Maybe with a great deal more creative contribution we stand a better chance
to add though:
-Mesmers make great dads! Can play catch with the kids like no other! pitcher and basemen!
We have to have some more ideas for dating a lady mesmer than just “lolharem!”..

- Yes, my clones do too need their own credit cards!
shudder oh the horror…
Alimony to 4 ex-wives… Mesmer and her clones.. Oh god!
-Portal was only initially intended to be used by the casting mesmer. This bug was fixed.
-If you ever get mad at him, you can stab his clone to death to relieve the stress. All the joys of the real thing, and then you get pretty butterflies to play with!
That is a great point!
“No honey I did NOT cast time warp before we jumped into bed? What the hell is THAT supposed to mean!?”
So here we can discuss all the benefits for men and women to be dating a mesmer.
For the women:
- Stylish and always willing to do some clothes shopping
- Chicks dig butterflies!
- Comfy and cuddling on the couch but he wants to go grab a drink? decoys outta there and you get to keep that nice chest to lie on
- A song comes on at the bar and you REALLY want to dance, but he’s comfortable at the bar with his buddies? Here honey, have a clone to go whoop it up with!
- Oh Noes! you just started on that roap trip but forgot your purse at home? BAM! Portal!
- Uh Oh, that catty bag you hate from the office is walking up the street looking great and you really don’t want to chat with her cause you’re not wearing your push-up bra and make-up? No problem love, have a veil of invisibility.
For the Men:
- Threesomes.. All the time.. And no chance she’ll get jealous.
Also, I confess that I spastically click and target sometimes and have clones/phantasms running around a melee at various different targets and sometimes wonder why my shatter does so little damage to my current target.. Cause 3 different people got mind wracked… Oops
@PhilFernley
I agree, as a human male mesmer high nobility was the only way to go as poor people are far to caught up in, well, being poor, to develop the flair and tastes of a mesmer. My mesmer is somewhere between Jack Sparrow and James bond, dashing and charming with a flair for the dramatic.
I feel Anet should make racial adjustments for mesmers spell effects (ridiculous I know, but fun to imagine) so that instead of a Norn popping butterflies they’re ice and snowflakes or ravens or something, etc. etc.
I confess though that I use moa morph a lot, as it seems fitting for a mesmer to render someone completely useless and silly looking, then laugh at their bumbling chickeness and duel away.
Not a bug, more of a pain in the kitten but it took a long time for me to figure out why 80% of my sword 3 clones failed to cast yet went on cooldown, range. Would be nice to get the “out of range” indicator on that skill.
I dunno really, it certainly takes a bit more work but I feel alright with contributions. Between chaos storm, mirror blade, iberserker, and various shatters ( target different areas of mobs to spread your clones out for the shatters) I do alright.
Sure it’s not running around as a dagger ele spamming pbAOE or whirling through crowds as a GS warrior, but with some effort you can spread damage around fine.
Ok thanks for the response.
How are you finding their damage output vs mobs though?
Depends really, sometimes I’m shocked at how fast things die, other times I find myself taking a long time even on a single mob.
I am leveling right now with GS/staff, and I will get to range, hurl a mirror blade, cast up a iberserker, #3, auto, and after the berserker finishes they’re already dead! Or with particularly large mobs I might open with staff, #2, mirror image, and the 4 of us burn it down with conditions before it even gets close. If it DOES get close, chaos storm and shatter, if they’re STILL in your face switch to GS to blast them back, berserker, etc. etc. etc.
Like I said I don’t have a lot of experience and while mesmer certianly isn’t “charge in hundred blades dead!”, I have a lot of fun dancing around the mobs, watching them lumber off after an illusion while getting blasted i nthe back of the head, blinking away from trouble, decoying, etc. It’s a very active and involved and FUN profession.

I have enjoyed my mesmer so far and aren’t having too many problems. The need to be really mobile though certainly causes some issues if you’re trying to kill things in a highly populated area. Can’t just stand there and slug it out..
I keep hearing that lvl 40 is some magical number that PvE becomes a lot better after, but I enjoy the mesmer and really don’t ahve many issues with soloing various veterans and D/E mobs unless they summon a lot of adds.
I suppose to actually answer your points:
I personally haven’t found it hard to level, but I am new.. Once I learned to actually use my 6-9 skills a lot that helped.
main weaknesses? What I’ve found is large packs of mobs with both melee and ranged tends to really eff me up. That and trying to fight veterans/bosses in tight spaces. Lots of melee is simple just round em up, pack them in, iberserker-chaos storm- clones – bounce around winds of chaos, etc. etc.

Keep in mind our understanding of real world plant biology is still expanding and they make have means of feeling and communication we still don’t understand. For example look at a venus fly trap, when something is inside it and disturbs one of the “hairs” it starts an internal clock. Should another hair be touched within, I think it’s about 5 seconds, then the trap closes. What mechanisms are in place to determine this countdown and to keep track of how many hairs have been touched? Unknown.
Going off an tangent I suppose and it’s certainly a stretch to liken the venus fly trap to a thinking, speaking, complex organism.
so…
Magic!
