Vendor Option: Show Only Useable Items

I’m not sure if this has been posted already, I didn’t find anything while searching. I’ve been playing since beta and I have to say I’m surprised there’s still no dropdown menu option, something in the user settings, or in the vendor interface that lets us show only useable items. I play as an Elementalist so why would I care what stats and cost the heavy armor has? Why would I want to have to sort through Longbows and Greatswords just to get to my Staff or Daggers or whatever?

I don’t know why Anet hasn’t had this function in the game but here’s my reasoning for asking for it.

I went out to Orr today to get a dps set of shoulders and ended up getting the right stats, just the wrong armor type. So I’m stuck with a pair of heavy armor shoulders that is only bound to my Ele (so I can’t give it to my Warrior OR Guardian) and I come to find out I also can’t break them down for ectos to sell to make some gold at least. So I just wasted 42k Karma on an item I’ll have to delete. Normally I do look closer but the vendor I bought 3 pieces from at a different temple has light armor as the first set shown. The Dwayna temple shows heavy armor first. It isn’t even consistent.

I went back to Lion’s Arch to get some Jugs of Liquid Karma out of the bank to get back to 42k Karma to buy the correct piece of light armor dps gear. What do I find after I get back up to 42k Karma? The temple is contested again. Talk about rubbing salt in a wound.

I know it’s my fault for not looking closer (normally I’m OCD and check the piece 4 times for stats, slot, and type before buying) but it would be really nice to add something like this that seems standard in other games. They managed to add it into the SWTOR GTN because people there kept bringing it up. It would help in our vendors and Trading Post as well. It would also cut down on the clutter of useless items in the windows.

Up until today I didn’t care if dueling was in the game or not. I personally wouldn’t use it.

I attempted to do some structured with my BF today and of course I got my face pwnt off by a bunch of thieves that stealth bomb you. After about 3 matches I get into this one where someone let everybody know in map chat they were using the map to “duel.” We were instructed to leave if we weren’t okay with that.

I started to play according to the objectives because I figured it was just one person on each team. I wasn’t okay with it but I could at least play my match since the rest of my team wasn’t useless. I capped the Henge. I was then blown up in map chat and yelled at for being “rude” and quite a list of other things. I proceeded to explain that if they wanted dueling that bad, they should get active and take to the forums at the very least. You won’t ever get what you want if you take no action after all.

If I go into an SPVP match, I want to be able to play some SPVP. I shouldn’t be kicked out by other players that won’t play the match. I’m not the one that’s doing something wrong after all. If people don’t want to play a match, they shouldn’t join one. If people joined a match so that they could walk around and RP, they’d be equally productive as these “duelers.” Basically what it boils down to in my head is this: If you don’t want to play the match, don’t join.

Give people the ability to duel. Get it out of the SPVP maps please. This now effects those of us who wouldn’t even use it.

“If Arenanet is smart they don’t make the cost too high. They want players to constantly shift appearances for smaller sums over time rather than one larger sum barely ever.

So many players are vain and would waste a lot of cash on this if the option was there."

@Zzulu As much as I agree with your statement, I doubt they’d do something like that. Valve makes a killing off of the impulse buy model. I think ANet didn’t do such a great job of trying to get the same effect. Too much focus on how to get the most profit per transaction and not enough strategy over prolonged income. There’s countless forums about it, most are complaining, but there’s some good points hidden within a few.

As much as I love the gold→gem option, I think that if it’s there, people will expect to be able to use it. With the rates currently trending (it was something like 50s to 100 gems before the Halloween event started), even a 200 gem barber ticket for one visit would be a bit much. 1g barber visit for those of us who tend to visit the barber upwards at 10 times a day is extremely steep. We’d just skip it entirely, so no profit for ANet. The complaining that there is now over prices for items in BLTC would just skyrocket if they added a barber token into the mix. Another high demand item that would gouge pockets wouldn’t be a good thing right now.

All I can think about is the achievements tab in WoW that kept track of the money a player spent at the barber. My druid got up to 4.5k gold spent before I quit because of patch 4.0. That is what impulse buying does to people. Give me a 15s fee or something for hair and tattoo swapping, I’ll go to town with buying the crap out of it. I’m guessing the amount of gems spent at the GW2 barber would be triple since I could match the hair color to the dye on my gear… Sylvari just have so many opportunities to coordinate their hair, glow, and skin colors with gear. A gift and a curse almost.

Attunement Swapping is to Blame

I know everybody hates the comparisons to WoW when playing ANY other game but I have to bring this up. I played WoW for something like 5 years and in that 5 years I played the same class as my main and never deviated because I fell in love with it at level 1. I was lucky and it was also the first character I ever made.

Race? Night Elf. Class? Druid. Spec? Restoration for the last 4 years out of 5 (started in late vanilla). What did you have to do in PVP to have to be as effective and annoying to the other team as possible? Shape-shift your butt off.

GW2 race? Sylvari. Primary profession? Elementalist. Style? Staff Water support. What do you have to do as an Elementalist in pvp to be as effective and annoying to the other team as possible? Attunement swap your butt off.

Simply shape-shifting into any random thing won’t be effective. Neither will swapping to any random attunement. You have to know which spell to use when and where and how to manage the cooldowns. Swapping attunements to get to these spells is just part of the class. It’s almost a personality thing that each class has, a certain vibe that goes with it. When you are one with the elements or animal shapeshifts, you can be extremely effective. You just have to mesh with the class well is all.

So my question is, why all the complaints about the attunement swapping? If you don’t like it, just like some people hated shape shifting, just find another class that doesn’t do that or ask for better balancing and number tweaks? I know it may seem like a dead horse and people feel that change should be implemented anyway, but it seems like the only class that has something this unique isn’t being given a proper chance by some.

I had the same issue. The first time it happened was when I defended the docks. Mine got stuck at somewhat of an inactive moment where there was nothing to attack. I ended up running out into the red area on the map to port out and reset the instance. That fixed the defense of the docks bit for the time being.

My current problem is when I need to retake the docks. It’s glitching out here too. Only my problem seems to be that there’s too many mobs on the retake where on the defense they were all gone. My NPC guard people end up dropping like flies and Trahearne took a serious dirt nap. I’m left alone with endless waves of mobs. Think I was in that state for about 30 minutes before I just let them kill me to start from a checkpoint.

That didn’t fix it though. I’m currently sitting on the edge of the dock and there’s no risen around anywhere. I revived Trahearne and we’re staring out onto the nice blue ocean. But yet the docks still aren’t mine somehow.

Elementalist Underwater Elite skill

The elite skill is a watery vortex of doom thing. There’s only one ability to choose from so it’s not an issue of simply choosing the wrong one and it disappearing once you go in the water. For those who don’t have an Elementalist, there currently is NO spell for the underwater elite slot. It doesn’t even show up in the character sheet for purchase. They had it in the betas before launch, so I’m guessing it’s just a bug.

Just don’t say bad words

This jsut simply isn’t true. Go read the the user agreement again. It is completely open to interpretation. Cussing is one of the least offensive things you can say. Wanna know what I got a 3 day ban for.

Here it is. “I used to own a flashlight, but it filled up.” replace the a in flash light with a E.

I’m 36, I’m a liberal as they come. I’ve never said the N word except one time when I was 18 to a friend who about killed me. I’ve never argued with anyone in game. I said that little stupid joke and that was it. I was locked out 3 minutes later.

I dare any Anet employee to post my entire chat history from headstart on.

I’m only telling you this because I have never seen a company be so ban happy before in my 15 years as a pc gamer.

You’re safest just not using in game chat at all. You let yourself slip one time with something that can be interpretative as sexual, harassment, condescending, etc you are risking your account. We all know how easily someone can take offense to any random thing.

I keep reading down this page and it seems every time I see a post by you, I completely agree with it. Whether people curse all the time or not, it seems they’re at risk of being made an example of. My main focus is usually curse words because they’re easier to pinpoint and most often the main focus when talking about offensive language. I didn’t know you could get in trouble for a fleshlight joke. My friends make those jokes all the time and it’s a ban I never would have seen coming. One of them had a pink Moa pet named Fleshlight at one point too.

Only thing I have to say is that MMOs are popular because you interact with other people just like you do in real life. In real life at say a mall, you can walk down the hall and you hear what everyone is saying in “General Chat.” You have no right to go over with a role of duct-tape and cover people’s mouths if you don’t like what they have to say. What you CAN do is stop listening. The equivalent of that in an MMO is the profanity filter and block lists. Simple.

I’ll stop posting on this, I get pretty long. Basically anytime you post, add a ditto mark from me. >.>

I wouldn’t trust any chat in game. I was 3 day banned for mentioning a flesh light in a joke. Literally the only thing I said. I wasn’t arguing with anyone, harassing or any of the above. I simply made a short quip about a flesh light and was almost instantly banned.

I would assume this.

You work in a large corp with a very strict HR department. There is a girl at work taht you’re not attracted to but you enjoy talking with her occasionally. One day you can tell she got a new haircut and you say “Hey, I really like your haircut” She smiles and says “thanks!” The next day you are called into the office with no explanation and fired on the spot.

Just imagine if you and your girlfriend break up and she’s resentful……..there goes your 1000 hour account. They will ban you for things way way less vulgar than swearing. It is probably best to avoid using chat entirely.

This is pretty much what my thoughts are. I’m of the same mind as Marilyn Manson when it comes to this stuff (look up the interview with Bill O’Reily). Most people intentionally use words to get a certain reaction or express something in a specific way and they can only get said reaction through use of profanity.

I also compare it to slang. Some people use it a lot and/or don’t even notice anymore. Slang makes a person sound uneducated and sometimes vulgar (imo) as well but we don’t filter it. “Profanity” makes a person sound crass (in their opinion) but yet we do have a filter for that. It’s just a style of talking and not everyone uses the same style. I could say I’m offended by the fact that people who use a lot of slang tell me I’m being rude and disrespectful to them because I use words they’re unfamiliar with, but I don’t. It’s pointless and a circular argument. I ignore them and move on.

Lisa Brown from Michigan comes to mind. She used a word that was neither slang nor a curse word and was penalized for it. She used the word “kitten” during a state senate debate regarding a certain aspect of women’s health and was barred from later debate because she used an “inappropriate” word.

There’s a profanity filter with a couple intensity settings for a reason. People who do not wish to see “offensive” language should be able to block it and can. It should also have a feature to add words to the list of blocked terms if a person is overly sensitive past default settings. So in the end it should be up to the sensitive people to protect themselves. It isn’t something that just sneaks up on a person. You run the risk of being hit by someone each time you drive so you buckle up as a precaution. Use the filter if you are at risk of being offended.

If they’re going to be extra hard on people for things as dumb as this, I’ll just stick to talking in vent only. It’ll cut back on social interaction and finding more people and making friends like me, but it’s what I’ll have to do to keep playing. I don’t trust calling/typing anything into chat during pvp or anything else at this point either. You never know what someone will find offensive and it’s best to just not take a chance. I’d like to keep my Elementalist and if I have to be paranoid every time I log in just to be able to keep her, then I will. I’m not one that falls into their category of “occasionally” swears so I won’t run the risk of typing into any public channels.

Sorry for the rant, this topic really irritates me. It’s the only thing that will always be a black mark on Anet for me. I hate feeling like someone is trying to re-raise fully grown adults that don’t have the same views as them. I have thoroughly enjoyed the game otherwise.

TL;DR If people are so sensitive to simple things like words, show them where the profanity filter is. If they can pay their bills, they can take care of themselves. Nobody should have to get banned because someone couldn’t click a check-box.

Edit/Post Script: Wow. Upon looking at this a couple hours later, they censored THAT word here too (the one that the female politician used). It’s proper terminology people!! Think female reproductive organ. Jeebus you’d think we were 3 year olds who don’t know about the “birds and the bees.” This is a huge insult to my intelligence, maturity, and gender. This is actually offending me that people want to refuse to acknowledge that I have one of these and the fact that I don’t want to use the term “hoo-hoo.” Ugh I’m actually mad enough I’m not going to bother with any extreme loyalty anymore. Man the rage right now… I can’t even describe it. I am what I am and I have what I have. GET OVER IT!

12. Don’t buy violet weapons from vendor in the Mists, it has no dps (its probably for WvWvW). Buy exotic orange weapons.

These are steady weapons. Basically they help you figure out how much flat damage your abilities do. They are not capable of critting and such. They’re there to help you out with new specs and testing them on the golem dummies in the Mists before you jump into Structured or WvWvW with your real pvp weapons. It takes out a number of variables when tweaking your spec so results will be more reliable.

Anyone know what happened to the Chef Vendors?

Was reading some of the forums and got the itch to log in for a little bit. Then I saw the cooking vendors were missing a few items. I restarted the game thinking it was a glitch on my end. I found this thread while doing so. Guess my restarting the game won’t “fix” it. I wanted to buy a bunch of chocolate to mix with my oranges. I was all excited to do some quick crafting only to find out I can’t.

Why did they make these drop related rather than nodes or just leave them alone? Did they post anything about this or are they making changes on the fly? I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s because of the guide out there that shows you how to get from 1 to 400 cooking with just karma vendor supplies. I don’t see what’s so bad about that since you still have to go out and complete hearts to get their cooking goods. At least heart vendors are a sneaky way of getting people to quest without noticing for the most part. Pure grinding is hard to hide and in my case hard to stomach.

Ah well, my mouse thumb doesn’t have a print on it anymore since I wore it off playing too much these past few days. Think I needed the break. Silver lining and all that.

I noticed while spell checking that as much as I didn’t intend to complain, I did. Sorry about that. I don’t do well with disappointment. I’ll probably consider new professions or just won’t level any till everything settles down. I’ll eventually get over it and go back to my 100% fangirl status.

Elementalist being killed in 1-2 hits

I’m always sad to hear it when someone says they’re having problems with Elementalist. I’m very attached to mine and have that mentality that it should be enjoyable for everyone (even for as unrealistic as that is). I have only really played a support “spec” which is full into water, arcana, and 10 into air while using a staff. I use it for both SPvP and the dungeons I’ve run. I’m level 63 right now and survivability with Elementalist isn’t bad at all if you know how to rotate spells and dodge. Though I assume this should be so with all classes since the devs wanted the game to be based on skill to separate itself from other MMOs where you can get away with face-tanking something. Kiting should be more your forte.

It’s a lot more hands on than other games and you need to pick it up a little quicker or you will have survivability problems. I don’t mean to be rude, it’s just that you can’t really blame a class for a learning curve issue. Everybody starts somewhere and it’s unfair in my opinion to buff people who know the ins and outs of the class to an omnipotent state to make up for people who are still learning the basics.

Also, use utility spells that mitigate damage. Arcane Shield, Armor of Earth, and Mist Form should be your three utility skills if you have survivability problems. Also as support you want the Glyph of Elementals ability for the elite slot. Use it while in water attunement and it heals you and your group. It can really help if your water heal skills are on cooldown.

You can use utility skills while casting another spell. You can also use your heal skill as well as elite skill while in Mist Form. So for one example, if you’re in the middle of casting Meteor Shower in a dungeon and 4 mobs come running your way, pop Arcane Shield to get the rest of the channel off just as they’re reaching you, dodge away, pop water attunement, throw down Frozen Ground and kite.

You might want to try out a support/survival setup like this to at least get the basics of survival down. It may take longer to kill things because you don’t have points in fire, but you can outlast the mobs better with this spec. If you’re getting one or two shot, you’ve got more to worry about than just your dps compared to other classes. Can’t get better at your dps if you’re dead. Working on one thing at a time is usually best.

Sorry for the lengthy response, more information is usually better than less I’ve found.
