the easiest combo will be:

blood ruby amulet (125 ruby)
blood ruby ring (100 ruby)
petrified wood earring (150 wood)
winterberry ring (200 berry)
winterberry earring (300 berry)
any of the 3 backpieces (200 ruby / 200 wood / 400 berry)

along with 20k unbound magic

it may be tempting to get 2 of the same rings, but they are unique and you will eventually want to have all 6 infusion slots available, so get different ones. the same applies to earrings, except you cant even upgrade them so just get different ones as you cant even equip 2 sparking woods or 2 black ice earrings.

perfect answer, thank you.

I don’t know what all of those things are yet (i’m only up to the story so far) but I can look them up and unless anyone significantly disagrees, i will be following your advice.

thanks again.

If finally finished my ascended armor (crafted rabid and converted in to vipers) but now I’m having a really hard time filling out my accessories and the wiki is a bit convoluted to use to figure out what items can be vipers.

I don’t raid (yet) so those aren’t an option.

I have nearly a hundred Blood Rubies. Which slot should get that cant easily be filled elsewhere?

A build without so many kits?

for open world pve, try this build if you dont want 4 kits:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFASncoC1ahFpCepCsehl7ii+2j9cHsBjwAIcCDoMD-TBhFgAAKBpV+Zq+zlOCA-e

swap out the gyros for whatever you prefer or is relevant to what you’re up to.

Swap your Applied force to adaptive armor if you’re getting your bum kicked.

Use your hammer skills then swap to flame thrower and have at it.

Runes\sigils are up to you. personally, in solo play i really like scrapper runes.

This layout has great bar breaking for big guys and solid survival while still just wearing yellow zerker gear. Keep moving around just a little bit to eat up the TONS of heal kits that Bunker down gives you and it’s a literal blast.

Not really the ideal build for FoTM and whatnot though but it can be modified to be better for them. Such as taking Elixer gun and whatnot.

I suggest the commander armor for starts. This is the zerk and boonsharing armor. This keeps damage high and allows you to boon share. The SoI nerf was more of a change and you can EASILY reach 100% boon duration and keep almost all of the boons shared by SoI up nonstop as long as you have a second application. Such as Shield 5 or Well of Action being the second application of Quickness.

This allows you to do a small rotation to apply quickness and alacrity to your warrior, which boosts its attack and recharge speed. Warriors attacking grants might which will share to you, boosting your own damage. This allows synergy between the two classes.

A second selection would be the minstrel set. You are now Nomad + boon duration. Healing, tanky, large health pool. This means you’re more of a healer towards your warrior. You support by the same Quickness and Alacrity, as well as some strong heals and pulsing regen. You can take the healing mantra and another mantra of either Daze or Stun break to keep your warrior from taking damage, healing its damage, or getting it back on it’s feet. You remove conditions from it. It grants you might, but you wont deal more damage as the benchmark for minstrel mesmer is 2k dps, compared to a 10k-17k on commander (with all boons and perf rotation).

These two would be the best bet, both of which use a near similar build set up, just different heal/third utility, and armor sets. You get a ton out of each.

If it’s just you two, doing pve content, I HIGHLY suggest the first option.

Next thing I could think of would be a condi mesmer with a focus on disrupting. Take mantra of daze, gravity well, focus pull. You apply a lot of aoe condi and extra confusion when you interrupt them. It’s less support for the warrior, but damage prevented is damage healed! This is more the warrior supporting you with might, but with pulls of focus and gravity well, things are now nice and clumped for your warrior friend to WRECK UTTER HAVOC!

Enjoy!

Your reply was very helpful and I will try out your suggestions the next time I play.

I think im a little confused on boon sharing though, i thought that signet was the only way we had to give boons (aside from the shatter perk and wells). How does the signet help now? doesnt it only give one buff to allies?

Also, the warrior gives me might, can i signet share it back onto her?

Fresh level 80 open world build advice

A similar build to the one above, but that doesnt require endless weeks crafting ascended is what i use (posted below) for open world and lesser dungeons.

It will require you hop on a HP train but shouldnt take more than a half hour or so if you find a good commander (i managed to twice on different characters very easily and quickly).

Swap gyros depending on if you want more defense or more dps. I really like the bulwark gyro personally. And if you’re fighting something tough or your simply looking for more defense, swap Applied Force to Adaptive Armor. Dont let anyone tell you that if your not full DPS build in open world that it’s wrong. Being a bit tanky in Open World is a lot of fun.

Play style is simple, use all of your hammer skills then swap to Flamethrower. Your hammer combos 5+3+2 are great openers and bar breakers. the Flamethrower is great for tagging, general dps burn down and stability. Bunker Down on a close range build is a lot better then a lot of players give it credit for. You drop a LOT of mines and heal kits using the flame thrower.

If you find you die a lot in meta events, this build is a good balance.

It’s easy to play, much more lazy then meta builds and doesnt need ascended armor to feel powerful.

We’ve just returned to GW2 after having played for about a year after launch and are enjoying the game but could use a little advice.

I play my Mesmer almost exclusively as a duo with my partner whom playes a Warrior. We are fairly casual and mostly just run open world content and story missions but occasionally do low levels FotM and some dungeons.

I’m having a hard time setting up a build that helps me synergize with her warrior. Any of the builds I find by searching the forums and metta all seem highly dependent on Boon Sharing via the signet of Inspiration. To my knowledge, that signet has been nerffed and thus boon sharing like that doesn’t work anymore. I’ve searched and searched but can’t find an alternative. I’d like to play as a support for her, but don’t really know how to set it up.

I’m sure many would just say something like “play any build, the game is easy” but try to understand that what may be easy for some proves to be a kittenallenging for us. And that just because we can beat a missions it would be more fun to do so smoothly. It’s wonderful to get good at a build and win a mission with finesse.

Long story short, can anyone recommend a support-like build that would synergize well with a warrior? We’re also open to build suggestions for her warrior that would synergize well with my Mesmer. We both have the elites fully unlocked.

Anyone make Gadgeteer work?

Ive found that my rotation with SD builds seem to flesh out to superior DPS in PVE in the past. I can see how a lot of people prefer explosives but for me, throw wrench+ram+rifel + explode rifle + ram + rifle skills / repeat… was not just burst but also consistent damage period.

I was hoping now that the dev have taken a second look at the clearly lackluster Tools grandmasters, it could be used to effect. I suppose not.

Has anyone out there made a build with the new “Gadgeteer” trait work well?

(long version below)

I love the “Tools” line and the entire concept of it. Have been playing with it since release but I’ve never actually used it’s Grand Master trait. Actually I usually end up using something from “adept” in the final slot since nothing in GM is appealing.

But the GW2 devs took a second swing to that tier of traits so I’m thinking they put a lot of thought into builds…… problem is, I don’t get it. I’d like to see what other fellas are doing with this trait as the abilities that work with it … don’t really vibe with those of Static Discharge (the general go-to for the line).

(talking about PVE, mind you. I don’t do Glass-cannon otherwise)

There would be several advantages to allowing engineers to use both / either heavy or medium.

1. easier transition
2. would allow the stubborn sorts to keep what they like (such as that dude moaning that he picked Engineer based partly on being medium)
3. Transmutation stones could maybe work both ways. think about that. everyones happy.
4. They could choose to pull an old silly WoW mechanic (start with Medium and gain access to Heavy at level XX! yay a prize for leveling!) because many devs love that stuff.
5. easier transition
6. potential to change some of the weakest/unused traits and make them “if you use all medium armor you get insert effect here” opening up a great number of possible builds with very little effort.

More importantly, what downside is there?

You’re doing it all wrong…. regarding the proposed transition from medium to heavy.

See… engineers are about utility…. above all.

Don’t try turn medium armor into heavy, and have all sorts okittenward mechanics to make it as smooth less-annoying/offensive as possible. Stop the debate rite here and there.

Do not convert engineers medium armor to heavy. Do what is already interesting about the class and expand. FLEXIBILITY.

Allow engineers to use both medium and heavy armor. done and done.

problem solved. keep your medium armor if you like it so much. upgrade , as it were, to heavy if you feel that quality is greater than visually….. so to speak.

The easy and obvious solution to balancing engineers means giving them both armor sets as an option. The flexibility fits the class’ utility aspect and helps to balance their woefully low defensive capability without having to change skills. It also opens up a proper medium armor class such as dervish (or something similar).

I agree that engineers do not belong as an “adventurer” class. My wife happens to have a masters in engineering and i can tell you flat out that shes not doing much adventuring!…… ((let just keep that last sentence between you, me, and the interwebs.)) Giving them access to Heavy Armor while allowing the option for Medium Armor based on their stat preference is so perfect a way to maintain the beauty of the original Engie concept that it boggles my mind it’s not more commonly discusses in-game.

Turning “this” into “this” as that guy stated would make my day. However I can see that having a full screen map open could be debated as an advantage in pvp (map awarness is a big deal in spvp) and and it’s clear they are trying to eliminate those kinds of variables.

What I do think would be perfectly fair and still highly desirable would be to allow having the mini map, chat box, quest log, xp bar, bags and other nonessential UI elements on a second monitor. It would just make PVE and the likes more immersive and give little if any advantage to a player with a second screen over one without. It definitely woudl be no greater advantage then having a higher resolution screen and reducing ones UI size.

Camera-Related Issues: Compilation and Lengthy Anaylsis

Allowing the camera to “tilt” upwards a bit would improve my enjoyment of the game so drastically that i do not have the words to express it. I feel that having “camera tilt” as a slider at any level would very drastically make the game far more enjoyable.

The Art team of GW2 has done such a lovely job at creating an amazing and artful game world that it’s borderline tragic that all most of us ever see is the ground.

However… seeing that much of ones character is often a huge benefit in PVP, so i understand the origional decision to make the camera point so low….. which is why i say there needs to be a Tilt Slider rather than a full-deal change.

none of the other issue do i really have any problem with. Although my girlfriend hates the camera clipping (for example during that one jump-puzzle in the Salvari starting zone that brings you to that one pain-in-the-butt other jump puzzle, sorry i dont know the names… im sure many of you do) so i can agree with allowing better clipping features. However i absolutelly agree with making the Camera Tilt option a 10000000% top priority. it is the single biggest flaw in Guild Wars 2 as far as I, and my three closest friends are concirned.
