I know there have been plenty topics about duals, and that a lot of people want it, but some don’t at all (though an option “do not prompt me with duals” would solve that concern i guess)
Ultimately i would love it if there were people dueling all over the world! in lionsarch etc. But i think that will never happen (would be cool if there were days that you could, like full moon or something
But more realistic i thought there could be a new “hearth of the mist” type area
that has arenas (like those from the clockwork chaos above the obsidian sanctum) that way the duelers are in no-ones way and don’t get effected by other peoples boons. it also takes away the sour taste of a flag planted in your face, as you spawn outside when your health drops to zero.
If someone was to enter one of these arena’s, people outside can see what class you are and decide to step in, or just wait around till the preferred class shows up somewhere else and then hop in, great way to practice your fighting against certain classes
You could also have private arena’s, that way you can fight your friends and guildies.
It would be nice if this didn’t work with the PvP build but the PvE/WvW build. I know PvP is supposed to be more balanced and fair. but i don’t like having to choose 2 predetermined stat blocks and that’s your build…
well anyway that was my idea…
While we are on the ascended accessories topic; would be nice to have ascended with some more different stat blocs… i for one am really missing the Valkyrie stats…
- Lightning flash can be used while casting skills such as churning earth.
*and “earthquake” with a bit of practice (specially handy for foes running away)
I recon every build has their easy targets and their nemesis,
i see a lot of people complaining about warriors?! I very rarely loose from a warrior, they are often easy to counter, the hammer slash you can see coming from miles away, hundred blades? haha they don’t even move, one step backwards is enough, killshot can get you when not paying attention, but in 1vs1 killshot is like churning earth…
But trying to D/D a condition necro? or a confusion build mesmer? that can be so incredibly hard!
So no there is no balance, but maybe that’s the way it’s supposed to be, because i guess you can create a build specifically to counter any other build…
I used to run full bunker ele, but i got tired of the long fights… so i tried out a few things; this is my D/D build which i think works great! not only in small fights, but plenty survivability in zerg fights as well…
The way this build works is namely becouse of the sigil of intelligence giving you 100% crit chance on weapon swap (or attunement)
I make sure to have continues Fury (+20% crit chance) by always having an aura (zephyres boon trait) up and swapping attunements (arcane fury; thus the boon duration runes on my armor)
This way of improving crit chance gives the opportunity to have a crit build that doesn’t invest too much in precision but instead the Valkyrie stats (Power, Vitality, crit damage) giving a nice high health pool of nearly 18k, thus plenty of time to get the hell away if your health starts dropping.
anyway this is the build:
0/20/0/25/25
Ele’s can do some serious damage if they choose to, just like most classes i guess… check out this video. I know it’s D/D and not staff but still fun to watch…

I’ve never really seen proper condition elementalist… (that doesn’t mean it’s not possible)
But looking at your build you’re going to be very bunker and only going to be doing your damage with conditions, your base damage is only 981 which seems very low to me.
The other thing with conditions and ele’s as i see it is that we don’t really have any skill to burst conditions, mainly a bit of burning here a bit of chilling there some bleeding etc. There’s no utility skill that spams a couple of them at the same time (like a necromancer has)
Also i think you’d have a hard time facing an enemy that has a couple of condition removals.
I started of with with the standard 0/10/0/30/30, cantrips, full PVT gear, which makes for a great bunker ele and gives you +power off course. This is a great armor set to learn playing as an ele, because of the high survivability.
Then as you get used to character start investing more and more into crits or conditions, and play around with your traits.
If you want to do more damage as an ele, you will have to take a look at your build first. My suggestions:
Try to get your crits up:
You don’t have to go 30 water 30 arcana, i would investing in air a bit more, going for +10% damage in air and +20% bolt to the hart. and get extra precision and crit damage.
Fury is a nice 20% bonus to precision. take the trait fury&swiftness on aura, and make sure to have at least 5 points in arcana for the Fury on atunement swap. This pretty much gives you permanent fury.
Another great trick is to invest in boon duration, doing this will alow you to make use of you fury even longer and stack’s of might will stack. (get the rune that gives you 3 stacks of might on weapon swap and you will soon be up to 16 stacks in combat)
Toughness is overrated, This counts only towards melee attacks, and since the ele is quite mobile, you usually have more too fear from magic/range attacks. so i recon it’s better to have less toughness and more damage. i suggest valkyrie armor (power/vitality/crit damage) and get some zerker trinkets or weapons.
I think the most important is you find a balance in your build, you don’t have to go full bunker/beserker/condi, you can find a balance in between. just pick your gear and trickets one piece at the time and find what works well.
One more thing, i think investing more then 10 points (+10% fire damage trait) in Fire is a bad option, you only gain 10 power per point invested, and some of the other atunement bonuses give you a +10% damage, which is much higher then the 100 power you gained by investing in fire.
My personal build is a mix of everything, but i do an average of 2k damage on auto attack and still have 19k health left for survivability…
I’ve been reading so many negative things about the ele’s and towards Arenanet lately.
Sure we’ve had a few nerfs . I too felt the pain when they nerft RTL. And oh! how I miss being able to press the heal button in mist form.
But honestly I don’t understand how some people are going on about ele’s being too weak to survive and some even go as far as to say; they are not going to play this class anymore… I think that maybe those people chose the wrong class to begin with.
Having said that I must admit that elementalist is by far the hardest class to master, and yes it takes a lot more work, you cannot simply rely on your standard attack to do enough damage, you need to find those right combinations of attacks that are most effective. These combinations should also differ from the enemy you’re facing.
But isn’t that what makes this class so much fun to play? I have 4 other characters but after a while they bore me because the combat starts to become repetitive.
I think Ele’s are not weak at all, I myself rarely lose in 1vs1 PvP or WvW, and what I especially enjoy is zerg vs zerg, to be able to jump in the middle of the battlefield and spam those great aoe’s, jump from here to there damaging everything and everyone, and still be amongst the last standing.
In Dungeons I am usually the one ressing other people and hardly going down myself.
I consider myself an average player. I’ve seen far better ele’s around, so this is not bragging about my own skills
(I play mainly D/D 0/20/0/25/25 but sometimes swich to staff, though I’ve seen some great, although rare F/D and S/D ele’s around)
I also think we shouldn’t compare our skills to other classes skills, it just doesn’t work that way. Every class has it’s ups and it’s downs.
For example there are lots of skills that could be considered just as good as a dodge; try and attack an ele while he’s doing RTL/Burning Speed/magnetic grasp/updraft/teleport (and then still have two dodges left)
I swear that even if they nerf RTL to 50 with c/d of 280 and replace my daggers with bunny’s I will always love my Elementalist! And will always be an ele!!
I guess what I wanted to say is that it’s not bad giving suggestions (I’ve seen some great ones out there:)) But that we should not exaggerate them too much!
Even though it is true that we are kind of pushed into similar builds and utility skills that doesn’t take away the fact that Ele’s are a great class and are far from under powered or broken!
I do think the Ele could use some working on, but I think a few small changes could suffice, say;
-make cool down time relative to the amount of points in that skill tree (thus making it possible to create a build focused on one or two elements)
-make conjured weapon skills count as spells so that Signet of Restoration works with them.
Some of my favorite tricks;
- churning earth ,rock-armor, change to air; shocking aura(for fury) (teleport when necessary)
- ressing someone in a group of enemies that are about to stomp using mist form ?
- stomping an enemy far in the midst of an enemy zerg using mist form.
- using frozen burst on a backstab thief always makes me laugh, especially if they keep trying and waste al initiative.
- go fish; Stand in wvw and pretend to be AFK wait for someone to bite :p
Anyway a big thank you to Arenanet that managed to make a game that I spend nearly 2000 hours in and that for 50€
