The Arena

The stream ended not long ago and Dulfy has the notes up for it already (that was quick!)

  • Arenas allow 3 teams right now and a free for all character. There is also an invulnerable team where players on the team can’t die (decorators/referees can join this team)

So my question’s are:
1. Will this be where spectators can go to watch matches?
2. Will they be able to watch a live match or will be it a limited playback one like in GW1 MAT’s?
3. Will there be a ranking system that will also allow guild matches to be played back?
4. Will their be an option to make sure no one “upgrades or decorates” an arena while a match is in progress?

The Arena Wait Time and GvG

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

tl;dr : I think that a long timegate on Guild Arenas will make them ineffective at addressing some of the concerns of players who are pushing for them the hardest, and I hope that we can find a smart way to address this before the expansion drops. Hopefully we can get a feedback thread started for ideas.

Really great feedback Benjenx – just want to take a moment and point out this exactly how feedback is best phrased. It’s constructive, thoughtful, and makes great points. This is exactly the kind of feedback we spend our time focusing on reading and listening to – so thank you!

In regards to the time line for the Arena – we discussed as a team and ultimately agree it’s important this building be available early for guilds who really want to acquire it. The base arena building will be available within about two weeks of time after launch (based on aetherium and favor requirements) as long as the guild gets enough gold/materials/etc. acquired from game-play in that two week time to build the building. [TLDR; the fastest any guild could build the building will be about two weeks]

Thanks again for the feedback – we hope you enjoy the arena as much as we do!

A big thank you to the team working on the this concern. I know in GW2 your focus has never been on the GvG community. This was a huge and popular aspect of GW1. Not having this automatically embraced in GW2 was not only disheartening but painful, for those who love the style. So we found our own way to make things happen in GW2.
When you announced you were not only going acknowledge the GvG community but, help it along with the Guild Hall Arena’s. The entire GvG community jumped for joy! Finally we had received the long awaited, beloved Guild Hall style GvG.

When it was known it would take up to 2 months to make this Arena possible. The GvG community again went into panic mode. Multiple guilds across multiple servers were looking forward to moving back to their beloved home servers and returning to their friends.

And now, thanks to the response from the GvG players and eloquent post from benjenx.6427, people are once again excited! To be able to play a GvG match without the interference of people jumping in, the emote and chat spamming. Not having to map hop or mess with the PPT on a borderland to be able to play a match un-interrupted.

One great aspect with the GvG’s in Obsidian Sanctum, which I personally felt was an amazing, was that people could watch the matches. This allowed people to not only size up their competition. But allowed for newer players to watch, enjoy, learn and be bitten by the GvG bug. This is where my dilemma lies.

My concern is, will the matches played in the Arena’s be able to be observed? Possibly along the same setup as the MAT’s in GW1? Not necessarily be able to watch a match live. But play it back and watch it after the fact. People being able to watch the matches, has become a great recruitment tool for the GvG guilds. Which in turn, has helped keep the GvG/WvW community alive and kicking on every server.

I hope I’m not alone in my observation concerns. I now this may not seem a big concern for your team and even some players. But as a GvG player, class lead and recruiter myself. I use this aspect to not only recruit new players. It allows for new players, other guilds and veteran players; find, scout, recruit, learn and love the GvG game-play.

Feedback on HoT Stress Test [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

From a PvE aspect, the new story line as well as things to do will keep people entertained. I enjoyed playing with the new achievement traits and gliding around. I think this achievement traits will add an interesting new twist. The new Rev class, that was a lot of fun to play. It will be easy to see what a the WvW/GvG driver class will be. It was a very limited area to be in and the events quickly became repetitive and dull. It was disappointing, the lack of variety in this test though.
Being a WvW/PvP player myself, I was looking forward to seeing the new game content for it. I hope further Beta testing will allow for this before it goes live. I was also looking forward to previewing the guild halls, which again weren’t in this test. Maybe that’s something else for a further testing.
The rewards dropped from the events I felt was fair and online with other GW2 event drops. This will be a very nice PvE train which i’m sure will start up again just like with the Avatar trains about a year ago.
The graphics were amazing as always, and the story line is a nice combination of both areas. The lag was surprisingly not bad! I was able to run on full high graphics for the entire thing with no lag issues. Of course i’m sure that will change as more people have access.
All in all, well done to the expansion. It’s something I look forward to buying for all my accounts when it’s available.

This may have been mentioned somewhere but I’m unable to find it. What areas will we be able to explore today? WvW? PvP? Guild Halls? just PvE and the new class? I know several people with invited and we all have different goals in mind but have been told different things. Could someone clarify this please?

Thanks

I have a blank Character Slot

I’ve been able to go through the entire character creation process, with the exception to choosing the new class. I get to the name screen, put the name in, but i’m scared to death to hit create because I don’t know what will happen outside of the test windows.

Next Game Build: Update

I love watching how people get so worked up over things not being released, when originally told. Things take time, just ask any veteran GW1 player on how long we were promised GW2 and had to keep waiting. Yea it can kinda bite however, the end result is worth the wait. So calm down little ones, this too shall pass.

Real GvG's?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to buy it. However, since we finally get Guild Halls again (a much missed part from GW1), will be be able to have a proper GvG set-up as we did in GW1?

Removing White Sword : Good or Bad?

in WvW

I put this in another thread but I think it should be put in this one.
Okay, I can understand the desire to change things up in WvW. However, this was the WRONG way to go about things. I’m sure in the higher tier’s, where around the clock coverage isn’t an issue, this wouldn’t be as crippling. The no white swords in the lower tier’s has proved devastating. A lot of servers don’t have that coverage, even in their prime time hours people don’t want to just baby-sit a camp or keep. You’ve yet to make it worthwhile to do so. If you feel the need to keep the no white swords, just to make things more difficult for people who are already fighting tooth and nail to bring their servers back to life, then may I suggest a few changes?

  • 100k Cap – White swords would STILL work and appear until the server has reached 100k in their score. This would allow for a non landslide approach to servers crippled by a low population. It would also allow for a staggered degree of difficulty for servers who easily reach this cap.
  • Time Cap – White swords would show on a camp or keep/tower ONLY after 2 minutes. This allows for the ninja taking of said place if a watch guard isn’t on duty. It would also allow for a response to said place although if it isn’t quick and close you’re probably gonna be outta luck.
  • Defending Reward – With no white swords you are basically forcing people to have to sit in a camp, tower/keep and, not enjoy the full benefit of WvW. There has to be some kind of give and take. The amount of rank, points, rewards, and even dust missed out on due to sitting on guard is hurtful. So perhaps some kind of reward for staying within the confines of a camp, keep/tower for a certain amount of time? This area would need more thinking.
