Is a thread about “Why not to WvW” really necessary?
If you wanna PvE go ahead and kill some super-cool birds and bears, or chop some wood and gather some plants. you can harvest plants on Farmville.
Dont hate on WvW becasue it isn’t perfect for you. WvW is probably the best part of GW2, along with the PvP.
Also, dont be so picky and anal-retentive about the changes being made, changes should be made, people should be kept on their toes, you should have to adapt, you dont want players who find a good build and destroy people with the same build from 5 months ago.
A dynamic game keeps you interested.
Personally, I wouldnt play this game much longer, or as much if it wasnt for WvW
Never really heard anyone accuse other servers of becoming allies against mine until this week, I wondered how people could organize this, and what each allied server would get out of it.
I usually just ignored the idiots yelling it in /map or /team chat.
I figured that IF there was an alliance, it would only be to kick the new guys (FA) out of the 3rd tier, since Yak and TC had been there together first.
I thought this morning that it WAS true when after 12+ hours of TC trebbing SMC and Yak doing the same for almost as long, only to see Yak disappear when our second level gates were open. Yak could have easily overwhelmed us after the first wave of TC was killed but the didnt. But then I realized that Yak either had no leadership at the time, or didnt want to have to fight TC for the keep as well as defend it, and was jsut waiting for a weak moment in Fa to take advantage of us in hopes of catchng up.
So, thanks to the commander/guild leader above who said there is no secret negotiations.
In reality, you cant get a whole server to be on the same agenda… jsut liek you cant stop the newbile player from chopping wood in the middle of a 30 v 30 field battle… Too many guilds, too many independent players, and no Real way for an entire server to be on the same page.
EDIT: Oh, and I will be telling the random ‘CONSPIRACY’ guy in chat to “be quiet” and stop using /map /team for garbage useless propaganda

Im all for improving rangers, giving us some sort of edge, i feel more like an engineer sometimes in WvW because im so much utility (traps and healing and combat support)
Im especially inclined towards bringing the shortbow speed back….
other games do have a time-out period where if you do that, you can’t get back in for X minutes, so it’s a penalty for you and for your team, other games go as far as keeping a record of you doing stuff liek that, like as demerrit system
I finally hit 80 the other day, and I have decided that I am going to play the game for WvW. I have switched to a tank build and want to find a good place in WvW.
There is every kind of situation in WvW where a different build, or weapon set, or skill set is needed.
This is what I have found so far:
1) When attacking keeps:
-A ranger is good for his longbow skills in shooting the enemy on the wall, especially with his AOE longbow attack.
-If you have the trait skill, you can manually place a trap wherever you want, so in addition to the longbow AOE, you can put the traps on the edges of the walls to keep enemies away from the edge.
-Horn buff for the attacking troops
-AOE heal for the warriors and guardians hitting the gate, as well as other allies on siege equip.
-Pets that cure conditions, cause regen, or give protection to troops at the gate.
-traps outside the enemy access door so when they try to run in, you can nab them
2) When Defending Keeps
-Aoe heals for people on the walls defending
-Same pet advantages as above
-you can jump down in to the gate where the enemy is attacking, drop 1-3 traps for CC and CD
-Use your wolf in the same situation to howl and fear everyone away
-Both longbow and shortbow for pushing enemies back from the wall.
3) In a large group fight
-Avatar of Melandru + Greatsword / sword + torch CD the enemy (tank build only)
-AOE healing of course
-have your pet revive downed allies, the elite spirit that will revive downed allies, as well as the other buffing spirits for protection and other CD
-Pushing back enemies with longbow
-chasing down enemies with shortbow cripple conditions
-traps that cripple/slow enemies are always useful
What else do you guys think?

100g is a lot to spend on ONE item, your average player isnt gonig to have that money, and if they do, they’ll be buying decent armor.
I do like the idea of some sort of rank symbol next to your name based on the number of kills/keeps taken/siege built etc, so you know who to follow/respect and who to see as a pawn.
I dislike how some commanders dont really command… I mean command through team or map chat, asking for reports, leading zergs, and portraying strategy to the rest of the sheep.
Commander Rob ^^ up above seems like the ideal commander, generous with his cash. (im poor but i still buy ACs and Rams)
Just make it so stealthed players don’t contribute to capping.

Yes, but then i realized that yak is just the weaker server looking for something to do in EB. My statement was corrected in the proceeding posts.
Also, is it possible to have the same match up 2 weeks in a row? Where no one in the lower tier scores high enough to move up and no one in the above tier scores low enough to move down?

In any 3 way match, there is always a chance of someone becoming a temporary ally to take down a common foe. Before turning on ya and cuttin your throat if it gains them an edge.

agreed, then i’ll re-word my post to “yak saw that TC was actively trying to take SMC, when they saw this, they took the opportunity to do it as well, as soon as the 2nd gate was broken, yak left it to TC, but was then taken advantage of by TC soon after. while no apparent alliances were formed, evident by the strategy yak has been taking, yak is showing as the weaker server in this week’s machup”
and i will say that TC has better participation/number from their server than either FA or Yak. You guys have numbers everywhere

Then I stopped wondering why players kept insisting that Yak sold out to TC and agreed to help them take SMC. After that, I knew it was true.
Oh boo frickin’ hoo, take a look at the screenshot one of your server mates posted of the map and see who TC has been focusing for the past 2 hours.
Oh, and when you guys were overpowering us during your asian prime time and pressuring all our towers? Yaks wanted in on the fun and we had to deal with both.
Don’t spoil a great matchup with your whining.
Only saying what I saw, im not complaining or saying it’s unfair, as soon as you guys had SMC you went straight for yaks, because they’re weaker in EB.

WvW isnt won by mesmers and theives, it’s won by participation, organization, and siege…
i mean… if there’s ever an alliance, its usually unspoken and by the 2 servers who currently have the lower scores against the winning server.

Twitch is a rastard…lol Im a volibear/alistar/nasus kinda guy.
I was only disappointed when I logged on one day, only to see that my shortbow auto attack was slower…. this was shortly after making my ranger, but I still use my shortbow all the time.
Trying not to repeat what everyone else says, but if you want to actually contribute in WvW as a lower lvl, you need to have some Skill points, enough to be able to choose what abilities you want and when.
the armor drops are specific to your level and you will get some decent ones.
in 1v1 battle, you will most likely lose to a player with a nice armor set as your stats wont scale up to be as equal.
but you can get kills/loot from defending.
I’ve prolly got 20 levels in WvW with my main.
All in all it’s pretty easy to level in GW2, there’s much less of a time demand compared to other MMO’s, to get to the level cap.
Like I said before. Everyone is insisting on going glass cannon. I have 21K HP and over 2500 armor. I don’t even have to stunbreak but I still slot one. I eat Glass Cannon thieves, they are my favorite to kill.
I agree with you stiv, I dont want a tanky Ranger… Id rather have a tanky warrior, I try to counter thieves with traps. It works well sometimes. And its hard to think of an elementalist as a tank build.
People forget this MMO is different from others in that you can build each class as you want them, and that there are no dedicated healers. (I used to play EQ2)
Every few days, someone puts a “I Hate Thiefs” thread up in the WvW section. And it always results in the same debate, with the same comebacks from both sides.
Here’s the reality: If you wear leather or cloth armor, you’re gonna get ruined by a decent thief when you’re alone, the majority of the time. Every class has their place/role in WvW and don’t forget… Every server has thiefs, so while your Elementalist is getting torn apart by another server’s Thief… thieves in your server are tearing apart the opposing server’s elementalists, etc.
If you dont wanna get ruined by a thief, travel with a safety buddy, a zerg, stay by npc’s, or become a thief yourself.
It’s a dynamic of the game, accept it, and keep playing.

I have really enjoyed this match, frustrating, and intense and fun at the same time.
One complaint/bad sport thing I have been seeing a lot of recently that I would like to see stop is siege on edge of spawn points. Its cheap and in poor taste. I am not going to blame a server because it is just one or two groups but setting up siege where you can just dodge back and be inv is stupid. It is not intended and we all know that. Winning that way kind of makes you a loser, and you know who you are. Had to clear it out 4 times this match so far. And no it wasn’t a response to spawn camping which I gladly have not really seen on any side so far.
There’s always more than one way out of a spawn camp and a group can usually easily flank the siege set up. I still havent decieded if it’s rude, but it seems pointless unless you just took the enemy’s keep in EB and want to hold off enemies while you try to fortify it. I thnik it’s also a spirit breaker method too. People come to the map, get sieged as soon as they spawn, and decide to go do something else, or go to another map.
Im not against trebbing a spawn point if you just took an enemy’s fort on their territory, but ballista/Ac-ing is kinda pointless.
But, all is fair (even mesmers and thiefs )

FA has a significant amount of newbile WvWers, and when there’s leadership present, we seem to take points on the map very well, but when there’s not a commander… it’s a gaggle of newbies calling everyone somewhere every time they see more than 2 TC or Yak
This is entirely not true. I have great fights with good rangers, the problem is that the vast majority of Rangers are zerging plinkers that have no concept of small group/solo pvp and panic as soon as there isnt a wall/people between them and their target. The ranger in the hands of a good player is just as challenging as any other class.

I love picking off thieves trying to hit my guys on siege equip.
You guys are gonna cry for nerfs every time one class has some type of obvious advantage, its the same in every pvp situation for all MMO’s. What you’re all really saying is have just one class and see who can press buttons the best.
A reward for doing well isn’t rediculous or unfair, but the magnitude of the reward could be…
The only rewards I can think of is a performance/stat booster or a monetary booster (such as +X silver for every X minutes in WvW)
OR
The orb boosts could be kept, but only having 1 would give a minor boost, and posessing the other 2 wouldnt give a stacked boost, it jsut would prevent the others from having it.
OR
To inspire server pride, give a performance boost to players in PvE (such as +10% speed) and let everyone know it’s from WvW. This would make them aware of WvW and encourage them to contribute to their server. Possibly even a reward for every WvW match won for everyone, whether you participated or not.
As far as the server switches go, there should be a cool-down period for WvW-ing. Half a week, or maybe a full cycle. It wouldnt prevent, but it could deter.
