Once it’s verified you’ll receive an e-mail asking you if the IP that wants to connect to the account is indeed the one that is your’s every time you try to log on – if it says that the IP is from some place in China then you obviously should not authorize the connection.

I think you guys can try to change your e-mails and see if you get the instructions there and then return to the main later on once verified. This advise might screw you guys more than it might help so… Sounds sensible though right?

Yeah, I really would rather not do that as I’m using my most secure e-mail currently and would rather not switch.

Really hope I can get an answer today. More and more people are being hacked, and not having this set up seems like a huge risk.

You’re not permanently changing it, just temporarily so you can receive the verification instructions then change the e-mails back. You can even choose not to acknowledge your IP as the permanent/safe one til you switch back to your secure e-mail so you’re really sure if you’ll receive the e-mails later on at the main address. As I said that this can mess your account more than it’ll fix so it’s up to you if you really want to play as soon as possible or wait.

I did a while back (28th) and the email at the top said guildwars2.ncsoft.com via bluehornet.com. Mousing over all the links shows a guildwars2.ncsoft.com address and clicking on the links takes me to the original GW2 pages, with no mispellings or false looking URL’s so I think mine is legit, though someone could have gotten hold of yours and tampered with it.

I received an e-mail from ‘The Guild Wars 2 Team’ w/ the topic ‘Welcome to the World of Guild Wars 2!’

Every time I received mail from them was from ‘ArenaNet’ so… Has anybody else received this e-mail and is it legit? With all the account hacking going on I became paranoid. Honestly it’s pretty sad that I’m paranoid to click that when I actually do have a GW2 account.

The thing about racial jokes is the context of the joke. Just because you said it’s a joke doesn’t make it okay – we all know that it’s a sensitive matter so making a joke out of it should be taken a lot of consideration or don’t simply do it at all.

Hackers are a real terror… I’d see their point if they did it for information (political truths) but hacking for things like this? Something that they can attain by walking to a store. Like that’s really low… Not to mention the person who replied to you is probably using it for personal entertainment rather than gold farming bots… Sadly you’re gonna have to wait longer than 3 days (most likely)… some people here who hasn’t received help would think that that’s a laughable level of waiting – there’s a thread saying that he/she waited for a week to get a reply, another week to get the ban unlocked then when he/she finally logged in the account was banned again for ‘gold farming’. gg

I bought 3 extra character slots at the launch day & pre-made all the characters so I can play all the professions later on. I just wish I was allowed to log back into my account so I can see if I also received this complimentary bonus and you know… actually play the game?

A similar situation happened to someone I know in GW1, he was cheated by being payed 40 less ecto then the guy went offline and never replied to him.

I wish I can play the game and get to the point of being able to farm 4g… On a separate note did you mail it to that person? Isn’t the Trading Post working? There has been issues w/ the Trading Post not sending the items to the player but them still losing the cost of the item… I don’t know if it also happens in mail. It could be possible that you did get scammed since it’s mail – it’s not the official place where you’re supposed to trade, refrain from using it from now on.

P.S.
-I don’t think they look into things like these since a lot of people get scammed… You can try reporting them though and they might return you your stuff and suspend the offender (I don’t know though since someone mentioned that they’re still not capable of returning items/characters – from a hacked accounts post).

How fortunate you are… I wish I could do the same but I can’t since I already bought 3 additional character slots & pre-made characters to which their names cannot be reused (also the customization) – I would’ve not cared (well actually I would kind of) even if the progress is lost but the additional cost of slots & the names (pretty awesome names) is what I can’t leave behind.

I have a similar problem, I thought the “valid email” would be used, and instead of linking manually like I did with prepurchase, I linked my GW1 account at the registering process, the system made a new account!

I don’t want to lose my progress and that email is too old, plus fear of them not being able to move the serial code onto my real account if I play with both accounts, I’ve been unable to play for days now!

Please help me get my serial code to the right account ticket has been up since the 28th and I’ve tried to prioritize it as I’m unable to play. (I am currently writing this on the wrong account since my real one can’t access the forums.)

Yeah it’s really frightening b/c I’ve seen other of these topics. Like it’s nice that they want to try and keep the game clean but it seems that people are getting banned for even the most relative reasons. It’s like they want to create a community where flowers blossom, everyone is nice, the sun shines and the people are only supposed to worship GW2 – on the outside it seems fine but once you look real deep into it you feel that something’s wrong. Even now I feel like I’m gonna get banned from the game just by saying that.

Sadly the most answer you might get in the forums is simply, “wait it out” since it’s not like you’re gonna be giving out personal/log-in information in here which you shouldn’t. They mentioned that hotmail/live/etc-of-that-sort has some sort of funny shenanigans about not receiving the activation e-mail properly. Some people have tried logging in w/ their linked GW1 account, you can try to see if that works. I too can’t log in and when I tried reactivating the serial code it says that it’s used.

I too can’t log in the game w/ my account and tried reactivating the serial code like you guys did but also received the same result. What sucks is that I bought 3 additional character slots already so I wasted even more money… I even saw some other posts w/ people saying they bought 7; 12 total character slots on 1 account. Don’t know why they need that much since there’s only 8 professions but I guess they can.

Huh? People ARE using one of the tools ArenaNet gives them. One of those tools is the ability to report people.

If you want to swear up a storm or if you want to pick a name you think will get you some attention, go for it, but be prepared to deal with the consequences.

If the people who are banned return and act up again, the second suspension will probably be longer, or maybe permanent. Woot!

I don’t want this to be blown out of proportion (in here) but this is actually a real world controversial topic which is ‘censorship’. Also as an indirect topic there’s a country in Asia that doesn’t allow chewing-gum or cigarettes b/c it has a very high regard for public cleanliness (I’m not too sure about the cigarettes one but it has the same idea w/ chewing-gum being spat on the floor). So the thing is how far are you going to facilitate what people can or can’t do, you can argue that it makes everything better but that’s your opinion (this is a statement, I’m not saying that I don’t agree w/ your opinion on facilitation on chat). All I’m saying is there’s two sides to everything, wanting less censorship on words doesn’t always equate to swearing all over the place.

The staff does not equate to the number of fans, let alone the whole support team. That and there’s nothing you really can do, bursting all of your frustrations to the support isn’t going to help – that’s venting, a lot of people do so here in the forums.

hello everyone. I’m the guy that this post was originally started for. Just got my account back. This has been a complete and utter nightmare. 6 days of back and forth, and not being able to even log on to the forums to say whats been going on. i wanted to let everyone know i actually got a faster response using NCSoft support. I hope all of you get things sorted out soon.

The GW2 support is actually the only place you can fix issues like that properly since you’re not supposed to give out any personal information in the forums. The forum is more of a venting area so people can form a circle and tell each other how they feel.

If support’s what I think it is (back and forth reply w/ a real person & not a series of automated response) then I have a severe feeling that there would be people who would give a piece of their mind after not being responded to for a long time or just plainly be unhelpful b/c of how irritated they are out of not being able to play the game. The more lip you give to the support, the longer it will take for them to help you which will further delay their ability to help others. You must also try to be as clear and direct but detailed as possible when explaining your situation. So far I’ve only received automated responses so I don’t know how the GW2 support works.

P.S. (the statement below is purely of speculation, I don’t speak for/as a GW2 staff)
-For those of you thinking about getting a refund you’ll probably get it after everything is over b/c they prioritize hacked accounts then everything else. By this time you should consider if it’s really worth it to refund after everything is working perfectly. I think it’s also only applicable to digital downloads b/c returning a physical copy to your retailer is a different thing… Don’t know…

It’s gonna take a long long long long time before they’ll be able to fix this ( probably 1 or maybe even 2 months; hacks/log-in issues/bugs)… We have no other option but to wait infuriated as our money is spent on an unusable product… You can try getting a refund but you’re most likely gonna get that refund AFTER everything is over wherein you might ask yourself if it’s really that worth it to refund now that everything’s finally properly working (also only applicable for digital downloads I think).

Already have and was given a generic reply (automated/computer generated). I have a feeling that I will wait a month or two til my issue will be resolved (if even at all). Thought to take a jab at the forums so that other people experiencing this will know that they are not alone and so we can form a circle of *feels.

Once upon a time in Good-Times I logged in with a .COM account for the 3 day head-start but was denied playtime after the ‘grace period’ ended even after I clearly already activated the retail serial code which I’m sure I was not blindfolded for when I typed in the information. After a long frustrating search (did I mention futile?) at ‘support answers’ I was able to manage to change the e-mail to .CA which allowed me to log into the game and hopefully continue magical times riding a unicorn flying into a rainbow but not unless the GW2 folks have something to say about that! When I logged in, not only are my characters non-existent, the character slots have been reduced from 8 to 5! It’s the same account with its e-mails changed but somehow they’re treating it as 2… When I try logging in with the ‘.COM’ e-mail it says I must still activate the retail serial code so I’m hopeful that they can return that but have since been skeptical after the ‘pre-order/purchase mix up’ with the retailers. This is what I get after defending this game from insufferable idiots saying that the game is, “nothing new hurr durr”

By ‘original account’ I meant the one I played the 3 day head-start access on but when the grace period ended I was asked to activate my retail serial code which I already have but I’ve never received any e-mails from them (no they’re not blocked or marked as spam). I started to receive their e-mails & verify when I changed my log in e-mail then the clean account slapped me in the face. If the situation sounds confusing it’s b/c I’m withholding information so that my log in info won’t be compromised (I mean this is a forum not a support).

OMG I need this too! I only have one account though but they’re treating it as if I have 2! In my original account I have 8 pre-made characters but when I was able to verify w/ a different e-mail I only have 5 character slots w/ all the characters gone! I mean seriously what’s wrong w/ them? Pretty sure they’re gonna start denying me the 3 additional character slots saying that I never bought them or the other account w/ the 8 character slots doesn’t belong to me…

Something similar is happening to me… My account was told that I must activate the retail code when I already have… Somehow I was able to change my log in e-mail from .COM to .CA and it finally allowed me to log in & verify but the problem was not only every single one of my pre-made characters were erased (customization, names & everything), I was being asked to pick a home world, the character slots went down from 8 to 5 which is a real real bummer that I wasted an extra $35 on a product that doesn’t work for me (for me) – I tried to keep faith on the game even though a lot of people kept on degrading the game saying, “it’s not innovating anything” and this is what I receive in return… When I try to log in the .COM e-mail it says that I must activate the retail code so I believe that it still exists w/ my characters… I’m 100% sure that I wasn’t blindfolded and that I placed the retail code on .COM rather than .CA but I never got any e-mails when it was .COM. I can only imagine what the people who’ve purchased 7 additional character slots feel… I can only imagine… It’s really annoying… I now learned that it’s not worth pre-purchasing an online game w/ all the head-aches that’ll come w/ the inevitable launch fixes that have to be done… Totally not worth in exchange of being ABLE to PLAY on day 1… Oh wait… (Well I WAS able to play at the 3 day head-start but when the ‘grace period’ ended that’s when I got screwed over)
