Sorrows Furnace

I’m glad to hear the hackers have been found. Recently our guild moved back to HoD hoping to find more fights in WvW, and the first thing I ran into last week was witnessing the hackers while I was on DH.
While out solo roaming I was engaged with a group of DH for southeast tower. Just as DH was killing me I saw that their Undercroft flipped. As a roamer, I thought that I had provided a good distraction for my server mates. I put up a query in map chat to ask who else was on the BL and received silence.
After respawning from the beating DH gave me I saw that Palace flipped. And that’s when I thought it was weird. Less than 3 minutes from Undercroft to Palace. About 2 minutes later the necro tower, and 2 minutes after that the Academy tower. Finally 3 minutes later the southwest tower. 2 keeps and 3 towers in ten minutes? The most telling thing? All of the supply camps on DH belonged to DH. Can’t get into towers and keeps without supply, right? Seeing this I left WvW for the night. No point. Several nights later our 5 man group witnessed it again. Undercroft, Palace, and the necro tower in a few minutes.
At this point I’m personally stepping away from GW2. I’m glad the hackers were caught, but WvW (my primary game mode) is in real trouble. Witnessing the hackers work first hand left me with one simple question. What’s the point? Their actions hit me pretty hard regarding my favorite game mode. I’m just not seeing a point any longer.
Good luck all, and keep fighting for the game mode you enjoy! I’ll be waiting to hear when the WvW overhaul comes, and maybe my interest will be re-kindled.
Sad to say, this has put me off the game.

Automatic upgrades in WvW were terrible. I think everyone playing agreed on that one. And with the release of the latest update I was pretty hopeful for all of the new changes, including the changes tying upgrades to the number of Yaks through the door. Sadly, ANet seems to be interested in extremes, rather than fully thought out changes.
With the patch release on the 26th many of my guild mates and I were looking forward to seeing all of the changes. PPK is great, no rezzing the dead while in combat, and finally an end to the auto upgrades. Unfortunately, the upgrades have now swung too far in the other direction.
I’m a numbers guy by nature, and after the patch launch I went out to an enemy BL to see the changes myself. We hit SE Camp, S Camp, and SE Tower to get yaks rolling into the tower. And I timed the yaks from each camp to the tower.
Yaks coming from SE Camp took 2 minutes and 20 seconds each. Yaks from South Camp took 3 minutes and 20 seconds each. The goal to get to secured is 20 Yaks. Reinforced is another 40 Yaks.
Running the numbers you find that SE Camp will supply a little over 12 Yaks in 30 minutes time. South Camp will supply 9 Yaks in the same time frame. In total, 21 Yaks in the door in 30 minutes. That’s if all things are perfect, no Yak killers show, and nobody flips your camps. To get to reinforced you’re looking at almost another hour and change. So, to have those harder doors and walls plan on about 1 and a half hours.
The results are pretty visible. So many objectives are now paper, and will remain paper.
ANet has now created new “challenging content”. And by challenging I mean the content takes longer. In the recent updates you’ll find that capture and hold missions have had their time adjusted to 1 hour to get your objective to tier 1. Those missions were 30 minutes, and it seems with the mission adjustment they’re acknowledging it takes a long time to get there. I’m pretty sure most of our remaining guild members who are still desperately trying to hang on to this game mode won’t have the patience for 1 hour long WvW guild missions….
I have to say, I’m feeling like Goldilocks here. First it was too fast, now it’s too slow. Will we ever be presented with just right? I’m not sure I can hang in to see.
Really happy to see the upcoming changes. As a regular roamer and small group player on a lower tier, each one has merits. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out. Thanks for the preview.
Here’s hoping we start seeing folks coming back. The borderlands have been too quiet for too long.
As I’ve posted many times, Guilds should not be prioritized in WvW, period! Worlds need to be a cohesive military force. Buffs need to be available to every soldier of a World because they all matter equally. Not gating buffs to social cliques, especially to only the largest large social cliques at that.
The entire design concept of gating WvW buffs to guilds is a complete failure….
With all respect to guilds i must say i agree with this. If you are a WvW player, you are a WvW player. Period. It doesn’t matter if you are in a 300 man guild or a guildless lone wolf. As long as you are an active member that does stuff, you deserve the possibility to earn your buffs
Guilds deserve some “extra stuff”, since they are, well, guilds (which should mean a group of people who play with the same mindset for a common purpose). But making +5 and such SO much related to guild (and ONLY to guild) is disrespectful for the guildless WvW players that yet do a lot of work and deserve credit.
The small guild and the solo player have been left out of WvW completely.
^^^ This. Our small WvW havoc guild has now rolled up to the conclusion that we are no longer valued. Would we grind for a guild hall if +5 wasn’t so far out of reach?
Yes.
But looking at the time it will take with 5 or 6 of us, out of the question (last check from Guild2 to +5 requires more than 678 gold in materials). Right now to toss out 1 guild cata we NEED a minimum of 4 players. Groups smaller than 4 are no longer effective.
Our members also rep larger WvW guilds as well, but the havoc roaming is where we all had a blast. Several members are so down now that they’re barely on any longer. Even seeing our larger guilds working toward recovering what we lost, the time gates and guild levels mean it’s going to be a long road ahead…
Good response Changer of the Elder. And Lunarian, I don’t think your message is lost in all of this.
Personally I like the new and challenging PVE content, and don’t want anything nerf’d folks. And our small guild will be taking a run at a Guild Hall tomorrow. Not complaining about that. But our issue is simple.
We’ve got a small WvW guild. It’s RL friends (oh no, real life) who like to roll in a small group. We’ve run with bigger guilds, but always come back to our core group of friends after too much nonsense in bigger groups. We’ve been playing since the start of GW2. And we built a small guild for our WvW purposes (claiming and buffing points). Time, gold, and upgrades were all involved. We focused on aspects to enhance our WvW play. Getting on and heading into a borderland and finding our ability to claim objectives was GONE without a guild hall was beyond a let down. What happened? WvW has stopped for us. And we’ve heard from other roamer / havoc fans having the same issue.
We’ll go for it tomorrow, and I know we’ll succeed. But much of the guild hall experience won’t be necessary. We have our homes that we decorate and live in. A time and gold sink isn’t in our future for constructing a guild hall. The larger guilds that we are still a part of now sound like this in Guild Chat…..
“We need XXXX item donated now.” Personally, I already have a job, and when I come on to play I don’t need a second one.
Hey all!
We have a very small guild on Sorrows Furnace that enjoys a fair amount of Havoc and Roaming on the borderlands. With the recent changes with HoT, we’ve found that we’ve lost out on some of our old guild functions. No +5, no claiming, etc. There are only 5 of us in the guild, and we do play consistently. And we enjoy contributing and assisting the larger guilds on SF.
I know other roamers and havoc oriented WvW players who have been impacted in the same way. So I’m wondering if the roamers & havoc players in SF would like to come together under one banner. I understand we all like our solo time, but we’re all missing out of the benefits of a larger guild tag.
If there are smaller guilds out there right now, we’d love to join with you. Or if we should pull something new together, we’d be great with that too. I’d love to hear from other members of the Furnace to get your thoughts as well.
Thanks in advance for reading through, and your comments!

Lunarian,
It’s a bummer. Our small guild used to be able to +5 camps. We’re a small havoc group that normally runs 3-5 man groups. We’ve been experimenting with the new borderlands, and hopefully some day we’ll be able to get back what we’ve lost, but it’s not today.
And yes, when I read that small guilds would be treated with “respect” I knew we were most likely in trouble. We’ve all run with larger guilds, but we feel there’s a place for small krewes in this game still.
Hey all. Looking for a guild to join up with that takes WvW and PvP seriously. Been playing over 2 years now and have a ton of solo roaming experience. Wanting to find a small guild that is effective and mature. Very comfortable in outmatched fights, and looking to find others with a similar play style. And I’m very willing to relocate from my current server.

Being that my old stomping grounds are in the Boston area and I worked there for many years I’ve been wanting to do something too. I have a lot of family and friends there. Then I see this thread (Chaba passed it along) and realized why I like this community so much. And I’m following along with Chaba our fearless NERF leader and donating the price of the game since it’s free trial weekend as well.
FA is a great community. Glad to be part of it.
“This email confirms that you have donated $60.00 USD to The One Fund Boston, Inc.” Just got my confirmation back, and I hope we have a lot of participation.
I actually stepped off after 10 minutes of WvWvW on Friday. I went off to do some PVE, and the lag followed there too. Finally headed to the Mists where I found no lag at all.
Since the patch I’ve been seeing more and more lag. And unfortunately it’s left me on less and less. Hope it gets fixed soon, I do enjoy GW2, but I’m finding my favorite features now unplayable.
