(Role play integration)
ANet will doubtless have a table with level on one axis and base precision with no gear at that level. They then would plug the values from the table shown on the wiki Precision page to get precision values for each level. Even if the precision values only change every few levels, the divisor (21 @ 80) changes in a linear fashion at each level, so it would seem there is indeed a somewhat different equation for every level. What the various equations use in place of 916 or 895 is doubtless based on what the base chance to crit with no precision from gear or traits is intended to be. I suspect these numbers would also have to change.
Yes these numbers change and a lot, the two tables are easy to calculate, I have it if you want to throw an eye. every two levels you have big increasing steps like up to +42 or more, and in between those big increase you have decreasing step like -1,6. absolutely not consistant at all.
Heh, they haven’t fixed a lot of things. Also, since the wiki is fan created, there is no guarantee that it is correct. I suspect they would have had to do in-game testing with large sample sizes. The display in the Hero Panel shows 4% for a character who has only base Precision. For me to be willing to state definitively that 5% is accurate, I would have to do a lot of testing and post my findings on the discussion page — which I don’t see.
That’s too bad. If there is a wiki page, even if it’s not true science, they have probably consider the thing.
916 is not a random number. Base precision at 80 is 1000. 1000 – 916 = 84. 84/21 = 4. 4% was the base critical chance at 80 from launch. The discrepancy reported on the Wiki indicates that base critical chance seems to actually be 5% (1000-895)/21 = 5
If you look at some of the different formulae shown in the the older pages on Precision in the Precision History tab, you’ll see that the formula has been moving toward simpler over time, perhaps with the intent of making it easier for different players to predict the effect of added precision to their builds, while also keeping Precision as a base stat rather than treating it like Ferocity and preserving the 4% (or 5%) base chance.
Thanks for your answer. How does 916, or 895 scale with the character level ? I believe that atm nobody really know that or even care about. To me an equation is true only when it’s application domain is total, including the level as input.
Having an equation only true for lvl 80 is very frustrating
How did people managed to find out that heros panel is false ? statistical tests ? is the thing proved ? Anet should know about that, I guess they would have done something if it were true. If it is then why didn’t they fixed it yet ?
If I understand well, when you have 99% or might be less if the delta is increasing, you actually never land a not critical hit, which means the displayed info should be 100% ?
Hello everyone,
Here is the wiki about Precision : https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Precision
The rule is the following : Critical Chance = (Precision – 916) / 21
I’ve tried to find a way to understand this and what I’ve found is another formula which is kind of suspicious. See :
Let’s assume Precision = Precision(lvl) + Precision(equipment)
The new formula is : Critical Chance = 4 + Precision(equipement) / Pp%(lvl)
with Pp% the Precision per % of Critical Chance (at lvl 80, Pp% = 21) you can see the table on the link above.
Not only this simple formula works everytime, but also whatever the level you have! And not only at lvl 80. (Well I did only 20 tests with different characters, different levels (20, 55, 80) and different values, but it fit perfectly everytime at a precision of 2 figures after the dot).
So, there is 2 solutions :
1 – I’m wrong and somebody will demonstrate it very soon
2 – The Precision(lvl) is actually just kitten because useless for the calculation and is here only to make things pretty and less questionable.
Please tell me I wrong. because the only other rational possibility is that somebody can relate the Precision(lvl) to anything else in the equation without using a random number like 916 or 895 that actually doesn’t mean anything.
My biggest bet was to relate the increase of Pp% per level with the increase of primary attributes : I am sorry but it doesn’t match.

Quite big dye problem on the helmet of the Dark Templar armor.
Explanations and screenshot here : (I am sorry I didn’t see that topic 2 months ago)
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Dark-templar-armor-bugged/first#post5034735
Hi there,
Well I guess nobody cares but still, I do want to report this one : the helmet colour and/or brightness doesn’t match with the other parts.
Screenshot attached. It looks like the colour doesn’t change when in shadows but anyway even in the overview the tint is not the same. The hair of my character seems sometimes not being affected by shadows as well so might have something to do with.
Quite frustrating to have a nice walk in such a beautiful game and suddenly get ungly stuff like this (meanwhile I am just going to turn off helmet display).
Not sure it is related to what you are talking about but it also happens for ore, wood and stuff like this on the map. I always unzoom 1 time just to see a bit farther at the point that those things are not displayed on the edges, they appears when they are within a certain radius from me. The fact is that sometime they appears on the map and then disappears like half a second later. And when I’m looking for the ore that appeared and disappeared like this I can never find it.
100% sure this is not my imagination.
/sigh
I thought you were joking around but actually you were serious.
Well I guess the goal in Pearl Islet beach is more like bikinis than undergarments, but the devs used those because less work and look the same.
So what about the NPCs that are wearing unique swimwear and different colored dyes for the default undergarments? The work is already done.
C’mon the problem is not about the work done or not. Actually why not? I can’t wait for the wbtbp “World Boss Tour Bikini Party” sounds awesome what do you think? seriously we are in guild wars, not in the sims.
I can only speculate how much better this game would run on decent rigs if ANet did physics and such on the GPU (physics also applies to clothing btw)
Any directX upgrade would be frigging amazing both for quality & performance but even that would probably never happen. I guess this also has to do with our fps problems.
(edited by Exun.7825)
[…] and they should sell various kinds of undergarments on the gem store […]
And maybe also some vertical bars so people could /poledance.
Looks like someone hasn’t seen the NPCs in Southsun’s Pearl Islet beach. The attire is literally in game already.
/sigh

Yep, what cpu do you have? I personally have a R9 290 but with an old i5 2500k (but still, 3,3 to 3,7 GHz) and I got pretty low fps (~30 to 40 in cities and ~18 to 22 during a WBT).
I disabled all reflects since I know it is very demanding on GW2 and indeed, in some places I can get +10 fps.
[…] and they should sell various kinds of undergarments on the gem store […]

This is not because things are not fully appropriate that it is morally acceptable to make it worse.
Rialen : I support what you said.
By the way I don’t understand why people always think that majority = truth (especially when they are part of the majority and make it an excuse)
(edited by Exun.7825)
If gloves, helmet and shoulder display is an option, it is because it isn’t inappropriate so Anet gives us the choice to tweak how our characters looks like. fighting naked is absolutely inappropriate.
You can already walk around almost naked in LA.
People need fences
Anet staff can explain why things are not possible. This is not because a part of the community is too stubborn to understand things that Anet have to lie to them or ignore them to avoid them to turn angry.
Ah wait… it looks like we are talking about politic
People just shouldn’t expect Anet to make all the changes they want. In my opinion the simple fact to know that our suggestions are at least read by the staff is already great.
Imagine if this suggestion become true and then Anet answer to most popular thread by :
-We are sorry to announce you that TP fee’s wont be removed because they are necessary evil for the stability of the market. Without these ones, the game would die in 3 months.
or :
-This suggestion caught our attention, we are looking into it.
or even :
-This isn’t the direction we want for the game.
I think people would probably stop voting for impossible suggestions because of the officials statements.

I don’t know what to say guys, it looks like as the game, the forum is actually a very beautiful box with a dirty mechanic inside… This game is intended to last quite a long time and to be modified from time to time, maybe Anet should have invest more for the future of the game, now it’s so hard to make changes.
I suggest then to talk about the suggestion without considering these issues that shouldn’t be, otherwise we can bury it.
Ok now I understand for the multiple accounts thanks.
(edited by Exun.7825)
So where are people to go to make this list and vote? It certainly isn’t something one can do on the forums…
Is this a reddit-kind of thing, or what?
Be aware, some players have up to 30 accounts. Still, as stated above, the Devs don’t find ‘survey’ data really helpful.
I thought it as a new feature for the forum. Yes I know you are going to tell me I’m crazy but look : this is 1 web page displaying 1 list and you have to add a tick box to the new topic page. I don’t know really but in my opinion a web designer intern can do it in 2 weeks.
In my opinion such a functionality could be very helpful not only for GW2’s forum but for a lot of forums. Actually every forum where you can find a lot of suggestions.
So if I understand well, Devs don’t care about the community? I don’t think so, I know they have their own goals but I think they are also listening even just a bit the community and sometime maybe few ideas from this community could happen.
30 accounts? seriously? is it legal? and for what? for running bot farming? I don’t see the point to have so many accounts otherwise. If you know the reason why people do this please tell me because I’m lost.
Well, I need to sleep, see you tomorrow.
You just have like 1 line 1 suggestion with the popularity points:
92 [check box] Title – quick description linked to a topic
52 [check box] Title – quick description linked to a topic
15 [check box] Title – quick description linked to a topic
11 [check box] Title – quick description linked to a topic
People can only tick 1 check box at a time, increasing the popularity points of the related suggestion by 1. If a person change his mind and tick another box, he will automatically untick the first suggestion and this one will lose the point of popularity related to this person.
When anybody create a suggestion topic he will have to tick a box (and fill the reduced title & description) to automatically send the suggestion to the list. The suggestion can get votes from people on the list page or on the topic page, but the suggestion only appear in the list if it is a top 20 for example, so you avoid people spamming the list.
It’s not so easy to implement I know that, but if it is done that way it would be fully automated.
I would also like to read people thinking how can it be done in a better way, this suggestion is probably far from being perfect.
For the fact people can do multiple account, well I don’t see the point because you have to buy the game to have another account right? and if they got 2 votes instead of 1 on their own suggestion, it is not competitive enough over the entire community.
(edited by Exun.7825)
Well, I didn’t say that devs would have to follow the community, they have “carte blanche”. They are actually gathering the forum to know what are the gamers thinking about the game, so I think that it could at least be a useful tool for them, not only the community.
Didn’t know it has been asked before, I need to find that topic..
All is in the title. with such a list, it would be so easy for Anet to see what people really want and with how much weight.
This list could just have a title with very short definition, and a link to the related topic. Each GW account could support 1 suggestion maximum in the list at the same time. It is possible to change once per day. The suggestions could be trimmed by popularity
This way we would really see what are the most wanted changes.
If you make a mistake contact them and tell them you have a cat, they will understand
When only 1% of people would have one we will be able to talk about legendariness.
Um, you do realize, that likely the number of people with legendaries is still way below 1%, right?
Does anyone have figures? I would like to know the sharp truth.
If it is considering the number of items per number of total accounts then this is bad because a non negligible amount of total accounts may not even have reached lvl 80 or are not playing anymore. And some people own several legendaries.
Sometime you go in HL areas and can see like a battalion of Twilight, it make me feel penniless. I’ve got Cobalt which is easy to spot cause of the blue fire and I’ve the impression I meet more people with Twilight than with Cobalt
Stop talking around what they actually said in the past and let’s focus on the interesting part of this topic : will any Dx upgrade happen? Could be nice to read an official statement from the staff about it, very easy question for them.
Dx11 (or 12) could improve performance a lot but also improve the graphics because of few effects and post processes which would become available and very easy to implement. So if they want to reach as many of their fans as possible then in my opinion Dx11 is still a good idea.
However I don’t think it will happen because it would be to much efforts for just a little more comfort for the fans and GW2 already has two and a half years, they are focusing on HoT and then they will take some holidays and gather some money, and finally they will start thinking about another extension (because the first goal of every company in the entire world is to make money) or maybe GW3 but I think it’s a bit too early.
A) proper might stacking in the team
B) proper build, traits and positioning
C) using the appropriate sigils and potions for the content you are doingAll of the above will result in far more damage (or defense) than a 2-4%
So the actual change to Ascended armor for that extra 2-4% is only worth it if you have everything else already. It’s the very last thing on the list..
This is not comparable, and even if it was, this is only your opinion. You can have all together and you can get them in the order you want.
you’d get +5% weapondmg from the weapon (not +5% dmg as damage also scales with power
wiki:Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
So +5% weapondmg = +5% dmg (sharp)
Crafting ascended gear is not so hard nor so long. I crafted my first piece which was a chest after 3 weeks, and I don’t think I am an outsider, I started the game with a friend and we both crafted our ascended gears together.
What is very funny is when I got level 80 and bought all my level 80 green stuff for few pa, then got full exotic armor from crafting when leveling up armorsmith and also dungeons. I told him “oh ascended gear is so close to exotic and so expensive, I’ll never get that and anyway I don’t want it” few days after I was doing it.
Few tips : use your money, don’t stock it for your dreams : make them happen. And also have a look at all your currencies, they can be used or converted. Some people don’t really know how money they really have.
(edited by Exun.7825)
When only 1% of people would have one we will be able to talk about legendariness. currently there are so many people who have not one but several of them.
In addition, get a legendary is related mostly to luck and time spend on the game.
What you need is a larger scale test. Do it with other peoples, for a total of 1000 rings, and then you will have more weight in saying that your test is representative of the reality.
After that, there are other issues like how are done the tests and are testers cheating or making mistakes? You can never be sure when someone shows you a screenshot that he truly put the items in that natural order or if he made mistakes or intentionally faked patterns. (I am pointing out objectivity and reliability problems of human beings, don’t take it for yourself).
Having said that for me the closer way to know the truth is if an Anet staff member come spread the holy words “things are calculated that way” then we will have to trust him and shut our mouths because the probability he would say the truth is much higher than the probability that any test would say the truth.

Thanks Fenrir this is a very complete answer, much more than I expected actually.
@Phys : Actually I am on the side of active defense, dodge etc.. this is just that for the last post it would have been messy since I was focusing on numbers.
Just tried to be objective (so I didn’t talk about active defense). Do you know where I can find this already known stuff? can’t find that on the wiki.
About healing stuff, well I agree about the break from the tired old trinity but in the other hand, maxing this stat increase my skill 6 from 4500 to 5200 heal and I got 18000 hit points, I don’t know anything else about healing power cause never used it but these numbers do not really appetize me.
Considering the toughness of the dungeons, according to the wide range of stats we can access I think it can be really hard for zerkers (but faster) and still quiet for others except that the zerk-stack-in-a-corner strategy is ruining this theory (well… back to the beginning)
Hello guys and sorry I didn’t do my homework : read everything, because it’s too long, but anyway here are some figures that can help us to understand things :
Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
(From wiki)
And
Average damage = Damage done * (1 + Critical chance * (Critical damage – 1))
(From my brain, so might not be true)
Sooo… I did some calculations in excel (ascended stuff, level 80, no traits, and jewels instead of runes/sigils for simplicity), and here we are : in one hand with zerker stats you have a dps 3.5 times better, but in the other hand damage reduction with toughness can be 1.4 to 1.6 times better and health quantity can be 2.0 to 2.4 times better depending on which one is the main.
For healing power, forget it, you can get a multiplier of maximum 1.2 approx. for the health regained from a skill. Anet wants to be sure there are no healers in GW2 obviously.

Thaddeus : I don’t understand if you are mad at me or not.
I’m never mad on internet
I just hate some toast with nutella and banana, how can someone be mad after that.
Haha ok, because sometimes on hot topics like this one I have the impression people are writing on a zerk stats keyboard.
I personally think that nutella is OP and need some nerf.
To get back to the topic, in GW1 sometimes we were looking for “how to survive” before “how to kill the enemies” and so there were some setups and group strategy, and we had a lot of different ways to get the stuff done. In GW2 you don’t have those variables, everybody has 1 selfheal and should dps, you put some banners, you got some might and everybody can dodge whatever the armor they are wearing. So of course dps is the leading factor.
(I’m not saying that we should necessarily go back to dedicated classes with tanks and healers and everything.)
Maybe we should stop writing so much and go strait to the point, and also stop talking about communication issues because look at it! before we read a page another one has been written… hard to follow
Thaddeus : I don’t understand if you are mad at me or not.
The gripe I have is that zerker stat is way forgiving, the damage boost you get from it is not on par with the risk you take up by wearing it. It doesn’t become a glass cannon, just a cannon.
/agree. And I think it’s because of dodge powa
I agree with the fact that some active defenses should be affected by stats, or at least I think that it is a problem that they are not. You have active defense like dodges available and at full capacity whatever the build you are playing and it make other defensive alternatives useless since wasting stats on it will only affect a little part of your overall defense. In addition if you play it well it is also more powerful.
About the “well played, active defense is better” : well, in PvE the enemies are no brain and scripted, all you have to do is to push a key at the right moment and oh, you just cancelled 100% of the incoming damage during a sec. You can do it twice in a row, when you don’t have it then you have to wait like few sec and it’s up… seriously even if you are not good at it, it is already effective. (I would have a different opinion about PvP but we are not talking about PvP here).
I do not want to set the bar myself and tell people that what I say is the truth, i’m just watching and what I see is that dodging glass canon strategy is played by the overwhelming majority (In my mind). for me it’s a fact, and I don’t like it. What I would like is more diversity. <snip>
Well, I don´t like a lot of things people do in this game either, but do you see me opening a new topic about how much Staff Guardians suck in dungeons every godkitten week?
Why can´t we all accept that different people have different opinions and different preferences (even if you think they are stupid), mind our own business (!), respect each others LFGs and let the devs decide whether or not something needs to be changed in this game huh?
Ok so because I give my own opinion does it necessary mean that I don’t respect other’s opinions? I actually don’t agree with that, but please, take it easy, no offence.
(edited by Exun.7825)
I do not want to set the bar myself and tell people that what I say is the truth, i’m just watching and what I see is that dodging glass canon strategy is played by the overwhelming majority (In my mind). for me it’s a fact, and I don’t like it. What I would like is more diversity.
At the beginning of the game I was like “oh this boss is harder than few others so I’ll switch on my defensive set to get more block, sustainability and everything” and after couple of weeks I was like “well, I now know how to dodge so now dodging glass canon is the only smart choice” And I’m bored of it. I wish that both strategies had their own utility depending on where you got and who you have to kill. In PvP you sometime have to think about it, in PvE you don’t really.
Another thing is that in people’s mind armor mean passive and dodge mean active. Maybe we can make the armor tanking a bit more active (I don’t have idea right now but It could be a solution).
If we make armor tanking more interesting, even if it’s easier because nothing to actively do, people will still go for dodge strategy if they can handle it, because the higher dps will allow them to finish faster. Time is for me very important, and I think that it also is in the mind of a lot of players.
(edited by Exun.7825)
passive defense is not a major part of high level play.
Why should it ever be when you have a choice of the two?
One involves you doing nothing, the other requires you to actively manage skills, dodges and utilities in order to survive.
[…] only about 1% (and that is being generous) of the games playerbase is actually capable of doing it when it matters.
Active defence should be more worth it than passive defense ok BUT more risky = you fail you get messed up. And it’s actually too easy to play dodge, obviously and by far.
Play active defense reward you in the way you can spend stats in DPS. And in my opinion, have an active defense that is easy, more tanky and allow big dps is actually poorly measured.
This defense should be harder to access, and both active and passive defense should have their utility in the way you don’t have to obviously go for only 1 copy past wiki setup
Edit : 1% of players can dodge properly? well, I recommend you to go for the Crucible of Eternity and fight against subject alpha. This boss is defeated by 99% of the players doing proper dodges and if you are not full zerk it’s not easy to find a group.
(edited by Exun.7825)
The only reason why people go full zerk is because dodges are too much OP. Even if your armor is made of paper you can still easily avoid damage.
In my opinion Anet should consider reintroducing the standard armor tanking because if at the beginning they wanted to kill tanking, people actually just started dodge tanking
They should make armor scaling much more efficient in a such way that it is worth it in dungeon to sacrifice DPS and get higher survivability! And then introduce a new dodge mechanic that firstly do not allow invincibility : dodgers should avoid a variable amount of the incoming damage, let’s say a certain % that can change according to some parameters like the timing of the dodge, some conditions etc… and this % also determine how much chance you have to trigger conditions (this is like you try to dodge a blade but maybe the blade can touch you anyway but because of the dodge it’s not a so bad wound and you also get less bleeding stacks). And secondly dodge efficiency should be related to you armor scaling : the less armor you got, the more the dodges will be efficient.
Another problem that I see is that AoE damages shouldn’t be dodgeable. the dodge actually is useful in the way you get out of the area. And this also is the reason why people stack : they don’t care about the fact dodging make them moving arround and avoiding risky situations, they are only interested in the fact they get 1s invincibility even if they are just rolling themselves in the fire.
(edited by Exun.7825)
Personally I miss GW1 a lot. Not because I didn’t play it for a long time, but because I was disappointed about how things changed. It used to be a time when developers tried to balance everything and kept the game from getting messy, and for quite a long time they did not too bad at all. I guess they get bored of it after Nightfall and they cut short by setting fences between classes. I can understand why, maintenance would have been horrible since build creativity had unlimited potential.
Anyway after that my passion about GW1 disappeared and I am very sad about it.
