Female Thief possible going with what I’ve read that it just won’t matter as far as being able to finish the game. I’m also playing Solo as much as possible and do not plan to partake in other ‘social’ activities of the game except for joining in with others on the fly as needed and building up my character as much as needed to continue the My Story path one-time through.
Q1. My character is level 9, only 1 level higher then the underwater opponents at Fisher’s Beach Bend, and they are proving to tough and not much fun. I’m thinking I need to build my character’s level up a couple notches higher then opponents? What do you think?
Q2. So far this Thief I’m running is behaving more like a little fighter and does well one-on-one but not so good with a mob (2 or 3 or more) unless I can break them up and stay clear of their melee. Is this really going to work out for me using this character?
Q3. During an episode of My Story the PC was suppose to set up turrets and mines but she(I) couldn’t figure out how to make them go active so they would blow up. Am I missing something crucial here or do I not have the Skill for this trick yet?
(I remarkable got past this point somehow by dying and retrying several times and learning that the mob could be broken up so I could singlehandedly take the fifteen or so odd golems and others on one-by-one.)
[I don’t mind building my character up if that is what I need to do and if I can do it by taking on lower life forms or get into thieving but I don’t want to do cooking, fishing, making this or that, logging, mining, gardening, farming, or picking a million things.]
Q4. The tutorial introduced Elowin (the PC) to stealing but I’m totally unsuccessful at it so far and may, just like the turrets and mines, may not understand the mechanics of it. Re-reading the tutorial all it says is to do is press F1 and shadowstep to whom you are stealing from but elaborates no further. First of all ‘shadowstep’ hardly last a second of travel time before it ends and secondly if I engage it right next to whom I’m stealing from how do I make the pinch—hit F1 a second time? Get a menu (which I don’t get so far) to pick an item?
Answering these questions thoughtfully and timely will go a long way to lowering the frustration I feel building up. Thank you.
P.S., I do not understand what ‘Subscribe’ does at the top of the forums, nor if I can edit the list of posts I have created or responded to or unsubscribe (cull down the number) at some point in the future?
