Low FPS while in most areas on AMD R HD 7950?

I found out why the bandit caves for queensdale lag so terribly much. It’s the HUD/GUI. While using the “Point of interest” movie cinematic in the cave, the movie runs at 60 fps as if there was no problem at all. With the HUD/GUI on, the caves run around 5~15 fps.

When exiting the cave or looking away from the cave’s deepest parts, the fps gets instantly better.

While looking down at certain areas, I can easily acheive higher than 60 fps (if vsync is off.) This actually said 61 when I took it, but went to 59 when the screenshot was taken:

here are the options used:

GW2 isn’t TERA, they use different engines and every game is different.

Then I hope they optimize it soon =/

bro ive been waiting for optimizations since august 28th xD
these guys will most likely never optimize….
just came here on the forums to check if it got optimized and apparantly its still the same mess, what a shame….. hope that elder scrolls online will be optimized.

its the game not our hardware, if someone with the best gpu claims he has low fps it just indicates that this game is unoptimized, i gave up yesterdat when i dropped from 40 to 15 fps in a cave, gpu usage was less than 50%. just downloaded world of tanks again and im enjoing my german tank destroyer
i recommend waiting till they fixed this mess, its just unplayable. very dissapointing. i did not expect this at all.

Zaxan,

What do you mean this isn’t a widespread problem???

Have you taken a look at the countless fps threads there are on this forums…not to mention the 1000 posts in each thread?

Also, you have to take into consideration that there are people playing at an extremely low FPS but aren’t posting on the forums because they either a) don’t know the forum exists or b) they don’t care about their terrible performance.

Earlier yesterday, I was looking around the Black Citadel and asking people to read me their fps…

I asked 57 people about their FPS in the black citadel. Guess what their fps averaged: 34 FPS. Guess what they ALL told me: that 34 FPS is good.

That’s proof that there are countless others getting extremely low fps. they just aren’t spamming the forums like we are.

34 omg !! mine is just 26

Suggested Build for New GW2 PC

I’m going to have a local independent computer shop build a PC so my girlfriend and I can play GW2 together and I just want to have a reasonable idea of what I should be getting and what it should cost before I talk to them.

The GW2Guru forums have a great post up with some suggested builds but it was last updated in April (before the game had actually launched) so I’m not sure how reliable it is now. So if anyone is willing to take a moment and let me know what I ought to be looking for I’d really appreciate it.

I’m looking to spend around $750 on this project, not including monitor and such.

id recommend waiting a month to see how driver updates and anet optimizations patches will affect performance. if it stays the same you will need a very good/ expensive cpu.

When will WvWvW FINALLY use the GPU?

Is this the reason im getting bsod?

Just because it has been shown to be overclocked to 4.4 doesn’t mean it will be stable when overclocked. There are many other variables to consider, like differences in the motherboards, voltages etc. Overclocking is a risk, if you are getting BSODs then it’s probably safe to say it’s due to the overclocking. One way to tell for sure is to set it back to stock speed (set everything back to stock in BIOS as well) and see if you still get BSODs. If not, then yes, it’s because of overclocking.

WARNING!!!: I would not recommend overclocking components unless you are well versed in the subject. Beginners can easily fry hardware by overclocking. If you plan on being an overclocker, I would first recommend you read up on the subject (read, read, read). Also make sure you become as familiar with your hardware as humanly possible (again, read , read, read). Knowing what the limitations of your hardware will only help to keep you from inadvertently frying a component.

i know the basics, keep temps low and dont increase voltage if your a noob. is there anything else thats very important?

specs fx4100
asrock extreme4 mobo
radeon HD 7770
6gb ram
700w psu

Im experiencing blue screens when overclocking my cpu higher than 4,1ghz but i saw it can easily go to 4,4ghz on stock cooler, btw i oc through ‘amd overdrive’ because i dont know how to do it with bios
but i saw that the normal HT ref clock is 2000mhz. ive got no idea what HT ref clock is but mine is at 2100 mhz probably because i accidentally increased it in bios not sure. But is the 100mhz higher than stock the reason im getting bsod’s ???

btw temps never went higher than 40C

edit: os is win7 ultimate or something

See Signature for PC Specs

Will usually get around 27-35 fps in a city. (Hoelbrak, Rata Sum, Black Citadel, Divinity’s Reach, The Grove) Any place that isn’t a city my fps varies depending on what’s going on. The most I have ever had was 55fps. It will also drop down into the low 40s during events and such with alot of people.

Pic of In Game settings provided.

you should be getting atleast 100fps at any time with those specs….

Getting 35 frames max on a pretty good pc -.-

This is the weirdest game ive ever played o.0
first of all it seems that some options dont even affect my fps, some heavy stuff like Anti aliasing, textures and resolution etc. only shadows and reflections lower my fps.
AA on is same performance as AA off, not even a single fps difference…
same with resolution, it doesnt matter if its 1080p or the lowest possible.

ive even overclocked my gpu from 1000/1125 to 1070/1470 and it didnt make any difference at all. oc’ing my cpu atleast gave me like 3 fps

WvW was a dissaster…
i get in the mists after a long que and i start at a safe place with hardly any players around. my settings were best appearance at 1920×1080p but shadows at low and reflections off. had like steady 40fps but then i went into a big zerg and i dropped to 18fps, okay its possible to have frame drops in big fights so i just put the game on best performance but i didnt get a single fps gain ?! how is this possible???
the game turned ultra ugly but the fps stayed the same, even minecraft looked better.
i was desperate so i even put resolution on lowest possible but same fps again….

specs: windows 7
radeon HD 7770 ( doesnt get hotter than 55C
fx4100 @ 4,1 ghz (max temp i had was 36C)
6gb ram
700w power supply (could be 500w too not sure but its enough)
monitor 1920×1080p

the only reason i can find for this bad performance is bad optimization….

btw also checked for viruses/malware etc and nothing found. also cleaned everthing with ccleaner.

someone told me to put gw2.exe process on high priority but it didnt make any difference.

what i noticed is that if theres a lot of spell effects going on the fps drops by a lot, even when im not looking at the spell effects and all the players…

could someone from arena-net please explain this issue to me?
-thanks

average fps pve: 40+
average fps WvW: 15-20 and setting to best performance doesnt make any difference :S

radeon HD 7770, overclocking it doesnt make any difference
Fx4100 OC @ 4,2ghz
6Gb ram
1920×1080p

gpu temp: avg 40-50C
cpu temp: mag 39C

seems like the game is unoptimized in big fights…
ps: only thing that increases my fps is disabling shadows….
