1 kit changes way more than 1 weapon change on a thief.
The skills also don’t all share the same resource pool.

yea okey if u want to go this way i rlly do think u r the one ignoring reality and thinking ur build changes more with one kit when u still playstyle is exactly the same in almost every build in engi no matter what u say unlike thief ur play style has to change depending on ur build and enemy. but if u don’t know how thiefs or this game works i don’t rlly care to debate about it with u

i couldn’t disagree more O_o
thief is most versatile class in the game and has more viable builds than any other class.
it just might be hard at first because u need quick reflexes and great knowledge of other classes.Never seen anything besides roaming thieves in PvP. Its the class with one of the worst possible build variations. Engi for example is a class with a real broad spectrum of builds.

as a thief u have 3 viable power build atleast + some not the most viable but still working like p/d power.
and u also have the condi builds.
as for a engi u have cele rifle static discharge whitch is semi troll and u have ur condi and condi bunker.
engi has rifle,pistol/pistol and pistol/shield for weps and as for thief u have d/d, s/d, p/d,d/p,s/p and sb so build versatility is much higher than with engi imo also the play style changes alot more than with engi or any other professionRapid condi engi, bunker condi engi, turret engi offensive, turret engi defensive (you can play any turret build condi or power too), static discharge, full zerker power rifle, mightstacking power, might stacking hybrid, 3kit engis (their are at least 4-5 combinations of that used), elixier focused power build, bleed stacking elixir gun build etc etc etc… thats just from the top of my head. You cant define engi just by their weapon sets, every kit is basicaly a weapon set with no cooldown attached.
Edit: i totaly forgot bomb or nade focused builds their are at least 4 that I know that work really good in pvp. About playstyle changes… a full power rifle build plays completly different from a turret bunker even if they use the same weapon sets. Engis have like 20-30 options in PvP

d/d bosses and s/p for stack in pve imo
and yea u should always run full zerk in pve ^^
and in pve dungeons stealth is ur best help and can make dungeon run much faster and easier as u can help pugs skip content with it
also u can do alot of cool shadow step tricks in pve and solo lot of content but those r kinda not for new players ^^

not sure if u r pve or pvp player so can’t tell u what build is most fun for me
and by tradiotanal rogue u mean stealth burst i guess?? d/p is great for perma stealth
but this class is not for everyone so not gonna try to force it or brainwash u to play it :P
some do not want u in ur team if u do pve but they r bad because thief do have one of the biggest pve dps so if they don’t want u u rlly don’t want them ^^
thiefs are not bad in bigger pvp matches if u mean wvw but ur role is different u r supposed to snipe high value targets like necros and eles and keep out of the main melee
and how fun? ^^ well i’ve played 3000hours this game and 2300hours is thief
most fun imo but not the most easy.
and it’s more like zed imo shadow steps ftw u even have thiefs guild as elite they r like better versions of zed shadows ^^
and u can play thief in many other ways u can play dodge thief when u evade all enemy atks and shadow step all around
or u can play burst stealth when u hide in the shadows and then go behind the enemy and burst him and then go back in the shadows and find next target
i rlly rlly do enjoy playing thief
