it was a fair game, I’m not talking about that. it’s the emerald in the game. I’m not even t1. wasn’t it meant to be up to 3 tiers above and below your tier?

mind you they change to rules so much now without telling people, who knows…

When the matchmaker looks for a match for you, part of the algorithm’s considerations is to look within 15 pips in either direction from your current spot for both teammates and opponents (at least to start with; this range expands the longer the matchmaker goes without finding enough players in that starting range). According to your pip location at the time of that match, this means that it’s entirely possible that the system could grab either allies or opponents from the first tier in Emerald, even without having to expand its range, which is why there were a couple of them on the other team. There are a number of other factors at work here that let the system ultimately decide that it was okay to put those two Emeralds on the opposing team and still keep the match balanced (most notably MMR considerations), but the matchmaker doesn’t do things like just pick several people at random from that 15 pip range and say, “Okay, that’s 10 players, let’s start.”

So, full premades vs. solo/duo again?

This is by design. We allow duo queues to pair up against full pre-made teams, but not a full group of solo queues. We changed this during Season 2.

As for the spread, it’s because those players are grouped up. For example, the Amber on Red Team is brought up to Sapphire level because they’re pairing with a Sapphire player. The Blue Team has Ruby players on it because they’re most likely in early Ruby which puts them within the range of upper tier Sapphire players for the purposes of matchmaking. The Emerald player is subsequently brought up because they’re grouped with higher division players.

I know that match-ups like this may seem off-kilter at first glance, but it’s entirely within the parameters we’ve set in the matchmaking algorithm and definitely by design. It looks like it was a close match though, so I’m glad you had fun!

S3 Division Placement effect on achievements [Merged]

Crossing divisions as a result of the new season placement system will properly progress the division Ascension achievements in addition to automatically distributing all rewards that you would get for crossing those divisions normally. Sorry for any confusion, folks. Again, you will get proper division crossing progress on your Ascension meta achievement if you begin in either Emerald or Sapphire at the start of this season.

Hi guys! Thank you all so much for your feedback. If you could possibly start to direct your thoughts on our recent map changes (including the ones that you’ve already given) over to this thread so that we can try to consolidate all of your feedback into a single location, that would be very helpful:

- the MMR of average/bad players shouldn’t be lowered as much when losing against a team of a significantly higher MMR

I can confirm that the Ranked matchmaking system already works this way, and worked this way for Season 1 as well. The matches in which you lose against opponents that are much higher rated than you do not adjust your MMR significantly.

- they need to add a preseason to fill the gap or to place people in the ladder based on the previous season

We are continuing to explore ideas for the upcoming off season period, as well as ways to improve overall match quality for Season 3, as we know that there are frustrations for many players (particularly during the start of the season) with regard to matchmaking for Season 2.

My teammate who left the game was NOT a part member.

Still lost a pip. Problem NOT solved.

Edit: Next time the problem happens again, I will make my own thread (with the exact documentation which match it was), seems posting in the same thread get’s you completely ignored.

If this is still happening to you, and it turns out that your situation isn’t the same as ZilentNight’s (where the player that disconnected in your match was also a party member), then I encourage to please either return here or definitely make another post so that we can continue to investigate things further. While ZilentNight’s situation was resolved by getting additional information pertaining to that specific match, if you find that this is still happening to you (or anyone else for that matter), then please don’t hesitate to let us know, as we have no intention of ignoring players if this seems to be an actual recurring issue with Season 2.

From what I understood, you will lose 1 pip whether you lose 0-500 or 499-500 in a match. In other words, in a PuG party once you’re down by ~100 points its a GG for your team since there would be no benefit of making the match close anymore.

Another thing is that people may abuse by taking advantage of desertation system by either:
1) Helping their friend in the party by d/c’ing on purpose so that the team doesn’t lose pips.
2) Taking gold in exchange for the sane favor.

Would love to hear from you regarding this.

I believe if you are partied with the dc, you too lose a pip.

This is exactly the case. I posted this over in Reddit, so to help clairfy here as well:

“If you are in a pre-made group with a party member who abandons the match, and your group loses the match, then everyone in your pre-made group will lose a pip. That one person who abandons will not save your other pre-made teammates from losing a pip.

If you are not in a pre-made group, and one of your random team members abandons, then you will not lose a pip.

This is the exact same way that things functioned in Season 1. Nothing is changing here for Season 2."

Do we have to reach the Legendary division (at some point) to create the legendary backpiece?

Will the new season reset mean that crossing the first three divisions will count for the achievement requirement of Ascencion III, if I and II were completed during the previous season?

If Ascencion II is at 1/2 (Sapphire now), will advancement through Amber next season make it 2/2?

I’m still confused as to why you’re offering a PvE item in a PvP game type other than possibly to encourage non-PvP people like myself to partake..

These are all good questions.

1. No, you do not have to reach Legendary division to complete the Ascension backpiece. Although doing so will speed up your ability to complete it significantly.

2. Your achievements for Year of the Ascension will not reset at the end of each season, but they will only be available until the achievement collection is removed roughly a year after it became available.

3. Yes, if you are currently stuck in a division and can’t climb out (say Sapphire for Season 1) and your progress in Year of the Ascension II is 1/2, then moving from Amber to Emerald in Season 2 will progress this achievement to 2/2 and complete it.

If that’s the case, then the achievement text needs to be changed, because it straight up says ‘in one season’.

That’s the case, devs stated so. In the end, one needs only to reach Ruby twice and Sapphire twice to get the precursor during all the 4 seasons this year.

So, yes, the backpack is pretty much grindable and that’s it, the League system was thought out exactly with that idea in mind (that’s why the “not-losing-pips-every-rank” system is on up until you hit Ruby).

Hey there, folks! My name is Erik and I’m the newest member of the PvP design team.

I think that there’s still a bit of confusion out there about progress regarding the PvP legendary backpack and so I just wanted to pop in and clarify once again that you DO NOT need to complete all of the legendary backpack achievements in a single season in order to acquire the backpack itself. I think the achievement text that Eolirin is referring to is for the “Primordial Legend” achievement, which, while it does require completing in a single season to finish, is not linked to your Ascension progress in any way. Some players who climb to higher divisions faster than other players will naturally be able to finish their legendary backpacks sooner, but again, the achievements for the backpack can be worked on over the entire year’s lifespan of the Ascension achievement category and do not need to be finished in a single PvP league season. Hope that clarifies some things!
