Fractals - When will we get the fixes?

4 man works in some but not others, e.g. Dredge fractal. The loss of a party member when one also has to pull leavers at low levels seriously impacts dps.

Also, having to do these as a 4 man group is just a cop-out. Its 5 man content!

Thanks for the link.

Sadly its just a fix for DCing players that I’m interested in on that page and notice specifically ANet didn’t address replacing dropped players in any way. The level option is nice but is a very poor substitute for a proper lfg tool I think.

Does this mean people leaving the party will still punish the rest of the party by making them have to restart from scratch if someone leaves?

Fractals is currently a nightmare. Personally I’m up to level 3 but trying to get my core guildies through level 1. We normally have to pick up 1-2 random people as well. The issues are well known including:

- DC of a party member excluding them entirely from continuing
- Trying to find a replacement party member = starting from absolute scratch
- Impatient PUG members quitting after one failed attempt, especially on the swamp fractal, which is further impacted by the above

This is making GW2 especially un-fun for everyone involved, to the point that guildies are trying other games until these issues are fixed and possibly not returning. We just failed our 5th attempt at level 1 and its not mechanics or difficulty that is the issue. The core issues are technical ones and they need to be fixed ASAP.

So I have heard rumor of some fixes coming. When exactly (date!) can we expect them and what exactly are they going to fix? The current state is so bloody frustrating and we are hemorrhaging people left right and center as they lose patience at the lack of progress..

How to get people to spread across all maps

in Suggestions

Posted by: FaceYourFear.6902

FaceYourFear.6902

Nice idea but why just stop at minipets?

Make a few things like parts of the legendary recipes only obtainable and bind on pickup from every part of the map, then people can pick them up while they do their 100% map completion, and not just buy them from the TB. Seriously, I think anyone who can get a legendary weapon deserves them and probably has the time on their hands for this!

Community Engagement?

in Suggestions

FaceYourFear.6902

My suggestion is a simple one: please rethink your strategy on community engagement specifically on distributing information. At the moment official announcements are spread over the website, forums, email and more. Also many a developer or other employee makes some kind of statement or official announcement on one of these platforms that misses the mark, lacks clarifying information or isn’t replicated across platforms clearly. These then sometimes get picked up by Reddit for example and blown way out (looking at Ascended items for example here).

Personally I work in a technical position but that requires extensive engagement using similar platforms with large multinational businesses. In a way its similar to what you do at Anet here, but these people hold my job and pay check directly in their hands (especially if its the payroll system!). I would not distribute the information you do in quite the same approach, rather I would make clear to everyone a single official source, then use the other mediums like email/forums/etc to broadcast the exact same message each time as much as possible. I would also engage some large communities more direct to make sure a very clear message gets across, for example there is nothing wrong with unofficially re-posting links on community forums like Reddit instead of relying on the community to relay your messages. I would also regularly repeat in my messages where the official source can be found, say your GW2 news page.

While I don’t think that allowing developers etc to directly engage with the community is a bad thing, I do shutter sometimes when I see what is said and how its delivered. Like everything as well, timeliness is also a really important thing, as is repetition of your message especially for ongoing issues like performance. Give the community regular updates in a quick and official and efficient manner, this will buy you the time to fix the issue properly without all the rage. Just make sure the community know you care and reassure them frequently.

Also I’ve noticed I hardly ever get an announcement email from you these days, it appears Google picks most of them up as spam. This highlights the pitfalls of relying on a single medium for some messages and not others!

Hopefully someone reads this, I really do like GW2 and so does most of my family. We personally struggle at times to get accurate information about the game though and sometimes even we argue because we’ve gotten our information from different sources but the truth can be somewhere in between.

@wauwi

While I don’t doubt there are optimization problems with the game, you are just feeding the troll more. Given the laptop he is trying to play GW2 on I’m not sure he will understand half of what you wrote (most of which is good).

I feel for you as well if you are getting the performance you mention on your rig. Have you also tried an SSD? My rig is an Ivy Bridge i5 3570k @ 4.7Ghgz +16GB RAM + Vertex4 + GTX 670 OC and although I don’t get what the troll you mentioned gets, most things except the recent one time events are extremely playable. I compared the performance I was getting to my partner’s PC (Core2Duo + GTX275) and the difference was laggy and horrible (mine) vs almost completely unplayable. Yet she managed to get some eggs in the first event where I could not! Go figure..

Edit: several of the posts above mine are the reasons I went with an 3570k and overclocked it instead of an expensive i7. The extra cores and hyperthreading are indeed wasted on most games, no point kittening about it, GW2 is not unique in this regard and games that might take advantage of it are the rare exception. Welcome to the console era of PC gaming!

The OP is using a cheap low-end i3M-based laptop.

The performance he is getting is what I’d expect – phenomenally bad. There is no way he played GW2 in beta with settings maxed without phenomenally bad performance on this setup. I think you might all have been trolled.

Heh thanks but I’m not running the beta, I’m running the same version that you will find in the shops on your DVDs in about 30 days. GW2 should have started testing well before now and would have had access to the same version I have for a while now.

So its something that GW2 is gonna have to support shortly

Windows 8 - No mouse cursor?

So a very odd thing happen after upgrading my PC to Windows 8 – GW2 no longer has a visible mouse cursor on the screen! This occurs on two machines where I have GW2 installed:-

- 1 PC running a Core 2 Duo E8500 + NVIDIA 275 with latest recommended drivers from the NVIDIA website
- 1 old Dell laptop running Intel T7300 Core 2 Duo + Intel GMA X3100

Both of these PCs had GW2 running fine with the mouse cursor visible on Windows 7.

Oh I know Win 8 is not released yet – fortunately for me I have an MSDN sub and access to the RTM version already

Does anyone know if this is in fact a bug or know of a way to restore the mouse cursor? All I do know is that GW2 is bloody hard to play without one..
