This is a great idea if people really get on board. If anyone needs an experienced and skilled player let me know. Currently have a fully geared necro/thief/mesmer/ele I can play.
My guild didn’t work out because the game didn’t work out. Almost all of the guild of the Alliance I was in (close to ~ 14 or so guilds) have all left the game or have lost lots of members. Not because they were bad guilds, not because the members got mad at their leaders – but because WvW failed to live up to their promises due to the points I have outlined.
So if your guild didn’t work out because the game didn’t work out, then why is it that there are so many other guilds that are having fun and thriving doing small 10-15 man WvW group tactics? I would say to try joining one of those guilds on IoJ, but I know a lot of them moved to Fort Aspenwood.
I would love to talk to one of these “thriving” guilds. Every guild I talk to complains about all the older players bailing and new players coming in and complaining about everything sucking and being pointless. Probably because everything IS pointless in WvW. Its like a little league basketball game, everyone wins and everyone gets a trophy….I think most of us out grew that somewhere around age 5. (most of us…)
There is a very simple answer to this. The guild with the most people online when you play. The more people in wvw, the more powerful.
Basically, check the top tier, check the winning team, and find the largest zerg. Look for the guild with the most tags in said guild. And you have your answer.
Another zerg v zerg video. Only thing impressive is your avoidance of the culling. It’s not your fault its just another zerg v zerg video, because that’s all there is to do, but the fact remains…it’s boring.

I played Dark Age of Camelot for 8 years. I still think about going back because of how amazingly fun it was. I played GW2 for 3 months, and I had to MAKE myself do it for the hopes of WvW improvements. I have quit now for a few weeks, and I still sit here and watch as people “hope for improvements”. Maybe in 2-3 years at the current rate enough will change to make WvW worth actually playing…but that is a long time to wait.
You might have some valid points, but honestly your suggestions couldn’t have been thought out… if they were you don’t play many classes. Especially the combo field suggestion…. lets make ele stronger for having a large amount of finishers and fields, while classes like warriors get kitten because they have 1 field with a large amount of finisher. Increasing the cap on aoe will hurt classes who are already weak on aoe, making them even worse… which is the opposite direction anet is going considering they want to make ST better. I hate rally in wvw with a passion, but it only really becomes an issue when you have randoms running next to you playing rally bot.
In the end you’d be better served adapting rather than throwing out half thought out suggestions on the forums.
The only thing he said that is remotely a bad idea is the 1 and only thing you point out. Make combo fields only effect group members and your complaints are null. Not to mention he never said AoEs need to do as much dmg as single target, only that they should not have a cap, which is absolutely true. Single target classes need to do more single target dmg, and aoe classes need to do aoe dmg, its not rocket science. A thief can drop 1 person extremely fast, an ele can hurt a large group badly, but unlikely to actually drop anyone quickly.
OP is mostly correct. All of those things would be good changes. The only exceptions would be the following.
Combo fields should be based off of your group only. Yea, it takes away some of that “you can play with anyone regardless of groups” crap, but, for a real friendly experience I think that grouping SHOULD have its rewards anyway for teamwork.
Also, downed HP is fine, except….You should start at around 30% of your downed HP, and need to be healed to 100 to get back up (still only allow 1 person to do it at a time). That way, instead of people starting with 10k hp and needing to get to 13k (2 seconds of channeled healing), you should start at 4k HP (and the “finishing move” should be 1.5 seconds all the time unmodified by quickness) That would mean it would take a solid 6-7 seconds to rez someone.
This would give reason to try to finish people off (because if they are getting healing by a rez that is hard to dps through), it would also give incentive to rush over and rez someone if you want them to live(rather than let them lay there and tank like a boss), and it would make it where you are actually almost dead when downed (the way it should be). You would still be invulnerable for 2 seconds as you get downed (to give people reaction time and the like). This would also take away the need to reduce players dmg when downed, as they would be very quick to finish off if you wanted to get rid of that dps.
Also, PLEASE reduce AoE cap, its dumb. Make AoEs do about 80% of their single target counterparts for classes, and hit unlimited targets. Its a no brainer.

Server wins, everyone rejoices! Now we can….um…FIGHT THEM AGAIN!. Makes no sense lol.
Wish they would implement like a 20/10% magic find/karma/xp/coin drop buff to everyone on the first and second place team. Give people a reason to want to win, fight till the end, not just wait it out to try again the next week if they get behind.
There is still not a 2 hours+ heads up on WvW patching? Thought they promised that 4 months ago?
The most important thing right now I think is rewards. There’s no reason to WvW other than non existent realm pride.
Also IMO there really needs to be some more individuality. Everyone is a nobody and means nothing, which makes you not really want to try to do anything spectacular, it encourages you to just run around with everyone else in a big zerg and try to hit as many things as you can for loot bags and karma.
It’s not like these things are new, every successful MMO of the past 12+ years had both of these things. People want to feel accomplished and unique, not “just another player”. I really hope they are doing something with this… Im hopeful….but I was expecting a big PvE patch too…
We have tossed around some ideas for ways to improve the system [Bags dropping in WvW] but it’s relatively low priority so nobody is actively working on it right now.
Raise this priority! The absolute worst thing about WvW is the horrendous reward system, and this is greatly in part because people don’t want to spend their time (or can’t because they are dead) running around picking up loot bags after a fight. The current system is so bad it just silly. You can’t even just spam “F” to pick them up mid fight because all you do is end up rezzing someone (and getting stuck doing it while you die) or picking up a stupid banner. Fix this, Please god, fix it.

What do you mean by “abilities”. Are we talking new skills? Or something else? Can you give any insight into this at all?
Also, these “titles” gained form WvW. Will they be view-able by the opposing teams? Or are these more titles that other people can only see if they target you and look for it.

several ways to stop this. Numbers make it that much easier. Random CCs /aoes on top of anyone who manages to get downed while you rez them will make it so that the thief can never ever finish anyone. just because you cant see him, doesnt mean hes not there.
Other people were right, thieves are very squishy (unless they build to be tanky in which they will not down anyone so it doesn’t matter), catching them is the hard part. if that thief couldnt stealth as much as he did, then he would have died easily to any 1 of your group in a matter of a few seconds. I had a ranger kill me 100% to dead with a single channeled rapid fire shot (I dont remember the name of it) while in stealth.
Also take note of the shadowstep circles, often a thief will make you think he stealthed, when really he just shadow stepped away/back.
Just throwing this out there. He is a 14 year old boy. If I had to bet my life on how his account got hacked, I would go with him getting a virus/keylogger/trojan from visiting a …“questionable” website.
Guys guys. WvW doesnt need any of those crazy things to be more fun. You don’t need Charr Bikes that shoot laser beams, or sharks that ride on rapters backs….
What it needs is a better, more fulfilling reward system. The community itself with fix any “fun” issues if more people get involved. I’m not saying it needs to throw exotics at you when you play, but there should be more than a badge every 10 kills that you gotta remember to pick up off the ground mid combat…
There should be a form of points that you gain for doing things just like the team points, but individual ones. You can gain these from tower captures, kills, keep captures, all that stuff. Access to item skins based on number of points you’ve gained would also be a big boost. Things will get a lot more interesting when you have more than just people fighting for realm pride out there.
Small side note, you should totally be able to see peoples names when you target them. Its ridiculous how much anonymity there is in WvW.
I see so much hate on the forums for both sides, the new gear being a good idea, as well as a bad idea. I came up with something that MIGHT satisfy everyone..?
Introduce your new ascended gear. Except make the stats THE SAME AS EXOTICS. Make the big difference the infusion slot. The infusion slot would only give bonuses to things in specific dungeons.
EXAMPLE -> Infusion slot makes you take 5% less damage from agony condition (the monster only new condition).
That way, there is gear progression in PVE dungeons. You can progress further into the new fractoid dungeons or whatever they are and feel all epic, but at the same time, that same gear will be exactly the same as current exotics (except hopefully look amazing) in every other aspect of the game.
Side Note – Ascended accessories (if they had the same stats as exotics) is great just because it gives another way for people to get “exotic quality” accessories for something other than gold (or farming mats to make it which is the same thing as gold IMO)
TL;DR – Make ascended gear only “better” in “harder modes” of the new dungeon type, and the same (but cooler looking) in every other aspect of the game (especially WvW)
Side note – When you mentioned there being things like scouting and reporting that help in WvW but wouldn’t get rewarded, well, some jobs dont have songs sang about them, and thats just one of the things youll have to deal with if you want to be “that” guy who puts the win ahead of himself. What isn’t good is when everyone becomes that guy and no one sees any reward for all the work they put in.
But yea, theres obvious work that needs to go into my idea, but I think it has a solid foundation that developers could build on and really make something awesome. I just really want to see reward when I WvW, more than randomly getting badges that give me different looking gear.
No more complex I imagine than the medal system for rewards in events. Some people do buffs on the people killing, some people do the killing. There would be alot of moving parts for sure, but thats why Anet has teams of programmers!
PS. I would be extremely happy, if I could get even a single “I read this” from anyone at Anet. I have had several people (strangers in map chat) tell me that this is a great idea. Id just love to know it wasn’t lost on the forums and never read~
Your entire idea is flawed. Not to be mean or rude or whatever. The entire point of removing it, is that the winning team, becomes more powerful, and then becomes even harder to beat. If anything it should be the opposite. The less you own, the more powerful you become so that you can come back and put up a fight. No one likes to be on the side where the other team has 90% of the map, and they are 50% more powerful that you now so you cant take anything back.
I think this is something they really do need to look at. Veterans – Champions should have increasing number of items drop, as well as a higher chance of rare/exotic. That being said, the “big chests” are pretty terrible as well currently.
Just a note, you can get lots of resources by just salvaging the stuff you get. With that said, the only thing you wouldnt get, is the daily completion for gathering things~
I feel like there is a very serious lack of reward in WvW for the single person. It is all too broad and so hard to feel like you are making a difference. When you log off on a Wednesday night, you really don’t feel like you accomplished much (in most cases).
So I thought of a temporary title/badge(like the world completion one)/other reward that lasts for the following WvW battle would be a great idea. Now I am sure you are thinking that you still wouldn’t get anything until the end of the battle right? Well thats where, how you get this title (we will call it a title for now even though that could be interchanged with another reward).
To get the title, you must rank in a top “x” percentile (there can be multiple titles for different ranks). The way you will get points for this “rank” is by doing all the things you would normally do in WvW. The following is my rough draft point system. Note: The points would always be visible for you so you could keep track of your point value and how you are doing that week.
Killing a player – 10 points (for every person that hurts that player, the point is reduced by 1 until the minimum point value of 1)
Participating in veteran event (capping the “land” after killing it) 10 points.
Supply camp capture – 25 points
Tower capture – 50 points
Keep capture – 100 points
Castle Capture – 200 points
There could also be permanent titles for achieving a certain point value. Example being, the week only title could be “Mist Champion” and the title for getting (making up a number here at random) 200,000 points in a week could be “Eternal Champion”
Thats my suggestion. I know it could obviously use some real work. But I think something along these lines would keep people trying to dominate every week so that they could keep their awesome title and show off how awesome that are (Currently theres no real reward AT ALL for WvW that is visible – even if you win your only reward is to play a harder server next week and still get no reward)
Note, I know this would need some real time and work on the devs part for something like this, but I really feel like WvW is the only thing in the game currently that has any chance of keeping people interested for the long term, and right now, its falling just a bit short due almost exclusively to the reward system. Also, I believe some form of database to compare your points to other players would be a great idea.
TL;DR – Improve reward for WvW, something you can really see. Add point values to stuff you do on a personal level, and reward you for these points. Give temporary things for some of this so people must continue to play every week to keep their reward.
I have completed every single achievment in the special event tab for the Mad king. The Emissary of the Mad King is still stuck on 4 / 5. Several other people have obviously reported this problem. My real question is if we are missing something not shown or if this is just a glitch when it is fixed do we recieve the title and experience for attaining this title?
