But there’s a silver enemy in HotW that does an underwater spin attack that ticks confusion on every hit, he kills himself in like two seconds even with just 3~5 stacks. Shows how broken it could be.

Well, you’ll find it’s the same for other professions. On the mesmer, for instance, shatter builds just trump everything.

Guardians have a lower hitpoint pool than warriors because hitpoints are mainly used as defense against condition and burst damage, two things which guardians don’t worry about because they have wide access to other means of defense (high armor, aegis, blocks, protection, cleanses, heals coming out of the kitten etc).

I don’t see what’s so OP about hundred blades, it’s a melee, channeled, self-root ability. If it didn’t deal so much damage it would be mediocre.

Well I find rangers rather straightforward.

It’s just that the class is so weak in a pvp situation that it feels like you’re fighting handicapped.

By the way, does Compassion Training affect Natural Healing? I thought it was just for actual pet healing skills like the ones on the moas or the fern hound’s howl.

Wouldn’t that make it useless for this build unless you run with the cabbage dog?

That was not how this game was advertised. No holy trinity and all that jack. And yet guardians, warriors, and guardians can make themselves incredibly tanky, and not only that, but guardians and elementalists can also make themselves pretty effective healers in a game which supposedly has no healers.

That there isn’t a trinity doesn’t mean everyone is equal. Some professions are meant to excel at particular roles, you don’t need more than a peek at the guardian skillset to notice he works best as a supportive frontline character. That rangers don’t excel at anything is an issue with this particular class. In an ideal world rangers should be among the best roamers in the game, if not THE best.

It’s frustrating. Just comparing rangers with elementalists, you see that they can outdamage us, outlive us, and outheal us. And don’t even make me start about guardians.

They also need to put twice as much effort as any other profession to do anything, and have a selection of skills and traits that rival rangers in awfulness. They’re just more viable because the attunement system gives them a lot more versatility.

How does it make you feel that an elementalist/guardian bunker build is ten times as effective as a ranger bunker build?

I know how it makes me feel. It makes me feel sad.

Rangers aren’t really supposed to be bunkers, they don’t have enough skills to support that playstyle unlike Guardians and Elementalists.

It’s more about design issues than anything else. Rangers have a poor selection of skills and traits, it’s something the developers already acknowledged and are working on for a while now.

The reason he was posting on the mesmer forums is likely because the phantasm issue is a lot more game breaking since it’s affecting every weapon combination and is a central class mechanic.

Pets are also a central class mechanic, and are currently much more broken than the phantasm issue.

And I agree, but unlike phantasm delays, pet pathing and AI aren’t something that can be fixed by doing stopwatch tests and changing some variables.

Rangers do fine enough, but many of their skills and traits are rather poorly designed or just outright buggy so you’re constantly forced into picking the same skills and traits because the rest is terrible and that gets really boring after a while.

Other professions usually have builds where every trait just clicks together, the ranger trait lines look like they weren’t designed with sinergy in mind most of the time. I mean the closest thing I can think to good sinergy are the Marksmanship and Skirmishing bow traits.

Just look at the trap talents – they required 4 major slots in 2 trees during BWE, but now they’re just 2 slots in a single tree. Some builds in other classes, and some entire classes (like necro), don’t have this luxury.

I actually think that’s one of the many bad examples of trait distribution. Having both trap traits on the Skirmishing line is just poor design, Trap Potency should be in the Wilderness Survival line where it belongs.
