What happened to SoR?

SoR is the best example of the conflict that has been going on in many servers between guilds that only want to open field fight a few hours a night, and the other guilds + pugs that are still looking to play the ppt and defense game. The two mix like oil and water, but are kinda forced to live in the same house.

I don’t think either group is entirely to blame or entirely free of blame. Servers need fighting guilds so it’s not all ridiculous siege bunkering and WP abuse. Servers also need people willing to defend and do the more monotonous task like upgrading, repairing, and building siege so the whole map is not paper k-train bait. Unfortunately though the fighting guilds often run around chest thumping and disparaging players that play ppt and want to defend, and those players start to resent that attitude.

This is a really good summary of the fights/ppt dilemma that every server must deal with. Ppt-ers say that fights that don’t contribute to ppt don’t matter because they don’t help win. Fighters say that “winning” doesn’t matter because the winner is determined soley by the systemic and non-competitive advantage of coverage. Everyone searches for a perspective that gives their WvW playtime meaning and purpose.

Then there is also the wvw guild vs pvx players schism, bringing on the dilemmas of pragmatic elitism vs idealistic solidarity, guild vs server loyalty, resentment of guilds for their percieved “leeching” of tier position, resentment of most pvxers as “fairweathers”, etc. Everyone feels slighted by the “others”, player morale plumments, negativity and toxicity pervade all guilds on the server, guilds transfer to save themselves.

Feature Pack.. Balance breaking?

The ferocity nerf looks like a bad change. There were maybe two power builds in the entire game that needed to be looked at (backstab thief, destroyer war), but instead of tweaking those specific builds, ferocity is a sweeping change that negatively affects nearly every power build.

The PvE rationale for the change does not make sense either, as after the change zerk will still be the most effective choice. Dungeons will just take slightly longer to complete. Big improvement!

Still, ferocity will probably not lead to a large paradigm shift for melees. It will reduce melee damage output, but much of that damage can be replenished with the 2nd sigil coming to two-handed weapons. Many players will feel safe to replace some tankish gear with zerky gear, replenishing even more lost damage. Conditions will still be ineffective against melee balls with nearly unlimited group cleanse, so the overall dynamic of melee play is unlikely to change.

However, several specific condition builds (blackwater mesmer, perp thief) already have the edge in peripheral/roaming/dueling situations. It is difficult to see how the small numbers meta won’t devolve into a dot/hot passive spam war. So conditions are going to be “balanced” by being clearly superior in one situation in exchange for being nearly useless in another. Perhaps that’s a fair trade, but it’s clearly not a desirable situation.

Discussing 2v1 is not bad

It’s fairly obvious that this thread isn’t about 2v1 in the abstract. Blackgate is upset that they are losing for what they perceive to be no good reason. And it is true that they are. The problem is that they were never winning for any good reason, either. Winning due to coverage/population and losing due to continuous 2v1 are the same. These are systemic factors that have nothing to do with how well any side played from a strategic or tactical point of view.

As I posted in the previous thread, I really do hope that this experience will finally teach T1 that the score is competitively meaningless. It is not indicative of how well you, your guild, or your server played.

PPT is a joke. WvW is about fights.

The truth is that this topic is far behind the times. Good guilds stopped ppting a long time ago. Present day, not only are they bored of ppt, they are bored of the pug farming and blobbing that constitutes 99% of an organized raid.

The only interesting thing to do in this game is GvG. The level of player support for such an unsupported game mode is a testament to how sophisticated the combat system and current meta really is. It’s a shame that neither this nor any other type of guild-centric activity was ever emphasized by Anet.

Best WvW Guilds out there

This thread:

NA Players:
“Here’s some guilds I think are alright. (Insert list).”
“Nah, that guilds pretty average, they have a lot of room for improvement.

EU Players:
“NA sucks, EU better.”
“Even EU PvE guilds are better than all of NA combined.”
“Even though we’ve never versed or seen any NA guilds in action, ALL EU KICK YO BUTT ALL DAY BRAH.”
“EU players stomp NA all day even though we’ve never fought any of them.”

I was expecting NA to be the idiotic trash talkers. and EU to be the mature ones.

I guess EU WvW is boring and stale at the moment, only reason for the dumb outbursts.

You know, considering your name, id have thought you would have grasped that concept rather quickly. When EP came over they were like 4th or 5th in EU, and i’m willing to bet that’s gone down since then.

They willingly put themselves at a disadvantage to gvg EU. You could be at least a little bit gracious in victory.

Uh misread and interpret your own meanings much. Not once was the desire to win even brought up. Before you let your anger type something absurd try comprehending what is typed.

You endorsed the most certifiably uninformed and misguided post in the entire thread. A post which, after being debunked, the author tried to prop up by attacking the character of his more informed counterpart. Even though that person wasn’t even from Mag and was just explaining the facts of the matter so that no one would be persuaded by his erroneous narrative.

The desire to win is necessary for the server stacking argument to hold up, because it is the only logical reason why anyone would intentionally stack a server. The fact that they obviously do not care about winning is just one way to debunk the argument. One could also point out the myriad of opponents that exist on the other T2 servers, such as Agg, NS, HOPE, ONE, EK, ETA, etc. Or one could point out (as was done earlier) that Ark and PYRO have always been on Mag, and EP only went there so that they could fight the SoS guilds because they had previously been on SoS. Or one could point out that because DB rose to tier 2 just one week before the tier was locked due to the tournament, but no one views DB as being a permanent fixture in T2, it is inevitible and normal that 95% of fighting guilds would end up on SoS and Mag at the moment.

I just love these "guild raids"

Facet.5914

A WvW guild is ideally a group of like-minded individuals who want to be a part of a coordinated team that plays, works, and improves together during regularly scheduled “raids.” If a player does not find that idea appealing, they are not forced to join. If a guild or it’s leadership is not living up to those expectations, a player is not forced to stay.

Spending time waiting to start is a failure of both leadership and membership. Regular raid times need to be clearly communicated by leadership. Members need to take it upon themselves to show up on map and in TS on time or early. If the guild doesn’t have enough players to start right away, the guild needs to recruit more.

Build debate is a forum topic. Everyone should know what they are running, and what their teammates are running, well before a raid starts. Guild builds must be faithfully implemented, so that guild leadership can accurately interpret weather a build or composition needs to change.

Rage-kicking members is a sign of unstable leadership. Deflecting wipe-blame away from leadership is a sign of unstable leadership.

WvW guilds typically dislike tag-alongs because they can sometimes cause more harm than good. If he dies he will rally the enemy team. If he drops a field on a regroup, he could negate tens of thousands of would-be healing.
